This time we invite an Polish Rave Scene legend - Mic Ostap. One of the most characteristic and experienced Dj’s in Poland. Born, raised and living in center of Warsaw. He began his active interest in electronic dance music by visiting the cult club Filtry, and quickly started to perform as a dj (then as DJ MIC) on legendary parties in clubs Alfa, Hybrydy and Trend. In 1995 he travels to Berlin to buy vinyl for the first time. Inspiration from that city has a major influence on the course of his further musician path. Since then he performed regularly in every major Warsaw clubs and places connected with spontaneous and uncontrolled dance. He has also played abroad Poland on the Boomerang festival in Bratislava in Slovakia, took part in Red Bull Academy in Dublin in 2000 and played on the Techno Parade in Paris, in Berlin Kreuzberg and in underground places of London’s Shoreditch. Tell us about! A: Well, I’ve been around for quite a while now, that’s right. Thanks a lot for inviting me. This show is a really great idea! Just a little frustrating as 1h is definitely way too short to select all I would have love to. In the end, my mix can sound a little messy now with a lot of crossovers but that’s actually what happened to me in the 90’s. There wasn’t so much cleavages back then and I literally took all this stunning music in the face pretty much at the same time. I’ve been lucky my parents raised me being curious and open minded about every form of art. It’s essential i think, I definitely wouldn’t be the artist I am now without this mixed influences. Q: You´re DJ and producer for over 2 decades now. Is there anything you haven´t reached yet? A: I’ve actually been further than I ever expected. That’s maybe why I still enjoy my job so much by now. I don’t put too much pressure on myself anymore, I’m just doing what I love and that’s very fine. I’m lucky to release my music on great labels and tour the world every weekends, let’s say I’m a happy man. Q: You just release an EP on Crosstown Rebels. Which further projects are scheduled? A: I’ve been spending a lot of time in studio lately. I’ve remixed one track from Eric Sneo’s last album which had been released on Tronic last week. A remix of a track from you (Marc DePulse & Several Definitions – “Amphibia”) which will be released on Definition Music on the 7th July. I made a track in collaboration with Nakadia which will be released on Bedrock on the 14 july. Another collab track with DFTKX which will be released on Suara this summer. I’ve also remixed Sian’s “Camouflage” track which will be released on Octopus this summer. And I have just signed a three tracker EP I did in collaboration with Bastian Bux on Bedrock again. This will be released on the 15 august. That’s pretty much where I am now – stay tuned for more.
