Today's guest is Rob Curtis who is a client and someone I've known for several years in Wiltshire's small business community. He's a digital marketing whizz now running his own company The Pursuit Agency however I knew him before that and supported him when he was about to ‘go it alone'. He's also a bit like Tigger, from Winnie the Pooh, darting around with boundless energy or so it seems, moving from one idea to another.  This young entrepreneur is incredibly passionate about the world of digital marketing and that becomes obvious when you hear him talking, or when you meet him. Having previously worked for another agency, Rob started his own business, The Pursuit Agency less than two years ago, and has already won the national title of Start-up of the Year with the Great British Business and Community Awards. He's also taken on his first team members and now ensures that his clients understand that they were on a digital marketing journey – not a destination. Rob talks to me about how he uses his love of strategy and processes to help his clients focus on what's important for them, so they don't feel like they're wading through treacle with all the ‘digital marketing' ‘stuff. By talking to both them and their customers, he finds the right solution for them. He also explains how this is something which flexes and changes over time – there's no one-size fits all and things change over time. He makes it clear that this type of PR requires budget and there's no getting away from that. Companies have to be prepared to commit to the power of digital marketing.  Rob also shares how important his family are to him and his success. Telling me the story of how he and his now wife, becoming parents at the age of 19, built a loving family unit from a very young age and how they've both supported each other to pursue their professional ambitions. During lockdown, Rob made the decision to find out if he has ADHD, after several people mentioned to him in passing that he may have that neuro divergence. He was finally diagnosed in early 2023 and he shares what's happened since. Getting this diagnosis has helped his family to understand him and he, himself. To contact Rob:Website: https://thepursuitagency.com/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/robert-curtis-the-pursuit-agency/ If you would like to contact me, you can visit my www.Scottmedia.uk or join my free Facebook group here https://www.facebook.com/groups/prtribe

On this week’s episode of the Event Industry News podcast, Exposure Analytics’ commercial director, Rob Murdoch, joined us to offer a preview of his forthcoming talk at Event Tech Live on Wednesday 6th November. Here, Rob will engage in a panel discussion on the correlation between design effectiveness and data effectiveness. Returning to the podcast for the third time, Rob explained the role Exposure Analytics plays in live events: “We help brands and agencies determine how effective their events are through the use of data and footfall analytics.” Data, as Rob explained, is only effective when people know how to use it. The data that is presented from experiential analytics companies can accurately demonstrate where footfall was heaviest, the number of entries, the flow of visitors and dwell time, among other things. “What our clients are interested in is the truth. Whether it’s a good number or a bad one; they want to know because then they can act on it,” Rob stated, explaining that receiving high statistics is not as useful as receiving high-quality statistics. In terms of using facial recognition (FR) to capture data, GDPR poses several obstacles. “[With FR], we’re picking up personal data. Your face is your personal data.” However, some of Exposure Analytics’ devices can pick up an individual’s mood, expression, facial features and gender. This allows his clients to identify any trends within their audiences: whether the majority were male or female, for example. At Event Tech Live this year, Rob will share a panel with 2LK’s Andy Sexton, VenuIQ’s Oliver Rowe and Crystal Interactive’s Rob Curtis. You can find the full list of Event Tech Live’s educational sessions here. If you would like to feature on an upcoming podcast, please email molly@eventindustrynews.com.

For many years I spent a lot of time and effort planning out my sets for the podcast.  Meticulously going over every mix to ensure they were emaculate.  Well i'm getting old and I just don't have time for that $h!t anymore.  :) Well actually, I've found over the past year or so that I really enjoy just setting up the decks, hitting record and seeing what happens.  I have dozens of recordings from various jams.  Sometimes its with other DJs who stop by and other times it's just me solo behind the decks.  I've started to go through the last few months worth of recordings and pull out the ones that really seem to gel.  This month we have part one of a two part recording I did back in April.  I've trimmed it down to two 1:15 minute sections, though the original was over 3 hours! I will continue to publish these impromptu mixes as I find them. Enjoy! RC

Part one of a new mini series! Yay!   Galvanize is a mini-series that I have begun to work on bringing together the elements of what people are calling deep house these days with the more technical elements of tech house. This intersection has become a cornerstone of the sound that I love to play out at the club these days. Parts 1 & 2 of this series came together quickly and there is close to 2.5 hours of music contained within. The other element to this set is the tempo which has been dialed back to 117 BPM. This slow chugging groove allows all the technical elements of each track to breath and new details can be gleaned that may be overlooked at faster tempos. Enjoy!

This is a special episode for me, a milestone really.  2013 marked the 10th year since my very first release was published.  To commemorate the occaision I have put together the first podcast I have ever done that features a tracklist comprised entirely of tracks by yours truly.  Original tracks, remixes I have done as well as a couple of choice remixes that others have done of my original works. At first I didn't really know if I would be able to pull off a full mix of my own stuff but as I started to dust off some of the old tracks things began to come together quickly.  Before I knew it I had over two hours of music on my hands.  Once I had the basic layout down, I began to do a number of edits and reworks to knit the individual tracks together better and give a better flow to the whole work.  What you are hopefully listening to now as you read this is the outcome of about 20 hours of meticulous editing, re-mastering and tweaking of these tracks to work together as a whole.   My journey as a published artist began back in 2003 when I entered a remix competition held by Release Records out of Toronto.  The track to remix was by Medway and was titled "Trauma".  It featured a cool little spoken word sample by Ice Tea and some really cool stems to play around with.  Back in those days I was still very much walking the line between trance and progressive house and my mix is a wash of reverb tails and big crashy booms.  Somehow I managed to catch the ear of the folks at Release and they picked my mix among the hundreds that they received and released it on vinyl. It seemed fitting that I should start this mix off with the track that started me off.  Over the course of the two hours of music in this mix, I travel in a lot of different directions from the more traditionally progressive to trance, tech house, deep house and even breaks.  Please enjoy this journey through time and sound and help me to celebrate 10 years of releasing music to the masses!
