Tune in to learn about REAL's work to hold the city accountable for implementing Metro Council's Resolution that lays out an immediate goal of 100% renewable electricity for city government operations by 2030, or about 100M kwh, $12M/year, or 84MW. We discuss ways the city can achieve this goal, some obstacles in the way, and what role LG&E might play in all of this. We'll also give you a sneak preview of REAL's upcoming quarterly event this week: REAL Good News: A Solar Farm for Louisville? Wednesday, Jan. 11th, 7:00-8:30pm, on Zoom A solar power installation in Louisville could go a long way to meeting the city's renewable energy goal. A virtual event on Wednesday will explore how that could become a reality as “REAL Good News” holds its ninth in a series of quarterly public Zoom meetings aimed at making sure Louisville implements its green energy goals. In 2020 the Metro Council passed a resolution to move the city's operations to 100% clean renewable electricity by 2030. That resolution also sets a goal of 100% clean energy for the entire Louisville community by 2040. Wednesday's event will feature a description of a solar project that's underway in Hart County, and the steps required to build a similar project in Louisville. Speakers will include Rob Kalbouss, project manager for the Thoroughbred Solar Installation in Hart County, and Julie Donna, climate justice organizer with Kentuckians for the Commonwealth. Music by Louisville musician and activist John Gage will open and close the event. People attending will also learn about how to attend Metro Council meetings to speak in favor of implementing Louisville's clean energy resolution. The three sponsoring organizations are 100%REAL, Kentucky Interfaith Power and Light, and the Christian Action group of St. Paul United Methodist Church. Rachel Hawkins' 2020 release of “The Wife Upstairs” was a huge hit. The contemporary thriller inspired by “Jane Eyre” was the first release outside of the YA genre and showed she can craft a page-turner for a variety of audiences. Rachel talks with Olivia about “Reckless Girls” (published January 2022) that tracks Lux and her boyfriend Nico as they sail off from Hawaii in search of Meroe Island, a remote location with a dark, menacing history with other twenty-somethings in search of adventure and packed with secrets. Rachel talks about her recent success under the pseudonym Erin Sterling, choosing a new name, her love of literature, and her next thriller in the works. In a special Moment with Margaret, Margaret Stewart recommends a 2010 book with a nautical theme, “Bloody Jack” by L.A. Meyer, and explains why she has no interest in slowing down her audio speed.

As organizations grow, they tend to think in terms of processes and data, and although those elements are vital to scale, teams sometimes lose sight of the why. Key to scaling is building an infrastructure that supports a company’s core mission. In our final Season 2 episode of the DesignBetter.Co Podcast, Facebook Vice President of Product Design Margaret Gould Stewart talks with Aarron and Eli about how storytelling, open communication, and keeping the focus on the customer help the company's design team scale. “The most important thing you can do is have a story around what you're doing, for whom, and why.” If you enjoy this episode, we hope you’ll leave a review on iTunes or Google Play to help others members of the design community discover the podcast. Bio Margaret is a seasoned UX executive with over 15 years experience leading design and research teams, including in her current role as Vice President of Product Design at Facebook.
