The week-long festival had already seen a classical concert, tango classes, a puppet show and a series of exciting children's workshops and events. The Drive-In screening of 'E.T.' was a new feature on the Festival programme  That was Fatman Scoop / Crooklyn Clan with Be Faithful – the biggest song on this day in 2003 Onto music news on this day In 2005 The white suit worn by John Lennon on the cover of the Beatles' Abbey Road album sold for $118,000 (£66,385) at an auction in Las Vegas. And an Austin Princess hearse driven by the late star in the documentary Imagine sold for $150,000 (£84,388). A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the items went to Amnesty International. 2007 22-year-old X Factor winner singer Leona Lewis helped boost UK online music downloads to a record 1.7 million in one week making it the biggest week ever for download sales. Lewis sold more than 106,000 downloads of her track ‘Bleeding Love.' And finally celebrity birthdays on this day – guitarist Johnny Marr was born in the UK in 1963 and singer Vanilla Ice was born in America on this day in 1967 and this is one of his songs. People become astronomers for many reasons: They’re interested in the workings of the stars, or the quest to find life in the universe, or the fate of the universe itself. Geoffrey Burbidge joked that he became an astronomer because he married one. He and his wife, Margaret, were astronomy’s power couple. And they co-authored one of the most important studies of the 20th century. Burbidge was born 100 years ago today, in the English village of Chipping Norton. He first studied history, but switched to physics. After earning his undergraduate degree, shortly after World War II, he developed bombs for a while. Back in academia, he married Margaret, and they hopped around England and the United States over the next few decades. Burbidge contributed to many areas of astronomy theory. But he’s best known for a single paper, known as B-squared-F-H for the names of its authors – the two Burbidges, William Fowler, and Fred Hoyle. In it, they explained how stars forge most of the elements in the universe. Many elements are created in a star’s core during its long life; others, in the violent deaths of stars. Some of the elements are expelled into space, where they can be incorporated into new stars. The newer generations make even more elements – eventually creating the chemistry we see in the universe today. So the paper showed that we’re all made of “starstuff” – elements created in the stars. Bassaleikarinn Ingibjörg Turchi hefur komið fram með mörgum af ástsælustu listamönnum þjóðarinnar, svo sem Emilíönu Torrini, Bubba Morthens, Stuðmönnum og Teiti Magnússyni. Hún hefur einnig samið verk fyrir Sinfóníuhljómsveit Íslands og Stórsveit Reykjavíkur og tekið þátt í verki Ragnars Kjartanssonar, Kona í e-moll, í Listasafni Reykjavíkur. Gítarleikarinn Hróðmar Sigurðsson lauk burtfararprófi frá Tónlistarskóla FÍH 2017 og fjórum árum síðar gaf hann út plötuna ,,Hróðmar Sigurðsson” og hlaut mikið lof fyrir. Hann skrifaði tónverkið Vík fyrir Stórsveit Reykjavíkur og var það frumflutt af sveitinni nú í vor í Hörpu. Tvíeykið hefur undanfarin 2 ár unnið saman að plötu sem kom út á vegum Reykjavík Record Shop þann 23. júlí síðastliðinn og nefnist hún plús 1 og einkennist af afar lífrænni blöndu djass, rokk, spuna og ambient tónlistar þar sem nokkuð hreinn og einfaldur hljómur rafgítars og rafbassa fær að njóta sín.

Sérfræðingurinn, Stymmi Klippari og Geiri Sly fóru yfir vikuna í handboltanum og spáðu í spilin fyrir helgina. Olís deildirnar hafa aldrei verið jafnari og ærið verkefni að spá í spilin fyrir leikina. FH-ingar pökkuðu Valsmönnum saman í gær. Selfyssingar naga sig í handarbökin að vera ekki komnir með fleiri stig og frábær endurkomusigur hjá Mosfellingum. Nóg af handbolta um helgina og allt saman í þráðbeinni á handboltapassanum.

Matthías Hemstock fór að tromma 9 ára gamall og hefur starfað við tónlistarflutning í fjóra áratugi. Hann fór fljótt að spá í áferð og segist ekki bara hafa áhuga á trommunum, heldur fyrst og fremst á hljóði. Verkefnavalið hefur endurspeglað þessa hugsun og spannar gífurlega vítt svið, allt frá rokki og poppi til klassískrar tónlistar, þó jazz- og spunatónlist hafi verið rauður þráður frá námsárunum við tónlistarskóla FÍH og í Berklee háskóla í Bandaríkjunum. Nú er Jazzhátíð í Reykjavík komin á fullt flug og Víðsjá flýgur með, þessi auðmjúki og fjölhæfi trommuleikari er gestur svipmyndar í dag.
