We're back! Hosts David Klemt and Bradley Knebel tackle two real-life restaurant and bar situations in the first ReFire of 2025.The two tackle the topic of an operator who's hesitant to believe it when multiple employees claim a culinary team member is rude, hostile, and abusive...but believes that team member when they make the same accusation against a quiet but hard-working back-of-house peer. Don't worry - it gets worse! Then, David and Bradley take a look at a stunning, on-the-spot termination of a bartender who had been in role since day one. The restaurant was busy, the bar was slammed, and the word of a regular got the bartender of five years fired instantly. Something doesn't add up!Look, firing someone is never pleasant. However, it's going to happen. Operators and leadership team members need to have standards in place and communicated clearly, a process for terminations, and the understanding that how they fire people speaks to their credibility and reputation.NotesBar Hacks IG:@barhacksDavid Klemt IG:@david.ex.machinaBradley Knebel IG:@sommfabulousguyKRG Hospitality IG:@KRG.HospitalityKRG Hospitality website:KRGHospitality.comEmpowered Hospitality IG:@empoweredhospitalityEmpowered Hospitality website:EmpoweredHospitality.com

Refiring is firing pottery again after it has already been glaze-fired once. But why on earth would a Potter want to do that?! In this episode we discuss what refiring is, and some reasons why a Potter may want to fire their work again. Potters may re-fire their work for example if their pot has been underfired in the first firing, which can sometimes happen if the kiln switches off accidentally during the firing cycle or if the kiln hasn't reached a hot enough temperature. Another reason to refire pottery is if you don't like how the glaze looks after the first glaze firing. In this episode, I tell you about two top tips for re-firing pottery from a potters book by Bernard Leach as well as my two failed attempts at refiring pottery! The book featured in this episode is A Potters Book by Bernard Leach the 1976 edition published by Faber and Faber. -------------------------------*New book: Eco-conscious Pottery Colour is available on the Oxford Clay website here.*A paper copy of Eco-conscious Pottery Colour is available from Amazon here.-------------------------------Resources for Potters:Oxford Clay website resources for PottersPottery eBooksDownload the Free How to Make a Pottery Glaze Workbook (suitable for beginners):Download the Free How to programme an Electric Kiln for bisque and stoneware glaze firings (includes full kiln firing schedule)Pottery Paperback Books available from AmazonVideo mini-courses for PottersOxford Clay blog------------------------------------Get your pottery question answered on the podcast!Submit your pottery question to the Oxford Clay podcast by emailing your question to: info@oxfordclay.co.uk with the subject line ‘Podcast Question'.

George Jerjian is the author of Dare to Discover Your Purpose: Retire, Refire, Rewire. Check it out at georgejerjian.com. George retired after being given just six months to live. Thankfully, his diagnosis was wrong. His retirement though was “hellish”. A former financial advisor, George is now on a mission to help retirees create a plan for their later years which is about more than money. His book shows Baby Boomers that retirement doesn't have to be a disappointment and gives them the tools, confidence, and a blueprint to make the most of later life. George's innovative program is based on his own experience and years of research. In it, he challenges people to DARE to rebel against conventional approaches to retirement and live the life they've always dreamed of. So far in the summer refire, I've talked about how you can create a schedule that works for you, and I've hopefully helped you shift our thoughts from feeling like schedules and plans are boring to seeing just how helpful they are in making it possible for you to spend time on the things you actually want to spend time on. I wanted to bring in this episode, as I 100% believe that it's important for your productivity that you feel enjoyment in your workweeks – not just on the weekends or not just when you get to go on your once-a-year vacation. The topic of enjoyment falls under the WHOLENESS part of the productivity ecosystem, because research shows that when we feel well, when we're happy, we do so much better with everything we put our energy into. And if you have no idea what I'm talking about when I mention the productivity ecosystem, you can go back a few episodes (to episode 31) to get the basics, or read the blog post: https://jennahellberg.com/blog/increase-productivity-solo-business-owner **Giveaway** You can win a one-hour pick-my-brain session with me. You can ask me aaaanything when it comes to your productivity, schedule, work-life balance – anything within the realm of things I usually talk about here on the podcast – and get personalized advice. There are two ways you can enter the giveaway: 1. Share about the podcast with a friend or on your social media, and either send a screenshot of the share to my email jenna@jennahellberg.com or DMs, or share about in IG story and tag me @thejennahellberg so that I can see. In the last summer refire, I walked you through how you can create a schedule that works for you, your life, and your business. For some, creating a schedule might actually feel pretty fun and exciting, BUT following through on it might be hard, or it might feel boring to have your weeks planned out. In this episode, I'll walk you through 8 ways that planning and routines and schedules and structure can make your life more flexible and enjoyable. I'll also talk about *why* many of us can feel like schedules and structure just don't work for us. I thought that this topic falls well under the SISU part of the productivity ecosystem, meaning that motivation is a key ingredient in being productive especially when we don't feel like sticking to plans. And if you have no idea what I'm talking about when I mention the productivity ecosystem, you can go back a few episodes (to episode 31) to get the basics, or read the blog post: https://jennahellberg.com/blog/increase-productivity-solo-business-owner Having structure and routines in place is suuuper helpful in training your brain to learn when to be productive, and when it's ok to just relax and breathe. If we don't have clarity on how we want to divide up our time, there's a risk that we kinda try to work, or think about work stuff all the time, but maybe don't always spend that time productively – and then we feel like we just have to keep putting off winding down for the day. So, let's dive into the summer refire. The conversation and the magic continues with Mr. Kaddoura in this part 2 episode…During this segment of our conversation we talk about a pivotal moment that took place in Maher's life, and that's the passing of his 17 year old son, Hikmat, due to a car accident. Mr. Kaddoura shares with me candidly how he was able to pull himself out of that darkness, and turn that chapter into purpose and light. An extremely inspiring story that will put things in perspective.Nonetheless, in this episode, Maher does not shy away from sharing some of the most incredible and relatable tips on becoming a better person, leader, and partner. His why in life is to create impact, educate and inspire as long as he's breathing, and we are here to be witness and receivers of it! George Jerjian is a mindset mentor to retiring Boomers, and the auther of DARE to Discover Your Purpose - Retire, Refire, Rewire. George discusses what he describes as the caterpillar & cocoon cycle of life. The first stage of life is spent chasing awards, accomplishments, achievements, & money, as you build your little cocoon. The second stage, after the cocoon is shed, becomes the transformation into something new where you can discover yourself. The last thing you want is to be on your deathbed, realizing that you've spent your life following someone else's plans. So the way to prevent that realization is to ask yourself some important questions: Who am I? What brings me joy? What do I want to do? The biggest "problem" as we age seems to be that we find ourselves starting to believe the inner talk - the voice in our head that says we're old and we need to slow down, or stop doing particular activities. We tend to let our "sandbox" get smaller as we age. If we can stop listening to that voice, and just keep DOING THINGS, life will continue to be full and may even expand. You can reach out to George via his website: https://georgejerjian.com (https://georgejerjian.com)

Perhaps you are feeling overwhelmed, lost or just worn out. You’re missing that spark, that fire you had at the beginning of the year. I definitely hit that wall myself just a few months ago and ReFIREment is the process I used to help me rediscover my passion and my fire and today, others tell me how peaceful, surrendered and relaxed I look. If you’ve never heard of the term ReFIREment, this is the last of a four part series, helping you gain your passion back after a season of setbacks. The four steps are:Unplug: disconnecting from external resources temporarilyUnlearn: reevaluating & challenging existing ideas, beliefs and conceptsRest: experimenting with and understanding ways to deepen your restRelearn: incorporating new practices and beliefs to set you on a new path Today, let’s go deeper into step three: RELEARN. And as I’m recording this in early November 2020, it’s seven plus months since I made the decision to unplug to begin this journey. What are my results so far?My life is very satisfying. I have more discernment and boundaries around what is most important in my life. I no longer drift along with the waves of circumstances. I now bless and release negative people from my list of acquaintances. And for a recovering people pleaser, that is a huge improvement in the quality of my life. I have rediscovered my passion for teamwork and collaboration, which have been the hallmark of my career. I’ve realized that I’m not as effective as a lone wolf and how much I love helping others grow and prosper within the context of a TEAM you LOVE. Our monthly business income is now 4x what it was before I stopped working in April. And we’re only scratching the surface of what is possible. This morning as an example, I set a personal record for the amount of deep sleep in a night, beyond anything I thought possible a few months ago. And my body has already released 22 inches of girth during this lengthy process of unlearning. As I enter this season of relearning, I’m excited about what’s to come. ***Other practical resources to help you ReFIRE mentioned in this series:Why We Sleep: Unlocking the Power of Sleep & Dreams by Matthew WalkerThe Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark ComerDigital Minimalism: Choosing a Focused Life in a Busy World by Cal NewportI've Been Thinking...Reflections, Prayers and Meditations for a Meaningful Life by Maria Shriver. Please note that some links above are affiliates: which does not increase the price to you, yet supports our work with a small commission for sharing these resources. ***Catch our next episode next Monday morning. This is Craig Coile, and thank you for joining me today. Do you feel you need a reboot? That is what we are doing to talk about today on episode 45 of Your Encore Life. I have been going through a process developed by Teresa McCloy called “The Realife Process” with my coach Mark Ross. I had gone through several weeks of the process but was not really connecting with the process and felt I was making little progress. When I had a few days to myself in the mountains trying to get back on track, I realized that even though the focus I had was something I wanted to do and will do, there were more important things that I needed to focus on first. So I rebooted my focus and all the sudden the process became much clearer and more motivating for me. The process wasn’t the problem, my focus was the problem. I recently listened to another podcast called “The Begin Again Leadership Podcast” with Winston Faircloth. He had taken a break from publishing his podcast for a period of time and when he returned, he said he needed a new start, a begin again moment which he referred to as refirement. That really resonated with me that perhaps I needed a period of time away to have a refirement of my own. I was also talking to someone recently that I had worked with on a life plan, or vision board a couple years ago. Even though the idea of a life plan is to revisit and revise at least quarterly or sooner if needed, they felt the plan had become stale to them and expressed a desire to start over from scratch. 2020 has been a confusing year at best. When I did a podcast at the end of 2019 talking about 20/20 vision for 2020, we never could have foreseen what it has become. Depending on your circumstances, the events of 2020 may have had little impact on your life or it could have derailed everything you were planning. October is right around the corner and it is a good time to look ahead and plan for 2021. We may see 2021 as a big question mark at this point, but don’t let yourself become complacent and lose sight of your dreams. Now more than ever we need to have a dream to look forward to, goals to set, and a vision for how we are going to get where we need to be. It can start with being still and listening to the messages you are getting. That is what happened to me. For a period of time last month, I was getting messages from sermons, podcasts, things I read, and people I talked to about the importance of being connected with others, about being in community. People who know me a little would think I was a very social person who thrived on being with others, People who know me the best know that I can be introverted. I realized that it is OK to be both and that I can value time alone or just with my wife and family, but that I also need desperately to be in community with others. That has been a challenge in 2020 with COVID-19, but there are ways that you can connect with others through technology. This will pass eventually and we need to prepare ourselves to connect again with others face to face when it does. It just isn’t the same using technology as it is being with others in person. So the podcast episodes that will follow for a bit we will be talking about the importance of friends, connecting to others and being in community. We will also talk about preparing for 2021 with a vision for what what we want to accomplish and a plan for how to get there. Hebrews 10:24-25 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. 1 Peter 4:8-11 8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. 9 Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. 10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. 11 If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. Phillippians 2:3-8 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! In this third episode in the series, Kathy shares an interesting distinction between being a contractor vs a consultant. At its essence, a contractor fulfils a known gap in a business that has well defined, predetermined steps. Whereas a consultant looks to add value by helping their customers to transform challenges into opportunities for progress, often without existing predetermined steps. She points out the consultants are effectively selling transformation to their customers, helping them to move from their current state to a new transformed state. She then points out why someone would want to be a consultant and its appeal to those who want to make a difference, earn income and/or pivot into a new career. One of the biggest mental challenges that most consultants have is how to find enough clients. Kathy succinctly outlines how this can be done and talks about becoming a "Lighthouse vs boat" with the inbound enquirer, and becoming comfortable with using support software such as HubSpot. She believes that this is one area where age and greying hair is an advantage and a worthy consideration for someone who wants to "ReFire". Lasts she councils anyone who wants to consider consulting to look at extensive data gathering from potential future clients and providing transformational experiences in a structured, systematic way (and doing so for yourself, also!)

Germany’s left-of-centre SPD , the junior partner in the governing coalition in Berlin with Angela Merkel’s CDU/CSU grouping, has been at the forefront of a new drive to dampen the country’s residential housing boom, now entering its seventh year.
The big institutional players are all convinced that 2017 will see – yet again heightened demand for investment in real estate. This applies particularly to Germany, whose status as a safe haven has only strengthened as the number of economic imponderables elsewhere have multiplied.
One of the perks of editing a publication like REFIRE is the opportunity it affords your editor to hang out with people who can see into the future. Their relationship with their crystal ball, tea leaves, tarot cards, goats’ entrails or other favoured form of divination helps them steer an unerring path through the most turbulent cross-winds, knowing what’s likely to emerge on the other side.
