In episode 507, Megan chats to Sally Cameron about the process of recipe development, including thorough testing, catering for your readers' needs, food safety and building trust through recipes that succeed time and time again. Sally is a professionally trained chef, recipe developer, online content creator, speaker, and certified health and nutrition coach. She created all of the recipes for Dr. Mark Hyman's NYT best seller Eat Fat Get Thin, the NYT million copy bestseller “The Daniel Plan: 40 Days to a Healthier Life” companion cookbook, and Sony Five Essentials video series. She's been blogging at A Foodcentric Life longer than she'd like to admit. Changing her diet by going gluten-free and focusing on whole fresh foods, lots of plants, nuts, seeds, healthy fats and quality proteins helped her lose weight, get healthy, detox from heavy metals, and recover from Lyme, mold, and gut issues. With all of that, it's no surprise that special diets are her forte, because healthy is a lifestyle. Fun Fact: Sally's fun fact is they did a two week expedition to Antarctica because they like to shoot landscape photography too. It was utterly amazing. In this episode, you'll learn the different steps of developing great recipes and why this is a crucial element to a successful, revenue-generating blog. Sally provides practical tips about recipe writing and revision, including keyword consideration and making the most of flavor profiles. - Definition and Purpose: What is the purpose of the recipe? Is it for your blog or for a sponsored post or a client? - Find Inspiration: Keep notes about flavors, ingredients, beautiful photos and restaurant meals and other recipes that inspire you. - Find the Right Keyword: Before putting effort into recipe testing, research keywords and brainstorm ideas around your recipe (e.g. does your recipe fit within your niche, how is it different?). - Be Creative: Find ways to make it easier, faster and more fun for readers or ways to cater for specific dietary needs. - Recipe Testing and Revision: Test, revise, and make adjustments to your recipes to ensure your readers are able to reproduce it. - Equipment Considerations: Consider readers' kitchen equipment and provide alternative methods for those with limited tools. - Food Safety and Testing: Do a thorough test for food safety, including cooling and storage trials and check verified online resources for food safety information. - Consistency in Recipe Writing: Be consistent in recipe writing, including clear instructions, accurate measurements, and detailed notes for successful replication. Community colleges are full of great stories that represent a diverse student body. How can the college's marcom team find those stories? How can they tell those stories without falling back on tokenism, tropes or stereotypes? Sally Cameron, an NCMPR president emeriti and former vice president of college communications at Bristol Community College in Massachusetts, and Liz Cooper, associate director of public relations at MassBay Community College in Massachusetts, share how they do it. They'll also present on this topic at NCMPR's national conference in Seattle this March.
On this week's show, I spend some time chatting with Professional Chef, Recipe Designer and Health Advocate, Sally Cameron. This was a fast-paced, informative and fun episode where we tackle health topics like: Foods: "Dirty Dozen" & "The Clean 15" and how to know which type of produce is safe to eat and which are not, The risks of living in a toxic world and what you can do to protect yourself using proper foods What Sally learned about Ketogenic Diets from contributing to the New York Times, Bestseller book, Eat Fat, Get Thin with Dr. Mark Hyman What type of tests you MUST do in order to accurately assess the toxic load in your body. The most common thing that people overlook doing when they are looking to detox their bodies She really is a warrior for detox living and has some incredible tips for helping you if you are struggling from the effects of a toxic load or if you just want to make sure you are doing all you can do to help your body become stronger and more resilient from the inside, out.
For ten years Sally Cameron has delighted global audiences as a member of the critically acclaimed a cappella vocal group The Idea of North, bagging multiple ARIA awards across seven albums. Her solo debut release will transfix Cameron’s audiences with her superb festive release, Always Christmas. Today we talk Turkey with Sally and her Fiance Sam (who is another musical genius) about all things Christmas, today's episode is filled with Joy and Christmas tunes.... Ho Ho Ho!!!!
Joining The Idea of North in February 2007 has given Sally the opportunity to combine two great loves – vocal jazz and a cappella music. From 2001-2006, as the lead vocalist and compere of The Band of the South Australia Police, Sally sang and played daily in many ensembles including a rock band, concert band, stage band, and small jazz combo and she also led a small vocal group within the band. Her versatility as an instrumentalist has served her well in the world of musical employment. Besides performing she also currently enjoys teaching and adjudicating engagements. In 1995 and 1996 Sally won the Adelaide Junior Vocal Championship two years running. As an Elder Conservatorium orchestral scholarship student for 1997 and 1998, Sally was able to further her skills as a saxophonist in conjunction with studying vocal jazz performance with the world renowned, Connaitre Miller. Sally was a founding member of the vocal group 'Pure Harmony' along with Naomi Crellin. They recorded and performed together for ten years until 2002 when Naomi joined TION.

Favorite places: Patio (went to lunch with Mom), Boat Slip Beach Club Tea Dance (4-7p) MGH Diversity Statement- came through on my work email and I was so touched by it. Because of diversity we will excel. We think broadly about diversity and everything that makes us unique. It is core to our mission. Our differences make the MGH a more interesting and distinctive environment in which to work and are an important means of providing the very best care to every one of our patients, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, religion, age, sexual orientation, disabilities, life experiences, geographic backgrounds, skills and talents among others. We will not excel without recognizing and appreciating everyone’s perspectives. Through inclusion we will respect. Together we work hard to make this hospital a diverse and inclusive place of healing. Encouraging a broad range of opinions, ideas and perspectives drives creativity, innovation and excellence. Our continued engagement in our nationally recognized initiatives and programs highlights our commitment to diversity and inclusion. But this ongoing work will not be complete until every employee, every patient, every family member, every visitor feels safe, respected, welcome, comfortable, supported and accepted within our walls. Focused on equity we will serve, heal, educate and innovate. Our job is to improve health and save lives, regardless of what our patients or colleagues look like, where they come from, what they believe, or who they love. Issues of equity and justice are not separate but rather intertwined with patient care, education, research, and community health. Targeting inequality enhances the quality of care for all. We believe in treating our patients and each other with the dignity that every human being deserves. Meeting up with new friends at Gather Here in Cambridge, MA for knit night. On a Happy Note I went to see Vertical Horizon’s free concert in the Boston Common with Lisa, and her son and daughter. Really fun night. It was hot but the show was great, forgot how much I loved their music. And we knit! Aila and Will slept over the weekend of the 16-17th so parents can finish some renovation work at their house. Pool day Sat and Sunday! Sunday afternoon went to a cookout at my Nana’s assisted living facility. Knit and listened to the music. Fun! Knitting definitely helped what could have been an otherwise boring function. Aila left Giraffe Mommy- her prized possession- at our house. I came home and found her. Told Kris I’d send lots of photos of GM and me having fun so A would know she was ok. Dinner, showers, reading, made her a tent to sleep in, snuggles, riding the train, going to work. set up her own little office. Went to the craft store and then taught her to crochet so she could make a dress. Aila called Monday night when she got back from a trip with her grandmother, sad about it. Told me all of Giraffe Mommy's favorite things so I’d know. Very sweet. Brought her back on Tuesday. Wednesday night I went to Will and Aila’s track meet where we did a mini birthday celebration for Will before they left for vacation. I gave him the Rhino I had intended for Christmas! Finally scored a sock blank from Andre Sue Knits on Etsy Mom found a photo of a dress she made when she was in her early 20's that she wore to her Bridal Shower.
