In today's episode we will talk about a singer who didn'thave any musical family history or formal training. A pure raw god gifted talent - Reshma. Though she was born in India inChuru Rajasthan's small village named Loha, but her family, soon after the partition moved to Pakistan when she was mere 1 month old. She was singing at the holy shrine of Lal Shahbaz Kalander when she was barely 12. The magic of her voice becameso divine that a person standing in the crowd offered her to sign for the radio. She sang 3-4 songs on her maiden visit to the station and became an instant hit. She came to India and sang "Lambi Judayi" which was written by Anand Bakshi and the tune was composed by Laxmikant– Pyarelal & was recorded at Mr. Subhash Ghai's house with barely 10-12 musicians. This song became a block buster hit and had a pivotal role in the movie. Some voices are totally different & very devine and make their way straight to the bottom of your heart. Welcome to the first 80s Dhamaka! episode of Khandaan: A Bollywood Podcast. We kick things off with Subhash Ghai's KARZ (1980), an iconic reincarnation drama starring Rishi Kapoor, Simi Garewal, Tina Munim, Raj Kiran and Premnath. Join us as Asim watches the movie for the first time while Sujoy and Amrita compare their memories of this film to what it looks like today.
Taal turns 25 years old because Time is an illusion. Taal is the filmiest of filmy films, with a seriously OTT Anil, diva-like Aishwarya, and Akshaye being sensible lover boy. There is a lot of rain, some talk of tyaag and izzat, snooty rich people, a cute mop of a dog, and an unholy amount of sequins and razzle dazzle. A R Rahman delivers an absolutely epic score that is choreographed to perfection, and director Subhash Ghai was maybe a total genius by letting him and everyone else on this crew just do their magic. Come rise in love with Taal and tell us what you think! Khandaan: A Bollywood Podcast is not superstitious, but if ever there was a cursed project, it would have to be 1995’s Shahrukh Khan starrer TRIMURTI. A Mukta Arts production directed by Mukul Anand, this movie should have been a slamdunk. Instead, it just dunked on the hosts of this podcast who soon lost the ability to tell what was up and what was down. Possibly the worst film we’ve reviewed on this podcast, Trimurti is unsalvageable in every respect. Co-starring Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor, Mohan Agashe, and a host of people who would go on to loudly infest other Subhash Ghai films about horrendous families and their wayward children, Episode 80 of the Khandaan is quite a traumatic affair.
