This is a special episode with a story that we'll be using soon in my other podcast, “Auditory Anthology” which comes out with new episodes every week (https://www.auditoryanthology.com). My partner at “Auditory Anthology”, Keith Conrad, curates stories from old sci-fi magazines, journals, books, and radio shows, and I voice the scripts. As much as I love old time radio, being able to tell these classic sci-fi stories from the 50s is a real treat for me. This story is one I actually heard many years ago on Old Time Radio, and the first time I heard it I absolutely fell in love with the story. So when I saw that Keith had sent me this one to narrate, I was beyond excited. The story is entitled “Prime Difference”, written by Alan Nourse. It was first published in Galaxy Science Fiction Magazine in June 1957. It's dated of course, assuming android technology would be available in the late 1960s. Well it wasn't – and it still isn't just yet. But listen to this story and you tell me if you don't think it's prophetic, even if they did guess wrong on the year!SOURCES AND REFERENCES FROM THE EPISODE…Auditory Anthology podcast: https://www.auditoryanthology.com“Prime Difference” is a work of fiction, written by Alan Nourse – originally published in Galaxy Science Fiction in June 1957: https://www.gutenberg.org/files/51321/51321-h/51321-h.htmWeird Darkness theme by Alibi Music Library. Did you know that in 2024 a person making the average salary in the United States can't get qualified for the average priced home? It's bad out there. So much so that many are giving up on the idea of owning a home all together. In this week's story “Time Arbitrage” a couple is just about ready to give up themselves, when they learn about a company offering an unexpected solution to the problem. If you have a story you'd like to contribute to the series, you can visit https://submissions.soundconceptmedia.com/Curator: Keith Conrad linktr.ee/keithrconradNarrator: Darren Marlar https://darrenmarlar.com/Other shows hosted by Darren:Weird Darkness: https://weirddarkness.com/Paranormality Magazine: https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/paranormalitymagMicro Terrors: Scary Stories for Kids: https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/microterrorsRetro Radio – Old Time Radio In The Dark: https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/retroradioChurch of the Undead: https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/churchoftheundead Hosted on Acast. We're living in a world where artificial intelligence has become a legitimate threat. It's not 2023... it's 1984. But two mysterious figures have traveled back in time from 2029 to kill the mother of the man who will save humanity. They arrive naked - and bring all sorts of plot holes with them. Keith Conrad joins me to discuss 1984's epic sci-fi/action flick: "The Terminator". A modest little movie that spawned a six-film franchise which still tries to justify some of the shortcomings of the original. FUN FACT: The number of words in these show notes are greater than the number of words Arnold Schwarzenegger speaks in the film. --- Music from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!): https://uppbeat.io/t/moire/space-ranger License code: RDDJNOUVQCDNNUPB
Pop culture over the past twenty years or so is riddled with stories about pioneering scientists visiting new worlds. In the 1990's there was Sliders, there was also Stargate SG-1 with a different planet every week. In this week's story "Dimension of the Lost," three scientists visit three different dimensions. Two of them have life-changing experiences, while the third ends up solving a mystery that has haunted humanity for generations.Curator: Keith Conrad linktr.ee/keithrconradNarrator: Darren Marlar https://darrenmarlar.com/Other shows hosted by Darren:Weird Darkness: https://weirddarkness.com/Paranormality Magazine: https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/paranormalitymagMicro Terrors: Scary Stories for Kids: https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/microterrorsRetro Radio – Old Time Radio In The Dark: https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/retroradioChurch of the Undead: https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/churchoftheundead Hosted on Acast. Keith Conrad, a longtime radio producer and podcast extraordinaire, shares his wisdom on podcasting and offers valuable advice for aspiring podcasters. Key Takeaways: - Prioritizing Purpose: Have a clear purpose for your podcast and stay true to it. Whether you're passionate about history, storytelling, or any other subject, your genuine interest will shine through in your content. - Avoiding Podfade: Keith defines "podfade" as the gradual decline in podcast production due to inconsistency. To avoid podfade, he recommends planning ahead and having a buffer of episodes ready to go before you launch. Consistency is key in podcasting. - Crafting Compelling Stories: Keith highlights the power of storytelling in podcasting. He shares examples from his own podcasts, emphasizing that finding a unique angle and engaging narrative can set your podcast apart. - Managing Resistance: Resistance is a natural part of any creative endeavor. Keith advises podcasters to plan for resistance, understand it's part of the process, and keep going. Done is better than perfect. - Embracing Vulnerability: Podcasting is an art, and perfectionism can hinder your progress. Keith encourages aspiring podcasters to embrace vulnerability, be themselves, and create content that resonates with their audience. - Trust the Process: Trusting the podcasting process is essential. Keith reminds us that not everyone will be your target audience, and that's okay. Your people will find you if you stay true to your purpose and passion. This episode is a treasure trove of insights for anyone considering starting a podcast or looking to improve their existing podcast. Whether you're interested in history, storytelling, or any other niche, Keith's experience and advice will help you on your podcasting journey.

With the rising attacks on cybersecurity, AI technology evolving, and significant advances to our technology, why do you need to be secure with technology? And better yet, HOW do you do it?Keith Conrad joins me on Counsel Cast this week to discuss the ways in which we can become safer and more secure with technology. Keith is a recovering Washington insider who has been at the forefront of aligned business transitioning for legal operations. He worked in Washington DC as a Strategic Legal Business Consultant and Transition Specialist for more than two decades. His clients include multinational AmLaw firms and government regulatory and intelligence agencies. He left Washington to help smaller law firms become more efficient, competitive, and profitable. His legal and regulatory experience means that he doesn't just know the buzzwords; he understands the business of law. Keith has acquired a depth of expertise in the business of small law firms, which gives him a rare insight into streamlining performance and moving firms away from inefficient “siloed” legal operations. He specializes in translating complex legal processes and technology into efficient and highly effective law firm operational strategies and capturing business value via strategic performance. He cost-effectively transitions legal operations, the legal value dialog, and the lawyer/client/staff relationship.Keith gives listeners actionable tips on: [3:05] How outdated policies keep you vulnerable [6:00] The importance of having SOPs and knowing where to find them [7:05] Costs associated with securing your data [9:35] The differences in security for small and big firms [11:20] How long security updates take [14:30] Why 'quick updates' don't always work [18:30] Keith's book recommendation Resources mentioned in this episode:The Small Firm Roadmap by Aaron StreetConnect with Keith here: LinkedIn www.verbatimdata.com Connect with me Instagram Pinterest Facebook Twitter Karin on Twitter Karin on LinkedIn Conroy Creative Counsel on Facebook https://conroycreativecounsel.com

Your Heard Tell for Wednesday, September 7th, 2022 is turning down the noise of the news cycle and getting to the information we need to discern the time we live in by skipping the platitudes and having some honest talk about observing the September 11th terrorist attack for the 21st time. Meanwhile over in Ukraine, Russia is in retreat in the field and in the propaganda war, we'll update the latest reports. Our guest today is Caden Rosenbaum, lawyer, Young Voices contributor, and policy analyst at the Libertas Institute and we are talking Amazon. Cade uses the examples of products like robot vacuums, Ring doorbells, and Kindle to talk the reach of Amazon, affects on consumers, changing technology, the calls for regulating it, and what is and isn't a monopoly or violations of anti-trust. Cade also discusses perceptions of disruptive businesses like Amazon, how technology and the market always run ahead of legislation, media narratives surrounding it, and the hot takes and noise on social media. Cade also discusses how consumer benefit, not corporate bias, should be the focus of government regulation and oversight. Also, we highlight a podcast about and charity work of Special Olympics in the Chicago area courtesy of our friend Keith Conrad.
