Big Fat Five: A Podcast Financially Supported by Big Fat Snare Drum
This week's guest is Kellii Scott - drummer for the band Failure. He's also worked with Liquid Jesus, A Perfect Circle, Queens of the Stoneage, Veruca Salt, Pink, James Blunt, Christina Aguilera, Linda Perry, Faith Hill, etc.…it's all over the place. He's a monster-of-a-player and, while we've known OF each other from afar for a bit, we finally got to meet backstage at a Sunny Day Real Estate concert recently in LA (thanks to William Goldsmith!). I hope you enjoy my interview with Kellii Scott about the 5 records that shaped him into the drummer he is today. Cheers! Call / Text Me your picks @ (424) 253-6676 Just state: ⁃ Your name ⁃ Where you're calling from ⁃ A little backstory of yourself as a drummer (whatever you feel comfortable with…but do some self promotion, we all want to support you!) *Heads up : this episode talks at length about drugs, addiction, suicide* In this incredibly raw chat, Kelllii Scott, drummer for FAILURE ( and a host of other bands) shares that the drugs/substances are not the problem, you are. He talks about 12 step programs, asking for help, leading by example, taking accountability and addressing your issues. We agree that connection is everything, integrity and showing up is vital. Real changes mean that your actions and worlds line up, otherwise your word means nothing and you continue to betray yourself. This may hit hard, but it is an absolutely a necessary dialogue to listen to. We do talk about music too! - drumming and creativity I find out finally what that "mystery snare" is , do I find out what " The Nurse who loved me" is about? and how Louise from Veruca Salt getting him back into music. If I had my way, I would play this to everyone because the messaging is so potent and so critical right now. We all have levels of addictions, we all create narratives...what's yours?
Antonio sits down with John LaMacchia to talk about their upcoming show with their new bands, LaMacchi and Kult Leader which is the new synth pop project from Antonio Longo. LaMacchia is the new project led by musician and artist John LaMacchia of Brooklyn prog-metal's legendary Candiria. The result is what we wish post-aughts music would have sounded like; layered with new-wave moodiness, and akin to Autolux, Massive Attack, Doves and Liars, to name a few. And with the musicians he sought out to fulfill that burden, including Kellii Scott on drums (Failure), Michael MacIvor on bass (Candiria), Mario Quintero (Spotlights) and vocalists Sabrina Ellie, Candice Freshko and Andrea Horne (Vaureen). --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nobodyspeaks/support
OUR BIGGEST EPISODE YET!Following the recent death of Foo Fighter Taylor Hawkins, The Cacophony Sessions Podcast decided it would be an appropriate time to discuss our fifteen favourite drummers of all time according to tonight's panel. Banging on about drums for over three hours this time around are Dan Whitell, Dan B, Alex, Martyn and Tom each with three nominations. We cover a lot of different aspects of drumming, from both a technical standpoint as well as from a more casual perspective. Hopefully we can help you to develop a newfound passion for these purveyors of percussion. If not, we still have all our usual swearing, fighting and outlandish opinions, with a new segment called 'Does It Slap?' (complete with a shit jingle), rock's greatest sneeze, posing for photos with Daniel Day-Lewis lookalikes and all the latest new releases that have caught our attention. As mentioned in this episode, please hit us up on Twitter or Our Blog for the latest CSP news and ask us your burning questions with a view to our future plans for Patreon Q&A specials. Leave us a review on Apple Music and subscribe where you can. Thanks to our friends at Chart Music and The Simon Says Music Podcast as well; please go and support them and we'll see you all next month for The Cacophony Sessions Goes Pop USA!Stay Funky. All music courtesy of Dan Whitell and Martyn Ley.
The Pipeman interviews John La Macchia. This is his first solo work ever. The pandemic gave John the opportunity to write new music from him and that was true to him. He had time to work and perfect it during the pandemic. There was psychedelic vibe to the Bled Out video. The writing process was very therapeutic to John. Johns' music can be very dark, and he sings about things that upset him. Because of that it allows him to release and be a happy person. For a long time, John didn't want to see celebrity wearing metal band shirts. The way it is now you have access to all kinds of music. The debut album called Thunderheads due May 20 on aqua lamb records. There are a few ways you can get the record. Each purchase comes with 100-page book of additional content. You can connect with John on all major platforms. You can stream on all major streaming platforms. He will be doing many tour dates to come. On May 20, the anticipated debut album from LaMacchia will be released via Aqualamb Records. Called Thunderheads, it features nine sweeping tracks that mark the first solo works from John LaMacchia – best known as the guitarist for Brooklyn hardcore/prog-metal group Candiria – though the new material is unlike anything the multi-instrumentalist has done to date and shows a new breadth to his versatile talent. Today, LaMacchia releases a psychedelic-tinged new video for the first single “Bled Out,” a deep dive through crunchy guitars and free-falling bass, entwined with the candy-sweet vocals blend of LaMacchia and Sabrina Ellie. The totality of Thunderheads presents a moody, experimental indie rock vibe, with layered sonic nuances and male-female vocal interplay that presents a dimensional new palette that is comparable to Massive Attack, Doves and Radiohead. Composed and recorded over the course of 2020 and 2021 during the pandemic break, Thunderheads plays like a lullaby for the apocalypse. With healthy doses of self-respect and emotional bravery that serve as a salve for our pandemic-weary heart, it allows listeners to escape a world that is falling apart with music and creativity. In addition to John LaMacchia, who has recorded all of the guitars, vocals, keyboards and programming for Thunderheads, additional guest contributions come courtesy of Kellii Scott (Failure) on drums, Michael MacIvor (Candiria) on bass guitar, Mario Quintero (Spotlights) on keyboards and Andrea Horne (Vaureen), Candice Freshko and Sabrina Ellie on vocals. Presales for Thunderheads are available now at Aqualamb Records' website with blue and pink vinyl variants, CD and digital options. Each purchase comes with an accompanying 100-page book filled with lush artwork, drawings, lyrics and additional content to get inside the mind of LaMacchia and the creative process. This episode I was fortunate enough to be handed this idea from Jason Thomson of Vast Robot Armies. I’m joined by Jason, Jordon Zadorozny of Blinker the Star, Allen Epley of The Life and Times, & Kellii Scott from Failure. We have a roundtable discussion on the best and worst drummers in 80’s hard rock & metal. You may notice a few technical issues during this episode. I did. But the discussion was so much fun that I had to release it. Follow all of us on social media. And enjoy Performance Anxiety’s Side Projects: Drummer’s Roundtable.
I recently saw Failure live in DC. The show was great, but I was also blown away by the lighting. I hung out with Kellii Scott after the show and he introduced me to the Lighting Designer/Director, Gigi Pedron. I asked her to come onthe show to explain what she does and how she began her career. She's worked with Prince, Queens of the stone Age, Failure, Garbage, Jack White, and so many more. Follow her @gigilights on social media. Check out her site, www.gigilights.com. L.A. alternative rock trio Failure have always blazed their own unique musical path, a mix of melody and dissonance that has garnered them a devoted cult following thanks to albums like Fantastic Planet and The Heart is A Monster. The space rockers have had a busy 2018, releasing three EP's and their new full-length album In The Future Your Body Will Be The Furthest Thing From Your Mind (out November 16 on the band's Failure Music label). On this week's episode, drummer Kellii Scott takes us through the creative process behind the series of EP's and full-length album, the most challenging tracks, the ups and downs of social media, and touring plans for 2019. So check out the interview, followed by a track from the new album (Heavy and Blind). *This episode is sponsored by pocketcasts.com --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/slis/support

Ep66 is with Kellii Scott of the band Failure. It was an honor talking to him. We discuss their new music being released in unique way through EPs that will culminate into a full length. In 1997 Failure had it all; a growing legion of fans, a community of supportive artists and a fantastic creative effort in the album "Fantastic Planet". Then....they broke up. Nearly 20 years later they mended fences, personally and creatively, and began the next chapter, releasing the album "The Heart is a Monster" and now touring the US and beyond. Today we talk to Kellii Scott of the band about the arc of the band and their recent return to studio and stage. If you like records, just starting a collection or are an uber-nerd with a house-full of vinyl, this is the podcast for you. Nate Goyer is The Vinyl Guide and discusses all things music and record-related. Web | Facebook | Instagram | YouTube
Kellii Scott moved to Los Angeles at age 17 with dreams of rock stardom. He finally accomplished this goal as the drummer for Failure's acclaimed 1996 album, Fantastic Planet. After the dissolution of the band, he stayed busy as an artist but fell deep into drug addiction and homelessness. He tells Joe how he got sober, learned to forge lasting relationships, and why he loves his life now more than ever.

Back in January, Kellii Scott of Failure joined us to discuss the reunion of his band, his career in music, and their in-progress recordings. Eight months later, the album has been released, so it’s the perfect time to have Kellii back on to talk about Failure’s new album, their fourth overall and first in nineteen years, The Heart Is A Monster. To help us do so, we’re rejoined by our old friend Keith Jenkins, who revisited Fantastic Planet with us way back on episode #12. We talk writing, recording, mixing and touring the new album, plus learn more interesting anecdotes from Kellii, like auditioning for Queens of the Stone Age and why he’ll never be on a Desert Sessions recording (hint: it’s too hot), how the democratic process influences his preferred number of band members, what’s the best tank-driving song on THIAM, what a Pledge campaign is really like for bands, how softer is sometimes better when recording drums, why it’s good to have an app on your phone to order food in the studio, and much, much more. Grab a beverage and a snack, and plant yourself in a comfortable chair for this two-plus hour in-depth discussion.Songs in this episode:Intro - The Focus19:42 - Hot Traveler36:33 - A.M. Joining us this week is Kellii Scott of the recently reunited Failure, who will release their first new (and fourth overall) album this Spring (most likely May). Kellii takes us through his drumming history, starting out listening to AC/DC and Rush records while staring at KISS Alive artwork, through his move to Los Angeles and starting out with Liquid Jesus before joining Failure. He shares the story of how he joined Failure (and almost blew it), through the making of Fantastic Planet to the demise of the band, as well as his post Failure gigs playing with Blinker the Star and Veruca Salt, as well as a drumming for Linda Perry, up to the writing and recording of the as-yet-untitled album (we tried to get it out of him!) in progress. How are Failure songs written? Is Fantastic Planet a concept album? What was the catalyst for the band reuniting? Can a band with "mystique" survive in the social media world? We answer all these questions and many more.Note: the sound quality is a little bumpy for the first six or so minutes thanks to a choppy phone connection, but clears up after that.Songs in this Episode:Intro - The Focus by Failure9:52 - The Colourful Ones by Liquid Jesus25:46 - Let It Drip (Demo) by Failure37:03 - Heliotropic by Failure56:49 - Enjoy The Silent (Depeche Mode cover) by Failure1:09:44 - Lift Me Up by Christina Aguilera1:15:17 - So Weird by Veruca SaltOutro - Come Crashing by FailureFollow on Twitter / FacebookRequest A Review / Buy A T-Shirt
