Grâce à Sunny, Apple TV+ nous fait voyager dans le futur et nous plonge dans la vie pleine de (mauvaises) surprises de Suzie, une Américaine vivant à Kyoto. Alors qu'elle vient de perdre son mari et son fils dans un accident d'avion, elle reçoit un robot de compagnie, Sunny, pensé et fabriqué par ImaTech, la société pour laquelle travaillait son époux. Elle l'accepte à contrecœur, mais au fur et à mesure que les jours passent, elle va trouver dans la machine, une alliée précieuse, prête à tout pour aider Suzie à désépaissir le mystère qui plane autour de la disparition de sa famille. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zYYixvqjiuE Sunny : une série d'anticipation très réaliste Sunny aime troubler les pistes ! Si son titre « ensoleillé » laisse présager une fiction légère et pleine de chaleur, la réalité des intrigues tendrait plutôt dans la direction opposée ! La série penche, en effet, du côté du drame, avec une bonne dose de mystère et quelques touches çà et là d'humour. Et trouver l'équilibre juste entre ces différents genres n'est pas toujours chose aisée. Et c'est précisément là que le bât blesse pour cette série originale signée Apple TV+ : dans le passage parfois maladroit d'un genre à un autre. Pour autant, la fiction est une photographie saisissante d'une réalité futuriste, quoique palpable, dans laquelle les robots pensent comme des humains, ou une simple oreillette permet la traduction instantanée d'une langue étrangère et les téléphones portables, ultra-puissants, ressemblent à des polaroids améliorés. Un avenir qui ne semble pas si lointain, mais décrit ici sans manichéisme ni accusation. Un choix scénaristique particulièrement bienvenu, a fortiori, quand on sait combien les fictions ont tendance à diaboliser les avancées technologiques. Néanmoins, le fait même de laisser une place si importante aux robots, aussi attachants soient-ils – et Sunny (qui utilise la voix de Joanna Sotomura) l'est particulièrement – distille une froideur qui peut rendre l'accès à la série difficile. Fort heureusement, Rashida Jones, qui a cette capacité rare de charger d'ironie n'importe quelle phrase de dialogue, parvient à insuffler de l'humanité à cet ensemble volontairement stérile. Sunny donne, en outre, à l'actrice l'opportunité de faire montre de ses talents de jeu au fur et à mesure que son personnage, Suzie encaisse les phrases cinglantes de sa belle-mère (Judy Ongg) ou découvre les vraies activités de son mari, Masa (Hidetoshi Nishijima). Les dix épisodes de la série offrent son lot de rebondissements avec, en filigrane, une machination qui se révèle doucement, mais sûrement par l'enquête menée de manière chaotique, voire comique, mais efficace par Suzie.
