*This is the Free Content version of my interview with Dr. John E. Browning. To access the entire episode, please consider becoming a Tier 1 ‘Gates of Argonath' member, or you can purchase this episode for a one-time fee. My guest this month is Dr. John E. Browning. A professor in the greater Atlanta metropolitan area, John Edgar Browning, Ph.D. has contracted or published 20 academic and popular trade books as well as over 100 shorter works on subjects that cluster around cultural studies, critical media literacy, Dracula, vampires, monstrosity, and horror. Included among his work in film and media studies is his decade-and-a-half-long ethnographic fieldwork with the human or real vampire subculture (a topic in which there are perhaps five scholars worldwide). In addition to academic venues, Browning has published on the real vampire subculture in public forums such as The Atlantic (2015) and Discover Magazine (2015 and 2018), and his unique expertise in this area has helped facilitate several public appearances as a guest scholar on, or service as a consultant for, over two dozen television and streaming networks, professional podcasts, and radio programs, including Discovery channel, National Geographic, Animal Planet, AMC Visionaries: Eli Roth's History of Horror, History channel, Disney+, Netflix, Discover Magazine's “It's Only Science” podcast, Ripley's Believe It or Not, NPR, The Howard Stern Show network, BBC Radio, RTÉ—Ireland's National Television and Radio Broadcaster, Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Georgia Public Broadcasting, and SLATE among others. In this interview, John and I discuss his research into the Real Vampire Community. He talks about his motivation to begin looking into this subculture, as well as what he's learned over the years. As this topic somewhat overlaps with my own research into the Otherkin community, I take the opportunity to ‘compare notes' so to speak, and ask questions to gain more clarity on this group. John also discusses to what degree contemporary expressions of the vampire in popular culture have influenced the real vampire community, and how his research has contributed to changing perceptions of this subculture. He talks about his term ‘defiant culture' as it relates to people who have been labeled ‘Other' or ‘deviant' and also mentions how his research has helped forensic professionals that deal with crimes that seem, on the surface, to involve people who label themselves ‘vampires'. We also touch upon the Temple of the Vampire, a group that is viewed as a religious organization, and how this group relates to the larger vampire community in the US. PROGRAM NOTESJohn Edgar Browning - Savannah College of Art and DesignForeword to The Palgrave Handbook of the Vampire (ed. In this episode, I unpack the common misconceptions and mislabelling of introverts. As a leadership trainer and coach, I often encounter scepticism about my own introversion due to widespread misunderstandings that equate/conflates it with traits like shyness, social anxiety, or even arrogance.   These labels can significantly impact mental health and self-esteem, especially for those lacking resilience. Through this discussion, I aim to shed light on these myths and provide clarity around what being an introvert truly means.    Dear listener, introversion is not synonymous with negative stereotypes such as lack of ambition or antisocial behaviour.   We introverts have unique strengths including deep thinking and thoughtful listening, which are often undervalued in society's extraversion-biased lens.   By understanding these distinctions better, we empower ourselves to harness our quiet power effectively both personally and professionally, and flourish without societal constraints.   ** Key Points **   ⤷ Introversion is often misunderstood, mislabelled, conflated ⤷ Empower ourselves to overcome societal biases ⤷ Advocating for accuracy   #MythsAboutIntroverts #Introverts #FlourishingIntroverts   *** Resources ***   Visit https://hub.flourishingintroverts.com/resourcesp for tools and resources mentioned during the podcast.

How do you classify Angels? Is any system correct or is it all anarchy? --- Join and support the community: https://www.creationspaths.com/ In this discussion, Charlie and Brian explore the enigmatic nature of angels, their classifications, and their roles across different belief systems. They examine historical and spiritual perspectives, such as the celestial hierarchies of Pseudo-Dionysius and Hermetic Kabbalah, discussing their implications in mystical and magical practices. By highlighting the fluidity and context-dependent nature of angelic systems, they argue for embracing multiple paradigms rather than rigidly adhering to a single framework. The conversation also touches on the differences between angels, otherworldly beings, and demons, emphasizing the necessity of understanding the purpose and intent behind engaging with these energies. They react to a trailer for the movie 'God's Not Dead 5' and highlight the propaganda and misinformation present in the film. They also touch on the dangers of Christian nationalism and its impact on democracy. In this conversation, Tim and April discuss the dangers of Christian nationalism and the conflation of allegiance to Jesus and allegiance to empire. They highlight the cognitive dissonance and mental gymnastics that many Christian nationalists engage in to maintain their beliefs. They also address the issue of authoritarianism and the false equivalence between progressive and conservative agendas. The conversation concludes with a discussion on the need for critical thinking and the importance of calling out propaganda and misinformation. Takeaways The conversation covers a range of topics, from personal experiences to popular TV shows and the 4th of July. The hosts discuss the rise of Christian nationalism and its dangers to democracy. They react to the trailer for 'God's Not Dead 5' and highlight the propaganda and misinformation present in the film. The hosts emphasize the importance of critical thinking and questioning beliefs, rather than blindly accepting dogma. Christian nationalism often involves a conflation of allegiance to Jesus and allegiance to empire, leading to a distorted view of faith and politics. Many Christian nationalists engage in cognitive dissonance and mental gymnastics to maintain their beliefs, often denying or ignoring the harmful aspects of their ideology. Authoritarianism is not exclusive to any political ideology, but it is important to recognize the power dynamics and propaganda tactics used by different groups. Critical thinking and the ability to recognize and challenge propaganda and misinformation are crucial in navigating political and religious discourse. It is important to call out and challenge harmful beliefs and actions, even within one's own religious or political community. The solo piano: a sound that's been evolving for over 300 years. It's perfectly happy all by itself, but it also plays exceptionally well with others. Flexible by design, the piano has been a mainstay in classical music and jazz, and a key element in traditional and popular music. With the arrival of ambient, minimal and new age music in the 1970s, the piano was expanded and dematerialized through studio magic, and combined with ambient and electronic textures to create spatial sound images. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, the acoustic piano meets ambient atmospheres, on a program called CONFLATION. The Divine Path of Desire

Desire is a divine gift that stirs the soul, prompting us to pursue its fulfillment. Yet we often corrupt divine desire by conflation and control. We conflate love with lust, which drives us to see the other as a utilitarian object to fulfill lustful desire rather than a divine being with which to seek meaningful presence. We conflate joy with happiness, and pursue fleeting pleasures. We conflate peace with the absence of annoyance and play never ending whack-a-mole with the slightest intrusion. Conflation leads to control. Lust requires control, reducing sex to on-demand video, one-night stands, rape, pedophilia, and worse. Happiness demands that we control the trinkets kept within our reach so that we may summon them at will. Removing annoyances instead of seeking shalom forces us to use force to silence unwanted voices. To pursue desire by conflation, control, or the commingled concoction of both inevitably leads to anxiety, frustration, and the worship of money as the wellspring of control. We suffer anxiety over our limited control and abilities to obtain what we want. Frustration strikes when we fail, but ultimately even when we supposedly succeed as our conflated counterparts don't culminate in contentment. And the love of money is inescapable. Money is control, mathematically summoned at will. The path of conflation and control to fulfill desire will never bring satisfaction - it is a dead-end road that, despite our best efforts, cannot be turned into a luxurious culdesac of consummation. The divine path of desire is paved with trust in the Divine God of the Universe who created our desires and designed us to seek Him for their fulfillment. Trust removes the need for control and eliminates the habit of conflation, leaving us in a state of blissful shalom. This underlying theme pervades our last six episodes, though without in-depth contemplation we will engage today. Today, we see the beauty of Jesus' words through a review of of the thread that weaves through his last six otherwise isolated proverbs in his Sermon on the Mount. Today, we see the beauty of trust as the path to fulfilling our desires. I didn't get involved in the Lineker wars, mainly because I had other stuff on, but the affair triggered a little moment of realisation in me. That is: how conflation is used as a political weapon. It probably always was, but today, in all this political and philosophical division, conflation seems to be everywhere. The Great Conflationconflationnoun the act or process of merging two or more separate sets of information, texts, ideas etc into one wholeThe intention, with deliberate conflation, is often dishonest, usually to confuse. It's a technique frequently used by lawyers in courts. Often the conflation arises from actual confusion, however. In the Lineker wars, Team Gary conflated the issue of free speech with that of impartiality. Yes, there is crossover in the Venn diagram. There always is, otherwise the conflation does not work.Gary should be able to say what he likes. Free speech! Well, yes, but not if you are a BBC presenter, runs the other side of the argument. Presenters should be impartial. Many are, but so many are not it is no wonder people think the BBC is not impartial, but biased. The issue that Lineker was arguing about has also been conflated. Legal migrants, asylum seekers and refugees should be distinguished from illegal migrants and people trafficking, but the two have been conflated. Because of that conflation, it has become impossible to have a sensible conversation about immigration without emotions getting in the way and wild accusations of racism and all the rest of it being thrown about. (Racism itself is forever being conflated with other things to the point that now anything non-positive said about a person of colour can be construed as racist. Indeed now even positive things are being called out for being racist). My plan in this article was to call out other areas of conflation, because once you see conflation, it's very hard to un-see. The more people that see it, therefore, the better the chance of some kind of truth returning to public discourse. I was planning to highlight a few areas of conflation, followed by a short discussion of each. But it turns out there are so many, to discuss each one would be exhausting both for reader and writer. So, instead, I've put together this list.(Perhaps in future articles, I'll come back and discuss individual conflations in more detail).List of common conflations* Elections and democracy* Free speech and impartiality* Legal and illegal migration* The law and fascism* Justice and equality* Speech and violence* Journalism and activism* Opinions and facts* Statistics and truth* Europe and the EU* The state and society* Free markets and capitalism* Education and indoctrination* Free speech and hate speech* Morality and religion* Patriotism and nationalism* Brexit and take your pick* Equality of opportunity and equality of outcome* Cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation* Rights and privileges* Diversity and tokenism* Diversity and skin colour* Inflation and the price of the goods and services measured by CPI* Criticism and cancel culture* Science and pseudoscience* Debt and productivity* Clean energy and environmental sustainability* Climate change and environmentalism* Money and credit* Deposit and loan* Investment and spending* Skin colour and culture* Islam and terrorism* Fluctuations in the weather and man-made climate change* Price and value* Diversity quotas and equal opportunities* Morality and obedience* Aspergers and classic autism* Equity and equality of outcome* Diversity and conformism* Social justice and left-wing activism* Morality and leftist/progressive ideology* The NHS and quality healthcare for all* Income and wealth* Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade* Anarchy and chaos* Conservatism and right-wing ideology* Western representative democracy and true democracy* Two political parties and choice* Abortion and euthanasia* Wokism and caring about people* Beauty and truth (an ancient conflation)* The state and God* Conservatism and the Conservative Party* Classical Liberalism and the Liberal Party* Anything I don't like and fascismIn fact, there are so many in politics, I think I should stop there. (Lots of other good ones have been suggested in the comments). These are some of the many examples of things that have been conflated, leading to misunderstanding and misinterpretation galore. It's important to understand the nuances and differences between these concepts if you are to have informed and productive conversations about them.I'm normally a proponent of the never-explain-as-conspiracy-that-which-can-be-explained-by-incompetence school of thought, but I am coming round to the view that a lot of this conflation is deliberate. I once saw a presentation by Professor Tim Evans which outlined the methods employed by Marxists to seize power. The goal of the Marxist, he argued, is to create chaos, then, from that chaos, secure power. Conflation leads to intellectual chaos. There are, however, also the stupid, the not-so-well informed and the confused, and plenty of them, who know no better. The Future of Life Institute (FLI) recently put out an open letter, calling on all AI labs to immediately pause for at least 6 months the training of AI systems more powerful than GPT-4. There was a great flurry of responses, across the spectrum. Many were for it. Many others were against it. Some said they signed, some said they decided not to. Some gave reasons, some did not. Some expressed concerns it would do harm, some said it would do nothing. There were some concerns about fake signatures, leading to a pause while that was addressed, which might have been related to the letter being released slightly earlier than intended. Eliezer Yudkowsky put out quite the letter in Time magazine. In it, he says the FLI letter discussed in this post is a step in the right direction and he is glad people are signing it, but he will not sign because he does not think it goes far enough, that a 6 month pause is woefully insufficient, and he calls for. a lot more. I will address that letter more in a future post. I'm choosing to do this one first for speed premium. As much as the world is trying to stop us from saying it these days. one thing at a time. The call is getting serious play. Here is Fox News, saying ‘Democrats and Republicans coalesce around calls to regulate AI development: ‘Congress has to engage.' As per the position he staked out a few days prior and that I respond to here, Tyler Cowen is very opposed to a pause, and wasted no time amplifying every voice available in the opposing camp, handily ensuring I did not miss any. Structure of this post is: I Wrote a Letter to the Postman: Reproduces the letter in full. You Know Those are Different, Right?: Conflation of x-risk vs. safety. The Six Month Pause: What it can and can't do. Engage Safety Protocols: What would be real protocols? Burden of Proof: The letter's threshold for approval seems hard to meet. New Regulatory Authority: The call for one. Overall Take: I am net happy about the letter. Some People in Favor: A selection. Some People in Opposition: Including their reasoning, and complication of the top arguments, some of which seem good, some of which seem not so good. Conclusion: Summary and reminder about speed premium conditions. I Wrote a Letter to the Postman First off, let's read the letter. It's short, so what the hell, let's quote the whole thing. AI systems with human-competitive intelligence can pose profound risks to society and humanity, as shown by extensive research[1] and acknowledged by top AI labs.[2] As stated in the widely-endorsed Asilomar AI Principles, Advanced AI could represent a profound change in the history of life on Earth, and should be planned for and managed with commensurate care and resources. Unfortunately, this level of planning and management is not happening, even though recent months have seen AI labs locked in an out-of-control race to develop and deploy ever more powerful digital minds that no one – not even their creators – can understand, predict, or reliably control. Contemporary AI systems are now becoming human-competitive at general tasks,[3] and we must ask ourselves: Should we let machines flood our information channels with propaganda and untruth? Should we automate away all the jobs, including the fulfilling ones? Should we develop nonhuman minds that might eventually outnumber, outsmart, obsolete and replace us? Should we risk loss of control of our civilization? Such decisions must not be delegated to unelected tech leaders. Powerful AI systems should be developed only once we are confident that their effects will be positive and their risks will be manageable. This confidence must be well justified and increase with the magnitude of a system's potential effects. OpenAI's recent stateme...

“The ideas that we attribute to bodies are arbitrary and often accepted but don't really exist,” says Zoë Bastin in our latest podcast series, Conflated. “Bodies are very malleable substances that can become whatever they want.”Conflated is a short series centred on the ideas of inflation and conflation, linking with a touring exhibition aptly titled, Conflated. Whether metaphorical or material, ideas of inflation and deflation can be taken in creative, environmental, and political ways. The 11 contemporary artists in Conflated show this in myriad forms—which Bastin speaks to.Bastin is one of the co-curators and exhibiting artists in Conflated. While known for her dance and choreography practice, Bastin also works across sculpture, video, radio and printmaking.Bastin talks about the ideas behind Conflated—both as an exhibition and a concept—as well as how she began dancing at an incredibly young age, how dance can be a gendered form, and what transformative possibilities Bastin looks to beyond this. We also talk about queer politics, shame, how bodies are objectified in art and life, and Bastin's advice to younger artists. With a current showing at ANU School of Art and Design Gallery, NETS Victoria are touring Conflated nationally throughout 2022 and 2023:ANU School of Art and Design Gallery(Canberra ACT)29 September—4 NovemberLogan Art Gallery(Logan QLD)29 July 2023—3 September 2023Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery(Swan Hill VIC)1 October 2023—3 December 2023This series is kindly sponsored by NETS Victoria who are nationally touring Conflated, assisted by assisted by the Australian Government's Visions of Australia program and the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria. Produced and presented by Tiarney Miekus, engineering by Patrick Telfer, and music by Mino Peric.

"Conflation of sex work and sex trafficking Because prostitution can be an extremely political topic that represents differing political interests, the method of data collection and the use of collected data can vary in reliability.[12] While more pro-sex work academics, organizations, and activists make an explicit demarcation between sex workers and victims of sex trafficking, many other groups consider prostitution to inherently lack a voluntary component. Many anti-sex work activists consider any form of migration for the purpose of commercial sex to be a form of human trafficking.[13] As a result, depending on the definition of human trafficking by the organization or data collector, the number of either migrant sex workers or victims of sex trafficking can dramatically change depending on whether or not these two categories of individuals are conflated. Scholars, service providers, and practitioners who attempt to remain apolitical and outside the feminist views on sex trafficking and sex work regarding prostitution still often remark how the legal definitions of human trafficking are still too vague for them to efficiently and neutrally define and count victims.[12][14] As a result, who is considered to be a migrant sex worker or victim of sex trafficking can widely vary." Legality of sex work See also: Prostitution law Decriminalization - No criminal penalties for prostitution Legalization -prostitution legal and regulated Abolitionism - prostitution is legal, but organized activities such as brothels and pimping are illegal; prostitution is not regulated Neo-abolitionism illegal to buy sex and for 3rd party involvement, legal to sell sex Prohibitionism - prostitution illegal Legality varies with local laws The legal status of sex work varies in various different national contexts around the world. Scholar Janie Chuang identifies the following four regulatory models for prostitution:[16] Complete criminalization: Prohibition of prostitution for all parties (prostitute, clients, and pimps) Partial criminalization: Prohibition of prostitution for all parties, except for prostitutes. This is popularly known as the Swedish Model which does not criminalize the prostitute, but rather targets the clients and pimps. Decriminalization: Does not consider prostitution a crime. In this interview I am joined by Meido Roshi, Rinzai Zen Abbot of Korinji Monastery, Wisconsin, and author of ‘Hidden Zen: Practices for Sudden Awakening and Embodied Realisation’. In this episode we discuss how childhood existential panic set Meido Roshi on a quest for spiritual meaning, travelling Asia to meet famous meditation masters such as Shri Munindra, Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche, Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche, & Sheng Yen before finally finding a home in the practice of Zen. Meido Roshi details his years of rigorous training, his subsequent awakening, and critiques the shortcomings of today’s American Zen lineages. Meido Roshi reveals the Rinzai Zen principle of ‘Ba’, how to cultivate spiritual charisma and use it to impact others, and offers a comparison of the different flavours of spiritual charisma possessed by the masters that he has met. … https://www.guruviking.com/ep98-meido-roshi-hidden-zen/

Spore broke the ice with a story out of D.C. where a program is building up to incentivize the taking of 'certain bio-tech products' that are designed to mess with ones RNA. This product is largely untested, unproven, has zero long term results documented in human subjects, has shown significant side effects, limited efficacy and a number other red flags. How are they incentivizing this, well buy handing out free weed of course!... Where to even begin with that one? The brain trust looks at the Biden/Harris inauguration and first actions, a deep look at Biden's 'gun control' plans as well as some of the other executive orders that were signed on day one. Continuing analysis on the "Capital Siege" coverage and framing, some of the dodgy characters involved and yet another chip at the facade of the Q (so-called) "movement." For additional notes and resources check out Douglas’ website.Introduction  The word magiLatin for Greek magos (plural magoi)From it we get the word magicianPersian, members of the priestly Zoroastrian religion, and almost certainly practitioners of astrology. Most scholars equate them with the sorcerers (Chaldeans) who served at the Babylonian court, as in Daniel 2. They are their spiritual descendants.Wise? Yes.Kings? No, despite the popular song: "We Three Kings" (here are the lyrics....)Conflation of Matthew 2 (Jesus an infant [born in Matthew 1], the family now living in a house) and Luke 2 (Jesus' birth).Tradition: 3 in the West, 12 in the East.Best known trio:Melchior - Persian scholarCaspar - Indian scholarBalthazar - Arabian scholarVarious legendsAbout the gift:Judas helped himself to the gold, which had been entrusted to him.Gold stolen by the thieves who were crucified with Jesus.Joseph used it to move his family to Egypt (when Herod tried to kill the newborn Messiah).Further legends involving the the frankincense and the myrrh.Commemorating the magiMartyred.Marco Polo saw their tombs in Tehran (1270s).Their bones lie in Cologne Cathedral.Commemorated at the Feast of Epiphany (6 January).Visit all the children of the world -- on camels, not reindeer. But most of these legends are from 6th- 9th centuries. Too late to be of historical value.Theology of the giftsGold shows Christ's regal status, myrrh his mortality, incense his divinity, corresponding to his virtue, prayer, and suffering (so Origen, c.200 AD).243 BC: A Syrian king (in Miletus) offers gold to the sun-god Apollo. Christ the true King -- Psalm 68:28, 72:11, Isaiah 60:3-6. Recall also the gold annual tribute to Solomon (1 Kings 10:14).In the light of such verses, the magi in time were elevated to kings. Biblical textOur story is featured in only one passage.Matthew 2:1-12.Again, the Luke 2 birth account is earlier.Note: "When it rose" (NIV) may be "in the east."ProphecyMicah 5:2 - fairly easy to understand. Though note that Matthew is quoting from a different version of Micah than the one that has come to be part of our Old Testament (translated from the Hebrew Masoretic text).Hosea 11:1 -- more difficult. Matthew is showing that in Jesus are recapitulated events surrounding his people Israel.Jeremiah 31:15 -- the prophet views the discouragement and hopelessness of the exile as grief / loss of Rachel (Jacob/Israel's wife) for her children. Matthew finds a deeper significance in the Massacre of the Innocents. Note that Rachel's tomb is just outside Bethlehem. Historical concernsAstronomy?Conjunction of planets?Comet?Caution about explaining such biblical events.Star appears at birth of ruler -- deeply meaningful in ancient culture.Herod the Great (74-4 BC)Illegitimacy as king of the Jews.Half Jewish, half Idumean (Edomite). Not a true son of David.Secures his kingship by traveling to Rome and making a deal with Augustus Caesar (nephew of Julius Caesar).Murderous natureKilled family members.Ordered the deaths of others he perceived as threats to his reign.Date of deathBased on the testimony of the Jewish historian Josephus.Jesus was apparently born around 2 years before Herod died.Zoroastrian religion (the faith of the magoi).Whereas the sorcerers of Babylon (in the book of Daniel) were polytheists, the Persian (Achaemenid) Empire had undergone a conversion to Zoroastrianism (6th century BC), a quasi-monotheistic (though dualistic) religion. Note: modern Iran (Persia) is predominantly Muslim (since the 7th century AD).Listen to the podcast on Zoroastrianism if you want to learn more about this religion.More on the prophecy of Micah 58th century BC.Rachel died near, and king David and Jesus were both born in, (southern) Bethlehem Ephrata (Ruth 4:13-22; 1 Samuel 16:1). This is to be distinguished between another (northern) Bethlehem (Judges 12:8).Anticipated a divine Davidic king."The Slaughter of the Innocents"No historical proof, but realistic all the same; fits perfectly with what we know of Herod the Great.Number of dead baby boys: perhaps 20?Several famous paintings, e.g. one by Giacomo Paracca)Death and burial of Rachel (Genesis 35:19), just outside Bethlehem.Application"Wise men seek him still." Of course this is true. But is it the point?Look inward: The magi help us to contemplate the biblical significance of Jesus' royal divine birth.Look outward: The magi (as Gentiles) point to Jesus' universal, cosmic significance. This ties in much better with Matthew's Gentile theme (e.g. Matthew 1 [women in genealogy], 28 [make disciples of all peoples]).A common biblical theme: the outsiders "get it" before the insiders. This is (and should be) humbling.

But what can happen if we are too hyperfocused on our mission without the proper structures and processes to back it up? Keep Reading >> Today, I share what aim conflation is and how it can arise within mission-driven businesses if leaders do not prioritize proper organizational structures and strategies first and foremost. I also discuss how grounding your business in practical action can provide you with the capacity to give back and do more good in the world than ever before.       “It takes an unwavering faith and belief in the worthiness of your vision, in the validity of your ability to produce results, and in your ability as a leader to make the impossible happen.”- Eleanor Beaton       Today on the Fierce Feminine Leadership Podcast:   How aim conflation may be slowing down your business’s growth Why being an entrepreneur can feel like doing the impossible Why building a business takes conviction, not just confidence How I define radical conviction and why you need it as you move into 2020 The importance of knowing your mission, vision, and “why” What happens if you have multiple visions and missions for your business What aim conflation is and how it can arise when your focus is primarily on your mission Why it is essential to keep up with the structure of your business, not just the vision alone The importance of focus in business Two things that a business is set up to do and what a business is not inherently built to do Why your vision is the North Star of your business How to structure your time so you can organize your business and dive into your mission wholeheartedly     Love the show? Manny shares his thoughts on isolationism v.s. interventionism and the consequences of going too far in either direction. Another discussed resurgence from a past era is the "America First" narrative we've seen again under Trump. Other topics covered include progress made in U.S. society over the years, a unilateral foreign policy, a Brit's perspective on Hillary Clinton, what countries act as global and regional hegemons, and the League of Nations.

A person believes he can combine several bad ideas into one great idea, thus making life unbearable for all.

Soteriology 101: Former Calvinistic Professor discusses Doctrines of Salvation

This is a long one, but some of the strongest arguments are toward the end, so the listener is encouraged to stick it out.   Dr. Flowers recently wrote an article discussing the #1 Argument of Calvinism and Pastor JD Hall "polemicized" it on his podcast called "The Polemics Report," which can be heard here: http://polemicsreport.com Dr. Flowers explains the root cause of JD's confusion over the point of contention presented in the article is his conflating of man's responsibility to repent with God's choice to save whosoever does so, as if they are both equally the same thing. JD fails to read important portions of Dr. Flower's article leading to gross misunderstanding and misapplication. The strength of one's argument is not typically reflected in the portions addressed by one's opponent, but in the portions ignored.  JD has addressed Dr. Flowers before but he has a tendency to "hit and run" so to speak...in that JD typically brings a charge against Flowers but fails to stick around to engage in further dialogue or rebuttal. Dr. Flowers even goes so far as to cordially challenge JD (or any other notable apologist) to a debate over the nature and responsibility of mankind.  For more one can visit www.soteriology101.com

The invalid legal fictions of statism: counties, states, nations, etc. Report #TL07A: THE ANATOMY OF SLAVESPEAK by Frederick Mann http://www.buildfreedom.com/tl/tl07a.shtml "It is hard to fight an enemy who has outposts in your head." Sally Kempton It's the nature of slavespeak to keep you in your place, i.e., oppressed Terrocrat--coercive political agent "...it's absolutely vital that you understand that the primary means terrocrats use to subjugate, control, and dominate their victims is words." F.M. Beware the cattle guards for your mind, which are typically devised for you at an early age The fundamentally irrational nature of spanking, or "tough love," rests on rationalizations for evil actions Authoritarian sociopaths demand "respect" (in the form of fear and obedience), but turn-about is not fair play Rationalizations support pseudo self-esteem and vice versa; if you don't honor yourself, you won't honor others People in government commit crimes (such as extortion and kidnapping) with impunity, crimes which are forbidden to individuals "[The State] will give you everything if you worship it, this new idol: thus it buys for itself the luster of your virtues and the glance of your proud eyes." Nietzsche People have to maintain the language of seeming truth in order to maintain their power People falsely believe that they would suffer if the State fell The language of liberty (and euphemisms) are used to cover up the tyranny of statism In general, slave-mentality can consist of many elements... Each of us is responsible for our own happiness Life is neither fair nor unfair; fairness is a concept that concerns human relationships "It's the law" is slavespeak that denies taking personal responsibility for injustice and immorality There are psychological payoffs for feeling down and out "A belief that you have to sacrifice part of your earnings, property, etc. 'for the good of society'" spells complete enslavement Absolute truth is absolutely true :) http://www.ozarkia.net/bill/anarchism/Fallacies.html#Self%20Exclusion Thanks for all the letters! by Sam Dodson (aka SamIAm) http://freekeene.com/2009/04/23/thanks-for-all-the-letters/#more-1887 http://www.youtube.com/ObscuredTruth How many civil disobedients and libertarian voices will it take to instill freedom memes in the general populace? In a free market you get what you pay for, and you only get what you want--unlike imposed governmental "services" Book TV on C-SPAN2 - Top Nonfiction Authors Every Weekend - Robert Higgs http://www.booktv.org/watch.aspx?ProgramId=ID-10300 who's your nanny? by Trevor Bothwell http://bothwell.typepad.com/whos_your_nanny/2009/04/american-the-idol.html Conflation of State and society disarms the masses and perpetuates the Stockholm syndrome Mass cognitive dissonance circulating in the culture on account of the State Orthodox Objectivist claptrap: http://capitalism.org/faq/anarchism.htm "Legitimacy" of government is fostered by virtue of being a coercive "legalized" monopoly Individual rights exist prior to any government; you are free to make choices by virtue of being a rational animal The magnitude of the problem of government is reflected in slavespeak and failure to reason from first principles (and defining terms) as well as rewards for obedience The choice for budding Objectivists: become a Randroid, or become an independent thinker (and thus anarcho-capitalist) Once you abandon your search for truth, you succumb to your fears Government equals completely communized justice; a monopoly of "justice" will always provide the worst quality at the highest price Galt's Gulch was anarchy! Fear of "competing gangs" stems from fear of others, not trusting them to be responsible individuals "I swear--by my life and my love of it--that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine." John Galt bumper music "drum-1a" by friend and Free Stater Roger Grant (better song title might be "Black Robe Incantation...") http://www.politicalgraffiti.com; couldn't find exact link to comment, please go to http://completeliberty.com/magazine/category/91697
