I was recently listening to Joe Rogan's podcast with Navy SEAL Andy Stumpf (linked below) and he gave some incredible advice on what being "mentally tough" actually means. Sure, being able to endure pain and using brute strength is important, but they won't get you through BUD/S SEAL training alone. Stumpf has gone through the training himself and now he has the honor of being an instructor, which means he also gets to ask trainees why they decided to quit the training after giving up their life for this sole mission of becoming a SEAL. The #1 answer the trainees give for quitting is that they feel overwhelmed, mentally and physically. They failed to do one thing — which is what I go over in this Minisode. Hope you enjoy. CEO of Hurricane Group Brandon Webb has been long overdue for an appearance on the show. Now that's he's wrapped up The Power of Thought podcast, and is out promoting "Mastering Fear: A Navy SEAL's Guide," his latest book which came out this week, I was able to get some time out of him for us. We start off the show addressing a recent controversy with Navy SEAL Andy Stumpf, and why Webb declined an invitation on his podcast. We then talk the oncoming name change of SOFREP.com to NEWSREP, the reasoning behind it, and how it will impact SOFREP Radio. From there, we get into "Mastering Fear." You'll even hear a great excerpt from the book. "Mastering Fear" includes some excellent stories from interviews Brandon's conducted and stories of colleagues. Included in these stories are Kamal Ravikant, C.J. Ramone, James Powell, and Captain Jerry Yellin. If you are looking to conquer a challenge in your life and crush new goals, you need to pick up this latest work. Learn more about your ad-choices at https://news.iheart.com/podcast-advertisers

Everywhere you turn, you'll find men living what I call the sedated life. Like robots on an assembly line, these men wake up at the same time, eat the same food for breakfast, drive to work the same way every day, do the same menial tasks for 8-9 hours, drive home, kiss the wife and kids, eat dinner, watch some TV, go to bed, and do it all over again. My guest today, former Navy SEAL and wingsuit base-jumper Andy Stumpf is the exact opposite of that. And, while we can't all be Navy SEALs, jump of really high mountains and structures, and travel the distance of 18 miles in a wingsuit, we can all take some calculated risks that make us feel alive. Today we talk about finding something worth fighting for, eliminating emotions in the decision-making process, why people fail in the application of their goals, and how to live life on the edge. ANDY STUMPF Andy Stumpf (@andystumpf77) is a former Navy SEAL with SEAL Team Five and later joining the most elite counter-terrorism unit in the military, SEAL Team Six. He is also 5.11 and Black Rifle Coffee Company sponsored athlete, and has an affinity for jumping off really tall mountains and perfectly good airplanes. As impressive as that sounds, he refers to himself as a "professional gravity enthusiast" and rightfully so. He's completed wingsuit jumps lasting more that 18 miles at speeds of 161 mph. He is the recipient of 5 Bronze Star Medals (four with valor), the Purple Heart, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corp Commendation Medal with Valor, three Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medals, and two Combat Action Ribbons. In other words, the man is a genuine Bad-A and today's he's here to talk about living life on the edge. ***WARNING: SOME STRONG LANGUAGE IS USED IN THIS PODCAST*** On this episode Adam welcomes retired Navy SEAL Andy Stumpf on to the show. Andy is a breath of fresh air in today’s day and age. He’s not afraid to speak his mind and tackle subjects that most people avoid like the plague. His blog and podcast are worth exploring in-depth and although he covers very little hunting material, the subjects he does devote his attention to are timely and incredibly important. Andy and Adam dive into his time in “The Teams” and the lessons and life experiences he’s carried into his new life as an outspoken advocate for thinking before you speak (or post) and taking responsibility for your actions and the things you care about most. Andy is especially vocal about the common thread of “victimization” that seems to afflict so many people that live otherwise sheltered and comfortable lives. His travels to some of the darkest and most dangerous corners of the globe have provided him with a perspective that is not to be ignored. This is the kick in the ass a lot of us need these days!
