What if you haven't lived up to your potential? In this reflection on Psalm 8, John Ortberg explores one of the great wonders of God's creation: human potential. You can count the seeds in an apple. But you cannot count the apples in a seed.Human beings possess an extraordinary capacity to grow, create, love, serve and become. Psalm 8 looks at the vastness of the heavens and then marvels that God is mindful of us.But there's another side to potential. It can become a burden.I should be further along.I should have accomplished more.I should have made better decisions.I should be more successful, disciplined, attractive, productive or fulfilled. What happens when the possibility of what we could become turns into disappointment over what we haven't become?John offers two truths to carry with us:“I am but dust and ashes.”And:“The whole world was created on my account.”One reminds us that we are limited creatures. The other reminds us that we are deeply loved. And if you're worried that too much of your life has already passed or that you've wasted your potential, remember:God never gets trapped in the past.Today is still here. And who knows what God may yet have in store? In this episode:Psalm 8 and human potentialRecovering awe and wonderWhy we become blasé about extraordinary thingsAbraham Joshua Heschel on human possibilityWhat it means to participate in the divine natureHow potential becomes a burdenThe pressure to constantly optimize our lives“I am but dust and ashes”“The whole world was created on my account”What to do when you feel insignificantWhat to do when you feel too importantLetting go of regret about wasted potentialWhy God isn't trapped in your pastScriptures: Psalm 8 • 2 Peter 1:4 • Genesis 18:27 • Luke 23:39–43#Psalm8 #JohnOrtberg #Potential #Psalms #SpiritualFormation #Purpose #ChristianFaith #BibleStudy #Identity #Hope

This episode continues the study of the Judgment Seat of Christ, which takes place soon after the Rapture, where believers' works will be assessed for eternal rewards. We explore key biblical passages on this important event, and gain insights into how faithfulness in our Christian life will lead to greater eternal glory, honour, authority and opportunities to serve God. Learn why understanding this doctrine is crucial for a strong Christian life, and how it impacts the way we live today. *There are 4 major Passages on this Judgment for Reward. *1. Romans 14:10-13. *2. 2Corinthians 5:9-10. *3. 1Corinthians 4:2-5. *4. 1Corinthians 3:10-15 *The 3 SYMBOLS of GOOD WORKS: *1. GOLD symbolises the DIVINE NATURE. When were born again, we received the nature of Christ (the fruit of the Spirit) within our spirit (Romans 5:5). So, WORKS of GOLD are produced from the NATURE of CHRIST in us, which we PRESENTLY POSSESS through the New Birth. As we walk in the SPIRIT and the LOVE of God, we produce WORKS of GOLD. Without love there is no reward (1Corinthians 13:3). *2. SILVER in the Bible represents REDEMPTION, so WORKS of SILVER are works done in grateful response to God's GRACE in REDEMPTION, which He accomplished for us in Christ (on the Cross). Our gratitude for His grace causes to serve Him. These works spring from FAITH in what HE HAS DONE for us. *3. PRECIOUS STONES are works of obedience to the commands of God, motivated by a desire to please God, and receive His FUTURE PRAISE and REWARD, rather than the praise of man. *The 3 SYMBOLS of DEAD WORKS (the opposites to the 3 kinds of good work). *1. WOOD represents HUMAN FLESH. These are works done in our own strength (power) and self-will, independently from God. They might look good to man, but they are wood. *2. HAY represents HUMAN MERIT, works done in self-righteousness, rather than in response to God's grace. *3. STRAW represents HUMAN OPINION and WISDOM, works that proceed purely from human reasoning, rather than obedience to God. So, *(1) We must examine the POWER energizing our WORKS. Are we depending on the power of the Spirit through prayer, or on our flesh – our natural strength? *(2) We must examine the MOTIVE for our WORKS. Is it love for God and man? Are they to glorify God, or to glorify ourselves? *(3) We must examine the OBEDIENCE of our WORKS. Do they spring from God's will, or are we just following traditions and rituals we happen to like? What a motivation to live for Him now, doing GOOD WORKS of GOLD, SILVER and PRECIOUS STONES, that will endure into eternity, rather than wasting our life turning out WOOD, HAY and STRAW!

Jesus Shares in the Divine Nature MESSAGE SUMMARY: In this powerful exploration of Jesus' identity, we delve into the profound High Priestly Prayer found in John 17. This prayer reveals Jesus not just as a teacher or prophet, but as one who shares in the divine nature with God the Father. We're challenged to consider: Who is Jesus to us personally? The prayer showcases Jesus' unique relationship with the Father, calling Him 'Father' over 160 times in the Gospels. This intimacy extends to us as believers, inviting us into the very fellowship of the Trinity. As we contemplate this, we're reminded that our unity as Christians is rooted in our union with God Himself. The prayer also reveals Jesus' eternal existence and His role in creation, emphasizing His divinity. This understanding transforms how we view the cross - not as a tragedy, but as our salvation. Let's reflect on how this deeper knowledge of Jesus' nature can impact our daily walk with Him and our relationships with others.   TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, I now take a deep breath and stop. So often I miss your hand and gifts in my life because I am preoccupied and anxious. Grant me the power to pause each day and each week to simply rest in your arms of love. In Jesus' name, amen.    Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 132). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that, because I am in Jesus Christ, I press on toward His goal for me (Philippians 3:12f). “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”. The greatest proof that God is real may be far simpler than most people expect. Zach recalls dismissing his mom's uncomplicated answer about seeing God in creation, only to hear one of the world's leading Christian philosophers give nearly the same response the very next day. You can believe big promises about God and still look in the mirror and think, “It does not look like it.” That honest tension sits right at the center of Hebrews 2: Scripture says all things will be brought under redeemed humanity, yet “we do not yet see” it. So where does faith land when life feels ordinary, weak, or stuck? We land where Hebrews lands: “But we see Jesus.” We start with Psalm 119 and a gut-check about appetite. If God's Word is “sweeter than honey,” what does it mean when we do not crave it anymore? From there we walk through Hebrews 2 and Psalm 8, then connect the dots to Galatians and Romans where adoption becomes real: the Spirit of God in us crying “Abba, Father,” bearing witness that we are children and heirs. Not just forgiven, but brought into the family and made joint heirs with Christ. Then we slow down on what Jesus actually did to make that possible. He was made lower than angels, tasted death for everyone, and paid our debt as propitiation by His blood. He also took on flesh and blood as a kinsman redeemer, felt pain and rejection, and became a merciful high priest who understands temptation without sinning. Finally, we tackle why we keep falling and where real victory comes from: not willpower alone, but becoming “partakers of the divine nature” through the Holy Spirit, escaping corruption and lust by yielding to God's life within us. If this strengthened you, subscribe for more, share it with someone who needs hope, and leave a rating or review so others can find the show. Participating in the Divine Nature: Grace, Peace, and Renewed Thinking

Sunday Morning Victory

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 14, 2026 45:02

This powerful message takes us deep into 2 Peter 1:1-9, revealing how we're invited to participate in God's divine nature through His precious promises. The central theme challenges us to examine whether our understanding of Scripture is producing a multiplication of grace and peace in our lives, or whether faulty doctrines have created fear and confusion instead. We're confronted with the reality that God's divine nature is a nature of faith—when He speaks, things happen. Through examples like communion and the baptism of the Holy Spirit, we see how misapplied teachings can rob us of the freedom Christ died to give us. The message emphasizes that communion isn't about our performance or remembering every sin, but about remembering what Jesus did for us. His body was broken for our wholeness, and His blood established an unbreakable covenant between the Father and the Son—a covenant we enter through faith. When we renew our minds and align our thinking with God's thinking about us, we begin to experience the fullness of what Christ has already accomplished. This isn't about escaping reality through distractions, but entering into our divine reality as new creations seated in heavenly places. The call is clear: let go of limiting beliefs, forgive those who taught incorrectly, and embrace the truth that sets us free.

What does it mean that God “has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness” (1:3)? Does this mean we don't need any outside resources like books or other people? How would you explain this?3. One way we grow and become “partakers of the divine nature” is by hearing and believing His “precious and very great promises” (1:4). What promises has God made that encourage you most? 4. What are some practical ways we can make sure we continue believing and trusting so we keep growing in Christ? In which of these areas do you need to grow?6. In v.8 we learn we should be “increasing” in these eight areas and in our spiritual growth. Are you in a season of spiritual growth right now? Together, they explore what a Reiki massage experience can look like, Kyana's personal path into channeling and intuitive sight, how these gifts first revealed themselves, and the ongoing process of learning to trust, strengthen, and responsibly hold them. This conversation dives into the nuance of spiritual work that may not always feel logical or easily explained, yet holds deep truth for those who experience it. Kyana speaks to the importance of sovereignty, reminding us that the messages she channels are not meant to create dependency, but to guide individuals back to their own inner knowing. They also explore the discomfort that often accompanies awakening, the necessity of stepping away at times to integrate, and the challenges of staying committed to this path.Kyana closes with a powerful message of remembrance, an invitation for each listener to reconnect with their own divine nature and inner authority. Our Unity is Evidence We Partake of the Divine Nature MESSAGE SUMMARY: In this powerful exploration of Jesus' identity, we delve into the profound High Priestly Prayer found in John 17. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, Because of who I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be driven by Fear. Rather, I will abide in the Lord's Faithfulness. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5). Stuart Wachowicz - TVCA1412 - It is not uncommon to find professing Christians expressing the notion that the God of the Old Testament was harsh and does not reflect the love and kindness that Jesus taught. They also feel that there is somehow a difference between what God sought from mankind in the Old Testament as compared to the New. Many believe Jesus came to change the expectation that we would keep His Father's law, and was therefore a kinder, gentler God. But does this perspective match with scripture? Understanding who Christ was before His human birth provides ground-breaking insight into these important questions.

In Emissions of the Divine Nature, we explore the call to become partakers of God's divine nature as the pathway to escaping the corruption of the world. When we partake of Him, our lives begin to reflect the culture of those who dwell in His presence—marked by clean hands, pure hearts, and an ongoing reception of the Lord's blessing. This consecrated life positions us to experience God not just as a concept, but as a transforming reality. The sermon unfolds the attributes of God revealed in His presence, where He gives power to the faint and strength to those who wait on Him. Waiting on God is presented not merely as fasting or inactivity, but as an intimate intertwining of our lives with His. As we lean into God's unlimited capacity, our own capacity is enlarged, enabling us to journey deeper into Him. With new wings to mount up and ascend in the spirit realm, we are continually transformed as we behold His glory—moving from glory to glory.

Welcome to Day 2716 of Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom – Theology Thursday – “Partakers of  the Divine Nature” – Supernatural Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2716 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2716 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Today, we continue with the 15th of 16 segments of our Theology Thursday lessons. I will read through the book "Supernatural," written by Hebrew Bible scholar, professor, and mentor Dr. Michael S. Heiser, who has since passed away. Supernatural is a condensed version of his comprehensive book, ‘The Unseen Realm.' If these readings pique your interest, I would recommend that you read ‘The Unseen Realm.' Today, we will read through chapter Fifteen: “Partakers of the Divine Nature” Do you know who you are? I asked the question earlier, but it's time to raise it again. Yes, we are in the world but not of it. True, we have been saved by grace through faith in what Jesus did on the cross (Ephesians 2:8-9). But that's just the beginning of understanding what God has been up to. God's original intention in Eden was to merge his human family with his divine family —the heavenly sons of God who existed before creation (Job 38:7–8). He didn't abandon that plan at the fall. Christian, you will be made divine, like one of God's elohim children, like Jesus himself (1 John 3:1–3). Theologians refer to the idea by many labels. The most common is glorification. Peter referred to it as becoming “partakers of the divine nature” (2 Peter 1:4). John put it this way: “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are” (1 John 3:1, emphasis added). In this chapter, we'll take a look at how the Bible conveys that message. Sons of God, Seed of Abraham When God turned the nations of the world over to lesser gods at Babel, he did so knowing he would start over with a new human family of his own. God called Abraham (Genesis 12:1–8) right after Babel (Genesis 11:1–9). Through Abraham and his wife Sarah, God would return to his original Edenic plan. God's people, the children of Abraham, the Israelites, ultimately failed to restore God's good rule on earth. But one of those children would succeed. God would become man in Jesus, a descendant of David, Abraham, and Adam. And it was through Jesus that God's promise to one day bless the nations he had punished at Babel was fulfilled. Paul wrote about that in several places. Here are two: According to revelation the mystery was made known to me, just as I wrote beforehand in brief, so that you may be able when you read to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ: … that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, and fellow members of the body, and fellow sharers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.” (Ephesians 3:3–6) For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.… There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is...
