In this episode of the Ecomm Breakthrough Podcast, host Josh Hadley, an ecommerce entrepreneur who has scaled his brand to eight figures, shares nine mental frameworks for hiring senior-level managers. Drawing from over a decade of experience, Josh covers key principles including trusting your gut, starting the hiring process early, looking for clear green flags, using contractor trial periods, ensuring culture fit, verifying a track record of success, staying genuinely excited about candidates, accepting minor imperfections, and learning from hiring mistakes. His goal is to help ecommerce entrepreneurs make smarter hiring decisions and avoid costly errors.Bullet Points:Importance of trusting gut feelings in the hiring processStarting the hiring process early to avoid rushed decisionsIdentifying clear positive indicators (green flags) in candidatesUtilizing contractors or consultants for initial trial periodsEnsuring alignment of personality and company cultureVerifying candidates' patterns of career success and technical competenceFeeling genuine excitement about potential hiresAccepting imperfections while avoiding overanalysisGaining experience and learning from hiring mistakesDeveloping a comprehensive approach to hiring senior leaders in ecommerceTimestamps:00:00:00 Introduction to Hiring FrameworksJosh Hadley introduces the nine mental frameworks he uses before extending a job offer for senior-level roles in his business.00:01:05 Framework 1: Gut FeelingTrust your intuition and gut feeling about a candidate, as it's often the most reliable indicator of a good hire.00:03:15 Framework 2: Start Hiring EarlyBegin the hiring process as soon as possible to attract a large pool of applicants, aiming for 1000 per position.00:04:20 Framework 3: Don't Succumb to Business PressureAvoid letting the immediate needs of the business force you into making a hasty or less-than-ideal hiring decision.00:06:18 Framework 4: Look for Green FlagsA-level talent consistently presents "green flags" in their case studies and interviews; a lack of them is a red flag.00:07:28 Framework 5: Use Contractors FirstHire new team members as contractors for 30-90 days to prove their fit before committing to a W-2 employee.00:09:26 Framework 6: The Three CheckboxesEnsure candidates are a personality fit, align with core values, and have a proven pattern of success in their career.00:12:33 Framework 7: Be Excited About the HireIf you have to convince yourself to hire someone, it's a warning sign. You should be genuinely excited about them.00:13:33 Framework 8: Accept ImperfectionsNo candidate is perfect. Ask yourself if you would regret not hiring this person, despite their minor, non-deal-breaking flaws.00:14:39 Framework 9: Get Experience Through RepsYour ability to recognize and hire A-level talent will improve with practice, so don't be afraid to make mistakes.Links and Mentions:Hiring Process"Gut Feeling / Intuition": "00:02:09""Hiring Process Timing": "00:03:15""Case Study Evaluation": "00:06:18""Contractor/Consultant Hiring": "00:07:28"Assessment Tools and Methods"Culture Index": "00:10:22""Core Values Assessment": "00:11:15""Pattern of Success Evaluation": "00:12:33"Hiring Concepts"Excitement for Hire": "00:12:39""Flaws vs. Deal Breakers": "00:13:33""Experience in Hiring": "00:15:38"Conclusion"Conclusion": "00:15:38"Transcript:Josh Hadley 00:00:00 Today, I'm going to share with you the nine different frameworks that I use before extending an offer to somebody that I'm about to hire in the business. Welcome to the Ecomm Breakthrough Podcast. I'm Josh Hadley. I've scaled my own ecommerce brand from 0 to 8 figures, and I'm actively building towards nine figures in sales. This podcast is where I document that journey and share the systems, the strategies, and the lessons learned in real time so that you can learn what actually matters and scale your own business. My name is Josh Hadley. First and foremost, I am a man of faith. I am a husband to a beautiful wife and the father of four children. I have been selling in the e-commerce space for over a decade, doing $20 million a year annually and selling multi-millionaire on Amazon, TikTok, shop and Shopify. I'm also the host of the number one business strategy podcast for ecommerce entrepreneurs, and that's E-com breakthrough. Today, I'm ultimately just going to share with you something that's on top of my mind as I'm looking to add some senior level managers and leaders into my business right now.Josh Hadley 00:01:05 And to be honest with you, I've gone through like multiple different people that I've been considering extending some invitations and offers to come join the business. However, I've come back full circle and I've decided that none of them are the right fit. And so I want to walk you through the different frameworks that I use. There's nine different ones to help me come to this realization that, hey, honestly, this is kind of the warning signals. These are not the right people for the business. And this comes after hiring people for the last decade. And because I've been hiring people for the last decade, like my pattern recognition has only gotten better and better over time. And in addition, I have more examples of what it looks like when somebody is not a great hire and what it looks like when somebody is an exceptional team member. So let's go through framework number one. And this is going to be the gut feeling. This is that gut check. And most, like so many people say, well, what is your gut say? What does that even mean? Right.Josh Hadley 00:02:09 What does that mean? I truly believe, like there we all have a soul inside of us, and there's something about that spiritual energy inside of us that I think is leading and guiding us on a daily basis. We just don't even know it like. But I think it does teach us things on a regular basis. And so it is that light and light is attracted to other light. And so I believe that when we make those gut decisions, it's really our conscious, that soul that is speaking into us, whether this is the right fit or it's not. And oftentimes this has been the number one indicator for me as to whether, like, somebody is going to be a great hire or not. Is that feeling that I get from the moment that I watch their case study that they put together for the business, and also the interview that I conducted What? That team member. If I'm getting that good, like, gut feeling, so to speak, those are very positive signs. But if I'm ever getting that feeling of, like, an uneasiness or like maybe that's the warning signal.Josh Hadley 00:03:15 So that's framework number one is like right down the gut feeling, your intuition that comes to you almost immediately because your brain is going to be able to begin rationalizing almost anybody, and you can rationalize anybody into almost any different role, but don't let your brain do that. And so often I've had that happen to me. Framework number two is start the hiring process as soon as you possibly can. And the reason why you want to start the hiring process as soon as you possibly can is because guess what? Finding the right person is going to take time. And so first off, I'm going to go through my framework. And before I ever extend an offer to somebody I'm going to ask myself, how many applicants have I even seen? How many people even applied to this job? My goal is that I've got 1000 applicants for every single one of my positions....

This week's Talkhouse Podcast features a conversation between two ridiculously talented young songwriter/guitarists in the early days of what will surely be interesting careers: Mei Semones and John Roseboro. Semones famously found her passion for guitar by watching the “Johnny B. Goode” scene in Back to the Future, which led her to music school and the kind of genre-spanning passion that feels refreshingly unfiltered. Sometimes she'll play delicate, jazz-inflected acoustic songs while singing in Japanese; the next minute it's more familiar indie-pop that adds a bit of bossa nova or some shredding. The fact that it doesn't make sense is what makes it make sense, if you get what I mean. Semones was a big hit at this year's experimental-leaning Big Ears Festival, and she's also got a big social media following—that's an odd crossover, or at least I think it is. Next week she'll open a string of shows for American Football on the west coast before heading down to charm Australia. Her first full-length was last year's Animaru, and she followed it recently with an EP called Kurage, which includes a song made with today's other guest, John Roseboro. Roseboro has called his music “post-Bossa Nova” or sometimes just “post-Bossa,” but that only tells part of the story. He's a thoughtful, observant lyricist who's great at building a vibe and then taking it to unexpected places. Like Semones, he lives in Brooklyn, though he ended up there via a strange route that took him to mortuary school and some time among the Amish. His latest full-length is 2024's Fools, but since then he's released a charming cover of the classic “Close To You” that removes a lot of the cheese associated with various other versions over the years. He also collaborated with Semones on a track from her EP that recounts a story of his lost tooth and a meeting on a subway platform. Check out that song, “Tooth Fairy,” right here. In this charming, relentlessly laid-back conversation, Semones and Roseboro—who are good friends, as you'll be able to tell—hit each other with questions that lead everywhere from what food they like on the road to the magic of music. Succumb to their rhythm and enjoy the conversation. 0:00 — Intro 2:28 — Start of conversation 2:50 — If you could be an animal, what would you be? 4:19 — On traveling and finding a home base 5:50 — What do you think about while performing? 8:15 — On noticing the audience at shows, and hecklers 10:10 — On favorite types of food, and go-to deli orders 12:46 — On what makes a good song & lyrics 16:29 — On underrated songs they've made 18:40 — On dreams and dream imagery 20:38 — On Nerd Clusters, snacks, and drinks on rider requests 22:03 — On favorite sports 22:40 — Have you ever been in a fight? 24:49 — On favorite seasons and months 25:13 — On the differences between touring and recording 27:56 — On sleeping 28:55 — On subtlety Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast, and thanks to Mei Semones and John Roseboro for chatting. The Lakers and Celtics renew their rivalry as the hated green team from Beantown made their way to LA on Sunday Afternoon. And the Lakers found themselves in a game where nothing seemed to go right, not the offense, where they only scored 39 in the second half, the defense, who allowed Payton Prichard to go off for 30 on 10-14 shooting, or the refs, who missed multiple calls in the second and third quarter that caused the Lakers to lose their composure. This all added up to a dismal performance for the Lakers as they lose 111-89. Tune in as the guys from the Lakers Fast Break share thoughts on the game, the unveiling of the Pat Riley Statue, and what's up ahead for the team in their continuous battle in the Western Conference. Many people on a spiritual path are feeling the heaviness and confusion of the times. There is a sense that something deeper is unfolding beneath the chaos of the world. In this livestream, Kara Goodwin speaks candidly about the dark night of the soul as it relates to the current global climate, prophetic cycles, and the spiritual pressure many sensitive, conscious people are experiencing right now. Rather than a fear-based conversation, this is an honest exploration of discernment, spiritual sovereignty, and what it means to stay aligned with truth, clarity, and inner authority during times of manipulation, division, and energetic overload. Topics explored in this livestream include: Why these times were prophesied across ancient and modern lineages The difference between awakening and spiritual overwhelm How fear narratives and information overload impact the nervous system Recognizing spiritual and psychological manipulation without giving it power The temptation to compromise authenticity for visibility or growth Why intuition must lead over algorithms, trends, or external influence Navigating the dark night without losing your light Spiritual protection, invocation, and energetic alchemy Transmuting fear, despair, and heaviness into wisdom and strength Kara also shares a deeply personal experience of confronting spiritual darkness, how she recognized it in real time, and the tools she used to reclaim clarity and power without denial or bypassing. If you have felt overwhelmed by world events, discouraged by what you are seeing, or pressured to give up your inner knowing, this livestream is an invitation to remember who you are and why you are here. You are not powerless. Your consciousness matters. And even reaching one soul is enough.

Every Mile Matters: Turning Triathlon Training Into Cancer Triumph by Jeffrey L. Reynolds, Ph.D https://www.amazon.com/Every-Mile-Matters-Triathlon-Training/dp/B0FJQ2Q98P Everymilematters.com Three sports. Two cancer diagnoses. One unbreakable spirit. At age 55, Jeffrey L. Reynolds, Ph.D., crossed the finish line at Ironman Florida - a grueling triathlon and the crowning achievement of his endurance sports journey. Just weeks later, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He fought through treatment, recovered—and was hit again. This time, it was Stage 3B colorectal cancer. In Every Mile Matters, Dr. Reynolds shares how the physical fitness, mental fortitude, grit and resilience developed through triathlon and marathon training became his greatest weapons in the fight for his life. The Long Island resident didn't just apply his athletic mindset—he relied on it. Each round of radiation became a daily workout. Each chemo session, a test of strategy and strength. And every setback, an opportunity to dig deeper, endure and win. This is a powerful story of transformation, of turning pain into purpose and struggle into strength. Reynolds explores the emotional and spiritual shifts that come with surviving cancer—alongside practical tools for mindset, wellness, and long-term recovery. Perfect for athletes, cancer survivors, caregivers, and anyone facing adversity, Every Mile Matters is an uplifting, unforgettable tribute to the grit that carries us through finish lines—and the fights that matter most. “Every Mile Matters is a triumph of heart and soul in battling the demons of cancer. Jeffrey Reynolds has captured each defining moment of his cancer journey with honesty, passion, and remarkable clarity. Through his story, he teaches us powerful life lessons - and more importantly, how to live them daily. His defining moments at the IRONMAN finish line gave him the strength to fight on. His resilience, vulnerability, and relentless spirit remind us that the human will is stronger than any diagnosis. This book isn't just about surviving cancer - it's about reclaiming life and helping others to do the same. A must-read for anyone facing adversity or seeking inspiration to rise above it.” - Mike Reilly, Voice of IRONMAN and author of Finding My Voice “Dr. Jeff Reynolds' book is an important one for everyone, but especially for those who have been given “the diagnosis” that changes your life forever. I feel strongly that we are given 3 choices when going through a period of challenge or suffering. Succumb, Adapt, or Evolve. Jeff took the Evolve route and it has changed his life for the “BEST-ER.” Taking charge of your life is a choice, and he represents that greatest choice in this book.” - Scott Hamilton, Olympic Gold Medalist and cancer survivor.

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for September 19, 2025 is: succumb suh-KUM verb Succumbing is about yielding to something: someone who succumbs to a pressure or emotion stops trying to resist that pressure or emotion, and someone who succumbs to an injury or disease dies because of that injury or disease. The word is often followed by to. // The program aims to help kids develop the strength of character required to avoid succumbing to peer pressure. // Many patients diagnosed with the disease live healthy lives for years before succumbing to it. See the entry > Examples: “Occasionally, Dope Girls does succumb to style over substance, as if it doesn't quite have the confidence to let its big, bold narrative unfold without any bells and whistles.” — Jon O'Brien, The Daily Beast, 8 Aug. 2025 Did you know? Picture yourself serenely succumbing to sleep. Chances are that in the mental image you've just formed, you are in a recumbent position—that is, lying down. The position is baked into the etymology: both succumb and recumbent trace back to cumbere, a Latin verb meaning “to lie down.” While recumbency is typically literal, succumbing is about figuratively lying down before something—yielding to it, ceasing to resist it. The word is most often used with regard to faults and foibles and demise—people succumb to temptation, plants succumb to blight—but the word can be applied in happier contexts too, as when one succumbs to sleep in a quiet spot on a sunny afternoon.

John 7:13 Yet no one was speaking openly of Him for fear of the Jews. Apparently the Jews, the Jewish leaders, were a very intimidating group of men. So much so that no one openly talked about Jesus at the feast of Booths. Those who thought He was a good man (vs. 12) must have made sure they only gave their opinion to people with whom they felt safe. Have you ever been intimidated into silence? Have you experienced the fear that comes from censorship and rejection? There are going to be times in our lives when we know we have to speak the truth in love in an atmosphere that is hostile to Christ. Usually that hostility has grown there because of the intimidation of important people in that community or social circle. There are certain circles where spiritual discussions are frowned upon or forbidden. It takes a lot of courage and love to speak up about Jesus in those circles. We need the discernment and discretion of Jesus to know when to speak and when not to. Even Jesus hesitated to go too, because He knew they were hostile to Him and wanted to kill Him. But I think we can be sure that His reluctance wasn't fear-based. It had more to do with God's timing, because He did go later. When He went, we've learned that He didn't keep silent. He went to the temple and began teaching. As He taught, the responses were guarded to non-existent. I think we can assume that the way the Jewish leaders intimidated the crowd was by their asking where He got His ideas. Essentially, they were saying that Jesus wasn't teaching what the reputable rabbis were teaching. They asserted that He wasn't educated by anyone with any authority or notoriety, therefore should be rejected and censored. Fear was stifling the crowd from talking about Him or His teaching. As we go through our day, let's not let intimidation hinder our speaking about Jesus or loving people God puts in our paths. We can trust God to use every situation and encounter for His glory as we wait on the Holy Spirit for ways to love them. Father, help us overcome fear of rejection and censorship. Give us discernment and discretion, as well as love and courage to speak out regardless of the environment. Make us bright lights in the darkness. I invite you to become a partner in our ministry. Would you pray about becoming a regular supporter of Elijah Ministries and the Live to Love with Jesus ministry? I hope you will receive the joy and benefit of "giving it forward," so others may receive encouragement to turn their hearts to God and to live to love with Jesus. Being single truly isn't the problem, the problem is the mindset that you have as a single person. Many people are already struggling mentally and being single makes things worst because they focus on the fact that they're single, to the point of it being their main focus! It makes the lives of many people more miserable and out of it comes loneliness, depression, isolation, etc. Just because a person is alone doesn't mean they have to be lonely but they are because of the mindsets they have and how they view being lonely.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/relationships-and-relatable-life-chronicles--4126439/support.

Dr Majed Jaber, a physician working at Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, outlines the immense pressure on medical facilities amidst the worsening humanitarian crisis.
In this episode, I’m diving into some fascinating research and sharing my own opinions for a fun, insightful show about longevity and living to 100 years old. It is amazing to think there are 722,000 centenarians alive today, but only 219 people who’ve made it to 110. I think genes affect your potential to live to 110, but most of us should form the empowering belief that we can sail to 100, if we just get out of our own way. Reference my previous show, Longevity Science is Wrong—Don’t Succumb to BS Commentary and Self-Limiting Beliefs. In this episode, I explore how lifestyle factors like staying active, managing stress, and keeping a positive mindset are key to longevity. We’ll also touch on the surprising traits that many centenarians share—things like emotional awareness and optimism—and how they contribute to a longer, healthier life. So, join me as I unpack some longevity stats and challenge you to embrace the belief that living a long life is within your control. Oh, and stay tuned for a fun surprise at the end—a little freestyle rap from my 60th birthday party earlier this year! TIMESTAMPS: The United States is rate4d 35th in world ranking in longevity statistics. {00:54] For the first time in recorded history, those of us in the younger generation have a lower life expectancy than that of our parents. [02:45] Surprisingly, according to the UN there are 722,000 people in the world right now who are over the age of 100. There are more women than men in that bunch. [07:06] Does genetics play a role in life expectancy statistics? [10:21] There are three kinds of resilience that are connected to longevity: cognitive resilience, economic resilience, and personal resilience. [17:11] Loneliness is a huge factor in all age groups. [21:48] Your heart and lungs working well will help mental acuity. Dementia statistics show 50% have symptoms. Walk your way into better brain health. [28:05] Lifestyle studies have shown centenarians tend to share personality traits: a positive attitude and emotional awareness. [34:07] If you think you have genetic predisposition for something that you can prevent, then you don't have to follow that history. [39:37] To stay youthful, you gotta do things right. Today we offer a grim and final eulogy to the Democratic Party and the 2024 election. The results were foretold by countless DNC missteps and missed opportunities that the Party remains reluctant to admit to. The next stage in the American experiment is going to be dire and regressive, leaving progressives with two options to move forward: Succumb to the forces of authoritarian rule guided by the corporate class, or build a plan to take control of our democracy after they burn it to the ground. We're exiting the neoliberal phase of our journey and entering what Stanley Deetz termed “corporate colonialism.” In order to build a strong coalition to jumpstart a new progressive movement, it's imperative that we focus our efforts on decolonizing America. -- If you like #UNFTR, please leave us a rating and review on Apple Podcasts: unftr.com/rate and follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram at @UNFTRpod. One of the most fundamental features of art is its ability to meet us during times of distress. In the early days of the pandemic, many people turned to comfort reads and beloved films as a form of escapism; more recently, in the wake of the election, shows such as “The Great British Bake Off” have been offered up on group chats as a balm. On this episode of Critics at Large, Vinson Cunningham, Naomi Fry, and Alexandra Schwartz consider the value—and limits—of seeking solace in culture. Comfort art has flourished in recent years, as evidenced by the rise of genres such as“romantasy” and the “cozy thriller.” But where is the line between using art as a salve and tuning out at a moment when politics demands our engagement? “One of the purposes of the comfort we seek is to sustain us,” Schwartz says. “That's what we all are going to need: sustenance to move forward.” Read, watch, and listen with the critics:“The Crown” (2016-2023)“Sesame Street” (1969-)“The Great British Bake Off” (2010-)“In Tumultuous Times, Readers Turn to ‘Healing Fiction,' ” by Alexandra Alter (The New York Times)Charles Schulz's “Peanuts” (1950-2000)“Uncut Gems” (2019)“Somebody Somewhere” (2022-)“3 Terrific Specials to Distract You from the News,” by Jason Zinoman (The New York Times)“Tom Papa: Home Free” (2024)“America, Don't Succumb to Escapism,” by Kristen Ghodsee (The New Republic)“Candide,” by VoltaireBeth Stern's Instagram“Janet Planet” (2023)Marvin Gaye's “What's Going On”Donny Hathaway's “Extension of a Man”New episodes drop every Thursday. Let's talk about longevity and how the science can sometimes be BS. A listener recently shared a prominent news story with me that suggests that humanity is hitting the upper limit of life expectancy and that people will top out at a maximum age of around 87, 90 for women and 84 for men. To quote the lead study author, S.J. .Olshansky, professor of epidemiology and biostatistics at University of Illinois, Chicago: “We're basically suggesting that as long as we live now is about as long as we're going to live, we're squeezing less and less life out of these life-extending technologies.” In this episode, I talk about why this is a great example of how science can be stupid, inapplicable, misinterpreted and misapplied. There are highly competent researchers doing great, important work, with likely highly reliable results, but we also know that this is not always the case. In the case of the Blue Zones, principal researchers admittedly took their liberties with the information about eating habits in order to advance their plant-based agenda. The ways that research relating to exercise physiology can often deliver distorted conclusions because of factors like the nature of the subjects, the duration of the study, and the failure to control confounding variables is something I've discussed on the show before, and while I agree that we're not magically going to live longer because of amazing new drugs, a far more interesting discussion to me is how we are ruining our natural human lifespan potential in modern times. My personal view on this is that almost everyone has the potential to sail smoothly to 100, taking advantage of modern medical intervention when necessary, but mainly by simply not getting in our own way (and this even includes people that have been dealt a bad hand with genetics such as a family propensity for obesity, heart disease, cancer, and so forth). In this episode, I talk about some ways to not become a statistic and how to actualize your human potential by getting out of your way and doing some cool stuff too, and why the main emphasis must always be on health span, not lifespan. TIMESTAMPS: According to a recent article advances in medical technology and genetic research are not translating into lifespan overall. Are we really at a plateau? [00:51] The problem with these studies is that the scientists are looking at a population that is leading a very unhealthy lifestyle in general. [06:57] In any scientific study, there are many variables so one always needs to view the results accordingly. [11:08] You may have familial genes for predisposition for things like obesity, heart disease, cancer and so forth, but you need environmental influences to trigger those diseases. [12:07] Can we do anything to defy those statistics about how long we are going to live? [17:05] Sleep, rest, relaxation, recovery, and downtime are critically important. [21:45] Circadian rhythm is a number one concern, according to Dr. Kruse. Minimize the light in your home after dark. [23:47] Clean up your act. You cannot focus on longevity if you have crap in your life. This includes toxic relationships. [34:58] Look at your behavior patterns. Be positive. Envision your happy healthy life because you are taking control of your diet and exercise for sailing into the long future. [40:22] The media programs us to believe something that gets us to limit our thinking. [43:49] When you focus on plant-based eating, for whatever reason, it is high risk unless you also get nutrient-dense foods. We need protein. [46:35] Walking is the single most essential requirement for your health and longevity. Move frequently and take breaks from your work. [49:57] Sprinting added to your daily routine is very valuable. [59:56] Digital technology has played havoc on our social connections. Don't put health and longevity on the back burner. Care about it! 01:05:42] Beware of how consumerism is luring you with its profit-based goal of making money. [01:11:38] Set simple doable goals. The Dean's List with Host Dean Bowen – In today's world, the media and political systems often mislead the public. I emphasize the importance of self-education and critical thinking, urging citizens to question narratives and seek the truth through dialectic conversations. By doing our own research, we can uncover hidden truths and challenge the misinformation propagated by those in power, fostering a more informed society.
Yes, the states are intended to have the power to obstruct the enforcement of unconstitutional federal laws. Mark Pulliam, a previous Tom Woods Show guest, argues otherwise in a Law & Liberty symposium, but our friend Mark isn't infallible.
