This time on Boldly, Tho we are back with Lower Decks for Much Ado About Boimler! Join us on a secret seed mission as we meet some cute aliens, meet an unsettling dog, meet a sinister ship, and remeet a substitute captain. Plus: can a captain be sparkly? We weigh in!
Captain Freeman, Ransom, and Shaxs are called away on an urgent, covert, seed-planting mission, so there will be a visiting captain on board the Cerritos. At first, Mariner is upset by this, but then she discovers it is her old friend from the academy, Amina Ramsey. Ramsey selects Mariner to be her first officer and help her not be just a "babysitter" for the crew, but Mariner is having a hard time not screwing up everything she does for some reason... Also, Brad Boimler gets kicked out of phase by a transporter experiment and is sent to "The Farm" on a Division 14 ship – where all the victims of recent Star Fleet accidents reside. He tries to stave off a mutiny. Tendi creates a dog that is horrifying. Meanwhile, Stevie can't find her sound effects and Akie's Easter Eggs theme keeps changing... Happy First Contact Day! On this episode, Shane is joined by co-hosts Steph and CJ and special guest Dio. They discuss the concept of winners vs. lower deckers, how Star Trek mishandles disability consistently, and question the economics of Starfleet. This episode starts with the discussion of a long and arduous journey Johnson embarked on in Central Park. We then gush about "Much Ado About Boimler" and "Veritas," and how changing up the show's formula injected new energy into these two episodes. Mike then dishes on all the stuff he's reading, while Johnson goes on a long tangent about Netflix's acquisition of "The Three Body Problem." And finally - is Facebook Dating any good? We are a full crew today with Adam, Russ, Coral, and myself as we catch up on Star Trek Lower Deck discussion, since we skipped the topic only to focus only on Mulan chat, last week. But before we get into a long discussion, Adam discovered the new Planet of the Apes films and it's kind of funny to see him realized he missed out on really good science fiction. The boys talk about episodes 7 and 8 of Star Trek: Lower Decks, and Steven surprises Neil with a message from a new friend of the show.
“Much Ado About Boimler.” The first season of “Lower Decks” is almost over ... and is their potentially some character development afoot? The trio is joined by Sue from the Roddenberry podcast “Women at Warp” to look at Mariner battling alongside an Academy friend - what has Beckett lost by clinging to her single pip with a death grip and not pursuing that captain rank? We also take a trip to The Farm with Boimler and Dog. What references did we miss? And how could more Rutherford be added to this episode?

Jack, Sam and Barm reunite just to hang out and talk Trek, and it feels so good. And this seems to be the perfect episode for them to do just that! It’s really a hangout sesh, as the Boims talk about their love of Boimler, their admiration for the whole voice cast, the positive evolution of Mariner, and a buncha real nerdy shit, like reveling in the second EDOSIAN to appear in Trek, cataloguing the freaks, unveiling the secret history of McDonald’s and Doug Jones, defending Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2 and laughing at language nerd Jack’s apparent inability to identify basic dialects. And Sam is here to respond to our reactions to the Deanna Smackdown and credit the podcast with LIFE-CHANGING REVELATIONS. Want some of those? LISTEN TO THIS EPISODE.

With apologies for Kevin's audio quality (he didn't know his mic had issues), we hope you'll find the content worth sticking around for as we continue our discussion of religion in Star Trek: Discovery! This time, we're exploring the second episode of Season 2, "New Eden" and how it connects to the way religion has been presented in Star Trek to this point. Of course, we'll also dive into Star Trek: Lower Decks, Season 1, Episode 7, "Much Ado About Boimler," along with an audience question about the book of Revelation and how you can be the captain of your own starship! Star Trek: Lower Decks – Season 1 Episode 7 – Much Ado About Boimler We’re back with the seventh episode of Lower Decks, titled Much Ado About Boimler. This episode was written by Story Editor M. Willis and directed by Post-Supervising Director Barry J. Kelly, who also directed S1E1 Second Contact and S1E4 Moist Vessel. Ensign Beckett Mariner – What’s her deal? The Captain, First Officer, and Chief of Security go on a covert mission, similar to the one Picard, Crusher, and Worf go on in the TNG episode Chain of Command. Edward Jellico isn’t the “sub” captain this time. Instead, the Cerritos gets Captain Amina Ramsey, a classmate of Mariner’s. She wants Mariner as her first officer during this mission, which Beckett accepts. Unfortunately, Mariner is bungling at every turn. Ramsey figures out that Mariner is taking a dive, an old boxing term given when a fighter intentionally loses, which is to say that she is intentionally performing badly. We still don’t know what Mariner’s deal is. We know she has been demoted and doesn’t want command, but we don’t know why, other than she finds it boring. However, in times of crisis, she excels. I hope we learn the story behind her actions will finally get explained, and that she will finally figure things out once and for all. Speaking of Boimler – You hardly notice it! OK, that’s not true. Boimler plays a big part in the B plot this week. He undergoes a transporter malfunction that causes him to hum at a high pitch and glow. This sends him to The Farm via a Division 14 ship, the USS Osler. We meet a creepy Edosian officer that we never get a name for, voiced by Fred Tatasciore, who normally voices Shax, but Shax didn’t have any lines this week. Joining him are Tendi, who also created an unusual dog that needed to go to The Farm as well. I didn’t know it at the time, but kudos to Nolan North, who plays the role of the command ensign who is experiencing accelerated growth on one side, and reverse aging on the other. We meet a character in a Pike chair, two characters mixed up in a transporter accident, and Anthony, who may be the offspring from the Janeway and Paris’ jump to Warp 10. A really good episode! This week on Star Trek: Lower Decks, while Tendi creates a new genetically altered pet named "The Dog", Boimler helps Rutherford with a new transporter project and things don't go as smoothly as planned. As a result, both are sent aboard the mysterious USS Osler to head to Section 14's "The Farm", which apparently are where all victims of science or medical experiments go. While enroute, Boimler causes quite a stir with the other misfits. Meanwhile, Captain Freeman, Shax and Ransom are away on a super important secret mission (not really) and an old friend of Mariners takes temporary command of the Cerritos. Her first order of business? Make Mariner First Officer while they help a planet in need and investigate why the U.S.S. Rubidoux is adrift in space! Freaks fight back as Sara, Bill, and Kasey and Dan sit down to talk about "Much Ado About Boimler," the 7th episode of Lower Decks! Much Ado About Boimler has something to do with Boimler, but can we talk about that Gender Reveal Party aboard the Rubidoux? Star Trek Discovery Podcast, featuring Picard and Lower Decks
I don’t know if this was the best episode of the season, but it was certainly the best in a while. It didn’t go so heavy on the references this time, which we both appreciated. Instead, they were more subtle. We are now in the backend of the season and Lower Decks keeps getting more interesting with each episode. Today's task is to breakdown “Much Ado About Boimler,” Episode Seven of the animated series. On the podcast, we are going to summarize the plot and then discuss our impressions of the show. We’ll end our podcast with recent Star Trek news. Before we begin, just remember our analysis will contain spoilers, so if you haven’t watched the episode yet, you may want to do so before listening to our comments. We promise not to divulge any of the many jokes or Star Trek referenced gags in the episode, so those moments will be fresh for you when you do get a chance to see it for yourself.

Boimler materializálódása egy kutyafuttában végzett transzporterkísérlet miatt nem fejeződik be teljesen, az átmeneti állapotban ragadt zászlóst emiatt a 14-es Divízió veszi kezelésbe, aki Tendi feljavított kutyájával együtt a rejtélyes szervezet rémisztő hajójára kerül. Míg Boimler a tudományos kísérletek változatos áldozataival ismerkedik, Mariner egy rég látott ismerőssel találkozik a hídon. A Lower Decks hetedik epizódját Gergővel beszéljük át.

Episode 283: Lower Decks Much Ado About Boimler Aaron and David are back this week to talk the next episode of Lower Decks “Much Ado About Boimler”. But before we get into this week's episode we ponder the latest Star Trek Discovery Season 3 trailer. The trailer has spawned some fan theories and we also discuss our thoughts on them. This episode gives us our first mention of Division 14, a medical branch in Starfleet that handles unsolvable diseases and science mysteries. This is an idea we both really love. Boimler gets into a transporter accident and Division 14 comes to take him to “The Farm”. It’s time to pour yourself a cold glass of Romulan Whiskey, for your weekly shot of Star Trek! A lot of laughs to be had this week but even more interesting plot lines. What does Starfleet do with all the medical accident victims they can't fix in 42 minutes? Is Mariner inept or just lazy? What would you reprogram your dog's DNA? As always, queue up the episode and follow along with our commentary. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thenerdparty/support

Star Trek: Lower Decks – Season 1 Episode 6 – Terminal Provocations We’re back with the sixth episode of Lower Decks, titled Terminal Provocations. This episode was written by Executive Story Editor John Cochran and directed by Bob Suarez, who also directed S1E3 Temporal Edict. Ensign Fletcher – Not your exemplary Starfleet Officer This episode, we get to see another Ensign on Lower Decks, namely one Ensign Fletcher, who seems to be a bit of a diplomat, but his other skills seem a tad lacking. The longer he went on in the episode, the more annoying he got. He was SO NOT Starfleet. One nice thing that he brought to the episode was that Mariner and Boimler got to work together on the same side, and they actually worked really well together. Rather than blaming Fletcher for everything, they gave him the credit for everything, which got him promoted to Lieutenant and transferred to Boimler’s dream assignment aboard the USS Titan, Captain William T. Riker’s ship after the events that occurred in Star Trek: Nemesis that occurred in 2379, the previous year, only to get fired six days later. Nice casting of JG Hertzler in this episode I thought the casting of JG Hertzler as the Drookmani captain was particularly brilliant in this episode, including drawing the character with an eyepatch, much like his more famous character General/Chancellor Martok from Deep Space Nine. He always puts on a good performance. It’s Microsoft Clippy! I mean Badgey! Most of the listeners, including Kyle and me, were taken by Clippy, which easily reminded us of the Microsoft Office Assistant, commonly known as Clippy. I was wrong in the episode that it came out with Windows 95. In fact, Clippy was introduced with Microsoft Office in 1997. It was universally hated by users. Tendi & Rutherford used his new holodeck training program that was not quite ready for use in your typical holodeck adventure gone awry that was part Elementary, Dear Data, part The Big Goodbye, and part Fistful of Datas. I enjoyed this part of the story.
