Crisis Point, 3min., Romania Directed by Valentin Raileanu As a result of resource depletion, a virus outbreak stripping the afflicted of what makes them human and finally, war, humanity's sovereignty has fallen. In dwindling numbers, the survivors have been driven out of their homes in the search for safety, while a former soldier travels through the toxic environment in search of a cure. https://www.instagram.com/vali_stunt Get to know actor Diana Gheorghe What motivated you to make this film? Valentin Raileanu, a talented and successful stuntman, fight choreographer, camera operator, and my mentor in this wonderful field, has always had a passion for filmmaking and a wealth of insane ideas to bring to life. This passion led him to explore the subtleties of being a film director. When he proposed the idea of a post-apocalyptic short to me, I immediately knew we had to do it. I fell in love with the concept of showcasing a violent and harsh reality as a consequence of human recklessness. It was also a great opportunity for me to put my newly learned stunt skills to the test. Since I was young, I've loved acting and dreamed of participating in film festivals with my own projects. Even though this isn't our first project together, it is the first one we're submitting to festivals. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film? Approximately 10 weeks in total, give or take a few days. Pre-production lasted 5 weeks (for choreography, camera rehearsal, and preview), followed by 1 week of shooting, and another 4 weeks for post-production (editing and FX). Will the rapid growth in independent eye care services put patients with more complex eye conditions at greater risk of losing their sight? With increasing numbers of NHS Eye consultants taking on more private work such as cataract operations this could mean fewer NHS appointments being available for patients with more complex conditions such as glaucoma or macular degeneration which in turn could cause a crisis point in eye care services. RNIB Connect Radio's Toby Davey was joined by Ben Burton, Consultant Ophthalmologist and President of The Royal College of Ophthalmologists to discuss some of the concerns the College has about the growth of independent practices taking on more cataract work and what this means for patients with complex eye conditions who need more urgent eye appointments which would in turn prevent more people from losing their sight and what can be done to stop this potential crisis point in eye care services. To find out more about The Royal College of Ophthalmologists do visit their website - https://www.rcophth.ac.uk (Image shows RNIB logo. What do you do when the mentor you trusted becomes the monster you never saw coming?Today we have Elizabeth Purvis on the show. Elizabeth thought she had found her match: a magnetic spiritual leader with a bold vision, unshakeable confidence, and a promise to unlock the deepest realms of transformation and magic. But behind the veil of light and leadership, something darker simmered. In this gripping episode, Elizabeth recounts her long and complex relationship with Betty, tracing it from fascination to disillusionment—and ultimately, reclamation.Drawn in by Betty's charisma and promise of elevated consciousness, spiritual mastery, and access to powerful circles, Elizabeth entered with eyes wide open. What she didn't expect was how quickly admiration would blur into confusion, betrayal, and manipulation. We follow Elizabeth's path through cognitive dissonance, spiritual gaslighting, and professional entanglement—including being hired by Betty herself. As the cracks widened, Elizabeth faced the truth: this wasn't a sacred mentorship. It was a trauma-fueled hierarchy, propped up by smoke, mirrors, and energetic puppeteering. But this isn't a story of defeat—it's a story of discernment and power reclaimed. With brutal honesty, Elizabeth shares how she finally broke the spell, buried the illusion, and spoke the words that needed to be said.TODAY'S HIGHLIGHTS(00:00) Intro(00:53) In Today's Episode... As the war in Sudan nears its third devastating year the situation for children has reached a critical point, with an estimated 825,000 children trapped in and around the besieged Darfuri city of Al-Fasher alone, according to the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF).The ongoing conflict between rival militaries continues to displace thousands, while the collapse of essential services has left children vulnerable to death, disease, and malnutrition.Speaking to UN News's Abdelmonem Makki from Port Sudan, Eva Hinds, advocacy and communications chief for UNICEF Sudan, delivered a stark assessment of the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding.

Crisis Point 2: Paradoxus (Star Trek: Lower Decks, S3 E8) was recommended by Alex Russet, he/him , who said: This is one of my favorite episodes of this series alongside the finale for that season (Shax's finest hour was amazing.) The central conflict of Boimler trying to find meaning to life was fascinating to watch. Fun action scenes, a couple pokes at us fanfic writers not understanding story flow or proper exposition (I like to think I improved in that department... I hope...) and of course, Captain Sulu cameos is always a plus. Overall, a fun episode with a thoughtful central conflict. Hoping we see more of Will Boimler. As of me writing this Halloween 2024, there's still time.Crisis Point 2: Paradoxus first aired on October 13, 2022, written by Ben Rodgers, and directed by Michael MullenBoimler's holodeck movie sequel tries to live up to the original. The Joy of Trek is hosted by Khaki & Kay, with editing & production by Chief Engineer Greg and music by Fox Amoore (Bandcamp | Bluesky)Send us your recommendations, or support us on Patreon.Find us at joyoftrek.com · Twitter · Facebook

Crisis Point (Star Trek: Lower Decks, S1 E09) was recommended by Hauke [ˈhɔukə] (he/his), who said: Not really an under appreciated episode of Lower Decks, it is the first one to truly show what this series is capable of.Format breaking ideas, incredible love letters to how crazy a Star Trek movie can be (or a “Starfleet Movie” as they like to say in-universe), super smart and incisive humor such as comments on old Trek shows' problems with monocultures and centered on Mariner's character arc beginning to reveal her deeper issues.Crisis Point first aired on October 1, 2020, written by Ben Rodgers, and directed by Bob SuarezThe Joy of Trek is hosted by Khaki & Kay, with editing & production by Chief Engineer Greg and music by Fox Amoore (Bandcamp | Bluesky)Send us your recommendations, or support us on Patreon.Find us at joyoftrek.com · Twitter · Facebook

NICE SHOT, da VINCI! Our animated spotlight for this season of Trek Marry Kill concludes with the final two episodes of Lower Decks' first season, and joining Bryan to discuss is Katie Hampton, who appears in Jerry Seinfeld's Netflix movie, Unfrosted, which debuts May 3rd, 2024. The penultimate episode might very well be the ultimate holodeck adventure as Mariner reprograms Boimler's sucking up to the Captain simulation into an exciting Star Trek-themed action movie called Crisis Point: The Rise of Vindicta. Does Boimler learn what he needs to in order to impress Captain Freeman during an interview or does Mariner go on a journey of self-discovery that shakes her to her very foundation? Meanwhile, in the season finale, Mariner's big secret gets out that Captain Freeman is her mom and now it's up to them to figure out how to deal with the fallout. And then Captain Riker shows up. Our animated spotlights will return in September.

This week, in orbit of the Planet Neptune, a Doctor Who story is created which kills literally everyone who watches it. Which is why we should probably have thought twice before inviting the lovely Jeremy Radick to discuss it with us. Notes and links Steven Moffat's version of Dracula (2020) is actually Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss's version of Dracula. It stars the beautiful and terrifying Claes Bang in the title role, and it features the full complement of Moffat and Gatiss tropes, which will either be to your taste or not. And The Ring (2002) — a remake of the Japanese film Ringu (1998) — also contains a video which will kill all the people who watch it. (In seven days. It's nice to have a definite timeline.) Nathan and Erik Stadnik also share a birthday with Samuel Anderson. Forgot to mention that. Follow us Nathan is on X as @nathanbottomley, James is @ohjamessellwood, Simon is @simonmoore72, and Jeremy is @JeremyRadick. The Flight Through Entirety theme was arranged by Cameron Lam. In that episode, we talked over the show's pilot Breakaway, in which the moon is hurled from its orbit by a terrible nuclear explosion. Maximum Power is continuing its journey through Series C of Blakes 7. This week, the crew of the Liberator encounter some pacifists with a surprisingly deadly weapon in the third episode, Volcano. And finally, there's our Star Trek commentary podcast, Untitled Star Trek Project, featuring Nathan and friend-of-the-podcast Joe Ford. This week, we went back to Star Trek: Lower Decks for a violent and extremely cathartic holodeck episode called Crisis Point.
Dun. Dun. Dun.This is the moment where the conflicts your protaganists have struggled with since the beginning of the story come to a head and all hope seems lost. Maybe the leads thought they could get past their issues, but a setback has happened to make them realize they were capital W wrong. The strongest black moments feed on the characters' weaknesses and make them think those conflicts truly are insurmountable. This is the time for the writer to be as mean as possible. Take characters to the places where they feel hopeless about a possible bright future. In a romance, when writing a strong black moment, the leads subsequent happily ever after will feel more deserved. TL;DR: the darker the black moment, the happier the HEA feels.Book reference: Gwen Hayes's Romancing the BeatA note on colorism in language: We want to acknowledge that while the term "black moment" is conventionally used in writing...is that the type of word/phrase we should be using as writers? Moving forward we will be examining our use of terminology like this and paying attention to where it can be contributing to a white supremacist framework.Order of Dramas Discussed (in order): SPOILER CITY YA'LL BEEN WARNEDBlack Moments That Made Us Cry:Bad and Crazy (Amy)Happiness (Megan)Mr. Queen (Lia)Love Between Fairy and Devil (Megan's honorable mention)Black Moment You Didn't See Coming:Bloodhounds (Megan)Little Women (Amy)Strangers from Hell (Lia)A Romance K-Drama with a Well-Plotted Black Moment:Eighth Sense (Lia)Mad for Each Other (Megan)Crash Landing on You (Amy)What's a Drama With A Black Moment So Dark You Didn't Think Happiness Could Ever Come:Flower of Evil (Amy)All of Us Our Dead (Megan)Squid Games (Lia)Grey Moment That Worked For You Or Not:Hit The Spot (Amy)Business Proposal (Megan)Additional:Spoiler for I Am Not a RobotA discussion of Mr. Sunshine's ending A Black Moment Where We Thought It Would End Well But Then Oops...Tragedy:CLOY (Amy)Moon Lovers (Lia)Sign Up for Our Newsletter!Want our thoughts on why everyone should watch I'm Not a Robot in a 500-word essay?
