Jesus has done so much for us, but we cannot enjoy that until we let go of the old, and embrace the new life Jesus died to give us. Join Joyce today as she shares ways of breaking free from being overly rigid and judgmental.
One of the biggest challenges Christians face is to live a holy life without becoming overly rigid and judgmental with their faith. Today, Joyce discusses the difference between the old covenant law and new covenant grace.
Matthew 9:9-17 brings us two encounters between Jesus and other who have questions about how he leads his disciples. Jesus illustrates that he has not come to continue business as usual. Jesus is ushering in a new kingdom and covenant.
Throughout history there have been significant events that have truly defined a generation—the world wars, moon landing, civil rights movement, the end of the Cold War, 9/11, the tech revolution and the global pandemic more recently. But nothing has truly changed the world like the coming of Jesus Christ. Whether people know it and believe it or not, Jesus' coming truly changes everything, for everyone. In our passage this weekend Jesus challenges the preconceived notions of those who came to confront him on the issue of fasting, or lack thereof. In it we see him explode the little boxes that they tried to put him in, declaring powerfully that his message and ministry are unique and truly unlike anything else. This has massive implications for us as we consider our lives today and what we, like those who challenged Jesus, might be holding onto to our own detriment. Jesus has brought about his new way to bring joy, purpose and peace…will you fully surrender to him and the good thing he wants to do in your life? When you see Jesus (the fulfilment) doing something different - sacrificing, forgiving, showing compassion or mercy, choosing not to fight, to rest - are you teachable? Are you ready for the new?

The goodness and the generosity of God are unlimited, but our ability to receive from God is limited. Damaged receivers and old wineskins are the cause of our inability to receive the highest and best God has for us.
As we conclude our storyteller series we will take a look at Jesus' parable about old and new cloth and the old and new wineskins. What does this mean for our daily walk with Christ? Are we the old or the new wineskins? Can we be made new again?

As Jesus' followers, we must replace our old beliefs and habits and form new beliefs and disciplines around the teachings of Jesus. This week we explore the idea that Jesus makes all things new and that must impact how we view things, people, and our habits. Join us as we continue in the book of Luke. We desire God to move and work in our lives. Yet when He uses a particular tool to do just that, we begin to obsess about that tool and forget...
I really do not get the “Messianic movement.” Jesus said that He came to bring us all new wine, and told us that you can't put new wine in old wineskins. The old way of Judaism has been replaced by the new way of Christianity.
As we continue our progression through John Mark's gospel, Matt questions what we thought we knew about following the Spirit and calling ourselves progressive.
Mark 2:21 21 "No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. If they do, the new piece will pull away from the old, making the tear worse. 22 And people do not pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins." Many believe that verse 22 ...

This is the parable that Jesus told which explains our failed attempts at trying to mix the new with the old. The two will be in conflict with each other and end up causing greater harm. Whether we are trying to sew an unshrunk piece of cloth onto an old shrunk piece of cloth or mixing an old lifestyle with a new lifestyle, we will have tension. Jesus is referencing the idea of becoming totally new when we come into following him. Doing away with our old ways and practicing new ways. When we try to "live the best of both worlds" we will find ourselves in conflict. What old way do you need to cut out of your life in order to allow the new ways of Christ to flourish in your life? “Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast. “No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse. Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.””Matthew 9:15-17 NIVhttps://bible.com/bible/111/mat.9.15-17.NIVhttp://rocksolidfamilies.orgSupport the show
Pastor Josh teaches on embracing the gift of our inevitable transformation.
At first glance, the popular interpretation of these passages has become so entrenched, the heading of this section is called, “The Superiority of the New”. The translators are preemptively telling us that what is “new” is better. Is this what we're to take away from this teaching? http://www.thehiddenorchard.com/new-wine-old-wineskins
A new MP3 sermon from Grace Community Bible Fellowship is now available on SermonAudio with the following details: Title: New Wine in Old Wineskins? In Mark 2, Jesus is saying that you wouldn't use an old piece of cloth to patch a garment or put new wine into old wineskins. Similarly, we can't just patch God onto our lives. We can't combine our way of life and God's way – we have to be totally transformed. We cannot receive the gospel of grace and remain the way that we are! We need a whole new wineskin, we need to be reborn, and we need to be “refilled” with the Spirit of God.

My dude Eugene Kim is a dream guest for the podcast. Truly. As I started to brainstorm what Better on the Inside could be, I made a guest list of people I'd love to talk to. And Eugene was on the FIRST LIST, which means I've wanted to chat with him for quite awhile. (There are still some dream names on the list that I hope to wrangle one day) And my dude does not disappoint. Eugene is one of the strongest voices for experimenting and changing a church model that wasn't working for him as a pastor and isn't working for A LOT of people who come (or used to come) to church. Eugene Kim is a pastor and the brains behind the New Wine Collective, a grassroots movement empowering people to co-create their own spiritual community wherever they are. He is wildly brilliant and I'm so thankful for his work and advocacy in the church space. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/betterontheinside/message

Join Pastor Chad and his good friend Pastor Doug Tweed on this special episode of Awakened To Grace as they discuss the biblical root of the phrase "Don't put new wine into old wineskins" that we fine throughout the New Testament.
In Luke 5:36-39, Jesus tells the parable of New Wine in Old Wineskins. Jesus wants to make us “New Wine.” Three words come to mind when thinking about becoming “New Wine”: Intimate, Uncomfortable, and Transformative.
