In dieser Episode unserer Star Trek Talkrunde widmen wir uns ausführlich der spannenden Crossover-Folge „Those Old Scientists“ aus der zweiten Staffel von *Strange New Worlds*, die am 22.07.2023 in den USA und am 23.07.2023 in Deutschland Premiere feierte. Die Vorfreude in unserem virtuellen Studio ist groß, denn wir erwarten viele interessante Aspekte und Diskussionen, während wir uns mit dieser besonderen Folge beschäftigen, die sowohl von *Strange New Worlds* als auch von *Lower Decks* beeinflusst ist. Die Episode behandelt nicht nur die Rückkehr zu klassischen Star Trek-Elementen, sondern stellt auch die aufregende Dynamik zwischen den Charakteren von zwei unterschiedlichen Serien in den Vordergrund. Daniela führt uns 120 Jahre in die Zukunft, als die Ensigns der Cerritos mithilfe eines Zeitportals Kontakt zu Captain Pikes Crew aufnehmen. Mit vielen humorvollen und auch nachdenklichen Momenten entfaltet sich die Handlung, die uns dazu zwingt, über die Themen Vorbilder und Stereotypen nachzudenken, insbesondere in Bezug auf die Orioner und deren Darstellung. Besonders hervorzuheben sind die technischen Details der Animation und das Design der Planeten, welche die Episode visuell ansprechend machen. Während wir uns in die Handlung vertiefen, erkennt man deutlich, dass die Charaktere sowohl in der Animation von *Lower Decks* als auch in der Live-Action von *Strange New Worlds* eine eigene, einzigartige Nuance haben. Hierbei ist auch die Beziehung zwischen Commander Bäumler und Captain Pike von zentraler Bedeutung, die mit humorvollen Momenten gespickt ist und gleichzeitig tiefere emotionale Konflikte aufzeigt. Im Verlauf des Gesprächs tauchen wir tief in die Beziehungen und Entwicklungen der Hauptfiguren ein, darunter auch die schwierige Dynamik zwischen Nurse Chapel und Spock. How far can a California private psychiatric hospital go in violating the rights and safety of people with disabilities—without being held accountable? A new report from Disability Rights California (DRC) shines a harsh light on College Hospital in Cerritos (CHC), revealing a disturbing pattern of inappropriate restraint and seclusion, as well as questionable use of involuntary emergency medications. These are not isolated incidents—they point to systemic problems affecting some of the state's most vulnerable residents. On this program of Pushing Limits, we'll speak with Richard Diaz, the lead attorney on the investigation, to unpack the key findings and what they mean for psychiatric care across California. We'll also examine how a lack of oversight, transparency, and disability rights enforcement contributes to ongoing harm in institutions that are supposed to help people heal. When the Cerritos has a navigational breakdown in Cetacean Ops, the only option for emergency repairs is a trip to Starbase 80. But when repairs start going in the wrong direction and a supposed curse has the crew licking walls, Mariner starts to see the station in a different light while Captain Freeman gets stuck in the maintenance labyrinth.
