Few developers have had as long and prolific a career as our guest, Graeme Bayless. From working on mainframes, to selling Kaypros, to playtesting Accolade's launch titles, to producing games for SSI, Sega Technical Institute, Hyperbole Studios, Dynamix, EA, Eidos, and NetherRealm Studios. In Part 4, we talk about the decade that Graeme spent in the wilderness of the game's industry, during which he worked on titles such as Tomb Raider Legend and Anniversary at Crystal Dynamics, tried to salvage projects like Enslaved, Dead to Rights Retribution and Splatterhouse at Namco, returned to sports titles at 2K Games before getting the chance to start his own studio, Fierce Wombat. Graeme gives us amazing insights into the life of a game dev like few others can or would. Show Notes On this week's podcast, Dan and Kris tackle the October 10 20 30 40, and what a month it was. Once again, the PlayStation 2 has a number of massive hits on its hands, but the 16-bit console war heated up quite a bit as well. What platform had the best October? Let's find out! At the top of the show, Dan gets more good news about his treatments, but is consistently distracted throughout the night thanks to the Yankees in the World Series. He also played the new Rocky Horror game, Splatterhouse, and ate some seriously sub-par grapes. Meanwhile, Kris continued to enjoy Zelda and tolerate Hatch Tales, while rekindling his love for the Game Boy Color classic Super Mario Bros. Deluxe. Finally, in Week Old News, Dan and Kris try their hand at color commentary as the Yankees went into extra innings, the NSO playtest isn't what anyone expected (and leaks almost immediately), Ubisoft continues to insist Beyond Good & Evil is going to happen, Aero the Acrobat gets physical for some reason, and more! Its the return of our all-spooky spectacular as Yer Boys talk about some of the frightful and delightful things they saw during the month of October. Its a thrilling episode featuring: The existential dread of INSIDE OUT 2! Death and romance in LISA FRANKENSTEIN! Whimsey and epic rap battles of LEPRECHAUN IN THE HOOD! Splatterhouse fantasy with THE TERRIFIER! Plus: BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE! AGATHA ALL ALONG! JENNIFER'S BODY! And so much more!#Legions #SpookshowSpectacular #WBWPodcast
Show Notes On this week's podcast, we finally have a genuinely great 10 20 30 40 on our hands. The 10 is good, teh 30 is great, the 40 is, well, pretty abysmal. But the 20? Holy cow. We're talking Katamari Damacy, Donkey Konga, Fable, Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green, Burnout 3, and a whole heck of a lot more. It's been a rough segment to get through this year, but man, September was absolutely killer in decades past! At the top of the show, Kris broke his fridge with a lousy water filter, and was so busy working on his latest Mario history video he didn't have time for any video games. Not even Zelda! Profound sadness. Dan, on the other hand, finished up Still Wakes the Deep, and might actually be done with Marvel Snap. Will the new Pokemon mobile card game be able to fill the gap? Time will tell! Finally, in Week Old News, Splatterhouse comes to Sega Genesis, and Metroid comes to the Nintendo 64, both courtesy of the excellent homebrew communities out there doing the lord's work. Plus, lost Garfield Sega Channel footage resurfaces, F-Zero Satelliview content finds new life through NSO, Tekken and KFC don't get along, hippos are cool, and more. Enjoy! Also, Jeff shares his passion for horror & slasher movies and tells the horrid tale of a cursed Super NES cartridge that consumes all who dare to play it… (Special thanks to Joe/Electrichead for the eerily appropriate epilogue)

Instagram: @Drunk_arcade_podcast In over two hundred episodes, this might just be the weirdest game we've ever covered. But "weird" doesn't always mean "bad". I love indie games for their creativity and off-the-wall ideas, and this game plays like an indie game from 1993. And it was made by EA of all companies. It's Haunting Starring Polterguy! You control this dead punk skater looking dude, and go from house to house terrorizing a family of four. It's hilarious, weird, and I like it. RTG Supporter Hawgzilla sponsored this episode, and it was great chatting with him and finding out why he has such an odd attachment to such an odd game. And then I lay into Polterguy and explain why I think this really is a hidden gem on the Genesis, albeit maybe one without a lot of replay value. And before we scare some kids, I slap together another edition of the 'Remember The Game? Infamous Intro'! This week, we talk about new console generations, and if console developers give up on old consoles too quickly? I find out what Polybius is (spoiler: it's terrifying). And does a Steam Deck make you a PC Master Racer?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 terrifying Genesis games: Michael Jackson's Moonwalker, Splatterhouse 2, and Ecco The Dolphin.

Halloween ya es tradición y que nosotros le dediquemos un programa, pues también. En esta ocasión nos vamos al mundo de los videojuegos y a como el terror ha formado (y forma) parte importante de esta industria como uno de los géneros que más vende. Empezando por los antediluvianos títulos como Haunted House o Nosferatu the vampyre... pasando por Alone in the Dark o Splatterhouse... y llegando a Dead Space o Little Nightmare.

Here's the deal.. Splatterhouse is cool. There's no way around that. It's a cool game with a gory overarching theme. So if you're interested in hearing about a cool game where you can waste gruesome creatures with a two-by-four or meat cleaver, then yeah.. tune in. If not, then why are you reading this? You know we talk about Splatterhouse. It's right there in the title. You have no one to blame but yourself for winding up here, reading this. linktr.ee/CatchingUpOnCinema This June is “VHS Cover Art” month at Catching Up On Cinema! Every week we'll be reviewing films with incredible cover art from the VHS era. First up this month, Trevor and Kyle take a look at Douglas McKeown's, The Deadly Spawn (1983)! Alternatively known as “Return of the Aliens: The Deadly Spawn,” and “The Return of the Alien's Deadly Spawn,” the cover art for The Deadly Spawn stands out as one of the more memorable video store discoveries of Trevor's youth. Of particular note on the cover, is the prominently featured Deadly Spawn monster (created by John Dods), which while rendered via paint on the cover, proves to be every bit as impressive puppet in the actual film. While far from an essential film, even for horror afficionados, the goopy and toothy visage of The Deadly Spawn has proven to have some legs in pop culture, at one point even being featured as one of the bosses in the Splatterhouse series of video games. A pleasantly straightforward small town alien invasion film, The Deadly Spawn proudly bears it's influences on it's sleeves, even going so far as to directly reference numerous B-movie classics. Though structured very similarly to a typical B-movie, the film is by no means a complete paint by numbers affair, offering several surprises in regards to who among the cast of players find themselves caught in the monster's maw. Occasionally dull, and unfortunately not possessed of dialogue or characterizations that are eccentric or off-kilter to provide “good-bad” entertainment, the charm in viewing The Deadly Spawn springs entirely from it's creature and gore effects, all of which elevate the production and allow it (in fits and spurts) to punch significantly above the weight of it's minuscule budget. We're all business this episode. Well... until the listener questions push us off the rails, but that's your fault. You did that. We dive straight into the rankings of six more games from Issue 3 (1992), running the rule over Steel Talons, Batman, Alien 3, Taz-Mania, Thunder Force IV and Splatterhouse 2. Once that's out of our system, we jump into a lovely listener question about what games we'd want to relive with our kiddywinks, and a four-year-old makes up some names for everyone. Also, Tim sees owls in the road. Sam doesn't. We have a Patreon now, by the way! We continue with part two of our 90s Video Game Mascot Tier List, and it is somehow dumber than the first one. his week on the Classicl337 podcast the two talk about Home Sweet Home Alone and enjoyed it and think the criticism is unfair – this being the sixth Home Alone movie. Kevin also speak about Ghostbusters: Afterlife and may or may not have cried during the movie (he did). The two then go over some new releases and news which include: Chrono Cross Remastered Coming, Sony has an Xbox Game Pass competitor coming to PS4 and PS5, new report says, Ed Findlay fixes Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles For the NES and Celebrate 20 years of Xbox with over 70 new Backward Compatible Games (still no Splatterhouse). Scott also finally jumped into the basement with The Binding of Isaac: Repentance and is loving it and is swinging into action with Spider-Man for PlayStation 4. Kevin, meanwhile, knew that busting made him feel good so he completed Ghostbusters: The Game: Remastered for the Nintendo Switch, completed Metroid: Dread in 10 hours (mean while this guy did it in an hour and a half) and is having a bit of an odd time with Oddworld: Soulstorm. OoooOOOOooOOooo~ It's almost Halloween! In honor of the scariest of holidays, we tackle Frictional Games' landmark horror title Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Developed by a small team that had previously created the Penumbra series, Amnesia: The Dark Descent released in 2010 arguably creating the biggest waves in the waning horror genre since the release of the original Resident Evil. It featured Daniel, an amnesiac who awakens in a gloomy castle with a note from his past self urging him to make his way to the heart of the castle complex while avoiding a malevolent entity bent on his destruction. It possessed no combat mechanics, instead purposefully disempowering players, encouraging them to run and hide from the various dangers throughout Castle Brennenburg. Outro music: Splatterhouse 3 'Call of the Mask' by Beckett007 (http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR01772) You can follow the show on Twitter: @BestGamesPeriod Or download the podcast from Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/thebestgamesperiod Don't forget to sign up for Extra Life to help sick and injured kids in hospitals around the US and Canada by playing games!
