In 2020, Magnitech was ranked #48 on the Channel Futures MSP 501. Also in 2020, Tim was awarded with the "Four Under 40" award by the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce. When he founded Magnitech in 2010, to quote one of his early business coaches, "he was just a kid with a computer." Although he already considered himself a good technician, he had no idea how to run a business. He had to learn to put his ego aside and allow himself to be taught and realize he didn't always have the answer. He has had several mentors and coaches along the way, and he would even go as far as picking the brains of his clients who have forgotten a lot more about business than he know. Although he ultimately makes key decisions for the company he founded, he has learned to empower his colleagues to give their opinion when asked in order to help him make the right decision that's best for both Magnitech and the client. The forces need to be aligned. He has also continued to surround himself with talented professionals who have expertise greater than him. It's the beauty of SCALE, and it pays dividends when the machine is working. It's such a thing of beauty. The most important thing he can do is build my team to be stronger than him. Believe strongly in what you do. Strive to make a positive impact every day, and make our clients better by using technology as the vehicle to move their business forward. What are some interview tips that can take you from simple to stand-out candidate? President and CEO of the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce Kaylin Risvold chats all things hiring with local experts Samantha Meredith from the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), Duckie Huynh representing Insperity, and Bill Lehman from Employ Source Temp Solutions. Interview Tips for the Employer Kaylin asked the panel “When posting a job, what are a few tips for the employer?” Samantha said “Being very specific and making sure you that you are letting the candidate know exactly what it is that they are applying for and what your expectations are so that there is nothing that is misleading or overlooked when they are applying for that, and they’re confident in knowing that what they are applying for they are qualified for. Are Cover Letters Still Required? Ducky believes “You should always include one because cover letters and resumes are two entirely different things. Your resume should be what your educational background, your skillset, and really have those details about your work history and experience. Your cover letter is what sells you. It’s your marketing plan. You have to show the value you bring to the organization.” Ducky later went on to say that a cover letter “should always be customized, everything should be customized, whether its a cover letter or resume or even a short email introduction. It should always be tailored to the position.” Interview Prep Kaylin asked the guests “What are some of the things that interviewees can do to prep for that first short meeting?” “They always need to research the company. Find out what they do and what their vision is,” Samantha said. Asking questions is a great way to demonstrate that you have researched the company. Ducky recommends asking questions directly to the interviewer like, “what do you like best about the job?” And “how do you feel like you fit into the culture?” Bill piggybacked off of that saying you should ask questions like “what kind of people have been successful in this role? What kind of attributes and skillsets did they have?” And then when you get the answer to that go to your experience and background and tie those together so being able to say you say that this time management is very important in this role and I have excellent time management skills and I exhibited that in my previous two positions doing XY&Z.”

State of the City Though it wasn’t a live in-person event like years past, the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce presented its 2020 State of the City address today. “Reinvesting in Our Resilient Community” Mayor Steve Chirico delivered the address, which focused on the theme, “Reinvesting in Our Resilient Community.” It featured how the city has responded to COVID-19. Chirico said the city’s strong financial position better prepared than many others for the pandemic. “Our finances have given the city stability over the past few months,” he said. “It allowed us to provide immediate financial relief to resident and businesses, like waiving late fees for utility payments, extending tax payment deadlines, and reducing third quarter commuter parking permit fees by half.” Development And though development has slowed down, and some projects like the Washington Street Bridge and North Aurora Road renovations have been postponed, the city hasn’t stopped planning. The new CNG fuel station, the CityGate campus, and several new developments along Ogden Avenue are in the works. “I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been told developer Thompson Thrift is actively working with a national retailer on a new grocery concept for the vacant Fair Oaks Ford property that will occupy 35,000 square feet,” Chirico said. In all, 250,000 square feet of vacant space will be redeveloped in the coming years. Response to Racism Chirico also addressed several high-profile incidents of racism that occurred in the past year. He commended Councilman Benny White and the Naperville Neighbors United group for working to bring community members of all demographics together. Several residents were even able to participate in the address by saying why they belong in Naperville. Looking Ahead Chirico concluded with a message of hope and admiration for the community’s resilience and solidarity. “Over the past two months, I have seen so many neighbors and friends put the we over me,” he said. “They’ve supported our businesses and they’ve supported each other. And those relationships are what will move us forward.”

You know when you meet someone and you just know that you will be friends with them? That is how it was when I met Stacy and Heather of Klique, a small but mighty branding agency based out of Naperville, IL. When we first met, I was writing the quote, "well behaved women rarely make history" by Eleanor Roosevelt on a white board. Fast forward to today and that is even more fitting as I have gone on to create this podcast to highlight said ill-behaved women and the history they are making. As fast as I knew that we'd be friends, I knew that Stacy and Heather would be my very first podcast guests. I've been fortunate to work with these rock stars on several brand strategy projects and they continually amaze me with the magic they create - from telling a powerful story to creating moving designs. In addition, they've supported and championed me personally which I will be forever grateful. Now back to the episode! If you want to learn more about the importance of brand to your business then this is the episode for you and you will be hearing from the masters! If you have any interest in starting your own business then this is also for you. Stacy is a self-taught designer with impressive branding chops. She has designed for some of the biggest names in the business: Tiny Prints, Pepsi, Hillshire Brands, and Land of Nod to name a few. As one of Shutterfly's top selling designers, her designs capture the essence of a personal story and sales always follow. Her family couldn't be more proud of her badass design skills, business-style swagger and her “just freaking do it” attitude. Heather loves nothing more than a pen, blank piece of paper (and mother nature). Her best stories and strategies always start there. She believes something magical happens when your pen touches a blank page. She has helped shape big global brands among the likes of Visa and AT&T - along with regional favorites like The Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce. She is an award-winning writer and storyteller and has a knack for understanding just what your brand needs. http://www.kliquecreative.com https://www.linkedin.com/in/stacy-amoo-mensah-9333a02a https://www.linkedin.com/in/heather-demonte-786798b2 3:06 Heather's career path (started at age 8) 5:04 Stacy's career path 5:30 Teaching Kindergarten and being a mom = rough combination 13:31 The emotional impact of branding 13:52 The journey of finding your value for creative women 16:00 Be kind but unwavering 16:29 What branding means for a business 18:12 Helping people find their story 19:00 Being an entrepreneur is HARD 24:04 The promise of DavidaJane is to take up space 24:45 Take yourself and your story with you on your journey 27:40 Are you getting the leadership team on your project? 28:00 Importance of having a process that works for you (and sticking to it!) 34:12 Translation vs. adaptation 34:44 Being lifted up by a female colleague (vs. stepped on) 36:59 Missing mentorship 38:21 Flipping the script on the fraud complex 44:00 From acceptance to empowerment 46:58 Reasons to rebrand 47:22 Your brand is an investment 51:31 Public speaking - think of your nerves as rocket fuel 56:30 Authenticity = success 1:01:45 The key to their relationship: boundaries 1:02:31 The magic of women in the workplace 1:05:00 When you should start thinking about brand (spoiler alert: from the very beginning!) 1:08:09 What the future holds for Klique
