We carry with us stories of people with whom we crossed paths years, sometimes decades ago. Some are inspiring stories and others, a cautionary tale. Hariram is the kind of unforgettable character we all have known or heard about. He lived a life of greed and misfortune and died an unremarkable death- only to be remembered by a young boy who saw Hariram as the beneficiary of his mother's simple act of kindness. ------- Contact me: Instagram: @arti_storyjam Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/StoryjamArti Club House : @artijain ------- Meet me at these Social Media links: Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/StoryjamArti My podcast on other platforms: Spotify open.spotify.com/show/0rG7ez0Pku1MuWhfvo6Dtz Apple Podcasts podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/storyjam-hindi-urdu-audio-stories/id1513845846 Gaana.com gaana.com/podcast/storyjam-hindi-urdu-audio-stories-season-1 RadioPublic radiopublic.com/storyjam-GmywpN Pocket Casts pca.st/rwdymlsd Overcast overcast.fm/itu #Hindi #StoryJam #hindikavita #hindipoetry #poetry #Urdupoetry ---------- About this channel: On this podcast channel, you can listen to Hindi and Urdu Stories by famous writers of Hindi sahitya/ literature. What would two great writers from history talk about if they were to meet? We may not find that out, but when one translates the works of the other, what is evident is a sense of common concern, a shared worldview and a hat tip to the greatness of the other. When Premchand translated works of Leo Tolstoy, he didn't just use his vast and rich vocabulary to retell the great Russian's work in Hindustani, he took the story and drew its essence in a way that the story became Indian. Incidentally, if you listen carefully you'll recognize another work or two that may have been inspired by the original. Do let me know if you do! ----- About this channel: On this Youtube channel, you can listen to Hindi and Urdu Stories by famous writers of Hindi sahitya/ literature. We all like to root for the underdog- in movies! In real life it gets a little complicated and awkward, like it does for the narrator in Agyeya's story. Will all that pent up justified anger lead to a free-for-all, or will it go flat after a while, like soapsuds? --------------------------------- Sachchidananda Hirananda Vatsyayan, better known by his nom de plume Agyeya, held a prominent presence in the world of Hindi literature. It is widely believed that he brought experimentalism to Hindi poetry. Though long before he was known for his poetry, he had started writing short stories and novels. As a young man he contributed to a magazine edited by Munshi Premchand. In fact there is an interesting anecdote about his pen name, Agyeya. As a freedom fighter young Sachchidanand was imprisoned. While in jail he used to send his short stories to well known writer, Jainendra. Since his name could not be used, Jainendra passed on his articles to Munshi Premchand saying that the writer's name was ‘Agyeya' meaning unknowable. --------------------------------- On my channel you can listen to Hindi and Urdu Stories by famous writers of Hindi sahitya/ literature. Here you will find stories and poetry by great authors of Hindi and Urdu. Some of these are classics and others are rare gems that you may never have heard or read. There are works by well known writers such as Premchand, Sharat Chandra, Manto, Ismat Chughtai, Mohan Rakesh, Phanishwar Nath Renu, Mannu Bhandari, Harishankar Parsai. Some are rare works by Dilip Kumar, Balraj Sahani and Gulzar. ----- -------------------------------------------------------- Meet me at these Social Media links: Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/StoryjamArtiMy podcast on other platforms: Spotifyopen.spotify.com/show/0rG7ez0Pku1MuWhfvo6Dtz Apple Podcastspodcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/storyjam-hindi-urdu-audio-stories/id1513845846 Gaana.comgaana.com/podcast/storyjam-hindi-urdu-audio-stories-season-1 RadioPublicradiopublic.com/storyjam-GmywpNPocket Castspca.st/rwdymlsdOvercastovercast.fm/itu #Hindi #StoryJam #hindikahani #Agyeya #agyeyakirachnayein #agyeyakikahani #agyeyakikavitayien --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/storyjam/message
It's all about Mohammed Ali Road, Bombay, Alibaug, Church Gate, Sheikh Abdullah Salem, Raja yoga and Saatvik aahaar in this episode of Sadaaqa. The Al Arfaj family from Kuwait lived a happy life in a penthouse on Mohammed Ali Road in Bombay for many years before shifting to Colaba. The Al Arfaj patriarch started off as a pearl merchant before he diversified his business. His eldest daughter Noura Al Arfaj studied Hindi and Urdu at the Parsi run Anjuman Islamic High School. The summer holidays were great fun spent in the cool climes of Panchgani, Matheran and Deolali. The children's maternal grandfather lived in Alibaug, and the Al Arfaj family spent a lot of time in this green paradise. Noura and Sheikha's maternal grandmother Salma Bawazir, participated in the political movement with Gandhiji after he returned from South Africa. Their maternal uncle Rashid, a Bollywood film producer was married to Dilip Kumar's niece. The Kuwaiti family conversed in Hindi and Urdu, the womenfolk wore sarees and their Arabic dress. The children studied Arabic in a special school opened by Sheikh Abdullah Salem at Church Gate. In the 1960s, the family shifted to Kuwait when the Emir of Kuwait asked his people to return and rebuild the country. The family relocated but they kept alive their connections and love for India. Sheikha, who was born in Kuwait was attracted by India's spiritual wealth. She went on to cofound Harmony House, a centre for meditation and Raja Yoga in Kuwait. She also established Ginger, one of the first vegan restaurants in Kuwait based on India's ancient philosophy of Satvik Aahaar. "With Lata Mangeshkar went a huge, massive chunk of film history and film music history," says Nasreen Munni Kabir, author, 'Lata Mangeshkar... In Her Own Voice'. This book of conversations with the legend reveals her photographic memory, her magical ability to change her voice to suit specific actors, her deep understanding of the emotions in lyrics and of sound technology, and how, in the words of Dilip Kumar, her songs "are part of our lives and memory".
WHY DILIP KUMAR REFUSED TO COME TO THE PREMIERE OF MUGHAL-E-AZAM AND SAID THAT HE WILL NEVER SEE THAT FILM .

Film historian and writer Gautam Chintamani joins us for a deep dive into Ramesh Sippy's Shakti (1982). A film that Sippy is most proud of, by some accounts. A film that's Salim Khan's personal favorite among the films he co-wrote with Javed Akhtar. A film that pits together two giants of Hindi cinema, Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan. Gautam and I tried to unpack why Shakti is one of Dilip Kumar's greatest films and how the legendary actor was able to elevate the performances of his co-actors. We also discussed the craft of Shakti, the women of Shakti and how they are projected as the mature counterparts of their partners, how the film can be seen as an amalgamation of Salim-Javed's films, the film's terrific score by R D Burman, and how Bachchan was neither overshadowed nor overshadowing in the film. Dilip Kumar is a pioneer of sorts for his community who are traditionally traders and business people from one of the oldest trading districts of Bengaluru. These are people soaked in the great tradition, culture, and food, but an active lifestyle usually takes a back seat. Dilip breaks that stereotype, he does not mind being the odd man out and setting an example of what's possible. His pursuit of running is now inspiring many in his community to take on healthier lifestyles including his wife who gets his support and empowerment. His journey of running marathons and ultras is filled with passion and adventure, and an ongoing quest for continuous improvement.
