GUEST: Plainsong/Matthews' Southern Comfort/Fairport Convention's Iain ( aka Ian) Matthews. In this epysode of Vinyl Relics, we delve into "In Search of Amelia Earhart", the 1972 debut album by British folk-rock group Plainsong. Blending historical reference with lyrical introspection, the album offers a unique lens on myth, memory, and the cultural echo of one of the 20th century's most enigmatic figures. With exclusive commentary from bandleader Iain Matthews, together we walk through the album's narrative themes, compositional style, and contextual relevance within the early '70s folk revival. Ian offers firsthand insight into the album's creation, intent, and enduring resonance. I hope you dig "In Search Of Amelia Earhart" as much as I do. -Farmer John ===CONNECT & SUPPORT=== Transport yourself into the realm of grooviness by supporting us on Patreon using this link --> patreon.com/FarmerJohnMusic Use this link to follow us on Facebook --> https://www.facebook.com/farmerjohnmusic/ Use this link to follow us on Instagram --> https://www.instagram.com/vinyl.relics.podcast/ Use this link to follow us on TikTok --> https://www.tiktok.com/@vinylrelicspodcast Use this link to follow us on BlueSky --> https://bsky.app/profile/farmerjohnmusic.bsky.social And find us on X here --> @VinylRelicsPod Email me here --> farmerjohnmusic@gmail.com ===THE MUSIC=== Songs used in this Epysode, in order of appearance. This is the last Forbidden West episode for a while. I've deleted it off my PS5. I kinda like where the story might be going, but the game playing is too similar to the entire rest of the first game. It doesn't super inspire me to play. Also, the AOLP feed is on temporary pause I guess, until I do find a fitting game. You can check out the Lokanime Podcast I've been doing with Skeleton House, if you want to keep hearing me talk about stuff in the mean time. Also, the Lokathor Patreon will continue to release episodes even when the AOLP feed is quiet, so no worries there.

Iain Matthews was an early member of the pioneering British folk-rock band Fairport Convention, singing on its first two albums and leaving during the recording of the third one, Unhalfbricking. Since then this singer-songwriter has formed other bands — Matthews Southern Comfort, Plainsong — and released much solo work, including the just-released How Much Is Enough. He has scored some hits — Southern Comfort's cover of Joni Mitchell's “Woodstock,” his 1979 solo song “Shake It”—and says he has recorded about 70 albums total, all projects included. So he has many tales to tell —about the Fairport years with Richard Thompson, Judy Dyble and Sandy Denny and his break from the group; the many places he has lived and whether they had an impact on his music; his years as an A&R rep; and that vocal arrangement of his that the Eagles borrowed without credit. Beim "Plainsong" macht The Cure auch genau, was der Titel sagt. [...]
