Awkward questions. Clumsy confessions. Zero judgement. Today it's all about Darren, Darrens mum and a very dodgy night out! Say no more!Welcome to The Share Shed, the corner of Sober Awkward where we fling open the doors, air out the embarrassing bits, and finally stop carrying the stories that have been rattling around in our heads for years. These are your questions and confessions. The ones you've never said out loud. The nights you still cringe about in the shower. The moments that pop into your brain at 3am and make you want to crawl into the mattress. Traffic cones, family parties, one-night stands, run-ins with the police, bins, balconies, and that one thing everyone remembers even though you desperately wish they wouldn't.Some are funny. Some are painful. Most are both.In The Share Shed, listeners write in anonymously to share their drinking stories, shame spirals, and “why am I still thinking about this?” moments. We read them out, laugh where we can, get honest where it hurts, and gently unpack how shame sticks around long after the booze has gone, and how to finally loosen its grip. This isn't about reliving the chaos. It's about letting it go.Because shame thrives in silence, and nothing deflates it faster than saying, “This happened to me too.” Whether you're sober, sober-curious, or just questioning your relationship with alcohol, this is a place where you don't have to be polished, healed, or have it all figured out.Just human. If you've got a story you're sick of carrying, a question you're scared to ask, or a drunken ghost you'd quite like evicted from your brain, send it in to vic@soberawkward.com..We'll tuck it safely away in the Share Shed where it belongs, instead of letting it haunt you forever.New Share Shed episodes drop Thursdays.Come as you are.Leave a little lighter.
Drake and Hillary first matched on Hinge about a month ago and have actually gone on several dates with one another. Drake tells us that they got coffee on their first date and then went to a Capitals game and ice skating together on separate dates. Drake thought things were going in the right direction, but after they went ice skating he hasn’t heard from Hillary and he isn’t sure why. We call Hillary trying to figure out if there is anything else between her and Drake that happened that may have caused things to go wrong and she tells us that she wasn’t a fan of how Drake performed during their last date. Find out what’s really going on in this Second Date Update! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this special REWIND episode, CJ revisits his conversation with poet J.K. Kennedy and reflects on the idea that we all carry a clumsy beauty within us if we are willing to listen, orient, and follow Spirit.CJ explores what it means to simply be with someone—whether they are creating, transitioning, or moving through a difficult season of life. Often, our greatest challenges carry unexpected gifts. When we stop pushing against what's happening and instead ask, Why is this here? What can I learn from this? something begins to shift. The challenge may not disappear, but its gift starts to reveal itself.J.K. shares how her own struggles led her back to her core creative gifts, and how rough, unfinished moments—both in art and in life—often expose who we truly are. Clumsy, beautiful things emerge when we stop forcing outcomes and allow the process to unfold.CJ reads J.K.'s poem “Clumsy Beauty,” a reflection on becoming a conscious, mindful creator—learning to trust the process, tease out the wrinkles, and let Spirit speak through every experience. You're never fully “there,” but you are always on your way. Listen. Observe. Discover. And allow your own clumsy beauty to bloom.Want to learn more about CJ Miller? Based on the beloved Belgian comic and 1980s animated series, this family adventure catapults the tiny blue creatures from their peaceful village into the chaos of modern-day New York City after they escape the evil sorcerer Gargamel through a magical portal. The film features a talented voice cast led by Jonathan Winters (Mork & Mindy, The Flintstones) as the wise Papa Smurf, Katy Perry (pop superstar, Jeremy Scott: The People's Designer) as the sweet and sassy Smurfette, George Lopez (Rio, The George Lopez Show) as Grouchy, Alan Cumming (X2: X-Men United, The Good Wife) as Gutsy, Anton Yelchin (Star Trek, Alpha Dog) as Clumsy, Fred Armisen (Saturday Night Live, Portlandia) as Brainy, and Paul Reubens (Pee-wee's Big Adventure) as Jokey. On the human side, Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother, A Series of Unfortunate Events) stars as Patrick Winslow, a marketing executive who helps the Smurfs find their way back home, with Jayma Mays (Glee, Red Eye) as his supportive wife, and Hank Azaria (The Simpsons, Godzilla) fully embracing the role of the villainous Gargamel in a delightfully over-the-top performance. Sofia Vergara (Modern Family) also appears as Patrick's demanding boss. Packed with slapstick comedy, magical hijinks, and heartwarming moments, the film includes memorable scenes like the Smurfs causing chaos in FAO Schwarz, Gargamel's frantic chase through Central Park, and Papa Smurf's touching leadership that anchors the team. Whilst Cynthia Nixon's versatility is beyond question, it's fair to say that she has become permanently associated with one character, Miranda Hobbs, in Sex and the City and its companion piece, And Just Like That. She won an Emmy for her performance and a generation of fans who identified with the ambitious type-A lawyer whose cynicism disguised as vulnerability has grown markedly through the decades. Nixon is also a political activist and vocal advocate for progressive causes. She even met her wife at an education rally in 2002. In 2018, she ran unsuccessfully for the governorship of New York. More recently, she has repeatedly spoken out in support of a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. Nixon's political conscience recalls perhaps the legacy of her journalist Father Walter, who won awards for his coverage of the Civil Rights Movement. An uplifting, smart and enlightening woman - what a joy it was to meet her. Elizabeth and Cynthia answer YOUR questions in our subscriber series, Failing with Friends. In this punchy and provocative episode of Mark and Pete, we dive headfirst into the swirling chaos of British politics, public utilities, and corporate excess. First up: Attorney General Richard Hermer finds himself in hot water after comparing the Reform Party and Tory ECHR policies to Nazi ideology. Was it a bold moral stand—or a clumsy rhetorical nosedive? Next, we wade through the murky waters of Thames Water's £122.7 million fine, the biggest in UK history, as they continue to leak both sewage and credibility while drowning in £20 billion of debt. Is failure now the British benchmark for business? Finally, we take off (in budget class) to dissect Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary's eye-watering €100 million bonus. In a time of rising fares and falling trust, should we celebrate his capitalist cunning or question the altitude of his ethics? With satire, insight, and listener interaction, this episode invites you to write in: What reality show would you create featuring these headline-makers? What would your postcard from “Blunderland” say? Subscribe now for weekly doses of wit, wisdom, and wry commentary from Mark and Pete—where faith and current affairs meet head-on with a grin.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/mark-and-pete--1245374/support.
CLUMSY COMMUNISM LOSING BADLY IN BEIJING: 1/8: To the World: The Rise and Fall and Rise of Communism by Sean McMeekin (Author) https://www.amazon.com/Overthrow-World-Rise-Fall-Communism/dp/1541601963 When the USSR collapsed in 1991, the world was certain that Communism was dead. Today, three decades later, it is clear that it was not. While Russia may no longer be Communist, Communism and sympathy for Communist ideas have proliferated across the globe. In To Overthrow the World, Sean McMeekin investigates the evolution of Communism from a seductive ideal of a classless society into the ruling doctrine of tyrannical regimes. Tracing Communism's ascent from theory to practice, McMeekin ranges from Karl Marx's writings to the rise and fall of the USSR under Stalin to Mao's rise to power in China to the acceleration of Communist or Communist-inspired policies around the world in the twenty-first century. McMeekin argues, however, that despite the endurance of Communism, it remains deeply unpopular as a political form. Where it has arisen, it has always arisen by force. Blending historical narrative with cutting-edge scholarship, To Overthrow the World revolutionizes our understanding of the evolution of Communism—an idea that seemingly cannot die. 1966 MAO

1955 MAO

Katie and Allie's story began in childhood with unexplained clumsiness and subtle symptoms that intensified over time. After years of searching for answers, Katie was diagnosed with late-onset Tay-Sachs (LOTS), a rare neurodegenerative disease. Further testing confirmed her twin sister Allie's diagnosis as well. Despite facing daily challenges ranging from mobility issues to emotional strain, the sisters have become passionate advocates, raising over $1 million for research and awareness. With humor, grit, and the support of their family—especially their powerhouse mom—they continue to live fully and inspire the rare disease community. In this moving episode of On Rare, David Rintell, Head of Patient Advocacy at BridgeBio, and Mandy Rohrig, Senior Director of Patient Advocacy at BridgeBio Gene Therapy, speak with Katie and Allie, who share their experience with late-onset Tay-Sachs. The episode explores how Tay-Sachs, typically diagnosed in childhood, can present in adulthood, the emotional toll of navigating a progressive rare disease, and the resilience of a close-knit sibling duo who've turned advocacy into action. Diana Jussila, Director of Family Services at the National Tay-Sachs & Allied Diseases Association (NTSAD), provides essential insights into late-onset Tay-Sachs disease, a rare, progressive, neurodegenerative condition caused by mutations in the HEXA gene leading to deficiency of the Hex A enzyme. Without this enzyme, toxic substances accumulate in the brain and spinal cord, resulting in symptoms like muscle weakness, balance issues, speech difficulties, and psychiatric challenges. With no approved treatments and only supportive care available, community connection, advocacy, and ongoing research are vital lifelines for those living with late-onset Tay-Sachs disease.

Contact Bryan Barley for coaching at bryan@vothcenter.com. We just concluded a podcast series called, “The Twelve Movements of a Man's Life.” Although the series applies equally to women, I focused on men for three reasons: Men have a history of losing their focus as leaders, and not recognizing their importance to each other, their marriages, families, and society. There is a great need for men to be “response able” with their power, to avoid forms of being controlling and demanding and/or quitting when things become stressful. There is a need for men to continue to develop the capacities to live with integrity and passion, because society inherently depends upon the character of men to be vibrant. Good men are essential and crucial to marriages, families, community and society. If good men don't rise, bad men multiply and societies crumble. “The Twelve Movements of a Man's Life,” also presented a picture of the man that a woman needs and hopes will come into her life. Every woman (who wishes to be with a man) seeks to: Be cared for by a man who can care. Be rendered secure by a man who is secure. Be protected by a man who will advocate for what is right. Be understood as a feeling creature, as a man knows himself as a feeling creature. Know that a man will give himself to a cause greater than her, without neglecting her. Women and Men have to face certain realities in life: We are all works in progress. “Clumsy” or imperfect is as good as we will ever become. We are all like giraffes running on ice, as parents, spouses, children, leaders, etc. We have to live life on life's terms. We will have to learn how to struggle, deal with feelings, be in need, face loss and in spite of everything, love! We have to face that everything in life is about practice. Medical doctors are referred to as “practicing medicine,” just as lawyers practice law. We are all practicing daily, as parents, spouses, and people in general. We have to face that it really does take a lifetime to learn how to live. We never arrive at a place while we are living to say, “I know longer have to struggle with being human in an imperfect world.” Click here to continue reading the episode highlights.
