In this episode, we discuss the Mavs' 120-106 victory over the Sacramento Kings in 9/10 game of the Play-In Tournament to advance to the second Play-In game against the Memphis Grizzlies for a chance to make the 2025 NBA Playoffs as the 8th seed. We talk about Klay Thompson's inspiring 23-point performance, exorcising his demons of past Play-In games. We also discuss Anthony Davis' up-and-down performance, in which he finished with 27 points and 9 rebounds. We also talk about the defensive frontline of Davis and Dereck Lively and how that might stack up against Memphis' front court of Zach Edey and Jaren Jackson Jr. We then pivot to talking about the closed door media event held by the Mavs in which Nico Harrison and CEO Rick Welts addressed select members of the media with cameras prohibited. It was an embarrassing moment and yet another PR disaster in which Harrison still could not properly justify his bizarre decision to trade Luka Dončić to the Lakers two months ago. We talk about how this might be the first signs that Mavs Governor Patrick Dumont may be realizing the scale of the crisis Harrison created for his franchise.
Fear the 'Fro settles the debate once and for all about why Evan is the Defensive Player Of The Year. We open with the “Luka revenge game” as the Lakers and Mavericks faced off for the first time since the blockbuster trade. Rob feels like Lakers fans are looking to win it all right now, and Luka needs to tighten up on the other end of the floor if they’re even going to have a shot. Rob has still not committed to this move because of a bad loss to the Hornets and some tight wins that should have been bigger. This week’s story was about Luka’s taste for “beer and hookah” in Dallas was one of the reasons they moved on from him, and even though he has trimmed out in LA we wonder how long it will take before he gets comfortable again. Rob also has strong words for the “fans” that are threatening Nico’s family and kids, and we talk about the roots of that kind of fandom and how the Mavs may have had a hand in creating the Luka-monster in Dallas before trading him away. Plus we talk about Wembanyama being out for the season and what that means for Jaren Jackson Jr’s hunt for a supermax deal, and how Evan Mobley might have torpedoed the entire deal. And with Naz Reid potentially on the move, we talk about how he should be getting more starts in Minnesota with the numbers and level of play he’s shown so far this season. Plus the story of the year so far in the NBA is easily the bounce back of the Detroit Pistons under J.B. Bickerstaff and Cade Cunningham, and how Detroit plays with more attitude then most in the league. And it wouldn’t be a week in the NBA without looking at the demise of the Philadelphia 76ers, as Paul George continues to struggle and Joel Embiid remains hurt. Rob digs up his pre-season playoff list to make a point that even though he picked the Sixers to make the playoffs, we all had bad picks when we knew nothing at the start of the season. That leads us into the current NBA standings and how we see this last month of the season shaking out. We close it out with an inspiring Big Shot of the Week to an officer who went the extra mile to help a young kid delivering pizzas in the snow… followed by a hilarious edition of Black Crime or White Crime!

On this episode of ‘The Young Man and the Three,' Tommy Alter is joined by Jaren Jackson Jr. and Desmond Bane of the Memphis Grizzlies. First, Tommy and Jason Gallagher open the episode with Trey Murphy of the New Orleans Pelicans to discuss his game saving ‘block' against the Dallas Mavericks. Then, JJJ and Des take us back to how they first met in the basketball world. They also discuss which NBA players (Anthony Edwards, Zion Williamson, Lu Dort, Jrue Holiday) would make good NFL players. They also have a very honest conversation about how NIL might be affecting NCAA basketball. Both of them then share their NBA Draft processes and experiences, including how Jaren met Draymond Green and how Michigan State coach Tom Izzo keeps in contact with all his NBA players. They then discuss the state of the Grizzlies, how this year's team is different, what they've learned the past few years with early success, and just how incredible Ja Morant is, and much more. Finally, they share their take on what's wrong with flagrant fouls. It's a packed, fantastic episode.
