Welcome to Provocative Conversations from Twice Five Miles Radio. I'm your host, James Navé. Unlike many podcast hosts who book their guests weeks in advance, I choose mine from the people I meet as I travel through my days. The only requirement for a provocative conversation is— you guessed it— they enjoy talking about what they love: gardening, writing poetry, tracking down underground criminals in the Philippines, circling 14,000-foot Colorado peaks in a glider, singing in New York jazz clubs, self-compassion, playing the blues, and consciousness—living and dying. So when I met my guest today, storyteller Lo Ziv, at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, Tennessee, and she told me she was a religious scholar, a progressive storyteller, and a software engineer, I unpacked my microphones and invited her to sit down and tell me about God, HTML coding, and why Artificial Intelligence will never replace our species-imperative superpower—Imaginative Intelligence. Lo Ziv's story is one of transformation—from ancient languages and sacred texts to the wild dance of storytelling and code. She grew up in a white evangelical military family and somehow found her way through centuries of scripture, dead languages, and a few living contradictions. Along the way, she taught in prisons in the United States and Romania, worked with children in villages, and stood in pulpits she could not yet claim. What fascinates me most is how she carries the sacred into the everyday—how a theologian, dancer, and software engineer can look at a line of HTML or a verse of scripture and see the same divine syntax. For Lo, the imagination itself is a spiritual act, a way of remembering that the wind—like the Spirit—blows wherever it pleases.

I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2716 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Today, we continue with the 15th of 16 segments of our Theology Thursday lessons. I will read through the book "Supernatural," written by Hebrew Bible scholar, professor, and mentor Dr. Michael S. Heiser, who has since passed away. Supernatural is a condensed version of his comprehensive book, ‘The Unseen Realm.' If these readings pique your interest, I would recommend that you read ‘The Unseen Realm.' Today, we will read through chapter Fifteen: “Partakers of the Divine Nature” Do you know who you are? I asked the question earlier, but it's time to raise it again. Yes, we are in the world but not of it. True, we have been saved by grace through faith in what Jesus did on the cross (Ephesians 2:8-9). But that's just the beginning of understanding what God has been up to. God's original intention in Eden was to merge his human family with his divine family —the heavenly sons of God who existed before creation (Job 38:7–8). He didn't abandon that plan at the fall. Christian, you will be made divine, like one of God's elohim children, like Jesus himself (1 John 3:1–3). Theologians refer to the idea by many labels. The most common is glorification. Peter referred to it as becoming “partakers of the divine nature” (2 Peter 1:4). John put it this way: “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are” (1 John 3:1, emphasis added). In this chapter, we'll take a look at how the Bible conveys that message. Sons of God, Seed of Abraham When God turned the nations of the world over to lesser gods at Babel, he did so knowing he would start over with a new human family of his own. God called Abraham (Genesis 12:1–8) right after Babel (Genesis 11:1–9). Through Abraham and his wife Sarah, God would return to his original Edenic plan. God's people, the children of Abraham, the Israelites, ultimately failed to restore God's good rule on earth. But one of those children would succeed. God would become man in Jesus, a descendant of David, Abraham, and Adam. And it was through Jesus that God's promise to one day bless the nations he had punished at Babel was fulfilled. Paul wrote about that in several places. Here are two: According to revelation the mystery was made known to me, just as I wrote beforehand in brief, so that you may be able when you read to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ: … that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, and fellow members of the body, and fellow sharers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.” (Ephesians 3:3–6) For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.… There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is...

In today's episode, we're unpacking what that really means—how His eternal power shows up in our daily lives, and how His divine attributes challenge the world's excuses

My heart flows Love, Beauty and Joy. This is not how it has always been for me, and for most others, too. There are certainly moments when we are in touch with these traits, yet for most, these are shadowed over by judgment, separation, envy, jealousy, anger, frustration, and the list goes on. A truly healed heart flows with the frequency of Love, Beauty and Joy; it is our natural state and is available to all of us if we choose to tap into it. And most do in moments, or when things are going as they had planned, or something has brought us into this energy space from the external. And, some have the fake it until you make it philosophy, so they have trained themselves to fake it.It is the rare few who actually embody this energy honestly and with integrity.This is indeed Divinely available to us all, and we can at any point in time choose it. What makes it feel like it is out of touch for most is that they live from their wounded heart and conditioned ego (also wounded). They have learned only how to experience and flow Love, Joy and Beauty through the cracks of their heart that have pierced through the wounding. That is why it is more intermittent than permanent. In order to truly embody this energy, we have to return to our original Nature, before the World and others got their hands on us and manipulated the way we show up in our lives.This is not meant as a blame game or pointing fingers at people or oneself. It is simply a product of living in a wounded society, full of wounded people. It is through the healing that we start to recognize the walls that most of us have placed around our hearts are not permanent, and they are of our own doing (not consciously for the most part). Which means that we are the ones who get to release and set these wounds free. They only have power over us if we let them, and the spiritual journey for me and so many others has been to recognize, release and heal these so that we can again return to our innocent, pure Divine Nature. It is always possible, and currently it is easier than it has ever been, and more rewarding than you could ever imagine (from that wounded place). Step one is to affirm that this is the truth: "My Heart flows Love, Beauty and Joy".Once you affirm it, then the next step is to make it manifest, which will reveal itself step by step. The Sunday for the Fourth Ecumenical Council Titus 3:8-15; Matthew 5:14-19 Note: the recording includes a few seconds when Fr. Anthony's mind went apophatic and he forgot a critical detail.  Real life is like that sometimes!   First Council: Nicea in 325 (vs. Arius) "And in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Only-begotten, Begotten of the Father before all worlds, Light of Light, Very God of Very God, Begotten, not made; of one essence with the Father, by whom all things were made:  Who for us men and our salvation came down from heaven, and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man;  And was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered and was buried;  And the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; And ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of the Father;  And He shall come again with glory to judge the living and the dead, Whose kingdom shall have no end." Second Council: Constantinople in 381 (defend the Holy Spirit). Finished our Creed; Holy Spirit, the Church, Baptism, Resurrection, Life in the age to come. Third Council: Ephesus 431 (vs. Nestorius – she gave birth to the man Christ; Christotokos). Jesus Christ was fully God and fully Man. Because Jesus was true God of true God, the Virgin Mary gave birth to God; thus she should be called Theotokos.  Fourth Council: Chalcedon in 451 (vs. Nestorianism and the Abbot Eutyches and the Alexandrian Patriarch Diasocurus (recent robber council) The Fathers accepted the message sent by Pope Leo, which Dioscorus had abstained from reading at his robber Council in Ephesus. In the message, The Pope distinguishes clearly between the two natures, emphasizing the presence of the two natures in one hypostasis. Among the most important conclusions of the Council was that Christ is “perfect God and perfect Man. A true God and a true Man. Equal to the Father in Godhead and equal to us in humanity, like us in everything except in sin. He was begotten from the Father as God pre-eternally and in the last days He was born of the virgin Mary the Mother of God (Theotokos), according to humanity. He is one. He is the Messiah, the Son of God, the Lord who must be confessed in two natures united without confusion nor change, without division nor separation. He was not divided into two persons but he has always been the Only Begotten God the Word and the Lord Jesus Christ”.  In this Chalcedonian definition, the Fathers of the Council re-emphasized the Creed. They also emphasized two other important things: ·      The unity of the person in the Lord Jesus Christ. This is indicated in the “he is one and the same”. The Lord Jesus Christ is One. He is the Word of God eternally born from the eternal Father before the ages, and born from Mary in humanity. ·      That the two natures in Christ sustain their properties amidst the unity of the person. The word became Flesh assuming all the Human Nature except “sinning”, without giving up or abandoning his Divine Nature. Application The Church Fathers chose a gospel to be read in relation to this Council. It is Christ's saying: “You are the light of the world”.  Not just the physical light, but the spiritual light. One of the things that the spiritual light is that we can be full of it ourselves; that we can carry God within us and He can become the light through which we see one another. Not the light of ego or self-confidence; this is a shortcut which will lead us into division (heresy); not the heresy of Nestorius or Eutechius, but the witness of a proud and divisive spirit that actually drives the self and others away from the true light – even while using pious words of Scripture and the Fathers.  This true light is helps us see one another. The Lord says after that: “let your light shine on people so that they can see your work and glorify your Father in the heavens”. This is done not by pious strutting or false humility; but by the way we see and connect with others in the light; by the way we avoid being contaminated by giving in to the dark tempations of the world; and by sharing the same kind of sacrificial light that the Source of Light did when He became perfect man. That is how we can live as a real family with God in heaven as our Father. We avoid sin; and we love one another. This way we can make God's Will come true. The gospel which we heard was chosen to describe the Holy Fathers (whose number is 630) of the Fourth Ecumenical Council in Chalcedon. These Fathers were the light of the world in both their time and ours as well. We abide by their teachings which were handed down to us. By their teachings we are able to avoid the darkness of heresy. Let us be like them. Let them be our example and model, through Christ, who lives in them, that He might dwell in us too. Today, I boldly step into owning my power. We ALL have power that comes from within! We have been taught to play small, to keep this power locked away and be a good girl/boy, be nice, don't be too loud or too much. All of these conditions keep us from owning our power. They keep us in a cycle of playing small and not really showing up as who we truly are. Add to this the fact that we live in a society which has taught us conflicting messages about standing in our power. We are taught that it is arrogant, and that it is tied to things external to us; again, all of these are in efforts to keep us small. At any point, though, we can choose to step up and own our power! So many are already doing it, and it is so beautiful to witness, both within myself and within others. When we come into alignment, mind, body and Soul, we are powerful beyond our wildest (conditioned) belief. We are at a time in history where we are being asked by the Universe ... 'Who are you really?' Some will take the call and step up, be brave and summon their courage to say NO to the conditions and YES to ourselves.This process is all about coming Home to our true Divine Nature and our power.Where will you go when you get the call? (1 Corinthians 6:19) How strange it would be for someone to live in your house and to never communicate with that person. The Holy Spirit lives in the heart of every believer. Is He at home in us? We must learn what it means to be filled with the Spirit. (0946250220) ----more----   The Holy Spirit in Your Life Do you ever talk to the person that lives in your house? On the day you trusted the Lord Jesus as your personal Savior, the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Christ Himself, came to live in your house. That's right, in your temple, in your heart. Your heart is His home now. Do you ever talk to Him? Does He have liberty to? To go and roam into every room and control every part. Is he at home in your house? It would be a strange thing if you married someone and lived with them for 40 years and never spoke to them. That perhaps happens at times and that's an awful thing. But how awful it is to think that some people meet the Lord, and the Holy Spirit of God comes to live inside of them on the day of their salvation, and they live the rest of their life never talking to that Person and never letting that Person talk to them! The Mystery and Reality of the Holy Spirit Now granted, there is a great mystery to the Holy Spirit. In fact, Jesus said in John chapter 3 verse number 8, "The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whether it goeth. So is everyone that is born of the Spirit." The Holy Spirit is often likened to wind or breath in Scripture. And there is a mystery to the wind. You can't explain all of that, but as surely as there's a mystery, friend, there's also a reality. And there is a real person living inside of you at this moment. His name is the Holy Spirit.  Understanding the Person of the Holy Spirit Perhaps the least understood and most misunderstood person of the Godhead is the Holy Spirit. He's not a thing. He's not merely a power or influence, he's a real person, he's just as real as the Father and the Son. Matthew 28:19 says, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." He is just as real as the Father and the Son, and He's just as real as any person here on earth. Acts 15:28 says, "It seemed good to the Holy Ghost and to us to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things." The apostles were saying, "Look, the Holy Spirit is speaking just like we're speaking. The Holy Spirit is working just like we are working." I wonder, do you know the Person that lives in your house? All through scripture, we're introduced to his personality. We learn something about his actions.  The Holy Spirit's Actions and Reactions He speaks. Acts 13, verse 2, He literally spoke. He spoke to the apostles. He prompted them. In Romans 8:26, He prays. He intercedes for us. In John 15:26, He testifies. He's the Spirit of truth. He testifies of Christ. He commanded in Acts 16. He oversees. In Acts chapter 20, in verse number 28, He guides. Jesus said in John 16:13, "Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth." He teaches. John 14:26, He's the great teacher. I'm telling you, He's a Person. He not only acts, he reacts. Ephesians 4:30 tells us He can be grieved. Isaiah 63:10 tells us He can be vexed. They tempted the Holy Spirit in Acts 5, verse 9. They resisted the Holy Spirit in Acts 7:51. Mark 3 warns us against blaspheming the Holy Spirit. He's a real person. He has an intellect. He has emotions. He has a will. When you refer to the Holy Spirit, don't refer to him as an it. Refer to Him as a real Person because that's exactly what He is.  The Divine Nature of the Holy Spirit And He's not only a real person, He is God. He is all God, just like the Father and the Son. We see the attributes of the Holy Spirit all through Scripture, identical to those of the Father and the Son. He is omnipotent, and omniscient, and omnipresent. He is eternal. He's the Spirit of love, and of holiness, and goodness, and grace, and life, and truth. And when you look at His works tell you He's God. Remember, He was there in the creation in Genesis 1. He was the Spirit of resurrection power in Romans 8 verse 11. He is the spirit of regeneration in all of us. Friend, if you're saved today, it's because the Holy Spirit convicted you that you were a sinner, revealed to you the person of Jesus Christ, and made you a new person in Christ. You are born again, John chapter 3, of the Spirit, 1 Corinthians 6 verse 11 says, "Ye are washed, ye are sanctified, ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God." I'm telling you, when you study the Bible, Old Testament, New Testament, anywhere you want to study, you're going to find that the Holy Spirit is a real Person, He is all God, and He is at work at this present hour. And if that is true, I ask you again, How well do you know the person that lives in your house? How much have you come to understand of the Holy Spirit that dwells inside of you? And when was the last time you talked to Him?  The Holy Spirit's Work in Believers His work is a work in our lives. It's a deeply personal work. Now, He has a work in this world. John chapter 16 says He reproves the world of sin, of righteousness. There's no doubt the Holy Spirit is at work in the lives of unregenerate men. Lost people trying to bring them to God. And when we give the gospel, when we preach the truth, the Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of Truth, works in them. Don't miss this. The great work of the Holy Spirit of God is not just in the world, it's in the believer. It's in us. He started working in you on the day you got saved. He regenerated you. He comes to indwell you. 1 Corinthians 6, 19 says, What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? Romans 8, verse 9 says, "But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit. If so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now, if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he's none of his." I'm not trying to get the Holy Spirit. I was given the Holy Spirit on the day the Lord Jesus saved me. He doesn't rent, He buys. And He doesn't move in and out, He moves in to stay. And when He comes in to change me. To make me more like the Lord Jesus Christ. He baptizes me. I'm baptized in the Spirit. That happens at the moment of salvation. He seals me with the Spirit. He sets me free. He gives me assurance. He strengthens me in my inner man. He teaches me truth. He guides me. He empowers me. He enables my worship. He prays for me and teaches me how to pray. He shows me how to serve the Lord. He produces the character of Christ in me. Galatians 5 verse 22 says, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance, against such there is no law." That's the Holy Spirit that produces the character of Christ in us. It's the Holy Spirit, 1 Corinthians 12 says, that distributes spiritual gifts to believers. The Holy Spirit's desire and design is to fill our lives, not just to be there, but to control everything.  Living a Spirit-Filled Life So my first question is, does the Holy Spirit of God live in you? If He doesn't, you need to trust Jesus as your Savior. You need to call on the Lord and be saved, and at the moment of salvation, the Holy Spirit will come to live in your house, in your heart. And if you say, oh yes, the Holy Spirit lives in me, oh yes, I'm a Christian, then my next question is this, "Are you filled with the Holy Spirit?" Charles Finney said, "He who neglects to obey the command to be filled with the Spirit is as guilty of breaking the command of God as he who steals or curses or commits adultery. His guilt is as great as the authority of God is great who commands us to be filled. His guilt is equivalent to all the good he might do if he were filled with the Holy Spirit." My prayer for you today is that you'll yield your life to the control of the one who already lives inside of you. He wants to rule on the throne of your life. He doesn't just want to be the resident, he wants to be the president. He doesn't just want to be there, he wants to control everything. And my prayer for you today is that the Holy Spirit of God, the Spirit of Truth, will be allowed to have His way in your life. How to Respond to the Holy Spirit Would you take just a moment at the conclusion of this study and just talk to the Holy Spirit? And say to Him, I love you, thank you for living in my house. Have the key to every room and take control of my life today. Repeating what other people have said about the Bible is not enough.
