This is it! The first podcast of 2015 and also the first podcast that I mixed live! Amazingly enough my laptop was able to able to handle both Serato and Audition and I was able to handle (somewhat) the mixing and talking at the same time. Definitely stumbled over myself a few times but hopefully the mistakes adds some humanity and facilitates a more full communication of the moment. Either way, it was super fun. Made for much more of a performance feel which for me is awesome. One day I hope to actually broadcast live but I have some technical challenges to work out first eg. how to do real time noise reduction, compression, and side chain ducking. If only I had a PhD in audio, not mechanical, engineering. Now because I was a bit overwhelmed during parts of this recording I forgot to say some stuff. So, here is the list of corrections, clarifications, and additions to my commentary on this podcast.- For the second track, I extolled this duo from Seattle but forgot to mention their name, Odesza.- On the third track, I don't think I made it all that clear that Dirtybird is the record label. That label is run by Justin Martin and Claude von Stroke- I wanted to mention that Mant is on MTA Records out of the UK. MTA is better known to me as the home of some amazing drum and bass artists. Lately of particular interest would be Kove and Dimension. Dimension is absolutely killing it right now.Another announcement (which I may have mentioned already), all of the podcast episodes have finally been moved from the old blogspot site to the new (ish) site. I wish I could also have brought over the tens of thousands of views that site had for the counter but whatever, we'll get there again.Along with all the old episodes being up, I have also finally gotten the Podcast Index cleaned up and posted. Now you can see, in one text file, all the songs that have featured on the podcast.I know this is getting long but one more thing. I finally got Spotify. I'm very conflicted about it but it appears that with the death of the SXSW Torrent, Spotify is the only way I am going to be able to efficiently go through all the showcasing artists. So, if you want to follow the progress you can follow me on Spotify at ActiveListener. Thanks for listening and don't forget to support the artists,Aaronwww.activelistenerpodcast.comTracklist (These are links to buy the tracks)1.Kudausheby Afriquoi on Kudaushe2.Say MyName (ft. Playing catchup this morning, I'm finally serving up the second set of Pride 2013 EDM. For those that haven't quite figured it out yet, this and it's companion set Pride 2013 v1 are comprised of some of the best in electronic dance so far this year coupled with brand-spanking numbers hand-picked by your humble host as surefire winners this summer season. I closed it out with two of my current favorite songs, which by all accounts are laid-back and breezy. I had posted the video for Chris Malinchak's So Good To Me several weeks ago and decided to drop in the slightly punchier Steve Smart & Westfunk Mix and then tapped it off with Easy by Mat Zo & Porter Robinson. If the latter name sounds familiar, it should. Porter's Language was my pick for one of the best songs from 2012. Here, he and Mat deliver a carefree song that will win over even the staunchest anti-EDM detractor. They do need to give credit where it's due; the song relies very heavily on a familiar synth rip that if you're a song history buff like me strikes a very similar chord to Steve Winwood's While You See a Chance (one of my all-time favorite tracks), which is probably why I was so drawn to it. However, I don't judge; a good riff is a good riff when used to create your own song. Next up, I'll be serving up a set geared towards my circuit boyz and that one is a MONSTER! I previously posted on Facebook that I wanted to break something after my first take and after previewing the end result, I was dead-on (though managed to restrain myself breaking anything LOL). At the end of the week, I've got a delightful throwback to Hi NRG classics and anthems for the true diehard Pride enthusiast amongst us. That's it for now and until my next post …ENJOY! In den UK-Charts klettert ein Hit kräftig nach oben: "So Good To Me" von Chris Malinchak könnte heuer DER Sommerhit werden!
Teri Tobin returns to the Neo Soul Show to chat with Q-man and T. Mitch about her new album "So Good To Me", her summer performances and "cheesecake". The big introduction finally returns also!!
Born on Valentine’s Day, this Arizona-born songstress, songwriter & producer had sounds of soul music flowing through her veins at an early age. While voice training in those days started at her grandmother’s church, her professional singing career began as a child when she was chosen to sing background vocals for the legendary Jeffrey Osborne, and for the Rock Band Yes. The former beauty pageant winner decided long ago that music was her true passion and has set her sights on her dream ever since. While studying classical voice at Howard University, Tobin gained stage experiences performing with the school’s Chorale in which during President Clinton’s Inaugural Gala on the National Mall, performing background for Diana Ross, Whitley Phipps, and shared the stage with Patti LaBelle, Luther Vandross, Shai and many others. Having performed demos and background vocals for artists such as Joe, Chico DeBarge, Coolio, Chante Moore, Korea-based Uptown, Coco Lee and Mica Paris has prepared her for her moment to shine as a solo artist. Although most of her influences are male singers like Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, Marvin Gaye, Prince, and Donny Hathaway, Tobin is reminiscent of the sultry sounds and richness of R&B or Jazz singers of yesterday. Teri Tobin independently released her critically acclaimed debut LP, LOVE INFINITY, spring 2011. Since then, she has released her first Christmas EP, CHRISTMAS CHILD. Tobin's music can be heard on radio stations worldwide as well as countless podcasts, DirecTV, and on select airlines In-Flight. Her international hit-single "Free" remained at the #1-spot for continuous weeks on various charts in the United Kingdom and The Netherlands. Tobin, SoulTracks 2011 Readers' Choice Awards and Independent Music Awards Nominee, is currently touring select cities in the U.S. with her "Love&Sōl LIVE" concert series which kicked-off at the legendary Roxy Theatre in December. On Valentine's Day 2012, she released the title track and first single "So Good to Me" feat. Morris Alan from her forthcoming sophomore full-length album entitled, SO GOOD TO ME scheduled for release June 2012. Tobin punctuates each line with heart and soul, speaking to every generation with each melodic phrase.
