What's the difference between creative tension that births new possibilities and destructive polarization that tears everything apart? Recorded during the Libra full moon, this conversation examines how the same dualistic forces that allow the universe to express itself, positive and negative poles creating illumination, can become weapons when we forget we're part of a unified field. The discussion begins with a fundamental principle: the One expresses itself through dual aspects, like spirit and matter forming a continuum. Think of a light bulb, it requires both positive and negative poles to create illumination. That tension between opposites isn't a problem to solve, it Is the creative mechanism of existence itself. The challenge comes when we identify with only one pole and see the other as enemy, rather than partner. Using the metaphor of America as a bird with two wings, this conversation examines what happens when each wing thinks it IS the whole bird and tries to damage the other, which sees that the bird crashes and burns. Perhaps most relevant for our current political and social climate, the episode addresses how we've become addicted to hatred and violence, feeding the very polarization that's tearing communities and families apart. Drawing from Mother Teresa, Buddha, and Thomas Merton, the discussion explores how our thoughts literally emit energetic and chemical pollutants into the collective field. When enough people project hatred, it precipitates like rain—we create what's described as a "reign of hatred" that poisons the very ocean in which we all swim. The conversation offers a way forward through Libra's spiritual motto: "I choose the way that leads between the two great lines of force." This isn't about compromising principles or finding a mushy middle ground, but about walking what's called the "razor's edge path" and living with such integrity that there's no deviation between your inner truth and outer actions. It's an invitation to examine your own relationship with polarity and asking, "Are you using the creative tension of opposing forces to build something greater, or have you become so identified with one side that you've forgotten we're all fragments trying to find our way home to the One?" Welcome back to the Create Podcast. Just in time for the fall season, I am joined by Pam Grossman, a writer, curator, teacher, and practicing witch whose work beautifully bridges creativity, culture, and magic. Pam is the host of The Witch Wave podcast (called “the Terry Gross of witches” by Vulture), the author of Waking the Witch: Reflections on Women, Magic, and Power, and co-editor of Taschen's Witchcraft volume in the Library of Esoterica series. Welcome back to Black Hoodie Alchemy! This week my good friend, recurring guest and host of 'Lighting the Void' joins me, the great Joe Rupe! While we take our usual analytical eye to today's topic, we also kick back and have a bit of fun as we talk about a topic that is really all about having fun: video games! From the art of programming, to the imaginative lore, the human psychological pros and cons, all the way to the esoteric philosophical implications -- we've got you covered in this episode! Are video games something we can become addicted to and waste time with? Yep. Are they also a fascinating art form that does something no other art can do? Yep. Are there unique speculative implications with video games, such as simulation-theory, the collective consciousness at work, and the overall Hermetic nature of the cosmos? Yep!And on top of all that, we also just about some great games as well. We hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed chatting. Wesley Roth (Dark Holler Studios) returns to Nephilim Death Squad with behind-the-scenes film reports from The Meadow Project — strange oversized prints, shadow overlays on footage, and an esoteric detour into symbolism that we connect to ancient monuments like the Great Pyramid of Giza. Wesley explains six days in the field, the tense “paranormal gaslighting” dynamics that followed, and why certain symbols and spirals in the footage made him think of pyramidal architecture and ritual space. Welcome back to Black Hoodie Alchemy, folks! My head was jumbled, my body was in a lot of pain, and I wasn't really sure what my next move was after this near-death experience at the beginning of the year -- so I took a bit of a longer, unexpected, and unannounced break. Some of it was out of frustration, a lot of it was out of total exhaustion, and even more of it was rooted in a level of surrender and acceptance. Some real serenity prayer sort of stuff on a very Jungian level, but it was all worth it. I'm feeling pretty damn solid now. Joe Rupe, host of Lighting the Void helps me get into all this, unpacking some of his mental health experiences and some of my recent ones, along with analyzing mental in the fringe spiritual, new age, conspiracy theory and fortean communities. People are always getting into these head-spaces and schools-of-thought for one reason or another, yet so many of them fail to ask themselves what these ideas and beliefs do for them on a daily practical level. People analyzing "real" alien species on internet forums, reading the "latest leaks" from Q, or trying to hex their neighbors are likely not considering the fundamental idea: Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. Because of this, their mental health usually suffers on a noticeable level. But beyond this, we get deeper into Jungian psychology and the relationship between our inner child and the archetypes of the Great Mother and Father, i.e. the Yin and Yang, et cetera. It's a heavy episode but in many ways it's a celebratory return with great music, some fun shout outs and an awesome guest! Thanks for tuning in, folks -- there's a lot more to come. My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Ellis Shuman, author of the book Rakiya - Stories of Bulgaria. Ellis is an American-born Israeli author, travel writer, and book reviewer. His writing has appeared in The Jerusalem Post, The Times of Israel, World Literature Today, and The Huffington Post. His short fiction has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize, and has appeared in Isele Magazine, Vagabond, The Write Launch, Esoterica, Jewish Literary Journal, San Antonio Review, and other literary publications. He is the author of The Virtual Kibbutz, Valley of Thracians, The Burgas Affair, and Rakiya – Stories of Bulgaria. In my book review, I stated Rakiya - Stories of Bulgaria is a collection of cultural short stories set in Bulgaria. In these short stories we follow such characters as pickpocketing Roma, a WWII veteran, refugees, authors, makers of rakiya, and hunters - all while learning about the rich history of the area. As someone who knows little about the Bulgarian culture or the history, I was enchanted by the stories. I was also intrigued by the foods, drinks, mountains, and churches. By the time I was finished with the collection, I wondered if a trip to Bulgaria might be in order! As an author, I was fascinated with how the author weaved these tales into a cohesive whole - and loved how a character from one story would inevitably end up in another. Despite being a series of short stories, it reads far more like a novel, with Bulgaria as the main character. It's a great read. Shakespeare is a giant hole in my knowledge base. But I do know the occult or paranormal played center stage in many of his works. But that's about where it ends for me. So, a call to experts was needed. And like the fires of Rohan, they were answered. Enter frequent guest (and friend) Rev. Dr. David Parry and former thespian and current professional wrestler, Aron Haddad Stephens. Not only do they cover Shalespeare, but they cover pretty much everything. From esoteric schools of thought to philosophy, it's tackled from the lenses of the Elizabethan period and the modern periods. There are some history lessons along the way. Some working definitions. And certain philosophies oft identified with certain names or groups. Any useful substance I added is aided by luck. And of course I added a Dr. D David Schultz joke in. This winter solstice, we invite you to experience something extraordinary - a magical Christmas story that transcends traditional religious boundaries and speaks to the universal longing for light within us all. In this special episode of Musings from the Mount, Michael Lindfield shares "The Promise of Light," a remarkable tale that came to him through an angelic presence at Scotland's Findhorn Community in 1985. As the longest night of the year embraces us, Michael's story weaves together themes of cosmic music, inner awakening, and the eternal promise of light that lives within every human heart. Through the eyes of two children visited by an angel on Christmas Eve, we discover how the Christmas story is part of a greater symphony being composed across the cosmos - one in which we all play a vital part. This isn't just another Christmas story - it's an invitation to understand the deeper meaning behind all spiritual traditions that celebrate the return of light. Whether you're celebrating Christmas, Solstice, Hanukkah, or simply seeking meaning in the darkness of winter, this episode offers a fresh perspective on the universal human experience of discovering our inner light. Join Michael Lindfield and Joseph Carenza for this heartwarming episode that reminds us that we are all carriers of divine light, each of us a Christmas story waiting to be told through how we choose to live our lives.

For this week's Haunting Season-themed Local Legends episode, Martin gathers round the Three Ravens campfire with writer, paranormal psychologist, and all-round super-cool spooky person Evelyn Hollow. It's likely you will have already heard of Evelyn, who is probably most famous for her work on Uncanny and various Danny Robins-hosted series such as The Battersea Poltergeist and The Witch Farm. You might have also seen her on the Warner Bros TV shows Spooked Scotland and Spooked Ireland which stream on Discovery Channel+. And there's perhaps a prevailing perception of her as "That Ghost Lady from The Programmes" but, as this interview goes to demonstrate, there's a heck of a lot more to Evelyn than such a persona might imply. She holds a Master of Research degree in Paranormal Psychology, is a former psychology lecturer, is tremendously nerdy about things you might not expect - not just maths but quantum physics, for example - and she has had a super-interesting career: In 2015 she was the recipient of the Lonely Planet Travel Writing Scholarship, she was a resident author at Esoterica for several years, the occult columnist for Corvid Culture, and has written numerous articles for Haunted magazine. She has taught writing classes at all sorts of places too, from universities to arts festivals, and her first book, The Atlas of Paranormal Places, was published in September. And the above is just the tip of the iceberg really. In fact, Evelyn's role on Uncanny, as the representative of 'Team Believer,' belies a wealth of hard work, rigorous research, and an awful lot of hard science. As such, settle in for a chat which folds in all sorts of fascinating concepts, from the history of Planck's Constant and the fiercely brilliant fiction of writers like Shirley Jackson to the awesomeness of dictionaries and the reality of what's actually involved in being a parapsychologist. Which, as Evelyn explains, is not what many people think it is...To learn more about Evelyn do visit her website at https://evelynhollow.com/, we hope you enjoy the episode, and we'll be back on Monday with our final trio of original ghost stories for Haunting Season 2024!The Three Ravens is an English Myth and Folklore podcast hosted by award-winning writers Martin Vaux and Eleanor Conlon.Released on Mondays, each weekly episode focuses on one of England's 39 historic counties, exploring the history, folklore and traditions of the area, from ghosts and mermaids to mythical monsters, half-forgotten heroes, bloody legends, and much, much more. Then, and most importantly, the pair take turns to tell a new version of an ancient story from that county - all before discussing what that tale might mean, where it might have come from, and the truths it reveals about England's hidden past...Bonus Episodes are released on Thursdays (Magic and Medicines about folk remedies and arcane spells, Three Ravens Bestiary about cryptids and mythical creatures, Dying Arts about endangered heritage crafts, and Something Wicked about folkloric true crime from across history) plus Local Legends episodes on Saturdays - interviews with acclaimed authors, folklorists, podcasters and historians with unique perspectives on that week's county. With a range of exclusive content on Patreon, too, including audio ghost tours, the Three Ravens Newsletter, and monthly Three Ravens Film Club episodes about folk horror films from across the decades, why not join us around the campfire and listen in?Learn more at www.threeravenspodcast.com, join our Patreon at www.patreon.com/threeravenspodcast, and find links to our social media channels here: https://linktr.ee/threeravenspodcast Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. Learn about the fascinating connection between François Rabelais' Gargantua and Aleister Crowley's Thelema. In Gargantua, Rabelais introduces the Abbey of Thélème, a utopian society governed by the motto 'Fay ce que vouldras' ('Do what you will'). This principle would later inspire Crowley's central Thelemic tenet, 'Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.' Learn how Rabelais' Renaissance humanism, satire, and vision of personal freedom profoundly influenced Crowley's esoteric philosophy, bridging the gap between literature and occult spirituality. What do Hegel, Marx, and esoteric traditions have in common? Join us for an enlightening episode featuring Dr. Justin Sledge from the Esoterica channel as we explore this fascinating intersection. Dr. Sledge shares his insights into the influence of figures like Hegel and Marx on political theology and esoteric traditions, while also addressing Adorno's critique and the resurgence of conspiracies about Marxism. We'll uncover Dr. Sledge's motivations for his unique content on esoteric Marxism and Hegelianism, and discuss the intriguing influence of Hermeticism on Hegel, alongside Marx's reluctance to speculate about the future. From graduate school struggles to dissertation triumphs, we delve into the unresolved tensions in Marxist metaethics and their catastrophic implications for later Marxist implementations. Hear about my personal experiences grappling with the complexities of Marx's moral theory and how Victorian virtue ethics played a significant role in shaping his thoughts. We'll also challenge the tendency to impose rigid orthodoxies on thinkers like Marx, illustrating the flexibility and adaptability of Marxist theory through historical examples. In our final segments, we broaden the scope to examine class analysis, early Christianity, and the profound impact of esotericism on modernity. By applying class analysis to historical figures and movements, we gain fresh perspectives on events and ideologies. Dr. Sledge's unique qualifications provide an unparalleled view into the overlooked dimensions of mystical experiences on rationalist philosophy, urging a more nuanced understanding of philosophical development and historical materialism.
