"One Country, Two Systems is a good policy that must be upheld for a long time." Chinese President Xi Jinping made the remarks in Macao while attending a ceremony to mark the 25th anniversary of the city's return to the motherland. Two days ahead of the celebration, he arrived in Macao for extensive and in-depth exchanges with locals. He praised the people of Macao for writing "a new chapter in the successful implementation of One Country, Two Systems with Macao Characteristics." What exactly is "One Country, Two Systems with Macao Characteristics"? Has it benefited Macao people over the past 25 years?

Dickie Arbiter began his broadcasting career in Zimbabwe (Southern Rhodesia) in the mid-1960s. Following a return to the United Kingdom in the early 1970s he joined LBC News Radio/IRN (Independent Radio News) as a newscaster and program presenter. During late Queen's 1977 Silver Jubilee he was asked to report on the British royal family. In 1981 he was responsible for organizing the UK's commercial radio coverage as well as taking on as lead commentator of the wedding of Prince Charles to Lady Diana Spencer. With the success of the Royal wedding coverage, he was appointed IRN's Court Correspondent with accreditation to Buckingham Palace – being only one of two such correspondents with continuous and unfettered access to the Palace. His new role meant travelling extensively both at home and abroad, covering the British monarchy, his area of expertise. In 1988, he joined the Buckingham Palace Press Office, serving not only as press spokesman to the late Queen Elizabeth II but also spokesman for The King, when he was The Prince of Wales and his late wife, Diana Princess of Wales. In addition to his role as Royal press spokesman, Dickie was responsible for the media management of ceremonial occasions. These included all major state events inside Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle inward State Visits, the late Queen's major UK engagements and the operational media requirements for royal funerals, including that of the late Diana, Princess of Wales. For his service to the crown, In the 1996 Birthday Honors, he was appointed Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order (LVO). Since retiring from Royal duty, Dickie went back to his broadcasting roots as a television commentator. Having spent going on fifty years covering royalty, heads of state, and other globally recognized figures, his knowledge qualifies him to bring his own personal insight into the public forum as a royal analyst and international lecturer. On this episode, Dickie shares his one way ticket to Whitefish, Montana to horseback ride and enjoy a cowboy lifestyle. In our conversation, we also cover a wide swath of topics including: 1. The role of the Monarchy 2. A window into the late Queen's personality 3. The Republican movement in the UK and 13 realms where the Sovereign is Head of State 4. His tea with then Prince Charles & Lady Diana Spencer three days before their 1981 wedding…and what their relationship was really like 5. Lovely anecdotes of time spent with Diana during royal engagements 6. Behind the scenes look at managing the press for Diana's funeral 7. The painstaking details that go into an overseas royal tour 8. How the King is navigating his relentless schedule despite his cancer 9. The U.S. President the late Queen tolerated and the U.S. First Lady with which she had a frosty relationship 10. The drama surrounding Harry and Meghan 11. The late Queen's last days 12. Principally a sculptor who employs cast glass and drawing as primary methodologies, Clifford Rainey creates work that is interdisciplinary, incorporating a wide spectrum of materials and processes. A passionate traveler, his work is full of references to the things he has seen and experienced. Celtic mythologies, classical Greek architecture, the blue of the Turkish Aegean, globalization and the iconic American Coca-Cola bottle, the red of the African earth, and the human figure combine with cultural diversity to provide sculptural imagery charged with emotion. A British artist whose work has been exhibited internationally for 50 years, Rainey was born in Whitehead, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, in 1948. He began his career as a linen damask designer and worked in William Ewarts linen manufacturers from 1965 to 1968. Later, the artist studied at Hornsey College of Art, the Walthamstow School of Art, where he specialized in bronze casting, and the Royal College of Art, where he received his MA and specialized in glass. Between 1973 and 1975, Rainey ran his own glass studio in London and won a commission for a small sculpture to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of Elizabeth II. In 1984, the artist moved to New York and established additional studios there. Rainey's sculptural work has been exhibited internationally including: The Ulster Museum in Northern Ireland, The Victoria and Albert Museum in London, The Kunstmuseum in Dusseldorf, Germany, The Millennium Museum in Beijing, China, and the Museo de Arts Contemporaneo in Monterrey, Mexico. His work is in the permanent collections of numerous museums including: The Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin, Ireland, The DeYoung Museum, San Francisco, California, The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Museum of Art and Design, New York, The Fine Arts Museum of Boston, and The Montreal Museum of Fine Art, Canada. Rainey has realized a number of public art commissions including: The Lime Street Railway Station in Liverpool, England, the Jeddah Monument in Saudi Arabia, and the 911 Communication Center in San Francisco. He is a recipient of the Virginia A. Groot Foundation Award, Chicago, and the 2009 UrbanGlass Outstanding Achievement Award, New York. Balancing his commitment to studio practice with his desire to share knowledge, Rainey has lectured extensively around the world. He lectured at The Royal College of Art in London for seven years and was a Professor of Fine Art and Chair of the Glass Program at The California College of the Arts from 1991 through 2022. On October 8, 2017 at 10:30 p.m., Rainey and his partner, Rachel Riser, were awakened by a neighbor's frantic telephone call warning them that a wind-driven wildfire had kicked up and was blazing toward their shared Napa, California, residence. They needed to get out immediately. Far more devastating than the destruction of his home and studio was the complete loss of all the artwork on the property — not only two year's worth of work for an upcoming exhibition, but the artist's archive of drawings of every project he'd ever done, as well as a collection of his strongest work he was planning to donate to a museum. Rainey still resides in Napa, California, and in March 2024 took time away from rebuilding his studio to participate in an artist residency at the Museum of Glass, Tacoma. There, he advanced ideas and processes originally seen in works he lost to fire.
One of our favorite spots in the world turned 25 this week and this Silver Jubilee was one for the books. I chatted with several party attendees and the love for this place, along with its cultural significance to Orlando, is truly worth celebrating.https://linktr.ee/helloapgdpod

In 2016, Toronto journalist and journalism professor Adrian Ma received a special gift from his uncle while visiting Hong Kong – a bottle of whisky distilled in 1952, and released 25 years later to mark Queen Elizabeth's Silver Jubilee. Since then, the whisky enthusiast has grappled with how to honour such a meaningful present and precious piece of whisky history. Ma takes us on a journey to Scotland to discover more about the bottle's story while he contemplates whether to save, drink or sell it, in a documentary produced by CBC's Audio Doc Unit.

Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth Interview with “The Seekers” Founding Member, Keith Potger About Harvey's guest: Today's special guest, Keith Potger, is part of pop music royalty. He was a founding member of one of the most popular and beloved vocal groups in music history: The Seekers. With their signature fusion of folk and pop, their addictive instrumentations and perfect harmonies, and the amazing lead voice of Judith Durham, The Seekers were the first Australian music group to achieve global superstardom, selling well over 50 million records worldwide, and giving us such unforgettable songs as "I'll Never Find Another You", "A World of Our Own", "Morningtown Ride", “The Carnival is Over”, "Someday, One Day", "Georgy Girl", “When Will the Good Apples Fall”, and my personal favourite, “Walk With Me”, and so many more. After The Seekers disbanded in 1968, our guest founded The New Seekers, who achieved worldwide success in the early 70s with hits including “Never Ending Song of Love”, "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing", "You Won't Find Another Fool Like Me", “Look What They've Done to my Song, Ma”, and "Beg, Steal or Borrow". In 1992, The Seekers reunited for their Silver Jubilee, and they toured internationally for many years, and recorded 2 platinum-selling albums: “Future Road” and “Morningtown Ride to Christmas”. And in 2019, our guest, along with original members Athol Guy and Bruce Woodley, and with the addition of longtime producer, guitarist and singer Michael Cristiano, released an album as “The Original Seekers”, entitled “Back to our Roots”. There's also a wonderful live concert DVD entitled, “The Seekers Golden Jubilee Farewell Tour”. And most recently, a 3-CD compilation was released to mark the group's 60th anniversary, featuring the group's very last recording, “Carry Me”. Our guest, as a member of The Seekers, has a prestigious, prominent and permanent place in music history. The Seekers were honoured as Australians of The Year in 1967, the only group to have been given this acknowledgement. They've been inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association Hall of Fame, and the Music Victoria Hall of Fame, and in 1995 they were awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia. In 2012, the Seekers were honoured by the Australian Post Office with their own postage stamp. In 2013, The Seekers received the Ted Albert Award from the Australian Performing Rights Association for Outstanding Services to Australian Music. And in 2014, our guest, along with his fellow group members, was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia. But quite apart from all of that, our guest has had a highly successful career as a songwriter, record producer and solo performer. He's released 3 solo albums: “Secrets of The Heart”, “Sunday” and “Smile Now”. And he continues to perform in concert to sold out, wildly enthusiastic audiences. To mark the TENTH anniversary of the very first GttA podcast in July 2013 this is the first of a very special 4-part series of podcasts featuring music from each decade of the Army's existence right up to the present day.The Salvation Army began - as The Christian MIssion - in 1865 when William Booth preached outside The Blind Beggar pub in Whitechapel, East London. Spreading throughout the whole of England, Wales and Scotland in its first decade it became The Salvation Army in 1878, Booth taking on the mantle of the General of his army.Within 25 years, as we hear in this episode, 60,000 Salvationists could gather together at the Crystal Palace for a Silver Jubilee and today, 158 years after those humble beginnings the Army is at work in over 130 countries, right round the world. This episode uses music with its origins in the earliest 40 years of the movement's history 1865-1905, a surprising amount of which is still known and occasionally used in the present day. We hear music from writers such as Richard Slater, George Scott Railton, Kate and Herbert Booth (two of the Founder's children) and William Pearson as well as, of course, popular tunes of the day 'adopted and adapted' for the Army's mission a-plenty.Some of the music has been adapted by well-known composers like Ray Steadman-Allen, Norman Bearcroft and Leslie Condon and sections featured include the ISB and ISS, Hendon, Portsmouth, Stockholm and Boscombe Bands, songster brigades from Birmingham and Moonee Ponds, Sydney Australia and a stellar collection of soloists including Susan Turner, Fred Crowhurst, Kaytie Harding and Ian Johnston - not to mention Commissioner John Lawley himself!Enjoy this opportunity to transport yourself back in time to hear music and words with a relevance to the present age.God bless you all.Marc
When Bill Gargan was fired from Martin Kane he planned to star in a Broadway rendition of Doctor Knock. In late September of 1951, Gargan signed a one-million-dollar contract that made him the exclusive property of NBC for the next five years. The deal required him to participate in a minimum of four guest spots on radio and TV each year. At the same time, Gargan was invited by Frank Folsom of RCA to accompany him to Rome to meet the Pope. Along the way, Gargan went to Paris to appear in the October 7th, 1951 episode of The Big Show. He participated in a sketch involving a poker game with George Sanders, Fernand Gravey, and Meredith Willson. Two weeks after his Big Show appearance, William Gargan was starring in a new series for NBC. Launched as part of NBC's year-long Silver Jubilee, Barrie Crane, Confidential Investigator, first aired over NBC from New York on Wednesday October 3rd, 1951 at 10PM eastern time. Bill Gargan debuted as the detective opposite Mr. President on ABC, Frank Edwards on Mutual, and boxing on CBS. The show was directed by the just-heard Himan Brown. By 1952 Brown had been involved in radio for decades. The Barrie was inspired by the nickname of William Gargan's oldest son, then twenty-two. The title of the show was soon changed to Barrie Craig, Confidential Investigator. Episode three was called “The Judge and The Champ.” In conjunction with NBC's twenty-fifth anniversary, the network launched a series of both Radio and TV offerings highlighting the growth of NBC's technology, talent, infrastructure and advertising success. Block-sharing advertising was in full-effect. The network sold commercial time spots, rather than full shows and called it “Operation Tandem.” Gargan was back on The Big Show the next March 16th, 1952 to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with Tallulah Bankhead and good friend and fellow Catholic, Fred Allen. Now with transcription wide-spread, Barrie Craig could be heard on different days each week, based on the region. Listeners would also hear different commercials, depending on what local affiliate they were tuning into. These could also be a mix of local and national ad spots. Blocked-sharing was being used by the other networks. ABC touted theirs as 'The Pyramid Plan,' CBS as The Power Plan, and Mutual called their's MBS Plus. In a further refinement of MBS Plus, Mutual introduced an exclusive package of MGM programming for 1952. Both The Adventures of Harry Lime, and The Black Museum aired as part of this deal. For more information, tune into Breaking Walls episode 141. Launched with their tandem plan, NBC provided a "pay as you sell" opportunity for local affiliates. Local sponsors could pick from one-hundred-nineteen one-minute spots. The goal was to accommodate sponsors without a long contract. Craig occupied an office on the third floor of the Mercantile Building on Manhattan's Madison Avenue. Barrie Craig's writers included Frank Kane, Louis Vittes, John Roeburt, and Ernest Kinoy. William Gargan was supported by some of the finest east coast voice talents of the era. This included Santos Ortega, Elspeth Eric, Arlene Blackburn, Barbara Weeks, Joan Alexander, Parker Fennelly, Arnold Moss, Luis Van Rooten, and Herb Ellis. NBC announcers included Don Pardo and Ed King with John Daly as spokesperson for 1952 Pontiac spots and Carl Caruso for Bromo-Seltzer spots.
In this episode, hear Olly Belcher, Immediate Past President of the St Edmund Hall Association, in conversation with David Picksley who came up to the Hall in 1953 to read French and Russian. David's first memories go back to the 1930s where he recalls historic events such as George V's Silver Jubilee and George V1's Coronation! David was a school boy during World War 11 and tells us of the moment when he heard that the country was at war and then also what it was like when it ended. Years later, on his 50th birthday, David decided to take up serious running and in April 2023, he gained celebrity status for being the oldest participant in the London marathon at the age of 90! Spirit of the Hall podcast is produced by the St Edmund Hall Association, the voluntary alumni body independent which represents all Aularians. The views and opinions expressed in the podcast are those of the speakers and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of the Association, St Edmund Hall or the University of Oxford.

My final 1983 gig-going-entry recaps a couple of shows I took in during a crazy/nuts four-day trip to NYC. While I will be discussing the performances by hardcore titans The Circle Jerks and post-Throbbing Gristle offshoot Psychic TV, I'll also be looking at the madcap trip to Manhattan as a whole, recounting the hijinks that MZ, Miss B, myself, and others got up to. If you've heard or read EP 25 on the Flipper show at Fryfogle's, then you'll have somewhat of an idea of what to expect.Tune in for destroyed hotel rooms; terrified cousins; "Peace, Love and Groove!"; Danceteria bathroom hallucinations; Brooke Shields' husband, Broadway Bob; and pterodactyls and manifestations. You can also read the original blog entries for The Circle Jerks and for the Psychic TV show on the mylifeinconcert.com blog. Next On Stage –> I am jumping back further into the past as I recall a cabaret show that happened between my first and second “official” gigs (Roxy Music at the London Arena on February 5, 1975 and Bob Seger at the London Gardens on May 19, 1978). I saw the cabaret in Portsmouth, England, in August 1977, and it featured early-60s popster Susan Maughan, she of the 1962 hit, “Bobby's Girl,” and possibly the legendary Tessie O'Shea. I had initially planned to discuss it as part of upcoming compilation episode but have instead decided to make it a stand-alone episode. The EP's Special Guest is my 96-year-old mother—we'll call her Vera Various Artists—who attended the cabaret along with me and my late father. My mum shares her vague memories of the evening, including that she feels the legendary Tessie O'Shea was on the bill. If my mother is right, then boy do I wish I could remember that. I wouldn't have known who she was then but I sure do now. We do both remember humourist Pam Ayers and the Famous People Players being part of the show. My mother also recalls the venue itself, the Portsmouth The Hippodrome but also The King's Theatre in Southsea, as she grew up in Petersfield, but later moved to Portsmouth after marrying my dad, and both my elder siblings were born there. In the interview, she discusses listening to the radio as well as records in the UK as a girl in the ‘30s, and also music and live shows she enjoyed after to moving to Canada in the mid-50s and onwards. I also talk about my experiences on this trip in the ultimate UK punk year—1977—amid the Queen's Silver Jubilee. Tune in for dangerous radio batteries, hanging out in British record stores to hear the latest releases, what double album of my mum's drove me nuts in the ‘70s, punk rock mania, not seeing The Sex Pistols, and what Ethel Merman was really like live. That's all coming up in Episode 31, Concert no. 001.5, entitled UK 1977: VA's Mum on Ethel Merman and Susan Maughan at the Portsmouth Hippodrome and the Music of Her Life + My UK Trip Amid the Year of the Punk Rock Explosion and Silver Jubilee mylifeinconcert.com
I am BEYOND EXCITED that we are joined by my OG Idol, Billie Piper, who made the first album I ever bought - fun fact! Believe it or not, Billie first burst into our lives 25 years ago - so this is technically the Silver Jubilee of Queen Billie, which should be a national holiday, right? As a 15 year old popstar, Billie became the youngest person ever to go straight to number one with the eternal bop, Because We Want To before going on to land two more number one singles with Girlfriend and Day & Night. How her hit, Honey 2 The Bee wasn't ever a number one is still an injustice that haunts me until this day. But here we are… Billie then turned to acting with the comeback of Doctor Who starring as the Doctor's assistant, Rose Tyler opposite Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant and The Secret Diary of A Call Girl. Billie even continued to set records with her new career path by winning all six of the possible best stage actress awards, including an Olivier award, for her stage debut in Yerma. Now Billie is back with the second season of the BAFTA nominated TV show, I Hate Suzie, which she co-created with Succession writer, Lucy Prebble. If you haven't watched the first season of the show, it follows the former child star, Suzie Pickles as her life implodes when private images of her leak online. And let me tell you RIGHT NOW, the second season is just as good as the first with more twists and turns for our anti-hero, Suzie. I Hate Suzie Too is available on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW from 20 December.Today Billie joins us to talk about being a horny dancer (same here!) - tis the season, after all - and how exploring anxiety and mental health on I Hate Suzie has impacted her own well being. Billie also opens up about how seeing her 14 year old son grow up has made her reflect further on her own teenage stardom and the advice she wishes she could go back and give her popstar self. She also shares some great words about balance and pressure which I think we all need to hear and will relate to, and about finding a new level of confidence turning 40 this year. Billie Piper is still THE coolest person on the planet in my mind, so I hope you love this chat just as much as me as it really shows just how this icon has managed to stay relevant for a quarter of a century across so many disciplines. If you have missed any of the episodes of Reign Season six go check them out now - we've been joined by some truly inspiring people from Chloe Grace Moretz to Lena Dunham. Former Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon has said it is "tasteless" to endorse requests in connection with the band's punk anthem God Save The Queen after the monarch's death. Lydon, known by his stage name Johnny Rotten, wrote the lyrics to the 1977 hit which was released during the monarch's Silver Jubilee, before being banned by the BBC.LyricsGod save the queenThe fascist regimeThey made you a moronA potential H bombGod save the queenShe's not a human beingand There's no futureAnd England's dreamingDon't be told what you wantDon't be told what you needThere's no futureNo futureNo future for youGod save the queenWe mean it manWe love our queenGod savesGod save the queen'Cause tourists are moneyAnd our figureheadIs not what she seemsOh God save historyGod save your mad paradeOh Lord God have mercyAll crimes are paidOh when there's no futureHow can there be sinWe're the flowersIn the dustbinWe're the poisonIn your human machineWe're the futureYour futureGod save the queenWe mean it manWe love our queenGod savesGod save the queenWe mean it manThere's no futureIn England's dreaming God save the queenNo futureNo futureNo future for youNo futureNo futureNo future for meNo futureNo futureNo future for youThe Sex Pistols were an English punk rock band that was formed in London in 1975. Although their initial career lasted just two and a half years, they are one of the most groundbreaking acts in the history of popular music. They were responsible for initiating the punk movement in the United Kingdom and inspiring many later punk and alternative rock musicians. Their fashion and hairstyles were a significant influence on punk image, and they are often associated with anarchism within the music.ArTEEtude is West Cork´s podcast for Art, [digital] Culture and true stories, created and produced by Detlef Schlich. Schlich operates with his podcast cross-sectorally. For him, a visual artist has to think transversely instead of just enjoying the luxury of being the antagonist. To drive the narrative and be a protagonist, he will dive and discover with us into the unknown and exciting deep ocean of the creative mind. Detlef Schlich is Podcaster, Visual Artist, Film Maker, Ritual Designer and Media Archaeologist, living and loving in West Cork and best known for his Essay about the Cause and Effect of Shamanism, Art and Digital Culture and the video installation Transodin´s Tragedy. He mainly works in performance, photography, painting, sound, installations, and film. To research our human condition and create artwork from this reflection he is often using the methodology of the digital shaman as alter ego. His media archaeology is a conceptual and practical exercise in carving out the aesthetic, cultural, and political singularities of media in culture.WEBSITE LINKSDetlef SchlichInstagramDetlef Schlich ArTEEtude I love West Cork Artists FacebookDetlef Schlich I love West Cork Artists Group ArTEEtudeYouTube Channelsvisual PodcastArTEEtudeCute Alien TV official WebsiteArTEEtude Detlef Schlich Det Design Tribal Loop Download here for free Detlef Schlich´s Essay about the Cause and Effect of Shamanism, Art and Digital Culturehttps://www.researchgate.net/publication/303749640_Shamanism_Art_and_Digital_Culture_Cause_and_EffectSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/arteetude-a-podcast-with-artists-by-detlef-schlich/donations

Find out all about the Silver Jubilee of King George V in May 1935 in this podcast episode in our Stories from St Paul's series. It was the first ever Silver Jubilee to be celebrated by a British monarch, and the celebrations began with a special Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul's on the 6th May – where the two young royal princesses, Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret were in attendance – along with a congregation of 4,500. Produced and presented by Douglas Anderson.
I had a real scoop this month. For our Draycott Diaries Jubilee Special, I chat with internationally acclaimed choral conductor, composer and organist Barry Rose OBE. As resident organist and Master of the Choir at St Paul's Cathedral in London from 1974, Barry participated in many royal services. These included the 1977 Silver Jubilee and […] The post 053 Draycott's Jubilee Celebration appeared first on Draycott Diaries Village Podcast.

The UK is marking Queen Elizabeth’s platinum jubilee – it’s been 70 years since she ascended to the British throne. Helen O’Connor reveals her family’s special connection to Elizabeth II.
It's all eyes on the Queen as the nation celebrates Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee, now known on the rocket as 'Platty Joobs.' Our co-pilots are struck by the parallels between this landmark event and another, the Silver Jubilee in 1977, which also fell during a period of political and economic uncertainty. Liam thinks while the mood is celebratory at the moment, all bets are off once the Jubilee has finished, as political scandals and the cost of living crisis return to the headlines. He urges Rishi Sunak to do more to relieve vulnerable households, but warns cash splashes aren't the answer and could lead to the collapse of the pound and higher interest in the long run. Allison agrees that the Prime Minister and Chancellor's recent spending pledges have seemed more 'Winnie the Pooh' than Conservative. She thinks the real threat for the Tories is going to come from within their own party. Also hopping aboard the rocket this week to help cut through any confusion surrounding the economic crisis, is leading economist and Telegraph columnist, Roger Bootle, who tells our co-pilots he is flabbergasted at how the Bank of England dropped the ball on rising inflation and discuss the dangers of groupthink in our financial institutions. And, our co-pilots have some advice for any Planet Normal residents planning their own jubilee celebrations.Read more from Allison: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/authors/a/ak-ao/allison-pearson/ |Read more from Liam: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/authors/liam-halligan/ |Read more from Roger: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/authors/r/rk-ro/roger-bootle/ | Listen to Chopper's Politics: Listen to Chopper's Politics: https://www.playpodca.st/chopper |Need help subscribing or reviewing? The Sex Pistols' anti-establishment single ‘God Save The Queen' was banned by the BBC when it was re-released on 27th May, 1977 by Virgin Records - mischievously, to tie-in with the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. To rub salt in the wound, the band's ‘art-school punk' manager, Malcolm McLaren, arranged a boat procession outside the Houses of Parliament so the group could perform the song outside the heart of British government itself. They were then arrested. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly explain how Johnny Rotten and co were just as commercially savvy as they were sincerely punk activists; consider whether there are parts of the controversial lyrics which which conservative royalists might actually agree; and investigate whether the single (and not Rod Stewart's ‘I Don't Want To Talk About It') *actually* got to Number 1 in the charts… Further Reading: • ‘The Story Behind The Song: 'God Save The Queen'' (Far Out Magazine, 2020): https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/sex-pistols-god-save-the-queen-story-behind-the-song/ • ‘Still a fascist regime?
