In this episode of the ROCC Pod, we sit down with Christina DeGregory, an independent insurance broker with Health Markets, to talk through her journey from a biology major (!) to health insurance and how she's using her science background to educate and empower clients. Christina shares that she holds a master's in biological sciences and once worked as a teaching assistant in cell biology and microbiology. That experience, she explains, helped shape her ability to explain complex topics—like health insurance—in clear, simple terms. She's now channeling that same teaching energy into her role as a broker, with a personal motto: “Insurance is hard, let me make it easier for you.”We talk through how she transitioned out of academia and into insurance after facing a stagnant job market post-grad school. What drew her to this career was the opportunity to connect with people, educate them, and help them understand their options. As an independent broker, Christina runs her own business under the Health Markets umbrella, helping individuals find coverage through the Affordable Care Act. She explains open enrollment, special enrollment periods, and how certain life events can trigger eligibility to enroll outside the standard window. We also touch on the most common challenges her clients face, such as confusion around deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums. Christina emphasizes her goal of making sure clients truly understand their coverage, payments, and what to expect in case of hospitalization or routine care. She works primarily with people who aren't eligible for employer-sponsored insurance—1099 workers, part-time employees, or those in between jobs—and particularly helps those in lower-income brackets who may qualify for subsidized or even $0 monthly premium plans.Christina also works with supplemental insurance like dental, vision, and indemnity plans that offer payouts for accidents, illnesses, or hospital stays. She outlines how these offerings can protect against crushing medical debt, especially for vulnerable populations. Soon, she'll also be licensed in Medicare to help retirees navigate yet another complicated health care system.Outside of work, Christina's passionate about music and community. A long-time fan of Detroit's EDM scene, she talks about attending Movement and Electric Forest every year. We also learn about her positive experience joining the Royal Oak Chamber and her love for being involved in local networking events.Throughout the episode, it's clear Christina brings not only technical knowledge to her work but also empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for helping people navigate the confusing world of health insurance.Call Christina: 248-981-3610Visit her website: https://www.healthmarkets.com/local-health-insurance-agent/cdegregory/Or find her on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/christina_degregory/ Learn more about the Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce: https://www.royaloakchamber.com/Connect with our hosts:Jon Gay from JAG in Detroit Podcasts - http://www.jagindetroit.com/Lisa Bibbee from Century 21 Northland - http://soldbylisab.com/

Maddy O'Neal is a Denver-based artist who describes her sound as “dirty funky bass music but make it pretty.” Her soulful melodic overtones, driven basslines, and glitched-out hip-hop grooves have wowed audiences at festivals and venues like Coachella, Lollapalooza, Lost Lands, Electric Forest and Red Rocks and she has toured with major acts like Clozee, Pretty Lights, Griz, and Big Gigantic.
In 2018, 28-year-old Kevin Graves went to the EDM festival, Electric Forest, in Michigan for the first time. It was during this trip that he suddenly went missing. His family and friends searched nonstop for him, handing out fliers and even putting up a billboard alerting people to Graves' disappearance. But after six and a half years, Graves' skeletonized remains were finally found on the festival grounds; an extremely bittersweet answer to receive. I couldn't be more psyched for this week's guest, LP Giobbi. LP is an absolute bundle of joy and light and her shows are life-affirming and community-building celebrations that connect us through the common bonds we all share. LP is a DJ, Producer, jazz-pianist and activist. She was one of NPR's Favorite New Musicians of 2023 following her debut album Light Places, and her latest album Dotr, features Danielle Ponder, Portugal. The Man, Alabama Shakes and Holly Bowling, among others. LP has played a multitude of festivals including Coachella, Lollapalooza, Electric Forest with the likes of Diplo and SofiTukker, just to name a few. She is also well-known in the jam band community for her Dead House performances featuring electronic versions of the music of Grateful Dead, and her stellar 2023 remix of Jerry Garcia's 1972 album, Garcia, is a perfect example of building the bridges that create those common bonds. I talk to LP about her life as a performer and what exactly it has taken (and at what cost) to get to this point, and we also explore her work as an advocate and activist. She founded Femme House, a nonprofit that advocates for gender equity in electronica, heads up her label Yes Yes Yes, and is also Global Music Director for W Hotels. LP is Everywhere, to loosely quote a Dead motto. This is truly one of my favorite interviews, and LP is a bright, shining light that you will learn so much more about through this amazing conversation!!For more information on Roadcase: https://linktr.ee/roadcasepod and https://www.roadcasepod.comOr contact Roadcase by email: info@roadcasepod.comRoadcase theme music: "Eugene (Instrumental)" by Waltzer

Bass artist Jaenga had a clear philosophy from day one, music should not be limited by industry standards or genre boundaries. Erupting onto the scene in 2015, Jaenga distinguished himself in the festival circuit early, with his signature purple school bus and electrifying bass sounds. Jaenga and the “renegade bus” are renowned for hosting some of the biggest names in the electronic scene, attracting top talent such as Griz, Space Jesus, Eprom, Slushii, and Buku with its collaborative environment and creative energy. Joining the lineup of Electric Forest, and Camp Bisco, he has defined his live shows by immersing audiences in the world of Jaenga. A bass purist with retro sensibilities, Jaenga integrates live guitar, drums, or even just a pair of CDJs into his experiential performances. His new EP, Toulambi Tribe, released in the fall of 2018 on Zeds Dead's Deadbeats label, featured the signature bass-heavy sounds and ambient soundscapes that have become synonymous with Jaenga. Taking inspiration from the ideologies of the Toulambi tribe, human technological syncretism, and his own nomadic spirit has enabled Jaenga to created a timely piece that accurately reflects and questions the current zeitgeist. Along with his EP, Deadbeats released a Jaenga remix of the Zeds Dead's track “Kill Em” in October 2018 alongside featuring his single "Gold Rings" on an original Deadbeats compilation.

As we approach a weekend 6 years in the making, we revisit when the Pretty Lights crew returned to headline both Bonnaroo and Electric Forest last month after more than a decade since their last appearances that solidified their presence/reputation in the scene. It's hard not to feel engrossed in nostalgia seeing PL back headlining renowned gateway festivals, exposing a new generation to their spell-binding live production with a repertoire that balanced reinterpretations of classics as well as what sounded like studio-ready tracks in a rare and iconic sunrise DJ set, presumably on an album that's coming, soon(?).

We chat with John Winters, co-creator of the “Call of Joy” art installation that debuted at Electric Forest in 2023. Inside the iconic red phone booth, you’re given the opportunity to share a memory of your own or listen to a message someone before you recorded. John and his wife Jessica were inspired to create the interactive piece based on research findings that building, storing, and retrieving happy memories can boost feelings of positivity and happiness, and even fight depression. Their idea became reality as recipients of the Plug In Program's Art Installation Sponsorship, which provides resources and support to artists of all levels. We all seem to be waiting for a "sci-fi" moment in our lives. Can we see what we don't believe? Can our attention be farmed? Can we see the color blue!? What will we manifest now that we are deeply questioning reality? We live in a hyper-reality of hallucinated information transposed by what's important for our survival. We commission a hallucination and show ourselves for tactical purposes. The eyes are a stage the mind palace uses to play a scene. Our real-world is received through the pineal needle in the center of our head. Our senses are here to only show us a reality our system can stomach. All of our vision and hearing is restricted by melanin, dopamine, and the emotional filters of the amygdala. Just as truth is suppressed in society, so is it suppressed by our amygdala. It is trying to protect us. This is how we come to learn about aperture. Aperture is the lensing of consciousness. A decade ago, Four-headed funktronic giant LITZ began leading listeners on energetically-charged adventures through feeling and sound. As they sharpened their showmanship and songcraft in the Maryland jam scene, LITZ ventured forth, opening for names like Papadosio and Lotus while adding Electric Forest, Resonance, and Peach to their festival accolades. The foursome–Austin Litz (keyboards, saxophone, vocals), Logan Litz (bass), Dan Gallerman (guitar), and Nick Thrasher (Drums)--are constantly producing new tracks that defy categorization musically and metaphysically. Combining funky horn riffs, wah-wah keys, pounding bass, flute, and sensational guitar, they curate a sound that isn't decisively funk, jam, go-go, or soul but irrefutably and exquisitely LITZ. On stage, LITZ are custodians of the audience's dreams, fears, and hopes. Their mesmerizing synergy and improvisation inspire authentic connection, reminding us that music, more than a sound, is a feeling. No two LITZ experiences are identical. As they riff and take risks, LITZ rocks their audiences' senses and souls, pulling listeners into new realms of emotion. Ecstatic introspection, laughs with friends, and dances shared with strangers are equally part of the LITZ odyssey. Website: www.LITZmusic.com YouTube: www.YouTube.com/LITZjams

The Gents are back on the podwaves to ring in the first episode of 2024. EstoBro flexes a new microphone courtesy of iamRavedad (1:00) while busting TV's chops about his seasonal technical difficulties. After giving their regards to their listening audience for hanging tight for the holiday season, they also announce how they will condense the podcast format for the new year, with the first episode having focus on multimedia and entertainment. EstoBro kicks it off by roasting the DCCU's final installment of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom before the James Gunn era takes off (16:30). TV holding the same opinion expresses the exhaustion of the comic book movie trend altogether; will Warner Bros. Studio ever match the same level of Disney's MCU? They will still be playing catchup, especially with Disney+ releasing the second season of What If...? over the holiday season (29:45), and how it was well-received and threw the MCU a lifeline. Disney however did take a massive loss with their signature cartoon "Steamboat Willie" entering the public domain at the start of 2024 (52:00), which unleashed the dark side of the cartoon all over the internet. Music was a huge part of the EstoBro TV Podcast last year, which is why it is the final segment of the episode (60:30). EstoBro announces the latest music festival news with Electric Forrest revealing their lineup, but the average attendee had a lukewarm response to this summer festival. The Gents are happy to be back, and cannot wait to share new episode of the EstoBro TV Podcast!Interact with the Gents of the podcast on the following social media platforms:TwitterInstagramFacebookTumblrEmail: estobrotvpod@gmail.com

Featured Musician: Joe Hertler & the Rainbow Seekers The Video: [After THE JUMP: The things said.] --------------------- 1. Sign Stealing Scandal-Like Substance starts at the top The more facts begin to overtake wishcasting the better off Michigan looks. No news but the bullshit level has gone up considerably as Big Ten coaches take the opportunity afforded by media sensationalism to get the Big Ten to punish Harbaugh before there's an investigation. Why? Probably because Michigan's own investigation determined they're in the clear to give Harbaugh a major contract. So either they're such idiots they actually believe Connor Stalions is the reason Michigan won so many games in 2021-'23, or they're smart enough to realize the results of an investigation won't match their preferred outcome. MSU's AD is one of two people willing to put their names to the pearl-clutching, and he's saying he's worried about the health and safety of his players, which shows you exactly how unserious the people trying to make this serious are. 2. Purdue Preview: Defense starts at 16:43 Ryan Walters brings his 5-1 "no-name" defense. They have two good pass rushers who are too big to drop into coverage, which they do on 40% of passing snaps. They bring five a lot, vary things by looping and bringing cornerbacks. Main structure is man everything: 5 DL for 5 OL, LBs or safeties for everyone in the backfield, and Cover 1 behind it. Giving up lots of yards because they tried to play this with Ohio State. Two best players in the secondary are true freshmen because it's a Year Zero situation. 3. Purdue Preview: Offense starts at 31:45 Fourth straight quarterback that Alex cyan'd, but this is on the better end of the cyan quarterbacks and maybe not fair because you took Card out of an offense where he got to pass to the most talented receiver in America to not that. Still have Devin Mockobee who will hurdle fools but also fumble, so they're using Tyrone Tracy, the former Iowa WR, as their guy. Tackles went from bad to worse over injuries, which limits their ability to run the ball unless you let them double your DTs with stretch zone using three good interior OL. 4. MSU After Review starts at 42:47 New level of Seeing It from JJ McCarthy, still not seeing it from the running backs. Good game for Drake Nugent—haven't had a chance to chart him much before now but he did a great job handling MSU's twist blitzes. Defensively Michigan used MSU's unpreparedness against them, getting them to fall into easy traps. Often it was players causing these by seeing something and making calls or shifting where they stand. MSU was having someone run in plays for a bit then gave it up because it was stupid. About the Featured Musician: JOE HERTLER & THE RAINBOW SEEKERS This year we are partnering with The Blind Pig for bumper music, since that's where I've seen most of the bands I've been pushing anyways. This is the week we're featuring the grooves of Joe Hertler & The Rainbow Seekers, who will be playing two back to back shows at the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor on November 10th & 11th. I just love the energy of this band—wife and I have been shaking our shoulders from our opposite desks all day as I've had these guys on mix. They've played Bonnaroo, Electric Forest, and Summer Camp, but eluded me until I saw them on the Pig's schedule. Since then I leared Hertler and guitarist Ryan Hoger had a Motown-influenced thing going until they lucked into musical prodigy/plays everything Micah Bracken to find their sound, adding a saxophonist and drummer to complete the set. I haven't seen them live but they're supposedly one of the most entertaining groups that play around here so that'll have to change soon. Song choices: What I Want Old Love Find Me Also because Across 110th Street will get our Youtubes taken now now, the opener and outro: “The Employee is Not Afraid”—Bear vs. Shark “Ruska Vodka”—Motorboat
This week on Why Music Matters, I get to hang out with my friend Mike Gantzer, guitarist and vocalist with indie jam-rock quartet Aqueous, as well as side project Death Kings - with Ryan Stasik of Umphrey's McGee and Ryan Nogle of Funktional Flow. Mike has spent the past decade on the road, and during that period, Aqueous has grown from a Buffalo band to a major player in the world of jam-based music, performing across the country and at prime annual music festivals like The Peach Festival, Electric Forest and Summer Camp. With Aqueous embarking on a hiatus, Gantzer reflected on the band's first ten years, the significance of the friendships that birthed the band, and the role that music plays in his day-to-day life. Welcome to Why Music Matters, Mike Gantzer!

Everything is harder than it needs to be and being an adult isn't what it's cracked up to be, but we're still going to celebrate summer and our country! Wells is on the struggle bus because of bank accounts and global entry, but Brand-eye is keeping the vibes positive as she recounts her time at Electric Forest and gets ready to go be a cowboy in Montana and Wyoming. Your hosts discuss a pretty big question in today's episode: Is Wells ready for another hound dog in his life? Wells went and looked at a pup recently that got him thinking, do we only have one dog in our lives that gets reincarnated into our next one? Some signs from the universe may point to yes. Then, the two get into some favorite things which debatably includes this most recent season of The Bachelorette, starring a potential serial killer and some of your future Paradise contestants. Glastonbury highlights, DTE power outages, more Titanic submarine fallout, Mick Mars v. Motley Crue, Cardi B v. Offset, 90 Day Fiancé Gino tries to grow a spine, and Tom Mazawey got stoned. We were right. Not-a-Prince Harry and that beast Meghan Markle are NOT good at producing content. Jeremy Zimmer declares her talentless. Taylor Swift once again made the right choice. The Titanic tourist kid just wanted to beat the world record for solving a Rubik's Cube near the ship wreckage. We check in on Gino from Canton in his adventures on 90 Day Fiancé. Glastonbury was full of a lot of great performances. Look at those crowds! Katie Holmes is worried sick, but no one is answering her phone calls. Jon Hamm married a striking young lady. Mick Mars is still very angry with "Da Motley Crue". Julian Sands... gone too soon. Michael Jackson... gone too soon. Red Table Talk... gone too soon. Paris Jackson performed in front of tens of people at Bonnaroo. DJ Diesel (Shaq) performed at Electric Forest in Rothbury. Tom Mazawey got stoned live on Woodward Sports for the very first time in his life. Michael Jackson fired somebody while performing on stage. We experienced a "once in a generation storm" again.
