Today, we're diving into the eerie and unconventional world of D, the 1995 psychological horror game that blurred the lines between cinema and interactivity. We begin by exploring the life and legacy of its creator, Kenji Eno, a bold and unpredictable developer whose rebellious spirit defined his work and studio, Warp. Then, we unpack the fascinating development of D, from its origins as a simple adventure title to the last-minute addition of graphic violence and cannibalism—smuggled into the final release via a secret disc swap to avoid censorship. We'll also examine how D's surprise success on the 3DO and infamous release on PlayStation shaped Eno's dramatic fallout with Sony. Finally, we reflect on the cult legacy of D, its place in horror game history, and how Warp's experimental spirit left an unexpected mark on the gaming world. So grab your flashlight and prepare for a haunting journey into one of gaming's strangest success stories on today's trip down Memory Card Lane. Vampires, witches, and werewolves OH MY! Resident Evil Village at last has a set date. May 7, 2021. I hope to have a PS5 by then, but no sweat. RE Village will be on the older gen systems and will receive a free upgrade! Yay!! I also speculate on what I think will take place. Here is a link to the tweet and Gofundme page for Jeanette Maus. Help out if you can. https://twitter.com/TheSphereHunter/status/1354884502011564032 With the success of Mario's 35th anniversary, it seems other franchises are following suit. Tomb Raider had an official announcement this past week. Though no games are mentioned, a Netflix anime series was. They are looking to connect the reboot trilogy with the PS1 classics. I'm thinking they will do re-imaginings of the older games to make them fit in with the newer Lara Croft, then when we're caught up, a new game will take off. This is exciting! Check out the announcement video here: https://twitter.com/tombraider/status/1354555416210857988 Fatal Frame was also mentioned earlier this month and I hope we're in for some real treats. The Fatal Frame series is quality and I hope they do us fans good. I'd love to see newer players experience these classics. Read more here: https://bloody-disgusting.com/video-games/3646894/fatal-frame-producer-teasing-possible-series-20th-anniversary-celebration/ The last bit of the episode is dedicated to the Sega Dreamcast game "D2" from the mind of Kenji Eno his studio, Warp. It's a shame that these games are falling into obscurity. This was one of the strangest games I've gotten to play. The Dreamcast had some interesting ideas for sure. The last bit of the audio can get a little loud. I also recommend you watch the video on youtube as well to see how the scene plays out. There's a big surprise at the end. Very disturbing. In the newest(-to-you)* episode of Video Game Grooves, Anthony and Jeremy tag-team the game-music-on-vinyl scene with a little bit of "weird, avant-garde, and fairly isolated" and also some "has its DNA in everything and is a major publisher's new bread-and-butter." We begin this journey of obscurity and ubiquity with D2 Remixes, an album based on the Kenji Eno survival horror game D2 for the Dreamcast. Although the game itself is an evolutionary dead end, the music itself is very modern... and catchy! Anthony takes us on a voyage of drum 'n' bass beats and gonzo horror creatures to bring us to vinyl knowledge of The Other Eno. Next, Jeremy steps up to the plate with the formerly-obscure-but-now-inescapable Monster Hunter franchise, with the recent Monster Hunter 15th Anniversary release from T-Annex. Music from the earliest days of monster hunting up through the latest expansion for Monster Hunter World is represented here, and Jeremy and Anthony take the opportunity to traverse the history of the series to chase the choicest tracks for your listening pleasure. But after all is said and done, the important question is: Which of our features is the car-chasiest? We continue onward diligently to the news and new releases, directing you to the usual suspects that want to sop up your spare cash. A couple of re-releases and a number of artistic reinterpretations have caught our attention this time, and we think they'll do the same for you!  Finally, we spend a bit of time ruminating on the best way to gift others of the video game vinyl persuasion for the Christmas season for the Valentine's Day season, and how to help those in your life be bold in gifting you. Welcome to The Diad Presents! First, a correction. Between the time I recorded the episode and posted the finished mp3 file, I discovered that I had misstated the composer information for Casino Kid II. Originally, I read that the soundtrack was composed by Toshio Murai, but the actual end game credits list the composers only as “EIM Ltd.” "EIM" stands for "Entertainment Imagination and Magnificence," and after some further research, it seems that the likely composers are actually Kenji Eno and Michiya Hirasawa. I'm still not certain, but I feel more comfortable listing them instead of Murai. The show can be downloaded here, or streamed here: And the track list below: # - Game - Track - System - Composer 1 - Casino Kid II - Track 7 - NES/FC - Kenji Eno, Michiya Hirasawa (?) 2 - Casino Kid II - Track 8 - NES/FC - Kenji Eno, Michiya Hirasawa (?) 3 - Vegas Stakes (GB) - Track 6 (The 2020) - Game Boy - Manami Matsumae 4 - Vegas Stakes (SNES) - The 2020 - SNES/SFC - Kimitaka Matsumae 5 - Vegas Stakes (SNES) - Golden Paradise - SNES/SFC - Kimitaka Matsumae 6 - Poker Face Paul - Monte Carlo - Game Gear - Mark Cooksey 7 - Caesars Palace - Title - Genesis/MD - Tommy Tallrico & Steve Henefin 8 - Parlor! In this episode, Rudie goes slightly pre-dumpster diving in the Gamestop PS2 bargain bins, which leads to discussions of Flipnic and a few other not-quite-notable games.  Then Rudie and Chris settle into talking about one of the strangest, most wonderful game developers ever, Kenji Eno.  He might be an alien, but that is A-OK.

**_Capcom Generation 2: The Chronicles of Arthur_** Developer: Capcom / Publisher: Capcom *Ghosts'n Goblins (Makaimura) *Ghouls'n Ghosts (Dai Makaimura) *Super Ghouls'n Ghosts (Cho Makaimura) ** _D_** Developer: WARP / Publisher: Acclaim A horror themed interactive movie and adventure game directed by Kenji Eno. The first entry in the D series staring "digital actress" Laura, and controled through (FMV) sequences. Game must be completed within two hours without a save or pause function. ** _Deep Fear_** Developer: SEGA AM7 & System Sacom (Mansion & Lunacy) / Publisher: SEGA A 1998 survival horror game and SEGA's answer to Capcom's Resident Evil. The last Saturn game released in Europe. Features include: real-time item use, aiming while moving, and oxygen management. Music was composed by Kenji Kawai (The Ring, Ghost in Shell, Ranma, Kamen Rider). Creatures and Characters designed by manga artist Yasushi Nirasawa (Kamen Rider). ** _Dracula X_** Developer: Konami / Publisher: Konami Saturn version contains exclusive features, including new playable character (Maria Renard), new items, new enemies, two new areas (Cursed Prison and Underground Garden) and a secret outfit for Richter Belmont. A third equippable hand is available to Alucard for equipping usable items such as healing items. Badly ported because the PlayStation does not have a true 2D sprite mode. Developers did not take advantage of Saturn's sprite capabilities, forcing it to render using the same method as PlayStation. Resulted in stretched graphics (PS1 runs 256x224 resolution, while Saturn does 352x240), longer loading times, and altered transparency effects due to lack of alpha transparencies for 3D polygons. ** _Enemy Zero_** Developer: WARP / Publisher: SEGA A 1996 survival horror adventure directed by Kenji Eno. The second game to star "digital actress" Laura, and voiced by Jill Cunniff of Luscious Jackson. ** _House of the Dead_** Developer (Ported): Tantalus / Publisher: SEGA Port suffered from rushed development. Framerate drops to 20fps. Extra game modes were added which include character selection and a boss battle mode. ** _Lunacy (Gekka Mugentan Torico)_** Developer: System Sacom / Publisher: SEGA An interactive movie with a simple interface and complex puzzles. The game is primarily a long series of interconnecting FMV sequences. ** _Mr. Bones_** Developer: Zono Incorporated & Angel Studios (RE2 on N64) / Publisher: SEGA A multi-genre game created for SEGA by Ed Annunziata. Very few levels share the same gameplay or perspective. Genres include action/platform, music/rhythm, puzzle & memorization. The game's soundtrack was composed and performed by famed guitarist Ronnie Montrose. ** _Night Warriors: Darkstalkers Revenge_** Developer: Capcom / Publisher: Capcom Exclusive port to Saturn, while original Darkstalkers for PS had no confirmed release date, resulted in angry PS owners. The original Darkstalkers used 128MB for all characters, Vampire Hunter uses 256MB in total, resulting in an average of 500 extra patterns for all characters. ** _Resident Evil_** Developer: Capcom / Publisher: Capcom Saturn version added an unlockable Battle minigame where the player must traverse through a series of rooms from the main game and eliminate all enemies within them with the weapons selected by the player. Minigame features two exclusive enemies not in the main game: a zombie version of Wesker and a gold-colored Tyrant. The player's performance is graded at the end of the minigame. The Japanese version is the most gore-laden of all the platforms. Saturn version also features exclusive enemy monsters (re-skinned Hunters called Ticks and a second Tyrant prior to game's final battle) and exclusive outfits for Jill and Chris. Developer: Capcom / Publisher: Capcom Released in Japan only in 1998 and r
