At long last, we finally dive into part 1 of Eric's story as he shares the beginnings of his journey from contained Mormon to enlightened Mountain wizard. Just when he was at his lowest point, he looked to the stars and the universe responded. Such a magical story. Can't wait for you to listen.About Eric / Mountain TribeEric Anderton goes by many titles....Water Dancer, Leprechaun King, Papa Bear, Ringo Zeppelin, The Great Mountain Wizard....the Grandfather of Mormons on Mushrooms. But despite his title, he is our favorite human and a magical soul inspiring the world through his love, his heart, his laughter, and his music. As artists of both imagination and soul, Mountain Tribes' musics take you on a magical journey, their words paint breathtaking pictures and the vibrations of sound are not only entertaining but inspiring as well. During his musical journey, Eric Anderton (singer/songwriter/guitar) who formed Mountain Tribe, has had the opportunity of opening for Sublime w/ Rome, Everlast, O.K. GO, to name a few. Some say his musical vibration can be compared with Xavier Rudd, Citizen Cope, and Nahko Bear. Uniting with acclaimed vocalists Tosha Carter and Janae Mechling along with Percussionists David Bower and Timothy Butler together they are “Mountain Tribe”.Instagram: @MountainTribeMusic; @FunnerOcktopusFacebook: MountaintribemusicWebsite: mountaintribemusic.com Mormons on Mushrooms – Ways to ContributeOur podcast is supported by our amazing listeners and magical community. Within the vast ocean of potential, All exists from love to hate, I now choose to focus upon, That which leads to heaven's gate. I forgot to mention the metaphor that came to me for the energy this weekend as Mercury conjuncts the north node. Let's make ourselves painters! Life is the blank, white canvas. Our feelings are the colors on the palette, and our thoughts take those feelings and apply them to our life, as thick or thin, as much or as little, wherever we freely choose. This painting takes a lifetime to complete! Perhaps the only difference is that we can erase or remove the paint on our artwork, but in life, we cannot undo the actions that have resulted from our thoughts, feelings, and will forces. We can paint over them, deepen or lighten them, but they become a permanent part of the akashic record of our soul. As such, they fall into the 12th house of Pisces, which is also called the "house of karma." We could also go a step farther and say that all of everyone's life paintings together form a collage we could call "the collective unconscious," another attribute of the Piscean 12th house. I wonder what that collage looks like now? I wonder what it looked like 2000 years ago or what it will look like 2000 years from now? One thing is for sure. It will look more light, beautiful, balanced, colorful, and harmonious the more we focus our thoughts and feelings on gratitude, joy, forgiveness, compassion, and love. May the painting of your life this week and beyond be amazing! This week's song is a must listen! Nahko Bear's "Black as Night" https://youtu.be/lkGBLLjAXEA
Nahko Bear is a wildly popular musician and activist whose indigenous ancestors come from Puerto Rican, Filipino, Mohawk, and Apache roots. His lyrics sing of hard truths and optimism for a better world. In this episode, Ariel Garten has the pleasure of speaking and singing with him just 3 days after his new album "Take Your Power Back", released. He shares his startling life story and raw perspective on the world as they played his songs and talked through the stories behind them.
For Nikki Edmundson it all started with a single pair of her own boots - cowgirl boots that is. She cut them down to fit, folded them over and, as the saying goes: 'These boots are made for walking.' Turns out that everyone wanted their own pair with their own story. And so, in the small town of Harrison, Montana, Canty Boots was born. ‘I really had no option except to give them away, sell them or cut them and I cut them. So I cut and rolled them and when I wore them into town, everyone gave me compliments. I just figured why not, you know, why not start selling them. So that's how we started.’ – Nikki Edmundson, Founder Canty Boots®. And that was how Nikki Edmundson started Canty Boots®. She opened an Etsy store and her first customer was from Australia. First sale and already Nikki was international! Cowboy boots always make a statement. And boy, are they ever hard to part with. Security vs Passion Nikki had to make a choice - start her career as a teacher or design and handmake cowgirl boots. Teacher = stability...Boot Designer/Maker = passion and fulfillment. She made the right choice for her and it's been a great journey. Who's Been in My Boots? Try Victoria Secret's Models, Katy Perry, Tanya Tucker, Nahko Bear and Cam Newton, just to name a few. This week's conversation with Nikki Edmundson: All it takes is the first Passion vs Security Her all women's team Rural and hot Bringing stories together Memories and walking He's a rancher Mom of four It's all in the name Finding the balance Keeping it close to home Turning Memories into Walking Stories Nikki learned quickly that selling footwear, especially cowgirl boots online could result in huge returns. Not all boots fit the same. Having cut down and refreshed her own pair, people had started asking her to do the same for them. So she took it a step further. Now Nikki is giving people the chance to hold onto memories and turn their own boots into their own unique story. The result...boots that her customers know will fit and walk in their story.

Snowflake’s music is dedicated to awakening the heart and evolving our collective actions — to help preserve our planet.Snowflake (aka Emily Richards) explores trails less traveled, whether hiking a mountain or sharing her songs. At the turn of the millenium, Emily was one of the first artists to make music available for download or streaming. With over 2 million unique downloads, she was the most popular artist on MP3.com, and headlined their 50-city tour — where 100 bands opened for her across the United States and Canada. During this tour, tragedy struck when Emily’s little sister Annie was killed by a drunk driver. We had the honor to speak with activist and musician Nahko Bear of Medicine for the People about how spirituality can influence music and music can influence spirituality. He also told us the story behind the name Medicine for the People and gave us a ton of music recommendations (at the 38 minute mark). Nahko and Medicine for the People's new album 'Take Your Power Back' is out now on all platforms! A bit about more about Nahko and this album: In a career built on reflective, deeply personal songwriting, Nahko’s extraordinary new album, ‘Take Your Power Back,’ (out May 15, 2020) stands as far and away his most profound, revelatory, and fully realized collection yet. Recorded in Los Angeles and Executive Produced by cut&dry, the record grapples with grief, trauma, and reconciliation, learning to face heartache head on and embrace the peace and serenity that comes with understanding and acceptance. As heavy as all that may sound, ‘Take Your Power Back’ is as uplifting and infectious as anything Nahko has ever released, blending socially conscious folk and rock with soulful, alt-R&B, genre-bending production. It’s an album of growth, of courage, of resilience. It’s a testament to the beauty and evolution that can come from fully inhabiting our pain, and it’s proof positive that our true power—spiritual, physical, and emotional—inevitably comes from within. “I had half a year just to cultivate and create on a deeper level with this record,” Nahko explains. “I realized that I hadn’t allowed myself to explore some of the darker parts of my psyche before because I’d never had the language for it. I started going to therapy, and for the first time, I saw just how much work I needed to do. It could be painful, but sometimes you have to go through the mud to find the flowers.” Born to a Puerto Rican/Native American mother and a Filipino father, Nahko was adopted by a white, conservative, Christian family in Oregon and raised under the name David Bell. He later learned that his birth was the result of a rape, that his biological mother had been fourteen and sold into sex work at the time he was conceived, and that his biological father had gone on to be murdered. A sixth-generation Apache, he took on the moniker of Nahko—a play on his middle name, Nahkohe-ese, which translates to Little Bear—as a way of reclaiming his roots, and in his late teens and twenties, he began traveling the country, spending stints living as far afield as Hawaii and Alaska as he wrestled with identity, purpose, and perception. Backed by his band, Medicine For The People, Nahko released his debut album, ‘On The Verge,’ in 2011, but his true breakthrough came two years later with ‘Dark As Night.’ The record was a critical and commercial breakout, landing in the Top Ten on the BillboardHeatseekers Chart and earning the band festival slots at Outside Lands, Electric Forest, Wanderlust, Bumbershoot, and more. Over the next four years, Nahko would go on to release two more celebrated albums with his band, solidifying his reputation along the way as an outspoken activist and advocate for both social and environmental justice.
