May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices. Over-drinking is usually a sign that our mental health is in need of some help. Over-drinking is a symptom. For a lot of my clients, it's a symptom of stress, high levels of anxiety, overwhelm, loneliness, grief, big painful life changes or traumatic events like a high conflict divorce or a major medical diagnoses. Using alcohol as a way to cope is a sign that your mental health could use some support. It's not something to be ashamed of or to keep a secret. If you've been struggling with alcohol use and you identify as someone who is using alcohol as a way to cope (or another sign is, finding it very hard to stop automatic behavior and can't identify the cause of your over-drinking) it's time to get help. Tune into this podcast episode and hear the intersections of mental health and over consumption of alcohol. Join me for The Pivot. You are in for a very special treat on the podcast today! I had the honor to interview my dear client, Suzanne. Suzanne joined my 6-month Stop Over-drinking and Start Living program almost 4 years ago and I've been working with her ever since. She shares how she kicked alcohol to the curb (although that was never her goal!) and then STARTED LIVING! We go into what Suzanne was feeling before she decided to try coaching with me, she had deep beliefs of 'feeling 2nd' and 'not good enough' and 'I'm a failure,' that ran the entire course of her life. She ultimately decided she had nothing to lose and took a leap of faith and to say she's an example of what is possible is a complete understatement of the 360 transformation she has had. She also talks about the difference between therapy and coaching, which I love how she explains it. She shares how powerful learning how to manage her mind is and how in such a short amount of time, she's completely transformed her life, grown her business, fallen in love and .... I'll let you find out the rest when you listen to this special episode. We can learn so much from Suzanne and her deep wisdom in choosing HERSELF and going after the life she knew she wanted. She leaves you with it's never to late and you are not too old. At 68 years old is when she began this journey and now almost 72, she is just getting started! Also, she shares what she is proudest of the most and it will touch your heart instantly! Thank you Suzanne, it's an honor and I can't wait to see you soon!!! Are you being the kind of judge you'd actually want? Or are you stacking the scale with every little “failure” and ignoring all your wins? This week, I'm showing you how to shift that inner justice system—so you can rebuild self-trust and actually see your progress. Tune in and take a moment to actually weigh the evidence—like a real judge would—we'd likely see the wins far outnumber the fails. And here's the kicker: when we judge ourselves unfairly, we stop trusting ourselves. We stop seeing progress. And we stop moving forward. Be the kind of judge you'd want. Caring, fair, and compassionate! Also, get ready for The Path, 4 days, one decision, a whole new chapter. The Path is a live coaching event hosted by me, going down June 2nd-June 5th. On Wednesday's Morning Focus, we were joined by Cathal Crowe. The Meelick Fianna Fáil TD was refuting reports he called for the reinstatement of Shannon Airport Stopover Rule. The rule, which compelled transatlantic flights to the Republic of Ireland to stop at the Clare airport, was ended in 2008, following the EU-US ‘Open Skies' agreement. According to the trade publication Travel Extra, Deputy Crowe had recently called for legislation demanding that flights stop at Shannon, in line with the “stopover” rule. This led to the CEO the DAA, Kenny Jacobs describing any resurrection of the rule as “bizarre”. To discuss this further, Alan Morrissey was joined by Owner of Travel Extra, Eoghan Corry.
If you've ever felt like you made a decision around drinking that really doesn't align with goals that you've already made, you're not alone. The addicted mind has an attachment to alcohol and you can easily recognize it if you start paying attention to certain ways of thinking. In this episode, I discuss several signs that you can easily recognize when your addicted mind has taken the wheel. 1. Everything feels urgent 2. Your thoughts start justifying or minimizing 3. You disconnect from your long-term self 4. You get defensive or resistant to your plan 5. You go numb or go on autopilot And I discuss what to do when you notice that your addicted mind has taken over! Don't miss this episode! In this episode, we explore a sneaky obstacle that can make changing your relationship with alcohol feel way harder than it needs to be: the fear of urges. It's not just the desire to drink that holds you back—it's the anxiety and resistance you feel about having that desire in the first place. I'll break down what's really going on when you're afraid of feeling an urge, how that fear can keep you stuck, and why learning to allow urges (instead of fighting them or fearing them) is a game-changer. We'll also do a short, guided practice to help you connect with your body and build confidence that you can handle discomfort, without giving in to old patterns. This is a powerful reframe that will help you move through urges with more ease, trust, and self-compassion.Now enrolling for Stop Over-drinking and Start Living my signature 6-month, small group, high-touch coaching program for the July 2025 cohort. A lot of people put off changing their relationship with alcohol because life feels too uncertain, but in reality, it's one of the best times to do the work. In this podcast, I discuss common beliefs about changing a personal behavior when things feel difficult. If you are thinking: “This isn't the right time to focus on my drinking.” I'd love for you to be open to thinking, “What if this is actually the best time?” Often, people believe they need stability to make changes. They wait for things to calm down before starting. But waiting often means staying stuck. Life rarely hands us the perfect time. Uncertainty can reveal your habits, patterns, and emotional coping more clearly than calm times ever will. And uncertainty can be a great time to make significant and permanent changes to your drinking. I share the reasons why in the podcast, DON'T MISS! From her experience with Jacques Garcia and Jean-Philippe Nuel, Stéphanie Cayet retains the experience of interior architecture applied to the hotel program, an exercise that constitutes the essence of her activity today. Stéphanie CAYET claims a method, rather than a style. As an expert in experiential hotel design, the interior architect imagines an original concept for each décor. This scenario, nourished by the context of the project, aims at emotion beyond comfort. For her, this is the key to opening places that are as durable as they are memorable. "I believe that the user must be able to feel that, above all, we have thought of him" she confides.Image teaser © Stéphanie CayetSound engineering : Julien Rebours___If you like the podcast do not hesitate:. to subscribe so you don't miss the next episodes,. to leave us stars and a comment :-),. to follow us on Instagram @comdarchipodcast to find beautiful images, always chosen with care, so as to enrich your view on the subject.Nice week to all of you ! This episodes discusses the importance of doing the things that WORK to keep you drinking less or alcohol free. A lot of times, we start to feel good and we let the practices that work slip away, and that is when things can get away from us. I share a story of a small decision that helped me stay ahead of holiday stress, getting over-hungry and a cascade of events that can happen when we put our priorities and what is good for us last on the list. Staying ahead of it is critical during busy and stressful times. What is IT? It is feeling run-down, burnt out, overwhelmed, over-hungry, drained, or feeling thin. When we feel this way, we are susceptible to our old patterns of seeking comfort, ie ALCOHOL or food to comfort ourselves. And we know that relying on these things for comfort doesn't really work because we over-do it and then feel even worse. So we have to stay AHEAD of it by taking care of ourselves, slowing down and prioritizing our well being. You deserve to build in time for yourself to take good care of you no matter what is going on! Podcast rewind, this episode gives you permission to not feel obligated to do all the things around the holidays that you normally do 'just because it's family' or otherwise. I discuss how you have free will and autonomy as an adult to decide if you do things or not. You don't have to do anything you don't want to do. And yes, some people won't like it and it's ok. If you do decide to do it even though you don't like it, own that it was still your decision to make. You will feel more empowered and better about being there than telling yourself you have to suck it up because it's what's expected of you. Learning how to start honoring yourself and doing things that are right for you is a process, take it slow, and watch how when you start honoring yourself, you feel better and will not need to escape with alcohol as much. Have you heard the phrase 'we can't do it alone?' Well, you are in for a special treat today because two of my amazing clients agreed to join me today on the podcast and discuss the value and importance of community. I just held a short retreat for a lovely group of women whom I have been working together with for the past 5 months. We have connected, we shared hard stories, we celebrated each other, we coached, and we healed, it was truly a transformative experience and it all came together in person, here in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. On the podcast we discussed how it's easier to be vulnerable in a group of women who share the same struggles vs family or friends, the benefits of communities where you are all working towards similar goals, what letting go of perfection can do for you and so much more! I'm so thankful for Deborah and Julie's willingness to come on the podcast today, I hope you find this episode moving and encouraging to join a group or community to get the help you deserve! Here is the link to sign up for the How to Enjoy the Holidays Without Over-drinking class https://www.angelamascenik.com/holidaysMake sure you sign up for the class so you can hear the details of the new Stop Over-drinking and Start Living program that will be open for early-bird enrollment next week!!! We are celebrating 300 episodes of the Stop Over-drinking and Start Living Podcast! Coach Steph Tell happily joined me today and together we reflected on 300 episodes. Coach Steph joined my original small group coaching program right when I started this version of the podcast in January 2019. She's been here for the full journey of this podcast, multiple coaching programs launched, and has seen hundreds of women come through all working on their own relationship with alcohol. We discuss the most common trends over the past 5 years that include, coaching on relationships, including those adult children, evening routines that make it feel impossible to cut back, how people handle failures, and how doing the work for 5 years just makes you better and better. Happy July, I am super excited about my 30-days of sober sunrise project I am doing this month at Carolina Beach, NC. You can read about it here, https://www.angelamascenik.com/blog I'll be updating it everyday. I'm celebrating 6 years of alcohol free lifestyle this summer and I wanted to do something big. This episode explains the project and the work involved in setting myself up to do it. It's not 'easy.' Just like stopping over-drinking isn't easy or changing any behavior we have been doing for years. And, I'd argue it shouldn't be easy. It should take effort, because that is what makes life interesting. The work you put into it is difficult, there are failures and obstacles along the way, but when you do the thing you have been wanting to, it makes all that work worth it. And maybe it shouldn't be easy for our kids either. We all want better lives for our kids and we want to infuse our wisdom of life experiences into them, so they don't make mistakes or struggle. But when we push too hard and get so upset when they don't do what we think they should, it causes us unnecessary discomfort and suffering, which is no fun. Life if full of challenges, and mistakes, and obstacles and that is how we learn. A married couple, Bob and Millie Frazier, wake up in an unfamiliar bedroom in an unfamiliar house. Millie remembers only that Bob drank too much at a party the night before, and that after drinking a couple and while driving him home to Manhattan, a large shadow appeared over their car near Riverdale. Figuring some strangers took them in, they discover that the house is mostly props. The telephone has no connection, the cabinetry is merely glued-on facing, and the refrigerator is filled with plastic food and empty cartons. They hear a girl's laughter and go outside to find the child. However, once outside, they discover that the houses are props and the town is unfamiliar and deserted; not even birds are heard. They find a stuffed squirrel, knock on the door of another house, and since it is Sunday, search for help in a church, which is also vacant. Bob rings the bell in the church's bell tower to attract attention. When no one comes, the increasingly desperate couple discovers no one is there, all the while hearing the young girl's laughter intermittently. They find even the trees are fake. A sudden fire on the ground reveals that the grass is papier-mâché. They see a parked car near some stores, and find only a mannequin in the driver's seat. Although the keys are in the ignition, the car will not start since it has no engine. Millie begins to panic, proposing that they actually had crashed and died, and that they are in Hell. Bob gives her a cigarette to calm her nerves, They hear a train whistle thinking there is a railroad here and, eager to leave the strange town, rush to the train station where they find the ticket booth closed and board the empty train. As the train pulls away from the station (revealed to be in "Centerville"), they begin a lighthearted conversation, vastly relieved, admitting that Millie had been drinking as well. However, when the train comes to a stop again, they realize it has only gone in a circle, and they are back where they started. They leave the train and begin walking out of town, once again hearing a little girl's laughter. As they prepare for the long road ahead of them to hopefully leave centervile A large shadow falls over them and they flee, they run around the streets and stumble only to be scooped up by the hand of a gigantic child. The town is now revealed to be a model village with a miniature railway running around it. An even taller figures emerges and says, "Be careful with your pets, dear--daddy brought them all the way from Earth." At her mother's bidding, the little girl drops the couple back into the town. Bob and Millie hopelessly continue their running, apparently looking for a place to hide.

Protestors have demanded an end to the alleged use of Shannon Airport as a "stopover" for US planes supporting the Israeli bombardment of Gaza. Up to 30 activists from Dublin for Gaza and Action for Palestine Ireland occupied the departures hall of Shannon Airport on Sunday calling for inspections to be carried out of US aircraft passing through the facility. Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan has insisted no US planes transporting weapons to Israel are travelling through Irish airports but Minister of State Jack Chambers has stated there's no record of an inspection of a civil aircraft suspected of carrying arms. Action for Palestine Ireland spokesperson, Léna Seale believes despite the government's claims, Shannon Airport is facilitating bloodshed in the Middle East.

What do you want to hear on the Stop Over-drinking and Start Living podcast? Today, I'm answering this question: How can you positively influence someone you care about who is over drinking such that it is negatively impacting not only your relationship with them, but many areas of their life and how they show up? How to support and inspire positive changes? Tune in and hear the answer! Also, will you share my podcast? Chances are you know a lot of people that struggle with alcohol. Most people who over-drink don't openly share their struggle with family and friends because they don't want to be judged. So, it's helpful, that if you know of a resource to help people with it, to just share it, you never know whose life you might help. I would love it if you shared my story, my Facebook or Instagram pageAngela Mascenik or this free podcast, Stop Over-drinking and Start Living.
