For centuries, nobles and ne'er-do-wells have gathered on country estates for a bit of leisure, a lot of sumptuous food, sparkling conversation, and general good cheer. You're invited to join us at Trevor Hall for a modern take on the traditional manor house weekend. Together, we'll make ourselves at home in this historic Georgian mansion surrounded by the picturesque North Wales countryside. But this is the good news. The person lives forever, in your broken heart that doesn't seal back up. And you come through, and you learn to dance with the banged-up heart. Sonnet Simmons and Chris Assaad have a heart-filled discussion about the unfathomable depths of creative potential in music and how to dive right in with clarity and purpose. Chris Assaad is a multi-talented artist, singer-songwriter, wordsmith and speaker. His songs are pure alchemy that open the heart and inspire, connecting us to our wholeness and joy. His music soothes and seduces with exquisite layers of acoustic and electric acoustic guitars falling over R&B, reggae and soul-infused grooves serenaded by Chris's richly textured emotive vocals. Chris is an up-and-coming artist within the conscious music community and wellness & transformation movement opening up for artists such as Trevor Hall, Ayla Nereo, Michael Franti and Nick Mulvey. He has also collaborated live and in the studio with Mose and has been a featured guest on Lee Harris' Impact The World podcast and Portal Presents live series. He has been growing an international grassroots community, sharing his eclectic blend of soulful roots music, heart-opening songs and stories with audiences in Canada, Australia, the US & Europe playing concert and festival dates from Wanderlust Whistler to The Sound Dome in Sydney to the Great Hall in Toronto. Chris recently released his fourth studio album entitled GOLDEN in partnership with White Swan Records & Black Swan Sounds. His most raw and vulnerable album to date was recorded in Victoria, BC in collaboration with producer Joby Baker (Deva Premal & Miten, Alex Cuba & the Wailin' Jennys) who also produced Assaad's LION LP. Chris' artist journey began with a leap several years ago to follow his heart and passion for music. Just as he began exploring his love of singing and songwriting he was suddenly faced with a rapidly progressing hereditary hearing loss condition. Nearly two years and several surgeries later, Chris's hearing was restored and he was given a second chance, further cementing his path of a life dedicated to his artistry. He has become an inspirational voice for others to follow their creative and spiritual paths towards living a life they love. Chris has a deep passion and unique gift for supporting others in liberating their voice, amplifying their authentic self-expression and tapping into their infinite creative potential. As a facilitator and guide, Chris holds a powerful sacred space for healing and transformation, drawing upon years of experience, deep empathic attunement and intuitive guidance. He has developed his own Voice Alchemy method to help clients access the healing power of their voice, weaving practical tools, ancient wisdom and multiple healing modalities to bring forth the full potency of their unique soul song and expression. Do you want to live a more intentional life? Do you feel like sometimes you miss moments you wish you didn't? Yeah, same... So what's the solution? Higher perspective. Higher consciousness. Higher state of being.. This episode, I share my story of meeting Trevor Hall in Tampa, FL before his concert. Once you get past my sub par story telling ability, I connect it with Moses and the Burning Bush - the essential idea of living open and being ready to see things that may otherwise go unnoticed. Because what if ALL ground, is in fact, "Holy ground?" What if God is always speaking to us but His voice just goes unnoticed because of distraction or lower conscious living? This episode will inspire you to raise your awareness, especially in the every day mundane moments. There is... a sound. Many, through the ages, have heard it. It echoes in the world all around us, it reverberates in songs of joy and lament, it vibrates in the names of the gods and goddesses themselves. Across the world, tradition after tradition describes a sound that is the source of all sound, a sound that can be heard if we practice attuning ourselves to it. So the Indian yogi follows the sound OM to its source, the Brazilian Umbanda practitioner rides a thread of vibration to the great vibration, and the Gay'Wu group of Australian Aboriginal women speak of how sound transports the singer to their homeland, to the place where the 'time is now.' To access this sound isn't frivolous, it serves to replenish and renew our connection to the world around us, to reinvigorate relationships with land, with community, and with the harmonic laws of creation. So the role of the bard — the musical seer — has always been to listen for this sound, to dissolve into it, and to return laden with songs that reinvigorate natural relationships. Song, in this sense, reconnects us to and replenishes the law of the land, and in a time of fracture, listening for this sound and singing back to it in reverence is more important than ever. Anchored by an interview with musician Trevor Hall, and featuring original music from Leah Song and Chloe Smith and traditional Baul devotional singing from Sri Parvathy Baul, this episode is a love song to sound itself. Listen on a good sound system at a time when you can devote your full attention. Support the show

This week on No Simple Road we are super excited to have Trevor Hall as our guest! Raised on an island in South Carolina, singer/songwriter Trevor Hall realized at a young age that music was more than just a passion - it was his life's art. At sixteen, he recorded his first album. Shortly after, Hall left South Carolina for Idyllwild Arts Academy in California where he studied classical guitar and was introduced to the practices of yoga and meditation, which would greatly influence his life and his music. Hall's music, a blend of roots and folk music with touches of electronic elements, is imbued with a deep love of Eastern Mysticism. This powerful symbiosis fostered a deep connectivity with his growing fan base and Trevor quickly matured into a leader of the burgeoning conscious musical community. Along with numerous pilgrimages to India, he has sold out the historic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado as a headliner and he also completed a series of sold-out international tours with artists such as Ziggy Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Michael Franti, John Butler Trio, Matisyahu and Brett Dennen. We talk with Trevor about: How being an introvert at heart translates to being a musician. His experiences of getting signed to a major label at the age of 16 and how it affected him. How being treated like a 'product' took its toll on his mental state and self confidence. What the genesis of his spiritual journey looked like. Some of his experiences in traveling to India and practicing Yoga. How "the Great In Between' and the new album came to be. The ways in which becoming a Father have fundamentally changed him for the better. ... and much, much more!
