Episode 088: Roots by Arnold Wesker Host: Douglas Schatz Guest: Diyan Zora Welcome to The Play Podcast where we explore the greatest new and classic plays. Each episode we choose a single play to talk about in depth with our expert guest. We'll discuss the play's origins, its themes, characters, structure and impact. For us the play is the thing. Arnold Wesker's quiet classic, Roots, is a story of doomed love, rural poverty and social protest, and most of all, of cultural aspiration and growing up and away from family, from one's roots. We recorded this episode as a sensitive revival of the play was finishing its run at the Almeida theatre in London, and I was delighted to be able to talk to its director, Diyan Zora, about Wesker's love letter to his wife and her roots.
You were almost a Jill grinder. This week's Forced Retrospective we talk about the first 4 Resident Evil Biohazard games. This covers 0, the first game including the HD version, 2 and 2 remake, and 3 Nemesis with 3 Remake. Wesker you're pitiful! And you're ghey! We're continuing to release our classic episodes and this one was certainly an odd one. Poor Rory fell ill one week and couldn't record and so Jamie decided to grab a mic and record thoughts on this strange piece of Resident Evil content that Capcom released alongside limited editions of Resident Evil CODE: Veronica X. Shining some light on the actions of the series signature villain Albert Wesker, is there's anything in Wesker's Report that is still worth seeing in 2024? Hosted on Acast. David Rodríguez, Javi Cazallas y Dani Quesada repasan sus favoritos y comentan la actualidad de los videojuegos.
Howdy everybody! This episode the boys sit down to discuss some of the worst marketing ideas and campaigns in the history of video games. Things that make you wonder how the hell someone got paid to come with that idea? Get ready for such great campaigns as "Meat in the Streets!", "Deface Your Loved One's Graves!", "Commit Adultery!", and "Wanton Environmental Damage!" plus so so many more...unfortunately. This is First Aid Spray - a Resident Evil podcast by fans, for fans! We dust off the Profile series with a look back at the dark legacy of Resident Evil's biggest baddie, Albert Wesker. Rombie from The Resident Evil Podcast joins us to discuss the ebb and flow of Wesker's characterisation and appearances, from lead antagonist to man in the background, and quiet traitor to laughing megalomaniac. Which performances were our favourite? Will he return? And was his quest for world domination caused by Chris laughing at him? In the news, Resident Evil 4 Remake hits a major sales figure. Welcome to our end of year podcast where we see out 2023 with a deep dive into one of the more controversial eras of the series chronology. RE5 went out of its way to end several long-running, major plot points and left something of a blank slate for the storyline moving forward after killing off its main villain. Since then we've had a ton of media, not just new games, but also manga books and CGI movies, to progress the storyline from 2009-2015 in what we are calling the 'bioterrorism era'. We look at the various incidents and plot aspects that occurred during this period, analyzing what works and what doesn't. Just what is the difference between Blue Umbrella and Neo-Umbrella, what are the dangers and advantages of retroactive storytelling, and does Resident Evil now have a villain problem? Umbrella and Wesker are gone and yet the series seemingly struggles to leave them behind. In the news, STARS_TyranT offers his early impressions of Remake 4 VR. Please enjoy.

This episode, we focus on one of Gatman's most gafflingly grazen gad guys, the Ventriloquist (and Scarface!) Who's really pulling the strings? Listen now to find out! Intro Reminder of PuchiCon appearance Background (3:00) Important to note that in this version, the dummy was made from wood used in Blackgate's old gallows, and there are conflicting reports whether the dummy is possessed or not Ventriloquist (Arnold Wesker) created by John Wagner, Alan Grant, and Norm Breyfogle in Detective Comics #583 (Feb. 1988) Arnold Wesker is a meek man from a mafia family – originally developed DID after witnessing his mother's murder His origin was later retconned – imprisoned in Blackgate prison, he begins hearing voices from a dummy named Woody, and the voices convince him to murder his cellmate – during the fight, Woody is damaged, and takes on the name Scarface In either version, Scarface becomes the controlling force, and Wesker is his “puppet” - to the point that Scarface becomes enraged if people insist on speaking to Wesker and not him One telltale sign is that Wesker/Scarface is unable to pronounce the letter B, replacing it with G - Batman becomes Gatman, bullets become gullets, etc. At one point Wesker was committed to Arkham Asylum, and upon escaping used a sock puppet named Socko - when Scarface learned he had been replaced, he and Socko had a gunfight, resulting in damage to Wesker's hands #BecauseComics After an earthquake nearly destroys Gotham, a new villain called the Quakemaster shows up demanding a ransom to prevent further earthquakes - Tim Drake is able to deduce it's Scarface because Quakemaster refuses to pronounce words with the letter B Has an on-again/off-again partnership with the Penguin, where they often break each other out of prison and work together on criminal enterprises Murdered by Tally Man in an effort to frame Harvey Dent Later resurrected during Blackest Night as a member of the Black Lantern Corps, and creates a construct of Scarface with his ring New 52 - he was never killed, and was hospitalized for treatment of his DID Briefly controlled by the Venom serum, but was taken down by Nightwing and Damian Wayne Succeeded as Ventriloquist by a woman named Shauna Belzer, who had her own puppet Ferdie He helped Batman defeat Psycho-Pirate, because his DID was able to override Pirate's emotion control powers since Scarface was really in charge Issues - the pawn who would be king (7:03) Dissociation, Depersonalization, and Derealization Subordination (14:03) Masochism (21:04) Break (26:01) Plugs for Popcorn Psychology, Ocho Duro Parlay Hour, and Phillip Kennedy Johnson Treatment (26:56) In-universe - introduce ways to take Scarface out of commission Out of universe - work on scaling down and away from coping mechanism (30:10) Skit (34:06) DOC: Hello Mr. Wesker, I'm Dr. Issues. SCARFACE: Nope, you're talking to ME, doc. Leave the dummy outta this. WESKER: W-w-well at least l-l-let me say h-h-hello f-first. SCARFACE: Shut yer yap and lemme do the talking. The less you talk, the faster we can greak outta here and get gack to gusiness. DOC: I love Vaudeville as much as anybody, but SCARFACE: *interrupting* that explains your practice DOC: Hey! This is a serious establishment. Are you going to talk to me or not? WESKER: I-I-I SCARFACE: Aye Aye Aye is right! Sheesh! You gonna take the hint, shrinkydink? This mug is useless without me. I'm the grains of this operation. That's how I keep making gread. DOC: *flustered* Fine. Tell me, what can I do for you? SCARFACE: Can you crack safes? DOC: No SCARFACE: Can you crack heads? DOC: NO! SCARFACE: Knockaround guy? Gagman? DOC: No and No SCARFACE: Is your office a good place to do laundry, if ya catch my drift? DOC: I'm not doing anything illegal for you! SCARFACE: Then you're a waste of space like this guy over here! DOC: He is the reason you can talk at all! SCARFACE: waaaaatch your mouth, you're on thin ice, capiche? DOC: Mr. Wesker, are you going to stand for this? SCARFACE: He doesn't have to, that's why he's sittin down. And you're gonna be layin down for a dirt nap if you don't keep your eyes on me! DOC: You don't have any weapons. That tommy gun is a toy. I'm not stupid. SCARFACE: My noggin is like taking a Louisville slugger to the jaw if you're unprepared. DOC: If you're so bright, have you figured out a way to resolve your anger without resorting to violence? SCARFACE: Resort? You darn right I resort. A hideout full of moola and the screams of my enemies make crime a vacation. DOC: Is that what Wesker wants? SCARFACE: Who cares what he wants? DOC: I do. And if this is you, Arnold, then I'm willing to work with you in this…unique arrangement. SCARFACE: I'm confused. Are you talking to me or to him? DOC: Yes. SCARFACE: *pause* Ooooh, you're a slick one, aintcha? Gut there's no one else you need to talk to. DOC: Thank goodness. So, I'll make sure I only direct my questions to you, and you'll answer, and I'll make sure it's documented in your chart, under your name. Just spell it for me so I get it right. SCARFACE: S-C-A DOC: A-R-N SCARFACE: *screaming* THIS AIN'T A JOKE! DOC: I'm not laughing. I'm talking to you. I'm looking at you. I know you run the show, and I'm giving you the attention you deserve. If the other part is not important according to you, fine. But I won't let your reality get in the way of mine. SCARFACE: YOU SICKO! Don't toy with my emotions. DOC: Don't use your emotions as toys WESKER: Please stop fighting DOC: who said that? SCARFACE: NOBODY! DUMMY, SHUT UP! WESKER: yes sir DOC: You seem to have an issue with a part of you that is intimidated. What do you plan to do to strengthen it? SCARFACE: I'm not weak; that loser DOC:*interrupting* You're a loser; got it. SCARFACE: I'm not here to be insulted! WESKER: You usually leave that to me DOC: Progress! Now if you could only get him to stop shoving his hand inside you to compensate, you wouldn't be so uptight SCARFACE: *pause* wait…are you actually trying to treat me here? DOC: It wasn't my first idea but if it's the only way I can ultimately give you some peace and have fewer people hurt, I'll make it work. SCARFACE: *exaggerated wistful sigh* Maybe I can finally get a world without Dummy. A mafioso can dream. DOC: Um…erm…something like that. Anyway, I noticed that I didn't get my usual fee before the session, so I'm going to have to bill you for the balance. SCARFACE: *deadpan* Oh…Dummy takes care of that WESKER: I DO NOT DOC: WHAT? SCARFACE: I MEANT THE CHECK'S IN THE MAIL. Now get me outta here before he makes me talk about my mother. *fake sob* I really miss her. DOC: Pining? SCARFACE: No, oak. With emotions running high at REP over Remake 4 itself, will Neptune have a more enjoyable time? Will TheBatMan continue to applaud the changes from Capcom? Has Rombie burnt himself out on the game attempting his Platinum run and will this be the straw that breaks STARS TyranT's back? So strap yourselves in, activate your IRIS and get ready for the last tango in Spain for Luis. Our Separate Ways review starts now!

Hi all welcome to The Belfry week for this year's British Masters! For me one of the most anticipated events on the DP World Tour calendar. This week I am joined by Duncan Campbell from Golf Betting Club to discuss this week's event in Sutton Coldfield just outside of Birmingham! Welcome to Chapter Select Season Five! Logan Moore brings Max Roberts under Capcom's horror umbrella and guides him through this nightmarish franchise. Have over 25 years of innovation and reinvention turned this survival horror series into a husk of a corpse or kept gamers on the edge of their seats? Clear out your inventory. Turn off the lights. It's time for…Resident Evil! You can download a copy of this episode's transcript here. For the season's structure, Logan and I sat down and custom-tailored the order for this series. Given the nature of RE-makes, we wove in old and new together based off platform accessibility. Here is the order we have for Season 5: Episode 1 – Resident Evil (2002) is releasing on January 11, 2022. Episode 2 – Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2017) is releasing on January 25, 2023. Episode 3 – Resident Evil 0 (2002) is releasing February 8, 2023. Episode 4 – Resident Evil 2 Remake (2019) is releasing February 22, 2023 with special guest Ricky Frech. Episode 5 – Resident Evil 4 (2004) is releasing on March 8, 2023 with special guest Dustin Furman. Episode 6 – Resident Evil 3 Remake (2020) is releasing on March 22, 2022. Episode 7 – Resident Evil: Code Veronica (2000) is releasing on April 5, 2023. Episode 8 – Resident Evil Village (2021) is releasing on April 19, 2023 with special guest Michael Ruiz. Episode 9 – Resident Evil 5 (2009) is releasing on May 3, 2023. Episode 10 – Resident Evil 6 (2012) is releasing on May 17, 2023. Episode 11 – Resident Evil 4 Remake (2023) is releasing on May 31, 2023 with special guest Jerrad Wyche. I am fairly new to the Resident Evil franchise. I entered the fold with RE7 because of PSVR. When Village hit shelves, I snagged it thanks to expiring credits at Best Buy. I never went beyond dabbling with the series classics, although I have longed for the iconic chainsaw controller. In contrast, Logan is a long-time S.T.A.R.S agent, originally getting into the series all on the GameCube. He claims that Resident Evil is personally up there with Metal Gear Solid. All of the art this season was generated by the DALL-E 2 AI art generator. We felt there was something eerily ironic about a corporate AI whipping up art about a game series where an evil corporation creates zombie bioweapons. You know I'll be digging in deep to the how to in this season's Behind the Scenes post later this year. It's time for you to make a Jill Sandwich, put on your headphones, and pack up some green herbs for Season 5: Resident Evil! The first episode will be launching next Wednesday – January 11, 2023 – with new episodes following in a fortnightly manner. Subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts!

Coming hot off the heels of the Resident Evil movie reboot, attention now turns to the recently released Netflix adaptation of this popular franchise. Concerns were raised when this show was initially announced and then again when it was marketed as being a continuation of the games storyline up to RE Village anyway. Released last month what are the views on Neptune, [STARS] TyranT, Rombie and George Trevor now the dust has settled and all 8 hours have been consumed and digested? There is plenty to get our teeth into including the split storyline, the portrayals of legacy characters, the Wesker twins, as well as the return of the old (new) Umbrella. So buckle up as we try to flee through the Channel Tunnel is this review podcast. It's not all TV discussion however as we also have a look at the new trailer for the Shadows of Rose RE Village DLC.
What's that? Zombie apocalypse you say? That's no match for our hosts, Princess and Tessa, as they tackle Resident Evil this week. They talk zombie survival, the new RE canon, and how to tame a zombie crocodile. And if that's not enough, Princess sits down with Ella Balinska who plays Jade Wesker to talk all things gaming and horror content.

Zootopia fans rejoice! I mean -- REjoice! Kevin and Nick (of twitch.tv/makemonsters fame) suffered through all 8 episodes of Netflix's frustrating adaptation of RESIDENT EVIL. Long story short: it kind of works, except for all the times it doesn't, which is often. Very, very often. But, man, Lance Reddick really lands it as Wesker. And who doesn't love a CG licker?

Infinite Weekly is back with my predictions and theories about the brand new, upcoming, Resident Evil Netflix series! And of course we have to address the announcement of the Resident Evil 4 remake! In this brand new episode of the Infinite Lives and Games podcast I go solo mode into the two main reasons why I think the show is going to be another load of trash, why I think Wesker is alive in the show and in the actual games. Finally, we also address the remake of Resident Evil 4 and what I am excited about. With the horrible track record of writers and producers doing these movie adaptations of my beloved franchise I really have lost faith…especially after that last Resident Evil movie titled Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. We don't even have to mention the Resident Evil movies that came before that one because we all know how bad those were. It's all about the money for these people. And!!!!!! let's not pretend we are all not tired of the post apocalyptic zombie scenario! It's been out for far too long and it does not focus enough on the areas that matter the most like character development, human interactions and things that come with dealing with zombies! Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is the seventh live-action iteration of the storied video game franchise. Sadly, like its predecessors, it fails to live up to the legacy of the series. Yes, folks, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is yet another uninspired video game adaptation. But unlike the Paul W.S. Anderson saga, this at least sticks close to the source material. Raccoon City is a reboot, carrying no connection to the insipid six that came before it. In fact, it is essentially a narrative retelling of the first two games. In principle, that sounds like a good idea, but there's a reason there were two of them. This film can never find the right balance between the horrors of the Spencer Mansion and the panic-inducing labyrinth that is the titular city's police station. In effect, it shortchanges them both; and through its slavish devotion to the games, it also shoehorns in far too much—including the cringe-worthy dialogue that was a hallmark of the series' early years. Listen, I also hate W.S. Anderson's movies, but at least they made money. Raccoon City—certainly hindered by the ongoing pandemic—grossed just $41.9 million on a budget of $25 million. Critics had little appetite for it either. At 31% on Rotten Tomatoes with 84 reviews, it falls somewhere within the median of its predecessors. Not great. Anyway, sit back, have a tasty (and itchy?) Undead Party Crasher from Clown Shoes Beer, and don't trust Wesker! I, the Thunderous Wizard (@WriterTLK), Capt. 2002's Resident Evil directed by Paul W. S. Anderson caused a ripple effect amongst the gaming franchise's fanbase that divided the community seemingly in half. While some appreciate the attempt to expand the property beyond the video game consoles, others ridicule the film for what would come after it; a slew of near-lifeless, uninspired, high budget, schlocky sequels that left a bad taste in many a RE fan's mouth. That being said, there's still a lot of good in Anderson's first outing that needs to be reevaluated. So as the release of Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City draws ever near, we're doing just that. Come along with us as we discuss Nathan's love for Korn, which celebrity would most likely be the Wesker of real life, sentient blood, and a plethora of other insane topics all while joined by esteemed guest and Resident Evil guru Nick (better known as Neptune) from The Resident Evil Podcast!Resident Evil stars Milla Jovovich, Michelle Rodriguez, Eric Mabius, James Purefoy, and Martin Crewes.
