Her Father Was Police in NYC During the WTC Terror Attack: Special Episode. On that fateful morning of September 11, 2001, Susan Fiorentino, then only 10 years old, had her world forever changed. Her father, NYPD Detective Pete Fiorentino, was one of many first responders who rushed to the World Trade Center (WTC) after the terror attacks. As chaos unfolded across New York City, the impact on Susan and her community was profound, shaping her life and her mission to preserve the memories of those affected, particularly the children of first responders. Check out the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Newsbreak, Medium and most all social media platforms. Now an author and advocate, Susan's story has taken her from that traumatic day to becoming a voice for many. Her book, "We Will Never Forget: The Stories of the Children of 9/11 First Responders," is a compilation of over 40 stories of children whose parents responded to Ground Zero. Proceeds from the book benefit the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a cause that's close to her heart. The interview with Susan Fiorentino is available as a free podcast on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show website, Apple Podcasts, Spotify and most major podcast platforms. Life During the Attacks For Susan and many others growing up in Staten Island, NY, 9/11 wasn't just a national tragedy — it was personal. “Most of my friends had family members who were either NYPD or FDNY, and they were working that day,” Susan recalls. The attack didn't just shake the city; it changed the dynamics of entire neighborhoods. Staten Island, home to many first responders, became a hub of grief and anxiety as the reality of the attacks set in. Many parents, like Susan's father, spent days and weeks at Ground Zero, working tirelessly in the aftermath. Her Father Was Police in NYC During the WTC Terror Attack: Special Episode. Keep informed by following the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, MeWe, Pinterest, Newsbreak, Medium and other social media platforms. She vividly remembers the uncertainty in the days following the attack — wondering whether her father would come home and watching the toll it took on her family and friends. These early experiences with fear, loss, and hope would later drive her to write her book, a project she hopes will resonate with readers and keep the memories alive for future generations. Listen to this interview as a free podcast on our website, Apple Podcasts, Spotify and most major podcast platforms. Finding Purpose in the Pain. Her Father Was Police in NYC During the WTC Terror Attack. Susan's journey through recovery was challenging. The emotional toll of growing up in a post 9/11 world, coupled with the impact on her family, led her to seek ways to heal. Part of that healing came through community support and giving back. Susan became a dedicated volunteer with the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, an organization that helps support the families of fallen first responders. “The work this foundation does is incredible,” Susan says, “and I wanted to be part of something that honored my father's work and the work of so many others.” The discussion is available as a free podcast on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio how and Podcast website, Apple Podcasts, Spotify and most major podcast platforms. Her involvement didn't stop there. Susan is now a member of the Foundation's Young Professionals Network, where she leads fundraising efforts and helps organize community events. All proceeds from her book will go directly to the Foundation. We cover her journey and story in platforms like Medium and Newsbreak. Amplifying the Voices of 9/11 Children Susan's book offers a unique perspective on the attacks. “Even though we all experienced that day, we all experienced it differently,” she explains. Collecting the stories of children who lived through the same trauma but coped in different ways has been a powerful experience for Susan. She hopes that by sharing these stories, others will understand the long-lasting effects of that day on the families of first responders. Some of the children in the book were inspired to follow in their parents' footsteps, becoming first responders themselves. Others chose careers in entirely different fields, seeking ways to give back to their communities in honor of their parents' sacrifices. Each story is a testament to resilience, bravery, and the lasting legacy of 9/11. Her Father Was Police in NYC During the WTC Terror Attack. Stay in the know by following the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, MeWe, Pinterest, Newsbreak, Medium and other social media platforms. Looking Ahead Through her work, Susan has built a strong following where she shares updates about her book and her ongoing efforts with the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Her goal is to reach as many people as possible with her message: that the 9/11 community still needs support, and their stories are still relevant today. The interview is available as a free podcast on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show website, Apple Podcasts, Spotify and most major podcast platforms. Susan hopes her book will serve as a reminder that the impact of that day is still felt deeply. “It's important to raise awareness that this is still a community that is suffering, and we need to support them,” she says. Her Father Was Police in NYC During the WTC Terror Attack. For Susan, telling these stories is not just about remembering the past — it's about ensuring the future generation understands the sacrifices made by first responders and their families. “Through connecting with others and sharing my own experience, I've found healing,” she says. “I hope this book helps others find the same.” Learn useable tips and strategies to increase your Facebook Success with John Jay Wiley. Are you a new business professional looking to network and gain more experience? You may be interested in the local Young Professionals Network program. President Ken Springer of the Knox County Area Partnership for Economic Development explains the program and its benefits.
There are so many benefits for real estate agents and REALTOR® members of local associations. Adorna Carroll is on the show to talk about everything that associations have to offer their members. Monica and Adorna share some of the benefits of joining an association, as well as best practices for engaging with your local, state, or national association. There are several values that associations can bring for agents, especially in the real estate industry where there is a three-way partnership between the local, state, and national association. The local association is the first point of contact for many REALTORS®, helping to orient the members and share industry best practices, ethics, etc. The local association also helps members understand what happens at the state and national levels. Another huge benefit of associations is networking! The opportunities are abundant both for you as an agent and for your clients. You have the opportunity to connect with people outside of your market, increase your reach, and work with people who are experts in a discipline other than your own. Networking across disciplines also benefits your communities and the populations you serve. Adorna and Monica talk about some other committees involved in the local, state, or national associations. Many associations have an educational committee, but Adorna views this more as professional and career development; associations should be focusing on getting a variety of people in front of their members who are going to present the best information for growth. Be intentional and pick good courses that are going to further your career. The Ethics and Arbitration option is a big part of the associations and what they’re about. There is a code of ethics in the real estate industry that helps to define the boundaries for REALTORS®. Adorna talks about some policies that help to define how agents should conduct themselves. The Government Affairs division is important for advocacy across the industry. The RPAC, or REALTORS® Political Action Committee, is an important vehicle for getting funding, strong lobbyists, and unity in the industry. This committee is on all levels, and forming personal relationships or political contacts is where the work can really get done. Some of the other committees they talk about are the YPN, the Young Professionals Network or Your Professional Network. This was originally created for younger real estate professionals to network and has morphed into a leadership and mentorship program. Most associations also have a finance/budget committee, hopefully with people who have a finance background and good checks and balances in place. There is a shared relationship between association volunteers and association staff. Annual training is key to establishing a productive relationship between both parties. The association staff manages the business and works for the corporation. The volunteers bring creativity and define the horizon line for the association and the members. Adorna’s last words for listeners are that getting involved in associations makes the most sense for your business. Not only will you get to know the people you will be working with, but you’ll learn so much along the way that it is guaranteed to be a great investment for your business. President and CEO of the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce Kaylin Risvold discusses the Naperville Young Professionals Network with CO-Chairs Kate Shields and Catherine Ross
In this episode, Tiffany Curry joins Jimmy Burgess to talk about the power of networking and confidence in real estate. Getting to know Tiffany Curry Tiffany Curry is a broker/owner of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices in Houston, Texas. Their company started two months before the pandemic. She was supposed to be a lawyer but she ended up in the real estate business when one of her classmates shared with her that she’s getting her real estate license. Tiffany wanted to try it too. It didn’t take much time for her to get her own real estate license as well. For the first six months after getting her license, Tiffany made about $4,000-$5,000. It wasn’t that big but it was enough to cement her decision of wanting to be in the industry instead of going to law school. She ended up finding an organization in Houston called YPN or the Young Professionals Network. Improving her real estate game She leveraged social media to find new clients. Her three social media channels are Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. LinkedIn is where she handles her online business and Facebook is where she is more sociable and where she’s able to share some personal things. She used social media to show that she’s unique from the other 25,000 realtors that were active in Houston three years ago. She posted on her social media channels and added value to people. She wasn’t only posting listings, she was posting other things that could be beneficial to others. Her aim was to become a resource person, the go-to real estate agent. The biggest upside to that was how she attracted realtors from across the country and how they were able to refer her to people coming to Houston. That referral is how Tiffany was able to build her business and maintained it through the recession. It’s important for agents to look for opportunities in other places and to try to think outside the box. Agents need to create their own networks because a network is a powerful thing. Tiffany’s drive enabled her to become the first broker formed by the Rethink Council. Starting her online website Your professional website is your online representation. It’s about the image, the bio, what you write about yourself, and more. It shouldn’t be all about you, though, but about the services you can offer to the people. From an agent to owning a brokerage Tiffany believes that there is a time and a season for everything. She didn’t shift into being a broker when people were telling her to. She made the shift when her mind was ready to make the move. There were many things that she couldn’t do as an agent and she knew that. When she saw an opportunity with Berkshire Hathaway, it enabled her to move her priorities and realize her visions and goals. A brand-new business in the middle of the pandemic The company opened two months before the pandemic and when the impact of COVID19 really hit the industry, Tiffany was more confused than scared. The good thing is that they are in the perfect location, and the office was small and affordable. Her mantra was simple: “You need to know how to sell what you have even when you don’t have what you need.” Coupled with her negotiating skills as an agent, her faith and confidence allowed the company to grow amidst the pandemic. Her agents made big jumps in terms of numbers over the year before in their previous companies. It’s important to have a positive mindset because you can’t help people become great when they don’t have the mindset to be great. At the moment, Tiffany helps agents develop the confidence to work with people of a different price point. Using the same training she had when she went into a luxury brokerage, she teaches other agents how to properly show luxury homes. She trains them how to do it for every single home until they get better at it. Use social media and take full advantage of it. Pick up the phone and have real conversations with people. Don’t call them to ask about real estate. Call them to ask them how they’re doing. Call them and start adding value. Become their resource person. Use social media and web presence to launch your niche - choose to play with your strength. Do community events if you can. Bring your events to neighborhoods and try to build a network in a more relaxed environment. “The Power of Networking and Confidence in Real Estate” episode resources Connect with Tiffany Curry on LinkedIn. Episode Summary: Today, our guest has a dedication to serving and giving back that she shows in her professional and volunteer ventures. Joining us is Jackie Soto, partner and broker at eHomes, a brokerage out of the Inland Empire in Southern California. Jackie has involvement in the WomenUp organization, where she has hopes to empower other women along her journey. Jackie also serves on the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals board and the National Association of Realtors' Young Professionals Network. In this episode, join Jackie and me to hear how Jackie had her start in the industry at just 18 and led her to two successful businesses! We also discuss the need for education and change in the real estate industry and just how Jackie is helping her fellow agents along the way! Top Takeaways: Jackie Soto's Advice for New Agents "Be collaborative. Be willing to share. I think a lot of reasons that people reach out to Elmer and me is because we're willing to share. We don't really think that there is a secret sauce. It's a lot of hard work, a lot of studying." "Keep moving forward. So much as you excel and elevate yourself, pass the baton. Be able to share. If you see someone doing something wrong, don't be afraid to give feedback, and accept feedback." "I always told myself once I found that key to success and I could learn how to build a business, successfully, I wanted to carry that on to other agents. I wanted to empower them because I have been there, and I want to pass that on. I don't want agents wasting five years of their career because they don't have access to the proper resources." –Jackie Soto [10:52] "It's truly been reaching out to mentors and asking for help and asking the right questions. Not being afraid to ask those questions, not raising your hand to say you want to do something, but you don't know how to do it. Asking for that guidance, that's been huge for me." – Jackie Soto [12:51] Episode Highlights: [00:15] Intro [00:31] Meet Jackie Soto—Broker from the Inland Empire [01:45] Born and raised in Southern California [02:54] Misconceptions of Inland Empire Communities [05:40] Changed Plans and the Path into Real Estate [06:49] The Push to Pursue Education in the Industry [10:34] Empowering Agents Through Brokerage Ownership [12:02] Reaching Success with Help from Mentors [13:22] Starting Divergent Realty [14:23] Transforming into eHomes [16:54] Development in the WomenUp Community [19:04] Technology Tools for the Agent [22:07] Openness to Change and Improvement [23:47] COVID's Impact on Southern California [25:49] Jackie's Advice for New Agents [26:54] Connect with Jackie [27:07] Closing Thoughts [27:30] Outro Episode Notes: Today, joining us is Jackie Soto, partner and broker at eHomes, located in the Inland Empire of California. Jackie was born and raised in Southern California, growing up in South Gate, a Los Angeles County city. Jackie now lives in the Inland Empire area of Southern California, and on this episode, shares some of the major misconceptions surrounding the Inland Empire. Jackie admits that she loves the area and is super happy to raise her children there. Although Jackie was not originally on the path to real estate, she fell into real estate very early adulthood. As her mom was in the industry herself, Jackie had the opportunity to help with an open house for her mother's colleague. This was the moment that had Jackie switching from the pre-med track to real estate. Jackie Soto spent most of her early career and most of her twenties studying to empower herself through education. Jackie went back to school to pursue real estate, where she received her brokerage license. Now, Jackie works towards different designations as she feels all agents should pursue education as the industry is continually evolving. From the beginning, Jackie Soto knew she wanted to open her own brokerage. She...

YPN Winner Brandi Minchillo & Non-Retail Tequila Pt. 1 | EP28 Ok, so when Bill gets a gift from a local Mexican restaurant and bar, 90% of the time it's probably Tequila. And our guest suggested tequila, so I guess we had to taste tequila. This unique blend was made specific for this restaurant so that means you can't buy it in stores (at least to our knowledge). So yeah, it's a special treat. That's why it is fitting we had a special guest and winner, Brandi Minchillo with Remax on for 2 episodes of Brokers and Booze Podcast. She won the opportunity to be our guest through a Young Professionals Network happy hour by sponsor Crescent Coast Insurance in Myrtle Beach. Lucky her! HaHa.
