Serving in Special Forces isn't supposed to be easy. In fact, becoming a Green Beret is rewarding because it's supposed to be hard. If it was easy, anyone could do it; but not everyone can, or should, be considered elite. Retired Sergeant Major John McPhee is one of America's most distinguished and experienced Special Operators. For decades he led America's most lethal units in the Army's elite Delta Force. The self proclaimed Sheriff of Baghdad, John tells it like it is and leaves nothing up to interpretation. The Jedburgh Podcast, the Jedburgh Media Channel and the Green Beret Foundation are proud to announce our partnership with the University of Health and Performance outside of Bentonville, Arkansas. UHP is dedicated to building the world's most elite fitness and nutrition entrepreneurs out of our Veterans. To kick off our partnership, John and Host Fran Racioppi climbed into the back of an armored Humvee to reminisce about the impact of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, what America did right, what we did wrong, and why the counter-terrorism battle is far from over. John also shares his thoughts on the Army today, how to fix recruiting, the Israeli pager war, and why we must never forget that a Special Operator's job is to close with and destroy the enemy.Watch, listen or read our conversation from a vehicle many of us spent too much time in. Lethality, audacity and creativity. That's the culture of the Special Forces Regiment and the values each Special Operator is expected to live by. They're also the foundation of what it takes to be the premier partnered irregular warfare force in the arsenal of the United States Military. Our nation's Green Berets, Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations soldiers are led by Major General Gil Ferguson; the Commanding General of 1st Special Forces Command. For the final interview of our Fort Liberty series, Fran Racioppi sat down with General Ferguson for a conversation on what it takes to man, train and equip our Special Forces units. They dug into his goal to enhance the culture of the Regiment, how the Special Forces Groups are preparing for regional conflicts with unknown enemies, at unknown times; and just how Green Berets are solidifying themselves as the go-to option in the deep sensor fight against our peer adversaries.General Ferguson also explains the SOF-Space-Cyber Triad, where he sees Special Forces in a decade, and as our units evolve, what needs to stay the same. Take a listen, watch, or read our conversation with America's top Green Beret, then head over to our YouTube channel to watch General Ferguson share the lineage of America's first Special Forces in the Jedburgh Media Channel's first documentary, Unknown Heroes, Behind Enemy Lines at D-Day, the story of Operation Jedburgh. We had the pleasure to host Kingston, Ontario's own Boston Bruins Stanley Cup winner Rick Smith at Home Base recently, and sit with our own Senior Director of Clinical Services Navy Capt (Ret.) Dr. Joe Bonvie. Joe and Rick talk about the mental and physical toll on the mind and body that happens in and outside the rink. Rick tells us about his journey post-retirement in the woods up north, and how finding new identity and purpose that he always had in hockey for years was far from easy to come by. Rick and Joe talk about a social hub of sorts in Kandahar, Afghanistan that existed for years on a military base with a full-sized ball-hockey rink transported by the Canadians in 2007, and how bringing the Stanley Cup with them overseas was good medicine for many in need.A happy 100th Anniversary to the mighty Boston Bruins, as they lead 3:1 in the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Toronto Maple Leafs, facing off TONIGHT April 30th at Game 5! The biggest challenge America's Special Operations Veterans face is not becoming a Special Operator. Their biggest challenge is no longer being a Special Operator. This transition, despite its challenges, is also a Veteran's biggest opportunity. Data says that 48% of Veterans believe transition was more difficult than they expected, 62% say transition took more time than expected, and 76% say it was stressful. So, how do we create opportunity from challenge? For this episode Fran Racioppi sat down with 51 Vets, a non-profit committed to connecting veterans from elite military units with leading business professionals in the finance industry. From the American Legion in the iconic New York City Athletic Club, Fran is joined by Executive Director Lindsey Schiro, Board Member Chris Robinson, and Member Victor Reyna to break down 51 Vets pillars of support, how 51 Vet's is using their City Summits to create opportunities for SOF Veterans to work at financial institutions, and explain why companies who live by the mantra “hire for character, train for skill” are scaling their businesses on the backs of our Special Operators. Transition is hard, but the first step is defining the difference between what you want to do vs what you can do. Learn more on The Jedburgh Podcast Website. The Cognitive Crucible is a forum that presents different perspectives and emerging thought leadership related to the information environment. The opinions expressed by guests are their own, and do not necessarily reflect the views of or endorsement by the Information Professionals Association. During this episode, Bob Jones returns to the Cognitive Crucible to discuss strategic influence and how the United States is at a crossroads. Additionally, we revisit Bob's previous Cognitive Crucible appearance and discuss the importance of governance and taking other people's perspectives. Research Question: Bob Jones suggests as interested student examine: Is political conflict internal to a single system inherently different than political conflict between two or more systems; and if so, how, why and so what? How is the modern Chinese effort to expand their sovereignty to match their expanded power distinct from, or similar to, the US efforts to do the same in the 1890 to 1914 timeframe? If one expands the definition of unconventional warfare (UW) to the leveraging of foreign political grievances to advance or secure one's interests, do al Qaeda and ISIS conduct UW? Does the presence of absence of violence lend strategic insight to the nature of a political competition/conflict? If one accepts that AQ and ISIS wage UW campaigns, how does one best disrupt, defeat, or render irrelevant their efforts? Is counterinsurgency best thought of as a purely domestic, civilian-led activity; where, as in all domestic emergencies, the military is always in support, last in and first out? It has been offered that internal, revolutionary insurgency differs from democracy only in legality; and that causation is rooted in how some distinct demographic feels about the governance affecting their lives. How does this perspective affect counterinsurgency operations? Mr. Robert Jones is a retired U.S. Army Special Forces Colonel; a former Deputy District Attorney; and the Senior Strategist at U.S. Special Operations Command. Currently serving as a member of the SOCOM J5 Donovan Group, Mr. Jones is responsible for leading innovative thinking on the strategic environment and understanding how it impacts factors critical to national security, such as competition, the character of conflict, deterrence and societal stability. Mr. Jones's principle focus is on the fundamental human aspects of political conflict. In a rapidly evolving strategic environment, good strategy is rooted in understanding what remains constant and why; while good tactics demands a realistic appreciation for what is different or changed. Successful campaigning demands a fusion of the two. He enjoys “wire brushing” concepts by routinely standing in front of tough audiences. None of these is tougher than those he faces in his role as a fixture in the Joint Special Operations University's Enlisted Academy, applying a commonsense perspective to bring our most experienced Special Operators strategic insights they can actually use. This is also the third consecutive year that Mr. Jones has addressed the Air War College class during the Operational Design phase of their curriculum, sharing practical insights gleaned from his experiences. He has been a featured speaker at Universities as storied as Oxford, St Andrews, Stanford and Harvard; and has led professional development events with operational units across the SOCOM enterprise. Mr. Jones is also a Fellow with the Center for Advanced Defense Studies (C4ADS). I had the great pleasure to talk with Jeff Wilson, one-half of the writing duo Andrews and Wilson, well known for their Tier One series of books with settings in elite warrior units. Their latest book is the third in the Shepherd Series trilogy. It is the story of a legendary NAVY SEAL who is forced to retire due to injury; he joins a private security firm that fights not only kinetic battles, but spiritual warfare where SEALs and other Special Operators are teamed up with spiritual Shepherds. I wholly endorse the series.Jeff spoke of so much more than the books. He spoke about the power of God, who each of us is fighting something and what his faith meant to him when he was called to “do horrible things to horrible people.”I have failed at times to recognize the heroics of people who fight The Party in their quiet, dignified, shrewd and even godly ways. To the quiet soldiers, thank you and please forgive me. To the Podcast family: Please let me be the example of horrible pride from which you might draw a lesson. Not everyone is gifted to do battle in the same way, and we explore this in the second half of episode 1,225.What does God's Word say? Ephesians 6:1212 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.Alan's Soaps https://alanssoaps.com/TODD Use coupon code ‘TODD' to save an additional 10% off the bundle price. On today's episode, Dennis is joined again by with RET. Delta Force Operator and Founder of Blue Bearing Solutions, Kyle Morgan. Kyle is the Founder & CEO at Blu Bearing Solutions & for the past 20 years, he's served our country by fighting with elite special operations units in the harshest environments. He strived for excellence in everything he did and discovered that he thrives at leading cross-functional teams, creating inclusion, and making critical decisions under extreme stress. Kyle has been at the frontlines of every American kinetic conflict since 9/11. Starting as an infantryman in Iraq in 2003, then as a Special Forces Green Beret, and for the last 11 years as a Special Operator within the Army's 1st SFOD-D Combat Applications Group, where he led and managed elite teams that specialize in hostage rescue. Of all his experiences in the Service, one of the most challenging days was reacting to an attack while deployed as a Special Operations Advisor to the US Embassy in Bamako, Mali. His mission was to be a military advisor to the US Ambassador. This deployment had him engaging high-level State Department officials wearing a suit daily. Nothing about this was kinetic, but without regard for his safety, he ran towards the sounds of gunfire and relied on the training he had up to that point; Kyle formed a small team and led them to intervene in this horrendous terrorist attack on the Radisson Blu hotel in Bamako, Mali on 20 November 2015. Hundreds of innocent civilians were being held, hostage. This attack claimed the lives of twenty-three innocent civilians, including one American citizen. This attack challenged him physically, mentally, and spiritually. Physically they were in control, and he had to fight on their terms. Mentally he had no time to prepare for what unfolded. Spiritually the evil that transpired and he witnessed was disgusting. This was the longest day of Kyle's life. That pushed his personal & professional abilities to new heights. He'll always be grateful for the personal development that happened during those very long and frustrating days that followed. Blu Bearing Solutions is the culmination of his career in the military. They focus on building the “Protector” mindset and firearms instruction designed for law enforcement officers and law-abiding citizens, teaching students active shooter & crisis response tactics being used on the battlefield today by one of the most elite fighting forces in the world.” Today, Dennis and Kyle discuss standardized active shooter training, the problems of receiving proper training, holding yourself accountable, never staying stagnant, safe guarding and helping others, the negatives of comparing trauma, learning to love yourself and making sacrifices and showing up every single day. Zack Hughes- How Being A Green Beret Helps in Business Why do veterans make the best entrepreneurs? Because they are the hungriest, the toughest, the most persistent, and the most resourceful people in existence. And even if you've never found yourself in a literal battle, picking up some of those skills will change the way you show up in your business forever. Zack Hughes is a former Green Beret with the Special Forces, whose military career ended with an injury sustained during a tour in Afghanistan. Following his time as a soldier, Zack became the COO of Elite Meet and was inspired to co-found the Operators Association, a community designed to motivate, mentor, and support up-and-coming Special Operators. On this episode of No Bull Business and Brews, hosts Jason and Steve jam with Zack on Zack's early days as a young man who wanted to serve and who became a leader very quickly (and unexpectedly), the ambush that left Zack injured and set him on a new trajectory, the ups and downs of transitioning to civilian life and business, how soldiers and businesses can each benefit from the other's skills and experience, and how Zach and his team are preparing the next generations of exceptional operators. Tune in for an impactful interview with an American warrior who's been at the top as a soldier and an entrepreneur. What You'll Learn: How Zach earned a solid reputation with his new team through a combination of hard work, life experience, and a sense of how to provide real value to others What combat looks like in real life to those in the middle of it (because it's nothing like the movies) Why the most famously "cringe-y" social media platform out there actually ended up being one of the foundations of Zack's incredible success on social media And much more! Favorite Quote: "And truly, what I found big-picture here is another mission, something to get behind, something to be passionate for… I don't know how many of those you get in life. And so for me to be able to be still with my guys, I get to be around people that are constantly fighting for their dreams and their purpose. And I gotta be honest with you guys, I'm just glad to be around people that are hungry as shit every day now." -Zack Hughes Connect with Zack: Instagram Facebook LinkedIn YouTube TikTok Elite Meet Operators Association How To Get Involved: Jason on Instagram Steve on Instagram

And along with wife Alexandra, his proudest role to date as dad to Rafael, their 14-month-old who inspires him daily to do right by the community now and for the future. Ron Hirschberg talks with the Secretary about the journey so far, and how his drive to support and serve all veterans and families comes from within, and the calling to help all people in need or crisis, with DEI and the social determinants of health at the core of his mission. -Thank you to Secretary Jon Santiago for your service in many ways. You are indeed a role model for all of us and of course your little guy's generation to come. On today's episode, Dennis speaks with RET. They focus on building the “Protector” mindset and firearms instruction designed for law enforcement officers and law-abiding citizens, teaching students active shooter & crisis response tactics being used on the battlefield today by one of the most elite fighting forces in the world.” Today, Dennis and Kyle discuss his time in the Delta Force, switching from Military life to family life, harnessing ADHD, making a positive impact together, having the right people step up, being a protector and setting the standard every day with training. In April 2003 in Iraq, Kim "Killer Chick" Campbell flew a mission that defied logic and common sense. Responding to a call for help from a ground force about to be overrun, KC risked her own life to save them. The enemy always gets a vote, and then Captain Campbell's A-10 was almost shot down. With no hydraulics, in a plane that shouldn't have been able to fly, KC did what only 2 or 3 other pilots have lived through- she flew her A-10 back to friendly control in manual reversion. For her actions that day, she was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Colonel Campbell was kind enough to talk about her amazing career- from becoming the first father/daughter Cadet Wing Commander pair at the United States Air Force Academy, to pilot training, to becoming an A-10 pilot, to her current passion project, the Special Operations Transition Foundation. Her dedication to service continues to this day- and we can now add "Best Selling Author" to her list of remarkable accolades. Pre-order her first book, "Flying In The Face Of Fear- A Fighter Pilot's Lessons on Leading With Courage" on Amazon- https://www.amazon.com/Flying-Face-Fear-Fighter-Lessons/dp/1394152353 .If you are a Special Operator getting ready to transition out of the service, check out SOTF.org for all the help you need for the next step in your journey. We are truly honored to tell the story of Col Kim "Killer Chick" Campbell, and we appreciate her coming on.
