Ever since Super Mario Bros. hit the NES in 1985, Nintendo's red cap wearing mustachioed hero has reigned supreme as a prominent face for his company Nintendo and video games as a whole. With the introduction of Mario and its success came a new sub-genre of video games, dubbed the “mascot platformer” in which a colorful character would hop, run and swim his way through vast and colorful worlds filled with Unique characters and challenges that await the player upon popping in a cartridge. Although the success rate of this video game genre can be hit or miss, we can never dismiss their involvement throughout our gaming experiences growing up and more importantly the Music that these games provided us within each new world we encountered. So this is why THIS STAGE of the Retro VGM revival Hour we are covering some of the best Music from various unknown, forgotten or in certain cases HATED mascot Video games. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Game – Composer – Title⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 1.) A game that was originally conceived in 1999 as a sequel to Resident Evil 3, this idea was eventually changed Due to the staff and more importantly the games director Hideki Kamiya seeing that it would not fit the Resident Evil franchise, the devil may cry series, its characters and its other sequels are still among one of capcoms most popular franchises. It’s seemed like a very hard task to top a year like 2017. In that year we saw some of the biggest names in video games reinvented and inject themselves with new life, from the lush open world of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to Resident Evil 7’s return to it’s horror roots to the manic wackiness of Super Mario Odyssey. But this past 2018 was also surprisingly strong, offering up an incredibly varied mix of interactive experiences to all who played. Blockbusters, like the Sonys Spider-Man and the incredibly detailed Red Dead Redemption 2 created an amazing year for gamers and it only seemed to get better with each upcoming game release! Each game that seemed to come out was placed in high regard and should be at the top of everyone’s gaming backlog. 2018 might have the strongest, most consistent year of quality games in quite long time. So as a returning favorite for the retro VGM revival hour, We will be playing some selected tracks from the various games of 2018. A game that originally began development as a sequel to the original Street Fighter, the first Final Fight game had to switch its genre from the original fighting game idea to a beat ’em up and gained worldwide success! With various ports, its sequels and its characters making appearances in other Capcom titles, It’s plain to see why the Final Fight series is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to talking about memorable games in Capcom’s legacy. With the series celebrating it’s 30th anniversary next year, what better way to celebrate one of my favorite beat ‘em up by sharing the Latest Retro VGM Revival Hour Episode focusing entirely on the amazing music of the final fight series. __________________________________________________________ Complete Track Listing available On the Official Nostalgia Road Trip Website over at: https://nostalgiaroadtrip.com/2018/08/stage-59-final-fight-tribute/ (Don't blame me, blame the Soundcloud text limit) Special Shout-out to Rusty Shackles for permission to use his Final Fight piece for this episode’s Cover art *Official site: http://tabletopfetus.com/ *Twitter: @rusty_shackles *Tumblr: https://paletteswapblog.tumblr.com/ Outro track Provided by THE MAD GEAR That track and full album available digitally on BANDCAMP https://themadgear.bandcamp.com/ FINAL FIGHT MUSIC VIDEO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_AqU7lJIAw Edgar Velasco: @MoonSpiderHugs www.patreon.com/nostalgiaroadtrip

While a small number of video game composers go on to achieve great fame thanks to their work in the industry, there are countless others who receive little to no attention at all . One of those often forgotten great video game composers is Tim Follin. A talented individual who’s career has been often hindered by the poor quality of the games he composed music for, so such that despite his considerable talent as a composer, his work is regularly overlooked in favor of other, more well known composers who simply had the good fortune to work on high profile releases. Regardless of the overall quality of the games Follin worked on, he always gave it his all and made some of the most memorable tracks in video game history. Tim Follin is unmistakably one of the absolute greats in the world of video game composition. Video games inspired by anime and manga have been around for quite a long time. A manga series becoming so popular that an anime series results from it, only to have it made onto a video game seems to be the next logical step. Why not? I mean Alot of anime is filled with over-the-top action and unique characters that the end result does lend well to a video game adaptation. So with that, this STAGE of the retro VGM revival hour is dedicated to video games based on a manga/anime series. =====Game - Composer - Title - Year - Company - System==== 1.)Ghost in the Shell - Takkyu Ishino - "Ghost in the Shell"- July 17, 1997 - Exact & Production I.G /THQ - Sony Playstation 2.) Konami was once synonymous with challenge, high quality and innovation going all the way back to the 8-bit era. The name was well known for great gameplay and amazing franchises, but over the past few years, this company seems to have lost its way. Konami fans have been clamoring to see a return of some of gaming’s most revered titles for some time, but all fan requests seem to have fallen on deaf ears as the company is moving away from traditional video games entirely to focus on other businesses (such as portable IOS games and gambling pachinko machines. This means they no longer have any interest in funding Metal Gear Solid games or even their silent hill franchise. Truly this has been a sad time for those who grew up on many Konami titles growing up. But this podcast is not to dwell on the bad, but to focus on the good things that KONAMI brought us: memorable gaming experiences, characters and most importantly amazing soundtracks. Which is why this stage of the retro VGM revival hour is dedicated to OLD SCHOOL KONAMI games…. This STAGE will be broken down into 2 parts…First part of this stage will be dedicated to the 8 bit music of KONAMI, while the second part will feature arcade and other system games…with that out of the way, lets us begin….. ***FULL PLAYLIST WILL BE AVAILABLE ON THESE SITES**** (Don't blame me, Blame SoundCloud for their 4000 text limit) http://skirmishfrogs.com/ http://maglomaniac.com/ https://retrovgmrevival.blogspot.com/ FaceBook: www.facebook.com/groups/vgmrevivalhour/ Tumblr: retro-vgm-revival-hour.tumblr.com/ Edgar Velasco: @MoonSpiderHugs GOOGLE PLAY: play.google.com/music/m/I2uvnfvy4…_VGM_REVIVAL_HOUR ALso Available on iTunes
