"It ain't easy having pals." We watched Young Guns (1988) with our good friend Millie De Chirico from the podcast "Dear Movies, I Love You", and we can give you six reasons why the West was so wild in the 1980s: it's our boys Emilio, Kiefer, Lou, Dermot, Casey, and Charlie. In a time where Western movies were in a dry patch, these young men helped breathe life into a dying genre. Photographed like a hair band music video, we're thankful there were power outlets in the Old West to plug in the hairdryers needed to blow out and feather these manes of 80s hair. We discuss our relationships with the six Brat Pack (and Brat Pack adjacent) cast; if any of us have actually seen the original "Young Guns" or just confuse it with "Young Guns 2"; and speculate what new young cast could possibly work in a Young Guns 3. What does it take to open your home to 99 children — and love every single one of them?Lorraine Howard did exactly that. A certified professional photographer, award-winning artist, mom of 8, and former foster parent to 99 children (102 total when you count her foreign exchange student and birth kids — yes, really), Lorraine joins Monica Samuels and co-host Julie Orcutt for one of the most powerful Moms Club conversations we've ever had. This isn't just a story about foster care. It's a story about what love actually looks like when it costs something.ABOUT LORRAINE HOWARD:Lorraine Howard is a certified professional photographer based in California whose love of storytelling through portraits grew directly from her years as a foster and adoptive mom. After noticing that not one of her 99 foster children arrived with a single photograph, she made it her mission to give every child a visual record of their story. She now donates senior portrait sessions to foster kids aging out of the system — giving them something priceless before they face the world alone.

WATCH THE EPISODE HEREIn this EpisodeHighlights & “Must-Listen” Moments* 0:00 — Another chaotic tech day: An hour of audio problems before the show even begins. The invitation went out to 250,000 people; by the time they got the show running, 16 lovely souls had joined. David was cursing like a sailor off-camera. Business as usual.* 1:56 — Amy's food week: Passover, Easter, cardamom buns, and scrambled eggs: Amy hosted both Passover and Easter in the same week — a double-whammy that was exhausting and wonderful. She made the cardamom buns from Juno Bakery in Copenhagen again (they came out beautifully), and then had a quiet week after that, during which she rediscovered the joy of perfect scrambled eggs: generous olive oil, high heat to start, back of a fork, constant small wrist movements to create tiny curds, then immediately turn the heat down. Creamy, silky, and completely underrated.* 4:30 — Amy's Weekends with Yankee shout-out: Episode two of the new season is out now on public television. Featured recipe: a tomato tartine from Groundswell Café in Tiverton, Rhode Island, right on the Farm Coast where Rhode Island and Massachusetts meet. Available on newengland.com.* 5:31 — David's food week: Homemade Spaghetti Amatriciana and Prime Heritage Pork Chops: David made homemade spaghetti amatriciana from scratch — the first time he's ever run spaghetti through the roller — and the results were restaurant-quality. His version includes guanciale or pancetta, DOP San Marzano tomatoes, a touch of balsamic vinegar (not traditional, but it lifts the whole dish), red pepper flakes, and Pecorino. Then, the main event: prime heritage pork chops from Boardman Bridge Butchers, two inches thick, served simply with salt, pepper, roasted sweet potato, and a salad. What pork tasted like before factory farming. David nearly wept.* 8:42 — ADHD update: David finally has a coach and a PsyD on his team. Progress is being made. The meds remain elusive, but we're getting there.* 9:01 — Introducing Jessica Battilana: Amy introduces their guest — Jessica Battilana, staff editor at King Arthur Baking Company, award-winning writer and recipe developer, co-host of the King Arthur podcast Things Bakers Know, co-author of the #1 New York Times bestselling The King Arthur Big Book of Bread, and author of her own book Repertoire: All the Recipes You Need. She also co-authored Vietnamese Home Cooking with Charles Phan, Tartine Book No. 3 with Chad Robertson, and Baking at 20th Century Cafe with Michelle Polzine — among 16 books total. Amy and Jessica have known each other for two decades, from their Sunset Magazine days in California to Boston Magazine, and ran into each other in line for Bridget Everett at a Boston theater just last week.* 10:40 — The new King Arthur pizza book: Jessica's 16th book, a King Arthur pizza book, just dropped. David has been raving about it on the show. Photographed by Andy Lee; the photography alone is stunning.* 13:35 — Jessica's broken oven (and a sneak peek at her next solo book): Jessica's home oven has been out for six to seven weeks. Making this particularly painful: she's working on her second solo cookbook — tentatively titled This Is What We're Having — due out (hopefully) next spring from Norton. One of the recipes is a banana cake with whipped caramel frosting, which created a bread-bowl-shaped lava situation during testing. The oven is definitely broken.* 16:09 — Q&A: Bread scoring tips from Peter in the audience: Jessica's advice — chill your dough overnight in the banneton, use a fresh double-sided razor blade (not a lame), and score with speed and confidence — hesitation causes dragging. David's tip: hold the lame at a very steep angle to create an ear, and don't be afraid to make two or three passes. Amy's breakthrough: line your banneton with a flour-sack towel dusted with flour before the overnight fridge proof. The cotton wicks away moisture and makes scoring dramatically easier.* 21:00 — About King Arthur Baking Company: America's oldest flour company, over 200 years old, based in Norwich, Vermont. Employee-owned (400 employee-owners), certified B Corp. The campus includes a café, a baking school, and a retail store. They produce roughly 500 original recipes a year, all free on their website. Jessica confirms: it really is as great as it seems.* 23:24 — David's King Arthur confession: The viral NYT chocolate chip cookie article — the one where you rest the dough for 36 hours — was developed using King Arthur cake flour and King Arthur bread flour. The Times doesn't allow brand names, but the secret is out.* 24:03 — Q&A: Best baking advice you've ever gotten? Jessica's answer: practice. Not a flashy answer, but an honest one. You learn something every single time you bake — the second attempt is always better than the first. Kate McDermott bakes a pie every single day and gives it away. Jessica's invented solution to the problem of getting enough repetitions: a silicone bread butt cheek (like the injection-training prop she used during IVF), so bakers could practice scoring without committing a whole loaf. It does not yet exist. Someone should make it. Amy's advice: read the recipe all the way through first. She ignores this about 50% of the time and always regrets it.* 29:18 — Baker vs. cook — is there a divide? Jessica doesn't have a favorite. She bakes bread, makes dessert, and cooks weeknight dinners for her family every night. Her forthcoming book This Is What We're Having is about exactly that — the family dinner, the one meal, take it or leave it.* 31:04 — Jessica's winding career path: La Varenne cooking school in France → Formaggio Kitchen in Cambridge (starting at the register, per her own career advice: “Take the worst job at the best place”) → private chefing → Chez Panisse receptionist in San Francisco (where every shift ended with a staff meal from the previous night's leftovers) → lunch lady at her kids' San Francisco elementary school, cooking for 250 children until the pandemic closed schools in March 2020.* 39:37 — Birthday cakes for every occasion: Jessica's go-to is the chocolate layer cake from Repertoire — creamed butter and sugar, chocolate throughout, ganache mounted with butter — always requested by her older son. For her younger son, who has turned vanilla, she reaches for King Arthur's Classic Birthday Cake: a reverse-creamed yellow cake with an almost-boxed-cake crumb that is genuinely excellent. Also discussed: Chef Zeb's Hot Milk Cake on the KA site (thin, soupy batter that bakes up with a chiffon-like crumb), and the triumphant return of ermine frosting — the original red velvet frosting, made from a cooked flour paste, that KA now offers in both vanilla and chocolate. It's poised for a comeback. Jessica's test kitchen calls it “weasel frosting,” which is not helping its case.* 42:12 — Amy and David's birthday cake confessions: Amy has long relied on Shirley Corriher's ultra-rich yellow cake (so much butter, so many egg yolks — in this economy?), with chocolate frosting for Scott and white frosting for herself. She also loves Rosie's Bakery's All Butter, Fresh Cream, Sugar-Packed Baking Book — particularly the frosting made in a blender with evaporated milk. David is Team Ermine.* 44:48 — A glimpse behind the curtain at KA's test kitchen: Jessica is literally being waved at through her office pod window to come taste baked Alaska for the new general baking book (cakes, cookies, pies) coming out fall 2027. All in a day's work.* 45:27 — Goodbye, Jessica: She's always happy to chat. Things Bakers Know is available as a podcast and a Substack. A visit to the King Arthur campus in Norwich, Vermont is highly recommended.Recipes Mentioned* Scrambled Eggs with Olive Oil (Amy's back-of-the-fork method)* Tomato Tartine (from Groundswell Café, Tiverton, RI; on newengland.com)* Cardamom Buns* Homemade Spaghetti Amatriciana (with guanciale, San Marzano tomatoes, balsamic vinegar)* Prime Heritage Pork Chops (from Boardman Bridge Butchers, New Milford, CT)* Portuguese Orange Olive Oil Cake* Banana Cake with Whipped Caramel Frosting (from Jessica's forthcoming book)* Chocolate Layer Cake with Ganache Butter Frosting (from Repertoire)* King Arthur Classic Birthday Cake (reverse-creamed yellow cake)* Chef Zeb's Hot Milk Cake (on kingarthurbaking.com)* Vanilla Ermine Frosting (on kingarthurbaking.com)* Chocolate Ermine Frosting (on kingarthurbaking.com)* Shirley Corriher's Ultra-Rich Yellow Cake (from BakeWise)* Rosie's Bakery Evaporated Milk Frosting (from The All Butter, Fresh Cream, Sugar-Packed Baking Book)* Baked Alaska (being taste-tested at KA HQ as we speak)Books and Publications* The King Arthur Baking Company Big Book of Bread by Jessica Battilana et al. — the #1 NYT bestseller Amy uses every week* King Arthur Baking Company's Book of Pizza Martin Philip and David Tamarkin with Jessica Battilana — just released* Repertoire: All the Recipes You Need by Jessica Battilana — published 2018* This Is What We're Having by Jessica Battilana — forthcoming from Norton, spring 2027* Vietnamese Home Cooking by Charles Phan (with Jessica Battilana)* Tartine Book No. 3 by Chad Robertson (with Jessica Battilana)* Baking at 20th Century Cafe by Michelle Polzine (with Jessica Battilana)* BakeWise by Shirley Corriher (source of Amy's go-to yellow cake)* Rosie's Bakery All-Butter, Fresh Cream, Sugar-Packed, No-Holds-Barred Baking Book by Judy Rosenberg* Rose's Christmas Cookies by Rose Levy Beranbaum (mentioned by Domenica Marchetti last episode — source of the almond crescent recipe)Where to Find Us* Amy Traverso* Instagram | Yankee* David Leite* Instagram | Pinterest | Facebook | Youtube* Jessica Battilana* Blog | Instagram | King Arthur This is a public episode. The Man Who Photographed Presidents, Rock Stars and History ItselfWHAT DO 11 U.S. PRESIDENTS, the DALAI LAMA and WHOOPI HAVE in COMMON? by Patrick O'Donnell with guest Peggy O'DonnellHe photographed 11 U.S. presidents. But this California photojournalist's 60-year career was about more than just the leaders of the free world. It was also about the evolution of modern journalism and one photographer's quest to capture iconic images along the way.Patrick O'Donnell's journey began in high school, when he caught the photojournalism bug from a master teacher. By college, he was taking pictures for his student newspaper, then working full-time for local papers while still in school. Early assignments included Richard Nixon's failed California governor bid and Eisenhower's 1964 Rose Bowl appearance. So began O'Donnell's front-row view of history. His warm, personal stories take you behind the lens and scenes of inside access chatting confidentially with George H.W. Bush at an event and capturing images of Nixon's resignation day at El Toro marine base.Much more than presidents alone, this memoir follows O'Donnell through adventures covering sports, local events, fairs and entertainers like Kevin Costner and Tony Bennett. We ride along to meet everyone from Dr. "Bee Man" Norm Gary to Groucho Marx feeding grapes to Alice Cooper. The Dalai Lama, Margaret Thatcher and Jerry Brown sprinkle the narrative too.Patrick received a number of awards including the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from the Press Photographers Association of Greater Los Angeles.Part journalism passion project, part who's who of 55+ years behind closed doors, this richly illustrated book memorializes an era when newspapers still ruled - before cell phones and digital film crowded out the dark room. Personal, humorous stories make this insider's chronicle a must-read photo memoir for any news junkie and photography buff.Peggy O'Donnell was Patrick's long time business partner and wife of 57 years.https://www.amazon.com/WHAT-PRESIDENTS-DALAI-WHOOPI-COMMON/dp/B0CVG1G21C/ref=monarch_sidesheet_titlehttps://patrickinfocus.com/https://www.ecpublishingllc.comhttp://www.bluefunkbroadcasting.com/root/twia/31226tba1.mp3

Lea Ypi's new book about her Greek-Albanian grandmother is a philosophical meditation on dignity, a history of Ottoman collapse and Balkan nationalism, and a warning about our own indignant age of manufactured identities and resurgent tribalism.Back in January 2022, Lea Ypi came on the show to discuss Free, her brilliant account of growing up in communist Albania. Now Ypi, who teaches political philosophy at LSE, is back with her follow-up, Indignity, an equally compelling biography of Leman Ypi, her maternal grandmother. “A Life Reimagined” is its subtitle, but it's not just her grandmother whose life Ypi is reimagining. The book is a retelling of the modern stories of Greece, Turkey and Albania as well as a sly backwards glance on the court politics of the late Ottomans. Indignity is a Balkan story, in the grand tradition of Rebecca West. And like West, Ypi shows us that Balkan history is never quite dead - instead, it's prophecy for our own age of resurgent nationalism and manufactured identities. Things don't die in South Eastern Europe, Ypi suggests, they just fester, creating more and more indignity. No wonder the Dracula myth is a Balkan creation. 1. Dignity is what we chase, indignity is what we photograph. Bob Dylan wrote that “dignity never been photographed,” and Ypi iterates an entire philosophical framework around this insight. A 1941 photo of her glamorous grandmother in the Italian Alps sparked the book—but also online accusations that she was a spy. For Ypi, following Kant, dignity is an immaterial ideal we pursue; indignity is the empirical reality we live in. The book oscillates between the two, asking: how do we think about the dignity of the dead when all we have left are degraded facts and hostile interpretations?2. Salonique the Magnificent died in 1912—and took cosmopolitan possibility with it. Leman Ypi was born in 1917 in Salonica, an Ottoman melting pot that was, for a time, considered a potential homeland for European Jews. When it became Greek in 1912, the Hellenization project began dismantling centuries of multicultural coexistence. By the time the Ottoman Empire collapsed after WWI, rising nationalism had replaced cosmopolitan possibility. Leman, an “Albanian” who'd never been to Albania, was told her identity must align with the new nation-state project. The book is a lament for this lost time—not a lost place, but a lost way of being.3. Nationalism is a zero-sum game for dignity. In the world of nation-states that emerged from Ottoman collapse, individual dignity became inseparable from collective identity. To be Albanian meant dignity only as part of the Albanian nation-state project. This homogenizing, exclusionary logic forced people into boxes they'd never inhabited before. Ypi shows how this nationalist manipulation of dignity—promising it while destroying it—ran from the 1920s through fascism and communism. And it's back now, in our age of deportations, border walls, and politicians demanding: “What are you? Where do you really belong?”4. The stoic suicide versus the Kantian fighter—two philosophies of dignity. Leman's aunt Selma, forced into marriage with a German businessman, killed herself on her wedding day—the ultimate stoic assertion of control. “If you see a room full of smoke, do you wait for help or just leave?” Throughout her life, especially during her husband's 15-year imprisonment under Albanian communism, Leman wrestled with this question. Her answer was Kantian: suicide is a betrayal of our moral responsibilities to others. Dignity means staying and fighting, even when the struggle seems futile. But Ypi doesn't romanticize this—Leman's principled decisions often brought tragic consequences.5. Identity is always more complicated than politics pretends. Writing the book forced Ypi to confront how constructed and contingent identity really is. Her “Albanian” grandmother was born in Greece, had never been to Albania, grew up in an Ottoman cosmopolitan elite, and only became Albanian through the accidents of collapsing empires and rising nationalisms. This complexity matters now, Ypi argues, when contemporary politics—from migration to deportation to calls for deglobalization—depends on simplistic, homogeneous notions of identity and belonging. The archive lies; borders shift; people contain multitudes. Any politics built on forcing people to “belong in one place and nowhere else” is both a scam and historically illiterate.Keen On America is a reader-supported publication. Send us a textLast week, we told you about a new rule impacting Canadian snowbirds: if you plan to stay in the U.S. for more than 30 days, prepare to be photographed and fingerprinted at the border. This week, another new rule that impacts all U.S.-bound travellers — not just snowbirds: the American government has announced plans to photograph every foreign visitor when they enter and exit the country by all modes of transport. The regulation is set to take effect on Dec. 26, and will likely take years to fully implement. But the message is clear: if Canadians want to cross the border, they will eventually have to comply with America's facial biometrics program."In select cases, fingerprints may also need to be collected, but only as required to better establish links to previously collected traveller biometric records," the department said.Oh, and your photo could be held by the U.S. for up to 75 years.Joining us on tonight's Closer Look to help explain the new rules is Len Saunders, a dual citizen and prominent immigration lawyer based in Washington State.Hosted by Village Media's Michael Friscolanti and Scott Sexsmith, and produced by Derek Turner, Closer Look is a new daily podcast that goes way beyond the headlines with insightful, in-depth conversations featuring our reporters and editors, leading experts, key stakeholders and big newsmakers.Fresh episodes drop every Monday to Friday at 7 p.m. right in your local news feed — and on the show's dedicated website: closerlookpodcast.ca. Anna Arendt is a photographer and visual artist living and working in Berlin whose images explore memory, silence, loss, and the invisible links between personal history and larger events. Her work often moves between personal, historical, and symbolic worlds, shot in black-and-white to capture places where the past and present meet.Anna was born in the German Democratic Republic and was 24 when The Wall fell, at which time her daughter was two. Her parents were born 1940 in Germany, children of war. Both of her grandfathers had been soldiers, who had been in Poland between 1940 and 1942. One came back 2 years after the war was over, the other one never returned. As a child Anna found a secret shelf that contained photo albums of her family. "It is where I discovered the power of a picture. A picture taken in summer 1940. A young family, my grandmother, her baby and my grandfather in a German uniform. A picture full of contradictions, carrying ambivalent feelings even today."Anna graduated with a degree in Fine Arts and Set Design and then received a one-year grant from the DAAD to study photography at the School of Visual Arts in New York. For 15 years, she worked as a set and costume designer for opera, drama, and puppet theater, collaborating with directors at theaters across Germany and Switzerland.Anna recently published her first book, Vanishing, with Charcoal Press. Photographed mostly between Germany and Poland over 15 years, the work slides back and forth through time like a blood memory. Walking naked through the dark forest, wolves circling, howling. A daughter becoming a mother becoming a grandmother becoming a child. Haunted villages, and souls in jeopardy. The harsh reality of the past merges seamlessly with moments of rapture that feel plucked from a Grimm fairy tale.Photography has now become the center of Anna's creative life. She continues to develop long-term projects that reflect her search for meaning in places marked by beauty, pain, and the mysteries of time. Alongside her artistic work, she also works with disabled people in an art workshop, sharing the joy of creative expression. In episode 260, Anna discusses, among other things:The origins of her photographyGrowing up in East GermanyBeginning to understand her family historyThe fall of the Berlin wall in 1989Being ‘connected to pictures'The importance of visiting Poland and its significance for her familyThe cast of characters in the book, including wolves…….And her friend, who sadly diedAllowing the photograph to tell her what it wants to be (and where)How Charcoal Press came to publish the bookHer collaboration with publisher Jesse LenzHaving a day job and a change of identityWhat she's currently up to in the darkroom EPISODE SPONSORS:CHARCOAL WORKSHOPS. We act like the missiles decide their targets. As if the Hellfire drone strike has free will. But in modern warfare—and in modern narrative warfare—the target isn't a target until someone paints it.Laser-guided munitions don't wake up one day and say, “That guy.” They wait. For a signal. A beam. A blinking beacon hidden under the floorboards. The ordnance doesn't think. It follows. And in our endless info-war of vibes and virality, it's the same. Redditors, TikTok rage reels, MeidasTouch-style echo chambers—those are just the munitions. They're not autonomous. They're reactive. What matters is: Who painted the target? Was it a whisper campaign? A blue-checked influencer who switched lanes? Was it a newsletter, a leak, a leak about a newsletter? Who snuck past the perimeter and aimed the dot? This is the essay. We don't talk enough about the targeting package. The long-range recon patrol who slips behind lines to mark something—someone—as worthy of outrage. Maybe they parachuted in. Maybe they're already embedded. Either way, their job is to illuminate. Then comes the kill chain:Think tank report (intel)Atlantic op-ed (authorization)Twitter thread (delivery)TikTok (warhead)You never even saw the spotter. One day, Trump is the darling of Manhattan media, a beloved caricature. The next, he's worse than Hitler. Bin Laden? Our Cold War asset. Saddam? Our oil-stabilizing friend. Gaddafi? Photographed with Condi Rice's mixtape on his nightstand. Then: all painted. All vaporized.Even Putin was “New Russia” once—mining nickel, flirting with NATO. Now he's an eternal villain, an ex-KGB fascist oligarch. We changed the noun from industrialist to oligarch and thought we'd done analysis.Narrative paints. Facts arrive later.Ask yourself: Why wasn't Obama painted? Or Biden? Or even Bush, in his second term? Naomi Wolf tried in 2007—she practically screamed “authoritarian creep!”—but her dot never caught the beam.Because the paint has to stick. The actor must be ready. The story must allow it.Trump? He welcomed the role. Signed the casting contract. Took the heel heat and ran with it like it was WrestleMania. “Make America Great Again” was a catchphrase, not a policy. It was kayfabe all the way down. He turned politics into wrestling. But who booked the match? It's tempting to believe these men write their own roles. But come on. This is Stanford/Oxbridge season 6: Global Civics. These leaders come out of the same boarding schools, the same land-grant universities, the same think tanks and G20 mixers.Bad actors are cast. Sometimes they audition. Sometimes they're just… available. And when their arc is up? Witness protection, or a tombstone with a question mark. Epstein. Elvis. Tupac. “Is he dead, or just reassigned?”The script demands turnover. You're not going to understand power through a fascism bingo card. Power doesn't yell its name. It whispers. It points. It paints. So stop obsessing over the missiles. #572 In this episode of the podcast, I talk about what it really means to capture summer memories as a beginner photographer. As a parent with two kids on summer break, I know how chaotic this season can get—plans change, weather interrupts, and sometimes my camera is nowhere near when moments unfold. That's why this episode is all about embracing progress over perfection and being present with your camera, no matter if it's a phone or a “real” camera. I share personal stories, like the time I snapped a treasured summer photo with just my phone because my camera was inside, to prove that it's the feeling and memory that matters, not how technically perfect the shot is.KEY TOPICS COVEREDMaking Everyday Summer Moments Photogenic - Raymond urges listeners not to wait for "perfect" planned events, but to photograph daily summer experiences. He explains that some of the best, most meaningful images come from spontaneous occasions—like family time around a backyard firepit or a child enjoying a popsicle—using whatever camera is on hand. The focus is on presence and being ready to document the essence of summer.Developing Practical Habits for Photography: - The episode encourages the habit of always having a camera nearby, whether that's a phone or a compact camera, and provides tips to reduce friction—keeping batteries charged, storing cameras in convenient locations, and using simple accessories. This approach helps cultivate an instinct for capturing unplanned moments and builds a portfolio over time.Understanding and Utilizing Summer Light: - Raymond highlights the unique, dynamic qualities of summer light—golden hour, harsh midday sun, and artificial light at fairs or night events. He suggests photographic exercises to observe and shoot how light changes throughout the day, offering practical examples and ways to train the eye for compelling compositions in any lighting scenario.IMPORTANT DEFINITIONS & CONCEPTSGolden Hour: The short window of time right after sunrise or before sunset when the light is soft, warm, and flattering. It's popular with photographers because of the golden glow and long shadows.Friction-free Shooting: The practice of minimizing obstacles to carrying and using your camera, such as by keeping it handy, ensuring batteries are charged, and having a plan for spontaneous shooting. This makes photography a natural part of daily life rather than a chore.DISCUSSION & REFLECTION QUESTIONSHow can you make photography a more integrated part of your everyday life this summer?Think about a meaningful summer memory—how could you capture it without worrying about technical perfection? In what ways does your relationship to light change throughout the day, and how can you use that to create more dynamic photos?Sign up for your free CloudSpot Account today at www.DeliverPhotos.comConnect with Raymond! I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Wednesday morning, the 19th of February 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start with Obadiah 1:21: "…And the kingdom shall be the Lord's."Then we go to Psalm 22:28:"For the kingdom is the Lord's, And He rules over the nations."The last scripture is Matthew 25:34: " Then the King will say to those on His right hand, 'Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world."The kingdom of God shall never fall! Where are we investing our time and energy? We live in a time when nothing is secure and solid. Where do you invest your money? Where do you go for peace and quiet? What country in this world is at peace at the moment? In 1939, Neville Chamberlain, the Prime Minister of Great Britain, went across to Munich, Germany, to meet with Adolf Hitler, who was bent on conquering Europe then. Chamberlain wanted peace, so Hitler said to him, and I quote: "No more territorial demands to make in Europe." He flew back to Britain. Photographed as he got off the plane - that very famous photo of him showing the people of Britain that he had got a peace agreement with Hitler - No more war. Folks, he had barely said that, and Hitler continued his conquest of Europe and declared war against Britain. Where do we find peace? Where do we find solitude? Only when we meet the Prince of Peace! Peace is freedom from anxiety and war - but the peace I am talking about this morning is your peace of mind, folks. Jesus is the Prince of Peace. In John 14:27, He says: "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." Today, let us invest in eternal things; let's invest in the peace of God; let's spend time with Him.Father, I pray for my friends listening to this message right now. I pray that You will give them Your peace. Peace that cannot be found in this world, peace that will last forever. In Jesus' name, Amen.God bless you and goodbye.

In episode two of our Case Studies season, Just Science sat down with Tim Fayle, Training Capability Lead for IDEMIA Australasia and Chair of the International Association for Identification's Latent Print Certification Board, to discuss the utility of friction ridge detail inadvertently captured via photographs as a valuable and potentially underutilized type of evidence within a variety of case types. While the use of latent fingerprints recovered from crime scenes has been established as an important type of forensic evidence for decades, the increasingly widespread use of social media and other digital platforms has contributed to even more opportunities to garner friction ridge detail evidence following a crime. Practitioners and researchers alike have demonstrated the value of utilizing photographs presenting inadvertently captured finger and palm friction ridge detail – obtained via social media posts, other digital forums, and cellphone data – to identify perpetrators and help bring justice to victims. Listen along as Tim describes several cases where inadvertently photographed friction ridge detail was utilized to make an identification to a perpetrator, the various methods and techniques latent print examiners can add to their toolkit to analyze and compare this type of friction ridge detail, and his recommendations for ensuring this type of evidence is not overlooked or underutilized within future cases. This episode is funded by the National Institute of Justice's Forensic Technology Center of Excellence (Award No. 15PNIJ-21-GK-02192-MUMU).

Photographed by Adrian Pingstone in March 2007. Aviation News GE and NASA to accelerate understanding of contrails The "Contrail Optical Depth Experiment" (CODEX) is a research project conducted through a NASA and GE Aerospace partnership to study the formation and behavior of contrails. Contrails are clouds of ice particles that airplanes can create when they fly through cold and humid air. Persistent contrails are thought to contribute to climate warming. The primary goal of CODEX is to accurately measure the optical depth of contrails, which indicates how much light is blocked by the contrail. In the project, a GE Boeing 747-400 creates the contrails and NASA's G-III research aircraft (a modified Gulfstream III business jet) follows and scans the 747's wake with Advanced LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology to analyze the contrails produced by different engine configurations. This will hopefully lead to the development of engine technologies that reduce contrail formation. NASA Gulfstream G-III NASA's Armstrong Flight Research Center in Edwards, California, operates the Gulfstream G-III aircraft, NASA tail number 804, as an aerodynamics research test bed. Work with the aircraft is funded through NASA's Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate (ARMD) as part of the Environmentally Responsible Aviation (ERA) project under the agency's Integrated Systems Research Program. GE 747-400 Flying Test Bed Since 2010, this former Japan Airlines plane has been used by GE to test new jet engines, such as the GE90, GEnx, LEAP, and the GE9X. The plane is based at Flight Test Operations (FTO) in Victorville. F-15E Pilot Recounts Having To Switch To Guns After Missiles Ran Dry During Iranian Drone Barrage An F-15E Strike Eagle shot down so many Iranian drones aimed at Israel that they ran out of air-to-air missiles. The crew was ordered to continue and use any weapon available, which left the Strike Eagle's 20mm Gatling Gun, capable of firing around 6,000 rounds per minute. Operating this gun is said to be risky with small, low, slow-moving targets. In this instance, the F-15 did not stop the drone. The Airbus Space-Flex galley and lavatory concept. Airbus says the A321XLR features a 4,700 nm range, 180-220 seats, and 30% lower fuel burn per seat than previous generation aircraft. The plane was launched in 2019 at the Paris Air Show. Compared to other A320 family aircraft, the A321XLR carries more fuel, has strengthened landing gear, and includes a revised wing trailing-edge flap for takeoff performance. Airbus offers two engine options: the CFM LEAP-1A and the Pratt & Whitney PW1100G. The first A321XLR was delivered to Iberia on 30 October 2024 and conducted its first revenue flight on 6 November 2024. The first long-haul flight with passengers was on 14 November 2024, from Madrid to Boston. HT2076 - It's Been Photographed Before I know photographers who are hesitant to do something that's been done before, but it occurs to me that there is a premise behind that reaction that is not necessarily true. The premise is that the virtue lies in the subject itself, not in the experience had.

Missouri woman Cassidy Rainwater was down on her luck in 2021. She told family that she was staying with an acquaintance, James Phelps, until she could get back on her feet, When Cassidy's family could not get in touch with her, they called in a welfare check. Police went to James' home and he told authorities that Cassidy had left in July 2021 to move to Colorado. Soon after Cassidy disappeared, an anonymous tip was sent in to the FBI. The tipster said that there were photos of Cassidy on the dark web. In the images, Cassidy could be seen being held captive in a cage. James Phelps and a friend of his, Timothy Norton, would end up being arrested for Cassidy's murder. The men attacked Cassidy while she was sleeping and ended up dismembering her body. Packages of her flesh were found in a freezer and had the date ‘July 24;' written on them. The old adage that 'a picture is worth a thousand words,' was never truer than when faithful Christians told stories of injustices, not with words, but through photos. At a time when photography was new technology used more for entertainment, Alice Seeley Harris, an English missionary, documented the horrors of human rights abuses in the Congo under the regime of King Leopold II of the Belgians. Children and adults with limbs cut off as punishment. Thousands of miles away, Jacob August Riis, a Denmark native, was exposing the squalid conditions of New York City neighborhoods. On this episode of Lighthouse Faith podcast, best-selling author Christina Stanton delves deeper into their stories that she first told in an article published last year, "Capture This: How Christians Used Cameras To Expose Injustice." What's disheartening about Riis and Harris' stories is how over the years secular media has ignored their Christian faith, even while honoring their work. Yet, it was their faith that compelled them to expose grave injustices at the turn of the century in parts of the globe that had been forgotten by Western culture, even when it was in their own backyards.
