Spiritual maturity is reflected in how quickly we obey God's commands. In this episode, we break down Jesus' call to love and pray for our enemies, and challenge ourselves to act immediately—without hesitation—when God speaks. You Got This, Ryan
"You don't love someone for their looks, or their clothes, or for their fancy car, but because they sing a song only you can hear." (Oscar Wilde) Life teaches us how to love and how to pray.

Apologies for the not-so-awesome audio as Pat's mic conked out JUST as the recording began. Will have it fixed up for next episode! The fellas talk almost exclusively about The Acolyte and break down the good and the ugly, cuz there wasn't a ton of bad in there! Parenting young adults is no joke. We have all of the same love for them and yet little control. We watch them make decisions and wonder where we fit in their lives these days. We invited author and mom Mary Demuth to the show to discuss challenges parents face when their children become adults. Mary reminds us that parenting is an ongoing journey, and parents still have a mission once their children leave home. Mary provides practical advice on how to love, listen, and pray for adult children, and how important it is for a parent to be authentic and vulnerable in sharing their stories as a way of helping their children transition to adulthood. Mary emphasizes the importance of being an active listener in maintaining a strong relationship with the children while setting boundaries and practicing independence. This can be a lonely time for parents and we want to face these challenges together! Find Mary Mary's book- Love, Pray, Listen: Parenting Your Wayward Adult Kids with Joy Mary's website and Instagram What you heard on the show Mary's 52 weekly prayer pdf Romans 12:1-2: Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Isaiah 41:10: So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Questions to help you Rise What is your mission as you parent right now? How are you being authentic and vulnerable as you share your own stories with others? How can you better participate in active listening with your adult children Are your prayers focusing on expressing love and support, or are they attempts at controlling your kids? How can you pray towards God's heart for them this week?

Keller says that we cannot grow unless we are in the soil of encouragement. And he offers some warnings aboutencouragement. We cannot surround ourselves with people that are so cowardly that they just affirm us, nor with people who are so impatient that they hand out advice too quickly. While some among us have been given the gift of encouragement, most of us have to work at it. We need to learn to take our tenderness and mold it into useful directness. Or we need to offer our impatient desire to just get things done to the Lord so that he can mold it into something peaceful and useful in the Kingdom. Deacon Cindy Hamilton concludes this Acts series with a message from Acts 11.
Do you feel crushed by the choices of one or more of your adult children? Are you feeling guilty, wondering what you did wrong? Mary DeMuth says that “your children’s choices do not end your life; they begin a new phase of it.” Ken and Deb talk to guest Mary DeMuth about this new phase, how to best navigate our heartache, connect with our adult children, and trust the Lord with their futures.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Sunday, February 26, 2023. 1 Samuel 12:23 | "Ceasing to Pray." Preached to Heritage Bible Chapel in Princeton, MA. This is the second sermon in a church-wide ministry focus series: "Love. Pray. Go."
If someone was going to ask you what your best parenting advice was, what would you say? Maybe you would talk about being intentional with the time you have with your kids. Perhaps you would talk about some of the traditions you did in your home. For me, I would talk about empathy and what a gift it is for our kids. Well you are in for such a treat because this week on the podcast I have Mary DeMuth and she is going to give her parenting advice and wisdom that she wants to pass along to us parents. Her book is called *Love, Pray, Listen which is such great parenting advice. Some of my favorite things that she shares this week on the podcast is settling our identity and where do we find our worth: is it in our role of parenting or is it because we are a child of God? I just love the wisdom she brings. She also talks about surrender and how important that is in our parenting and the gift of empathy which is one of my favorite things to talk about. She also has some great wisdom for parents of adult kids as well as those in the teenage years getting ready to launch a child. You are going to love all the truth she shares on this episode! Also, I am so excited for someone to win a copy of Mary's book: *Love, Pray, Listen. Today we reflect on the third spiritual practice in the Way of Love: Pray - what does it mean to be in conversation with God?

Christopher Love was a puritan who lived during the English Civil War. He would be executed at the end of this civil war and only lived to be 33 years old. Despite that, he lived a life that impacted the world with his passion for Jesus Christ. This sermon, “Pray With Violent Zeal,”discusses the importance of passionate prayer before our God. As a man who lived through and fought against many obstacles, Love knew the importance of a life centered on prayer. Special thanks to Joshua Cook for reading this sermon. Joshua Cook is husband to Janelle and father of 2 boys under 3. Joshua and Janelle live in southern New Mexico and are members of Coram Deo Community Church, a group of transformed disciples who live before the face of God for the glory of Christ and the good of the city. Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to jump on a plane (by yourself), travel to the other side of the world and climb a mountain? So many of us have that desire to throw caution to the wind but we never do it because we're afraid. We hide that fear behind one excuse or another. I remember having a chat with Marilyn before she headed on this trip. We laughed and laughed and laughed about the possibilities. Go on. Grab yourself a tea, or maybe even a mojito, lie back and enjoy. Imagine yourself doing it too.
