The Cross & Resurrection Change Everything | Easter at Burnt Hickory What if the final words of Jesus on the cross—"It is finished"—hold the key to your freedom today? This Easter message explores how these three words changed everything, not just for those who witnessed the crucifixion, but for everyone seeking hope, healing, and transformation in their lives now. Key Insights: 1. The Meaning of "Tetelestai" - Jesus' final declaration was used by servants reporting completed tasks, artists finishing masterpieces, and priests confirming sacrifices—all pointing to how Jesus fully satisfied our debt of sin. Mary's Journey from Grief to Joy - Mary came to the tomb seeking closure, not resurrection. Her encounter with the risen Jesus transformed her sorrow into purpose, demonstrating how Jesus can "put you back together" regardless of your struggle. The Resurrection's Transformative Power - The disciples went from hiding in fear to becoming the foundation of Christian faith because of "none other than the undisputed resurrection of King Jesus." This message explores how the historical events of Easter continue to impact lives today. Whether you're seeking to understand how much Jesus loves you, considering giving your life to Him, or finding yourself "in a deep, dark, heavy moment" needing to come back to faith, discover how the cross and resurrection offer more than religious tradition—they provide the power to transform your story completely. Have you ever truly felt the weight of what Jesus endured for you? Pastor Donnie McClurkin's latest sermon powerfully narrates Jesus Christ's crucifixion, death, and resurrection. He passionately recounts the journey to the Cross, providing a vivid and emotional account of Jesus' suffering, even His descent into hell. Emphasizing Christ's divine nature, His sacrifice for our sins, and the profound power of His name reminds us of the depth of Jesus' love and the necessity of being ready for His return. Key Lesson: Jesus came to be our Savior, and He is the only way to God the Father. Give Him all the praise, do not be complacent with your faith, and always be ready for His return. At Redeemer, our pathway is how we seek to embody our vision and mission, or in other words, put it into practice. We desire every person to enter into intentional apprenticeship to Jesus, to be in a diverse, loving community, and to live in Wichita as witnesses. “The Church exists for nothing else but to draw men and women into Christ, to make them little Christs. If they are not doing that, all the cathedrals, clergy, missions, sermons, even the Bible itself, are simply a waste of time. God became man for no other purpose.” – CS Lewis At Redeemer, we take seriously Jesus' call to “Go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Apprenticeship to Jesus is not a one time decision, but a lifelong journey of following Jesus as our master-teacher. Since the goal of the Christian life is maturity in Jesus, apprenticeship must be deep and holistic, transforming the spiritual, physical, emotional, social, and vocational parts of men and women. Apprenticeship to Jesus is learning to practice the way of Jesus in our homes, relationships, neighborhoods, and jobs. We believe Christlikeness is cultivated as we implement spiritual practices, live in community with other believers, and submit to the Word and the Spirit. We agree with Dallas Willard who said, “that the gospel is opposed to earning, not effort.” As we move towards cultivating a life of loving God and people, we trust Christ will mature us into his likeness. https://redeemerwichita.church/

In today's lesson, we continue our deep dive into the story of Jesus at the synagogue in Nazareth (Luke 4). If you haven't seen the previous teaching, we highly recommend watching that first to catch the full context of today's discussion. At the end of the last lesson, we saw how the crowd in the synagogue turned on Jesus in a moment of intense fury—so much so that they tried to throw Him off a cliff. This wasn't just mob violence; this was an attempted stoning according to the practices of ancient Jewish law. In this episode, we ask an important question: If God commands the death penalty for certain crimes, and only says "by stoning," then how exactly was that supposed to be carried out? What principles guided the process? What safeguards were in place to protect justice and prevent abuse? And how might those principles inform the way we think about justice and the death penalty even today? But that's not all. We'll also explore the psychology of group dynamics. Just a few verses before their rage, the synagogue crowd was speaking well of Jesus. What causes such a rapid shift in group behavior? How does anger spread through a crowd? And more importantly—what warning does this story offer to us as modern church communities? Join us as we study the Hebrew background behind this dramatic moment and uncover lessons that are just as relevant today as they were in the first century. --------------------------------------- www.figtreeteaching.com Join the Fig Tree Coffee Club: https://www.figtreeteaching.com/store/p3/Fig_Tree_Coffee_Club.html Support Fig Tree Ministries: https://donorbox.org/support-figtree-ministries Fig Tree Amazon Portal: https://amzn.to/3USMelI Lesson Handout: https://www.figtreeteaching.com/blog/nazareth-synagogue-pt-2-why-did-they-try-to-stone-jesus Explore my digital notes on the Gospel of John, now available at the links below: Notes on John 1:43-52: https://www.figtreeteaching.com/blog/notes-on-john-143-52 YouTube: https://youtu.be/NtBR99XplEo Music: Adventurous Life, by L-Ray Music via Premium Beats DMULO45ZPRA3UGK8 References: (Support Fig Tree Ministries when you purchase through Amazon using the links below)

Christ connects to himself a long anti-sacrificial tradition in the prophets, connecting sacrifice with disobedience and violence, and not instituted by God. Christ sees himself as exposing the history of murder and murderous religion, but to reduce Christ to a propitiating sacrifice erases this central part of his message. We continue our journey toward the cross this week as we follow Jesus through scripture. In Mark chapter 14, we learn of the account of the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus prays in distress, overwhelmed with what He will be facing in His death on the cross. You see, we have a Savior who has always and will always deeply care. He was not simply in agony over death but the burden of the wrath of God as He carried all our sins to the cross. He suffered in that moment, the equivalent of an eternity in hell, just for us. Our role is to recognize that Jesus is the only way and surrender to Him because He is Lord and to ask for His will, not ours. What's keeping you from being amazed that at Jeus' darkest hour, you were on His mind? As you read Second Corinthians 5:21 – God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God – what stands in the way of you surrendering to Him as Lord? As always, if you've got questions, we'd love to take time to answer them and pray with you. If you've taken the next step in your faith journey, let us know by visiting burnthickory.com/next.
"What should I do with Jesus?" This is the question we must answer. As we approach Jesus Death and Resurrection we dissect Jesus' trial before Pilate. The conversation between Jesus and Pilate highlights Jesus' proclamation that he is the truth and consequently we must contemplate our personal beliefs about Jesus and how they manifest in our conduct. We must not compromise truth as Pilate did. Our regular service is at 10am on Sundays. We are located at 304 E. Austin Ave in Hutto, TX. Can't make it in person? You are welcome to join us live on Facebook or YouTube. As we continue in the story of Joesph, we see that the only way we can grow in our faith is through death to ourselves and resurrection in Jesus. Joesph, after years of betrayal and pain, is finally blessed by God in an almost unimaginable way! We also see that all skills and gifts we have come from God.

Daily Devotional Sunday "Little Easter" Every Sunday in Lent is considered a "little Easter," a time to celebrate the Lord's resurrection and spend time praising God. So, in keeping with this, our Sunday devotionals will be Easter hymns or songs. Take a moment to sing these with your family or by yourself. If you like, listen to the song on your computer or phone. But be sure to spend time rejoicing and praising God for our new life in Jesus Christ. Today's song is newer than some of the others but one of my very favorite praise songs. Reflect on the powerful words. What a Beautiful Name By Hillsong Worship You were the Word at the beginning One with God the Lord Most High Your hidden glory in creation Now revealed in You our Christ What a beautiful Name it is The Name of Jesus Christ my King What a beautiful Name it is Nothing compares to this What a beautiful Name it is, the Name of Jesus You didn't want heaven without us So Jesus, You brought heaven down My sin was great, Your love was greater What could separate us now? What a wonderful Name it is The Name of Jesus Christ my King What a wonderful Name it is Nothing compares to this What a wonderful Name it is, the Name of Jesus Death could not hold You The veil tore before You You silenced the boast of sin and grave The heavens are roaring The praise of Your glory For You are raised to life again. You have no rival You have no equal Now and forever, God You reign Yours is the kingdom Yours is the glory Yours is the Name above all names What a powerful Name it is The Name of Jesus Christ my King What a powerful Name it is Nothing can stand against. What a powerful Name it is, the Name of Jesus . https://www.findnewhope.com Our staff and leadership employ what's called the “S.O.A.P. Method”. It stands for Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer. Each day, we read one or two chapters of Scripture and focus on one particular verse. We make some observations about how that verse touches us, discern how it applies to our lives, and offer a prayer related to what we have read. - Rev. As we read through the account of the crucifixion, we see that the guards offered Jesus a drink. This drink served as a kind of painkiller, but Jesus refused. He decided he was going to take on all the pain and all the cost for our sins. He spared nothing and didn't take any shortcuts when it came to fixing our relationship! In today's message, Pastor Mark will be sharing some of the details of what happened on the Cross. This was a pivotal moment in history and in our faith, and we can often miss or overlook certain specific sections. The more we study what happened on the Cross the greater appreciation we can have toward salvation!
Have you ever received a gift and not realized how much it cost? Maybe when you were younger as a child you didn't realize how much money your favorite toy was, and you weren't able to fully appreciate it! The greatest Gift that God has given us is his son and what he did on the Cross, and it cost God more than we realize! In today's message, Pastor Mark will be going over the account of Jesus' crucifixion from one of the Gospels. Jesus paid the price for our sins on the cross so that we could be reconciled to the Father. We will never know how much it truly cost God, but we can see glimpses as we read the story and discover more!
Death is undefeated. And because of sin, every human is impacted by death and is powerless to stop it. But Jesus did not leave us alone in our battle against death and sin. In fact, He came to do the entire work of destroying death and sending it back to the grave where it belongs.
