The Minnesota Timberwolves made the biggest move of the offseason by trading Patrick Beverley, Jarred Vanderbilt, Malik Beasley, Leandro Bolmaro, Walker Kessler, 3 first-round picks, and a pick swap to the Utah Jazz in exchange for Rudy Gobert. The move signified the start of a new wave in Minnesota; Big Ball. Now the idea of having two bigger front court players isn't as much of a novel concept in today's NBA as many claim it is. Cleveland runs out a lineup including Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen, Memphis deploys Steven Adams and Jaren Jackson Jr. in their front line together, Indiana had Myles Turner and Domantas Sabonis next to one another for years, and the reigning runner-up Boston Celtics had Al Horford playing next to Robert Williams III. Of course, none of those duos are a perfect 1:1 match for the Towns and Gobert pairing, but it does put away the notion that a two-big lineup is unheard of and cannot work. On today's episode of Bleav in Timberwolves, hosts Brendan Hedtke and Doug West are back from their busy summer of coaching high school hoops and are ready to dive into some Wolves talk. The pair breaks down their thoughts on the Gobert trade and how he seems to fit with the Timberwolves on both sides of the ball. Then, Brendan and Doug looks at the additional moves the Wolves have made, including the signing of Bryn Forbes, Austin Rivers, and Eric Paschall. Finally, they look at the projected win totals for the Timberwolves and discuss if they believe the line is a fair one, taking into consideration all of the factors that will be in play next season.

One of the best things about the draft is that we can look back and learn from our mistakes. We continue our history review with the dissection of the 2018 NBA Draft. We cover players who have vastly outperformed their draft slot, like Mikal Bridges, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and more, and those who have disappointed along with our biggest misses. A tip of the cap to Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors. That makes four titles in the last eight seasons and seven overall. That and his first Finals MVP should put the legacy talk to bed. Klay Thompson ethered Memphis Grizzlies forward Jaren Jackson Jr. for something that happened during the regular season. Jayson Tatum may be the Boston Celtics' best player. But he is far from the Kobe Byant replica he fancied himself to be. The latest Chicago Bulls rumor finally brings some positive news while Atlanta Hawks management is pumping the breaks on rumors of sweeping changes. How will Christian Wood getting traded from the Houston Rockets to the Dallas Mavericks impact the trade market this summer? Apparently, nobody wants to pick after the first three selections in the June 23 NBA Draft. On the NFL side, second-year quarterback Justin Fields and the Chicago Bears wrapped an up-and-down mandatory three-day minicamp. Will the front office do more to surround him with weapons? They could always try to flip disgruntled EDGE Robert Quinn for a pass-catcher. The Bears joined the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, and Washington Football Team in being fined for excessive hitting in offseason workouts. Chicago (this offseason) and Dallas (next offseason) both lost practices. The New Orleans Saints revealed their new alternate helmets. New York Jets rookie and 10th-overall pick, Garrett Wilson, got a reality check during his appearance on Ryan Clark's "The Pivot". Deshaun Watson's camp is anticipating severe punishment from the league as the result of his 24 lawsuits for sexual misconduct. On today's episode, Jason starts things off by telling us why the Memphis Grizzlies are already in deep trouble after Game 1 of their series against the Golden State Warriors. Steph Curry and Klay Thompson weren't good, Draymond Green got ejected in the second half, Jaren Jackson Jr and Ja Morant both played well... and the Grizz still lost. You can't give away a game like that when you have that many things working if your favor. Maybe if Morant and his dad spent less time hamming it up after baskets and more time worrying about defense, Memphis wouldn't be down 0-1. Speaking of the NBA Playoffs, is it already time to put Chris Paul and the Phoenix Suns on upset alert heading into tonight's Game 1 against the Dallas Mavericks? The Suns were the best team in the NBA throughout the regular season, but they haven't looked nearly as sharp so far in the postseason. The Mavs play stout defense, and they will have the best player in the series (Luka Doncic), so an upset shouldn't be all that shocking. Finally, Jason and Producer Rob G close the show by picking a few of the biggest winners from this past weekend's NFL Draft. The Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens both did really well, but is it fair to say that it was the Arizona Cardinals who best set themselves up for immediate success? Our fearless leader is already predicting an NFC West crown for Kyler Murray and the Cardinals! Guess only time will tell on that one.  Click here to subscribe, rate and review all of the latest Straight Fire with Jason McIntyre podcasts! #FSRWeekends See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On today's show, we get into Game 3 of the Wolves-Grizzlies first round matchup, highlighting what went into the Wolves building two separate 20-point leads only to watch both leads crumble away. An obvious key area to focus on in this game was Karl-Anthony Towns, who not only got in foul trouble again in this matchup but also took a career-low of four shots in the loss. Topics today include: — Why did KAT only shoot four shots? — Jaren Jackson Jr. and Karl-Anthony Towns showing off chronic foul problems that have plagued both players for their entire career — Chris Finch opting to save timeouts rather than using them during Memphis' run — Should Finch be anticipating foul trouble from KAT? — Patrick Beverley effectively attacking Ja Morant, and why that could be valuable if it sustains throughout the series — Anthony Edwards hurts his knee, fades away — What needs to be different in Game 4 Learn more about your ad choices. How Close is Malik Monk to Other Elite Young NBA Players? How Much Should Lakers Fans Celebrate Failures of the Clippers?

On Monday's show, we talked about ESPN's rankings of the 25 best players under 25 years old, based on production and potential. Our focus, vis-a-vis the Lakers centered on Austin Reaves and Talen Horton-Tucker. But as multiple people on the Locked On Lakers YouTube pointed out, that ignored Malik Monk, who at 24 is under the age threshold. So how close is he to making this list? Well... not very. And it's nothing personal, either. But not only is Monk nowhere close to the list's 25th ranked player - Memphis' Jaren Jackson Jr. - he's behind other players who didn't make the list. Think Anfernee Simons, Robert Williams III, Josh Giddey, OG Onunoby, Kevin Porter Jr., Jordan Poole, Saddiq Bey, Keldon Johnson, Gary Trent Jr., Jonathan Kuminga, Lonzo Ball and so on. So not only do the Lakers lack that kind of talent, they lack access to it. So does that mean it's better to start over? If so, that's almost certainly a guarantee the Lakers will be out of contention for a few years, and who knows if they get back? But if they keep pushing the LeBron/AD core and throw everything they have at it... they could end up in same place, except with future assets stripped away. It's a pickle. Meanwhile, more names are trickling out as potential persons of interest in the Lakers coaching search. It's VERY early and none of this truly indicates the thinking of the team, but one thing is clear: There's not much of a through line. Will the names get more coherent with time? Meanwhile, is this really the season for Lakers fans to relish in the failures of the Clippers? HOSTS: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky SEGMENT 1: How close is Malik Monk to being an elite under-25 player? SEGMENT 2: What does Brandon Ingram's age say about the future paths available to the Lakers? SEGMENT 3: Early names in the Lakers coaching search, and a discussion of schadenfreude.
