The Lakers and Rockets met once again on Wednesday night in a crucial game in the Western Conference. The Lakers started on what could be the toughest road trip of the season—their first stop...in Houston for game one of two straight games against the Houston Rockets. A second-half adjustment by JJ Redick had constant double-teams on Kevin Durant, which helped LA to force 22 turnovers. And despite scoring only four points in the first eight minutes of the fourth quarter, the Lakers were able to come up with a late-game run keyed by Luka Doncic (36 points), Deandre Ayton (7 points, 11 rebounds), and Marcus Smart (a dagger three late in the fourth) to get an important Western Conference victory, 100-92 over the Rockets. The Lakers continued their march to the last quarter of the season with a matchup in the Mile High City as they faced off against the Denver Nuggets. But after falling behind 11-0 early and losing Deandre Ayton right after with knee soreness, the Lakers found themselves constantly fighting an uphill battle, getting to within three or four points, then letting Denver go on a big run. A final quarter surge got the Lakers to within one, but another last-minute series of miscues on both sides of the ball as the Lakers ended up witha fake comeback in a 120-113 loss to the Nuggets. The Lakers continued their brief homestand with a matchup against another struggling team, the New Orleans Pelicans. The Lakers celebrated Luka Doncic's birthday with a trip to the Bay Area as they ended the mini road trip in the confines of the Chase Center with a contest against the Golden State Warriors. And with a depleted Golden State roster on tap, the Lakers gave Luka a great present with an efficient LeBron James (22 points, 9 assists 7-13 shooting) and Austin Reaves (18 points 7-11 overall), a productive bench with Luke Kennard and Jake LaRavia (a combined 31 points on 7-13 from three), and the birthday boy himself (26 points, 8 assists on 9-17 from the floor) blew out the Golden State candles himself putting the finishing touches with a hot streak from three to start the second half as the Lakers cruised to a lead more than thirty points and finished up with an easy 129-101 victory over the Warriors. The Lakers and Celtics renew their rivalry as the hated green team from Beantown made their way to LA on Sunday Afternoon. The Lakers get a start to the second part of the season with a matchup against cross-town rival, the LA Clippers. The Lakers offensively came out hot in the first quarter, holding a 41-27 lead. But the Clippers in the second half went on a 17-1 run that put them ahead until a fourth quarter surge brought the Lakeshow in front. The NBA Trade Deadline has passed, and the Lakers look to finish their season strong as they come back home from the Grammy Trip, as they played host to the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday night. And with Luka leaving in the first half with a hamstring issue, Austin Reaves (35 points in 25 minutes) kept the Lakers in the game, leading into a fourth-quarter charge with LeBron James (17 points, 10 assists) propelling the Lakers to a lead, and the team doing just enough defensively to hold off a comeback from Philadelphia as LA gets the 119-115 victory over the Sixers. The Lakers FINALLY finished off the Grammy trip with a stop in Brooklyn to face New York's other team, the Brooklyn Nets. And in Brooklyn, the long-awaited return of Austin Reaves (15 points) sparked the Lakers as they set the pace early, hitting 15 of their first 18 shots, to take a 45-23 lead after the first quarter. The Lakers from there put their up-tempo offense (31-18 on fast break points over the Nets) on cruise control with LeBron James (25) and Luka (24) leading the way in an easy 125-109 victory in Brooklyn.
