Helende gesprekken
#45 Sientje - mijn eigen 95-jarige oma - vertelt over haar jeugd en de Tweede Wereldoorlog

Helende gesprekken

Celebrate the solstice with a story that intertwines the magic of the Nutcracker with the urgency of world peace and environmental and climate action. Jack Eidt reads from his short story ‘Nutcracker and the Shapeshifter,' a re-imagined classic that dances to the tune of environmental and social justice. Featuring a blend of fantastical characters and real-world issues, this episode of EcoJustice Radio is a call to action, wrapped in the wonder of a holiday tale, set to the enchanting music of Tchaikovsky's ballet. Enjoy this tale of rebellion, peace, and the power of the natural world. Based on The Nutcracker, a two-act ballet, with an 1892 score by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The ballet libretto was adapted from E.T.A. Hoffmann's 1816 story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. Here we present Jack's own pro-peace-environmental re-imagining of that story, called The Nutcracker and the Shape Shifter, published in 2022 in the Fifth Fedora Anthology of Weird Noir and Stranger Tales, Published by Borda Books. We also feature excerpts of Tchaikovsky's ballet, the Nutcracker, Opus 71, recorded by the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Yannick Nezet-Seguin, featuring Boys' Choirs Rijnmond, Rivierenland and Waterland conducted by Arie Hoek [https://youtu.be/tk5Uturacx8?si=TIKVwp0zz_7R_zaH]. One of the most significant of these deals was announced in October when Lansons was acquired by Team Farner.   This episode of Waypointers sees Gordon Tempest-Hay, the CEO of Lansons telling Waypoint partner Jim Houghton the story behind the deal headlines and his and Farner's ambitions – “to become the European management consultancy for integrated communications”.  Farner might not be a well-known entity in the UK, but that's about to change. We also hear about Gordon's rather circuitous route into the comms industry by way of spending almost ten years trying to make it as a rock star (hint, he came very close!) Once in the industry, from working in-house at the DWP, Gordon moved agency side, taking up roles at some of its most notable businesses – Fishburn Hedges, Blue Rubicon, Teneo/Blue Rubicon and from 2022, Lansons.  At BR/Teneo, and then again when Lansons became part of Waterland backed Farner, he's had plenty of experience working with private equity investors.  He talks positively about the value they bring to a partnership and the support they have provided him in good times as well as bad.

According to filmmaker and founder of the Identity Development Institute, Stephen Gyllenhaal, “The best instrument in the world is another human being.” In this episode, he and Thomas discuss the importance of resonance to trauma healing. Similar to attunement, resonance involves communication between nervous systems wherein our bodies transmit our pain to others within a safe and open environment. This is also the basis for the Intention Method (IoPT) sessions that changed Stephen's life and inspired him to start training others in this unique methodology. He explains that early traumas make positive change and evolution difficult, and how being present in connection with others has allowed him to experience profound healing.  He and Thomas also discuss how the art of cinema is a form of resonance, and the themes of galactic resonance that are explored in his upcoming documentary, The Universe Sings. Key Points: 00:45 Movies as an expression of trauma 06:54 Trauma travels generations 11:24 Healing requires digging at the core 18:45 The human being as an attuned resonator 24:52 Resonance is presence 28:36 Film and TV representations of trauma 37:18 How media creates spaces for conversation 41:46 The way to trauma healing   Stephen Gyllenhaal is a film director, poet, and Founding Director of the Identity Development Institute, which aims to grow a community of practitioners, researchers, and educators that integrate trauma in facilitating healthy identities. My dear friend Sonja Dippel, who runs One Billion Happy out of The Netherlands, arranged this meeting, and right away I knew I was in the presence of someone possessing extraordinary wisdom. Sonja, in her message to me, defined Karin in one word:  "Karin is color." After our conversation, I realized just how true that is, and just how many colors there really are, from the darkest to the brightest, that have come together to form a true human being.Karin is a force of overcoming incredible adversity and finding a path to your personal peace. She is an actress, a singer, an Instagram sensation, and the author of two books. In all arts, and particularly the art of living, I have rarely encountered someone who can do it as well as she has.Unfortunately, this week's episode discusses repeated incidents of sexual abuse that she and women around her have suffered. The goal of that aspect of this discussion is to inform and discuss how we can put an end to this heinously ugly side of humanity once and for all and support all victims, past and present. A keel-laying ceremony took place at Finnish shipyard Meyer Turku to officially mark the start of the revolutionary ship's physical construction, with Royal Caribbean and Meyer Turku senior executives and teams in attendance. The keel laying, a longstanding maritime tradition, involved a 3,000-ton crane lifting a massive steel block that is placed into the new ship's building dock and on top of freshly minted coins, which represent the shipyard and cruise line. The coins are meant to bring luck during construction, and they will be retrieved and given to Icon's captain and crew before setting sail.Icon will set sail next year with the latest innovations and signature features Royal Caribbean's teams have imagined and reimagined in bold, new ways, including a shift toward cleaner energy. The first of three Royal Caribbean ships will be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) – the cleanest fossil fuel available to cruise ships today. Combining LNG with a lineup of the cruise line's proven applications, such as shore power connection and waste heat recovery systems that repurpose excess energy to help power the ship's operations, Icon will be the next important step in Royal Caribbean's journey toward a clean-energy future.Signed, sealed, delivered… Celebrity Beyond. Exactly 20 years ago – on 5 April 2002 – the first two ships in the fleet were christened A-ROSA BELLA and A-ROSA DONNA in Rostock. A-ROSA celebrates the anniversary on board its ships with an A-ROSA United Event, where guests celebrate together with the crew until late at night. With the introduction of the A-ROSA brand, river cruises were offered for the first time to a younger clientele – detached from conventions, casual, active and full of highlights on board and ashore. The company has always remained true to this concept.Review of the christening of A-ROSA BELLA and A-ROSA DONNAAfter a construction period of only twelve months in the Neptun Yard Rostock, the two innovative river ships A-ROSA BELLA and A-ROSA DONNA received their official names during a double christening ceremony on 5th April 2002 in Rostock's city harbour.Godmother of A-ROSA BELLA was the 18-year-old The Honourable Anna Sterling, daughter of Lord Sterling of Plaistow, Chairman of P&O Princess Cruises. A-ROSA DONNA was christened by Anja Mager, 19 years old and an office management trainee with Seetours in Rostock. After an experience ship tour and reception in the coffee house on board, the guests were invited to the dinner “La BELLA DONNA” with live entertainment in the Nikolaikirche Rostock.Immediately after the christening, the two 860-ton ships left the Rostock overseas port expertly packed and secured on a barge for the Danube delta.History of A-ROSAThe A-ROSA brand was founded in 2000 by Seetours, the German offshoot of P&O Princess Cruises. Shortly after the deployment of the first two Danube ships, the company was taken over by Deutsche Seereederei in 2003 and the Danube fleet was expanded by two more ships. The Rhône was introduced as a new trade lane in 2005, on which A-ROSA STELLA and LUNA have been cruising ever since. In 2009, the first cruises on the Rhine started and the financial investor Waterland bought A-ROSA. After three classic Rhine ships, two Rhine-Main-Danube ships were put into service in 2012 and 2014 with the A-ROSA SILVA and FLORA. In 2013, Jörg Eichler came on board as managing director and introduced the premium all-inclusive fare and family cruises with Kids Club from 2014.With the Seine, the second French cruising area was added to the portfolio in 2017. After the takeover by the British financial investor Duke Street in 2018, the A-ROSA ALVA set sail on Portugal's Douro. In the 20th anniversary year of 2022, a total of twelve A-ROSA ships will be sailing in five European destinations. In May 2022, the A-ROSA SENA, the most innovative ship in the fleet, will join them, offering more space for the A-ROSA concept – spacious balcony cabins, a dedicated Family Area with Kids Club, several restaurants and bars as well as a particularly large wellness and fitness area. Thanks to a hybrid drive system with battery storage, it is the most climate-friendly cruise ship on Europe's rivers. A-ROSA also presented its new orientation from 2023, where even more quality and individuality will be offered with a PremiumPLUS range. And more... In this episode, Hans and Patrick patiently butcher and then discard the disappointing cuts of Chris's pick, Waterland - a novel he's sure he remembers liking, the first time he read it.

Old Testament Studies: An (Un)Academic Modern History

Conyers Middleton wrote three rebuttals to Waterland and Tindal. He took a middle ground approach critiquing both Tindal's optimism about a pure rule of natural law in the past and Waterland's insistence on special revelation as necessary for the incomplete revelation of natural law.

Old Testament Studies: An (Un)Academic Modern History

Daniel Waterland wrote a book refuting the views of Matthew Tindal. He argued that special revelation was known to all people in all times through the efforts of Israelites, Jews, and Christians so everyone had access to the necessary salvific message.

(A Ben & Tom episode - prepare for bone dry humour and challenges to the absurd.) With being all at sea with what episode to do this week, A listener and old Halo acquaintance Staneth Qulisy gave me direction and supplied me with a list, including Stargate and 10,000 BC. So, as I owed him a favour after the Judge Dredd shafting, we lubricated the guiles, webbed the feet, put on our lucky shell earring, and set sail for Waterland! Waterworld! The Go-to for all your wants and needs in the late 80s and early 90s - Kevin Costner had the solution. From giving Al Capone the boot to hitting homers (more than once) you want to know who killed JFK?... ask Kev. Are you dancing with wolves? Is that a thing? It is now,  A bodyguard to the stars, and finally, Mr Costner even found time to become your post-apocalyptic postie; what did you do today? So when everyone was demanding the world needed a big-budgeted Mad Max rip-off at sea, who do you think the people ordered to take up the mantle of 'The Mariner'? Next stupid question. Accompanying Kev in the wet world is a leather-faced looking Dennis Hopper, who himself was coming off quite the diverse run of films. So here we find Den speeding around, barking orders at his brother in arms, Hulk Hogan, all whilst maintaining a 40 a day smoking habit. Mama Mia!
