BAD SPEAKERS PODCAST EPISODE 180 | F.I.L.A. FEATURING LIL SCRAPPY

Bad Speakers Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 26, 2025 75:26

On this episode of “Bad Speakers TV,” Ya Boi Shad and G. Downs sat down with the self-proclaimed prince of the South, Lil Scrappy. Lil Scrappy shared his life story, starting with his upbringing in Atlanta, Georgia, with his grandparents. Later, he moved in with his mother, unaware that he would stay with her for the rest of his adolescence. After relocating to a more urban area with his mother, Lil Scrappy faced challenges with kids who were more advanced than him. He also spoke about his mother's drug dealing, pimping, and hustling activities, including hiding money in various locations. Lil Scrappy's journey into hip-hop began when he started writing music at the age of 10. With his mother's financial support he engaged in activities like photo shoots and CD printing to promote his music. A pivotal moment came when Lil Scrappy met Lil Jon and signed with BME Records after his hit song “Head Bussa” became a local sensation. He also recounted how he secured a record deal for the Atlanta group Crime Mob by simply mentioning the group to the record label. Lil Scrappy discussed the success of his hit single “Knuck If You Buck” and how he felt compelled to jump on the record. He also spoke about the breakup of Crime Mob and the reasons behind it. Lil Scrappy shared his early hit “No Problems” and mentioned his first album as a joint effort with the group Trillville. He also talked about the tension he faced when he wanted to collaborate with hip-hop icon and mogul 50 Cent. Lil Scrappy described 50 Cent's personality and how he offered financial assistance during a difficult time when Lil Scrappy needed mouth reconstructive surgery. He also discussed his hit single “Money in the Bank” and how it led to a residuals deal with the WWE. The WWE named one of their pay-per-views after the song, and Scrappy continues to receive money from them to this day. He then talked about signing with Ludacris and how the deal didn't work out in the long run. He also discussed the hit single “Bang” by Young Jeezy featuring Scrappy and T.I. and how the song came about. There was also an unreleased video for the song. He spoke about Kanye West and his recent rent situation, explaining why he understands some of Kanye West's statements. He also discussed how he earns money from the hit single “Buy You a Drink” by T-Pain and Young Joc because they used the song's money in the bank. He also talked about dating Amanda Seales. He also discussed Love and Hip Hop Atlanta, explaining his decision to join the show and how the opportunity arose. He addressed the authenticity of the show, delving into the viral episode where he and Stevie J engaged in a fight. Additionally, he shared insights into his relationship with his baby mom, Erica, and his interactions with other cast members on the show. He talked about his podcast and his top five Atlanta rappers of all time, including who he currently listens to and his current interests in hip-hop. Finally, he discussed his brief stint as a wrestler and his desire to do it again, but this time with the WWE. https://www.youtube.com/c/BadSpeakersTV https://www.instagram.com/badspeakerspodcast https://www.tiktok.com/@badspeakerspodcast https://twitter.com/BadSpeakers https://www.facebook.com/badspeakerspodcast

Some people turn lemons into lemonade, and others turn... immortal dummies into magic shows. Optimism is the point here, and optimism will land your ass right in jail. Today we've got ATHF co-creator Dave Willis chiming in on Dummy Love, a fun exploration by the Aqua Teen guys into horror tropes. We're learning how T-Pain and Josh Homme got involved in this episode, we're finding out the original plan for the Skulldilocks book, and marveling at a non-proscenium shot in ATHF. Other topics discussed include T-Pain's autotune mastery (and why he doesn't need it), being upset that 10,000 BC isn't about man-on-mammoth love, a brand new and highly affordable Meatwad ringtone, and we're hearing from an old... well, not so old friend.   • AQUA TEEN EPISODE RANKING FORM: https://forms.gle/1qAH58xekfDHaV1r6   References: ♫ Usher - Love in This Club (ft. Broken Record with Rick Rubin, Malcolm Gladwell, Bruce Headlam and Justin Richmond

DJ Drama is one of the most iconic mixtape DJs of all time. His legendary Gangsta Grillz tapes helped propel artists like T.I. and Young Jeezy to stardom. His classic Dedication series reinvigorated Lil' Wayne's career in the early and mid-2000s. By 2007, the underground mixtape market was booming. But in January of that year DJ Drama and his longtime business partner Don Cannon were arrested by federal agents and charged with bootlegging and racketeering. The much publicized raid only boosted DJ Drama's profile. In the years since, DJ Drama has built a successful record label and he's continued to make mixtapes. Tyler The Creator even crafted his latest album, Call Me If You Get Lost, with DJ Drama's classic adlibs all over it. It won the Grammy for best rap album in 2022. That same year though, while DJ Drama was professionally at the height of his success, personally he was battling an addiction to opioids—an ongoing struggle he's only recently started to talk about publicly. On today's episode Leah Rose talks to DJ Drama about how he got sober after being what he calls “a functioning junkie” who spent six figures a year on opioids. He also tells the story of how Lil Jon recorded his iconic “gangsta grillz” drops in Drama's laundry room. And Drama explains why he decided to sign Lil Uzi Vert and Jack Harlow to his Atlantic Records imprint, Generation Now. You can hear a playlist of some of our favorite DJ Drama songs HERE.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Jay Jenkins, known by his stage name Jeezy (or Young Jeezy), is an American rapper who signed to Def Jam Records in 2004 and has never shied away from talking about his life in his music. But for this Grammy-nominated, BET Award-winning, platinum-selling hip-hop artist, this next project might be his most personal. With the release of his new book, 'Adversity for Sale: Ya Gotta Believe" - Jeezy reveals his difficult path from the Atlanta streets to the top of the Billboard charts to help other up & comers succeed despite all odds. Jeezy is an iconic rapper with raw lyrical talent and unwavering discipline. He is credited, along with fellow Georgia-based rappers T.I. and Gucci Mane, for helping to pioneer and popularize trap music for a mainstream audience. Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, he emerged as a prominent figure in the hip hop scene, captivating audiences with his unique storytelling and street smarts. His major label debut, Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101, was released the following year and debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200, selling 172,000 copies in its first week and receiving platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). In 1998, he launched the label imprint CTE World (then known as Corporate Thugz Entertainment). Aside from his solo career, Jeezy is the de facto leader of the southern hip hop group United Streets Dopeboyz of America (U.S.D.A), and is a former member of the Bad Boy Records' rap group Boyz n da Hood.  @jeezyofficial  began his music career in 2001 as Lil J with the release of Thuggin' Under the Influence (T.U.I.) but has since has released TEN studio albums which contained numerous successful singles, including the top five hit "Soul Survivor" (featuring Akon), as well as the top 40 hits "I Luv It", "Go Getta" (featuring R. Kelly), and "Put On" (featuring Kanye West). In addition, Jeezy has also been featured on numerous hip hop and R&B hit singles, including "Say I" by Christina Milian, "I'm So Paid" by Akon, "Hard" by Rihanna and "Love in This Club" by Usher, with the latter reaching number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 2008. With chart-topping albums like "Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101" and "The Recession," Jeezy remains an influential force in the music and hip hop industry. Beyond his music, his philanthropy and entrepreneurial ventures reflect a commitment to inspiring positive change in his community. -- Like this episode? Watch more like it
