We are cruising towards Ep 100 and it would be just so darn awesome to reach 10,000 views on YT by that time. We have close to 14.5k combined on others which means we are nearing 25k overall! Thank you to every single one of you who listens and spreads the word. Keep liking, subscribing and sharing. I will have some other news coming soon. Now speaking of YT… The Episode cover images that I’ve scoured the internet for and chosen for each and every episode finally started appearing on YT about 3 months ago. Now, for the last 3 weeks, it returned to what is my standard YT image backdrop. Well, that should be corrected once again this week, but I won’t know until it uploads. The VoS has offered up a DBG from July 16th, 1994 aptly titled: “My Desperate Plea for Love.” Darrell Gould joins Norm and I with some pre-game chatter. A stealthy Norm begins the conversation…He asks me a question about my weekend away at Hampton Beach, NH where, at a club called The Electric Wave, I saw a beautiful young lass whom I was smitten with. It’s quite the pathetic tale of squandered chances and lost love. Amy was the name of the girl I was taken with. I was weak in the knees and couldn’t get up the nerve to talk to her. I did however get some details from her friend Laurie. Finally, at the end of the night, I said to her that I thought she was incredibly beautiful. I won’t give you any further details but just say that the slobbering, plaintive, tear-soaked plea continues until it sickens us all. Thankfully, Norm goes to a commercial where we only get to briefly hear John Wall from Wall’s Lincoln Mercury before it fades out. Ok, it’s game time! Our Players: The breathy Arlene from Philadelphia Rick in State College PA Betty from S Portland ME The stuffy but still adorable Kristen from Dorchester I’m on the phone Emilio Marotta producing and playing in studio and spending his penultimate night with us as he is heading off to San Diego CA. He describes a temporary job he’s lined up in Tijuana where he predicts his Lawrence Welk medley will be a big hit. Jack Harte in traffic who’s insincere greeting prompts Norm to do an impression of his uncle. Wet, stubby cigar hanging from his lips… The Birthdays: Bess Meyerson NEXT COULD POSSIBLY BE THE LONGEST TIME SPENT ON A SINGLE BIRTHDAY: Orville Redenbacher. The impressions, the jokes, the puns, the losing of one’s mind and the moaning and groaning throughout is FUNtastic. Ginger Rogers who won an Oscar for ‘Kitty Foyle.’ Oh yes, the foolishness carries on with this one. The very sharp, Reuben Blades Before we skip to Monday the 18th here’s the list of leftovers that remained on the birthday cake plate: Desmond Decker Raine Pryor Barnard Hughes Jim Rathman Barry Sanders Dick Thornberg Margaret Court Stewart Copeland And Pincus Zuckerman Barbara Stanwyck, Mary Baker Eddy and Theodore Vail were also born on the 17th but were dead. Monday, 7/18 Red Skelton Harriet Nelson We end quickly as news is fast approaching! So many other highlights: Norm declares may resign from shtick. Egotistical hosts who are afraid to say there are open lines but not Norm. He has no qualms about begging. Norm’s Bob Raleigh impression, “Nothing wrong with that.” Kristen’s chafed and sore stuffy nose that was an adorable shade of red that matched nicely with her teary, swollen eyes.

The year is 1941 and the nominees are: 1. Ginger Rogers - Kitty Foyle 2. Bette Davis - The Letter 3. Katharine Hepburn - The Philadelphia Story 4. Martha Scott - Our Town 5. Joan Fontaine - Rebecca In 1941 Ginger Rogers won her first and only Oscar for Kitty Foyle. Up to that point in her career she was known as a musical/rom-com actress and of course dance partner to Fred Astaire. We've discussed these types of wins before with Reese Witherspoon and Sandra Bullock. This was a very stacked year. You had Bette Davis at the top of her game in The Letter. Katharine Hepburn in the famous rom-com ‘The Philadelphia Story.' Joan Fontaine (sister to Olivia De Havilland) for Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca (available on YouTube I highly recommend the watch). Martha Scott for Our Town (also on YouTube). Do yourself a favour and look up these classics ( *cough* minus Our Town *cough*)! Academy Award was a CBS radio anthology series that presented 30-minute adaptations of plays, novels or films. The program's title is listed in one source as Academy Award Theater. Rather than adaptations of Oscar-winning films, as the title implied, the series offered "Hollywood's finest, the great picture plays, the great actors and actresses, techniques and skills, chosen from the honor roll of those who have won or been nominated for the famous golden Oscar of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences."

Welcome back once again for another episode from the wacky Nerds. This week we review the speculation of the latest offering from Marvel. Discuss issues confronting small game developers and some proposed solutions, and we also have a horny dinosaur. Sound exciting, it is, so strap in and come along for the ride. So, Marvel have announced the release of a new hero, and it is a Chinese character and speculation has been rife on who it is going to be. There are suggestions of a couple of Chinese heritage actors and everyone seems to be loving it. Even Buck is sounding kind of impressed. There are concerns about the back story of this character, but the hippies will certainly find something to complain about. Next we have the information about the struggles faced by small game developers trying to generate traction in today’s market place. Independent game developers are producing some interesting content back due to the market place they struggle to survive and remain in the market place. We also ask our resident developer about his experiences and how he dealt with them. Then we take a moment to learn about a horny dinosaur from China. Oops, sorry, a horned dinosaur from China, called the Auroraceratops, cousin of the Triceratops. Perfect for the individual in the market for a pet that is a little bit different. This beautiful little creature is adorable and a herbivore, with currently eighty examples having been found. We talk about the different possibilities of how it looks and found examples that are very different, including examples that have feathers. This will be followed by the usual discussions of games we are playing, shout outs, remembrances, birthdays, and events of interest. We have lots of fun and laughter while recording this episode, and we hope you have just as much fun listening to it. She is known for her starring role in Kitty Foyle, but is best remembered for performing in RKO's musical films (partnered with Fred Astaire) on stage, radio and television, throughout much of the 20th century. Rogers had her first successful film role as a supporting actress in 42nd Street. Throughout the 1930s, Rogers made nine films with Astaire, among which were some of her biggest successes, such as Swing Time and Top Hat. After two commercial failures with Astaire, Rogers began to branch out into dramatic films and comedies. Her acting was well received by critics and audiences, and she became one of the biggest box-office draws of the 1940s. Her performance in Kitty Foyle (1940) won her the Academy Award for Best Actress. Rogers remained successful throughout the 1940s and at one point was Hollywood's highest-paid actress, but her popularity had peaked by the end of the decade. Academy Award Theater - The list of films and actors on Academy Award Theater is very impressive. Bette Davis begins the series in Jezebel, with Ginger Rogers following in Kitty Foyle, and then Paul Muni in The Life of Louis Pasteur. The Informer had to have Victor Mclaglen, and the Maltese Falcon, Humphrey Bogart, Sidney Greenstreet (this movie was his first major motion picutre role) plus Mary Astor for the hat trick. Suspicion starred Cary Grant with Ann Todd doing the Joan Fontaine role, Ronald Coleman in Lost Horizon, and Joan Fontaine and John Lund were in Portrait of Jenny. How Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Pinocchio were done is something to hear! THIS EPISODE: Brief Encounter (1946) is director David Lean's brilliantly-crafted, classic British masterpiece. It is one of the greatest romantic tearjerkers/weepers of all time, with a very downbeat ending. Lean's film is a simple but realistically-honest, unsentimental, self-told social melodrama of the quiet desperation involved in an illicit, extra-marital love affair between two married, middle-class individuals over seven weekly meetings, mostly against the backdrop of a railway station. The romantic couple includes a wife/mother looking for escape from her humdrum life and sterile marriage, and a dashing doctor. tale of The screenplay was adapted and based on playwright Noel Coward's 1935 short one-act (half-hour) stage play Still Life. It was expanded from five short scenes in a train station (the refreshment tea room of Milford Junction Station) to include action in other settings (the married woman's house, the apartment of the married man's friend, restaurants, parks, train compartments, shops, a car, a boating lake and at the cinema), although the film still maintains chaste minimalism.

John Dunning in his book,"On the Air, The Encyclopedia of Old Time Radio,"tells us why such a fine production lasted less than a year: "The House of Squibb, a drug firm, footed a stiff bill: up to $5,000 for the stars and $1,600 a week to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for use of the title.
