This week, Matt goes solo to highlight five common construction mistakes made by Texas builders and offers practical solutions to improve building quality.Ductwork in Hot AtticsPlacing ducts in unconditioned attics leads to inefficiency, mold growth, and energy loss. Builders should relocate ducts into conditioned spaces using techniques like closed-cell foam insulation or innovative Rheia duct systems.Cardboard SheathingFlimsy, paper-based sheathing lacks durability and fails to resist air and water infiltration. Durable materials like plywood, OSB, or Huber ZIP-System sheathing offer superior performance and longevity."Houses Need to Breathe" MythAir leaks degrade indoor air quality and cause microbial growth. Builders should create airtight homes with proper ventilation systems, such as ERVs or HRVs, and incorporate dehumidifiers for moisture control.Poor Stucco InstallationImproper stucco systems fail when exposed to irrigation. Using resilient materials and ensuring proper drainage can prevent structural degradation and water damage.Steel Windows and DoorsNon-thermally broken steel frames cause condensation, leading to damage. Thermally broken frames, wood-clad windows, or triple-glazed options are better choices for Texas's climate.Matt emphasizes sustainable building practices and learning from past mistakes to Know Better. Build Better.™ He encourages builders to adopt modern techniques to improve energy efficiency, durability, and customer satisfaction.Find Matt and The Build Show on the web:Build Show Videos: https://buildshownetwork.com/go/mattrisingerInstagram: @risingerbuild and @thebuildshowTikTok: @thebuildshowYouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@buildshowWebsite: https://risingerbuild.com/ and https://buildshownetwork.com/Save the Date for Build Show LIVE 2025 in Dallax, TX: October 16-18, 2025! Matt and Steve are back again this week in the ROCKWOOL studio to dive deep into advanced tech integration at The Risinger Build, focusing on future-proofing homes. Matt recounts a past mistake of installing obsolete iPad jacks, highlighting the critical need for adaptable systems to avoid expensive retrofits.Matt and Steve also explore practical tech solutions like Sonos systems for home audio and their installation experiences, along with the energy-saving use of heat-generating devices in HVAC systems. The discussion extends to advancements in building materials and practices, such as the use of Rheia duct systems, which offer enhanced airflow control and customization. They also touch on air leakage reduction, emphasizing the importance of precision and teamwork in achieving high-performance homes. Both highlight the ongoing improvements in building science, crediting both technological advancements and collaborative efforts across trades. Here's what you can expect: Key leadership lessons learned along Alan's leadership journey that have been key to his success with Rheia. The areas construction industry leaders could work towards improving today. Solutions for leaders to take to tackle the labor shortage challenge. Leadership challenges on the horizon for leaders in the construction industry. The top characteristics or attributes to look for when looking to promote someone. Leadership mistakes leaders typically make that we should all avoid. Advice for young emerging leaders who want to have a successful career in the construction industry. Get your notebook ready, you'll take away many insightful nuggets from this conversation.
Nigel Watts is successfully bringing the new RHEIA HVAC airtight compact air distribution system to market. Rheia's compact air distribution system is significantly faster to install, located entirely within the home's conditioned space, without using unsightly, expensive bulkheads and chases. Rheia improves comfort and helps maximize efficiency, at a competitive price. NIgel's LinkedIn RHEIA Website Article on RHEIA The Coanda effect explains how air can is thrown into a room from a high interior supply registers across the room to the exterior wall creating more mixing of air within a room. Differences between Bernoulli's Principle and the Coanda RHEIA on LinkedIn
In this podcast, we'll be talking about HVAC and the web application that Art+Logic developed for Rheia. We'll discuss how the app helps store and standardize the kinds of measurements that go into ensuring that a conditioned room gets the proper airflow. Joining this podcast are Robert Beach, from Rheia, along with Stan Bartilson and Samuel Kison from Art+Logic. We'll be discussing the need for more efficient ductwork in new and existing homes, the impact of the pandemic on Rheia's air distribution systems, and the benefits of passing conditioned air through conditioned rooms rather than through hot attics or other unconditioned spaces.

Alan Laing, CEO of the first fully-integrated HVAC solution company RHEIA, joins William to talk about the main challenges currently facing homebuilding cycle times and supply chain complexity, major opportunities for disrupting the industry, and tips for building cross-functional teams to launch a new product.
Listen in to this Virtual Round Table Discussion with Margaret Whelan, Whelan Advisory, LLC and Alan Laing, Rheia, LLC.Historically, in the race for capital investments, residential construction R&D has lagged far behind other industries that have focused more aggressively on technology adoption, digitization, and productivity gains. In recent years, however, housing has become somewhat of a hot ticket—sparking interest from outsiders and frustrated insiders alike who want to be part of the next big idea and transform an industry that’s ripe for change. Unprecedented amounts of venture financing is being injected into real estate technology companies to unlock new market opportunities. With this in mind, how should we think about financing housing innovation today? And, if you have an idea of your own, how can you stand out from the crowd?Note: We will be interviewing our third panelist individually and will share with the community very soon. Insights from Chris Langford, Idea Fund Partners still to come! Support the show (http://www.housinginnovationalliance.com/join-us/)

Oathbreaker is an emerging Belgium band who are jolting audiences with their melding aspects of black metal, hardcore, & shoegaze to create a dark, intense yet beautiful sound. We talk with Gilles Demolder (guitar) and Caro Tanghe (vocals) about their childhood friendship which evolved into a musical partnership through their passion and involvement in the Belgian hardcore scene. We also talk about their groundbreaking new record, "Rheia" available NOW through Deathwish Inc. Birds in Row are a hardcore band from Laval, France. Their roots in DIY hardcore & punk equipped them to travel the underground circuits for the last handful of years cultivating a dedicated following around the world. Birds' desire to be recognized as body of work rather than its individual members commands that only the art they are creating be the only focal point which drives the band above all else. Their latest ep, "Personal War" is available via Deathwish Inc.
In this episode, Rick and Heather talk about Goliath, the newest series from creator David E. Kelley, and Fleabag, a comedy about coping with life and tragedy in London. The band Oathbreaker formed in 2008 in Belgium. In this episode, Caro and Gilles from the band break down the two-part song that opens their third album, Rheia. These two tracks, 10:56 and Second Son of R., were written and performed as one song. Coming up, they talk about how and why their sound transformed from a pure hardcore band to something more amalgamated, and Caro talks about her own evolution as a vocalist and a lyricist, writing candidly about her own past. songexploder.net/oathbreaker
