The Texas Longhorns football team plays a game tomorrow. Not in 90 days, not in 60 days, but tomorrow. We've made it folks. All offseason, Texas fans had to deal with the stench that was left from the Longhorns going 5-7 in the first season of Steve Sarkisian's tenure at the 40. Coming into this season, there were major question marks personnel wise and the need for fresh blood on the coaching staff as well. With new electricity in the building on the coaching staff in the form of Brennan Marion, Tashard Choice and Gary Patterson alongside big-time offseason additions in Quinn Ewers, Agiye Hall, Isiah Neyor, Kelvin Banks, Justice Finkley and more, there is optimism in Austin that things may turn around for the Longhorns in 2022. The first game on the Texas schedule this season comes against the University of Louisiana Monroe Warhawks. The Longhorns should win this game pretty easily, however there will be some very interesting storylines to look out for in this game. Quinn Ewers will be starting in his first meaningful football game since 2020, how will he look at quarterback? 57 out of 85 scholarship players on this football team are freshman or sophomores. Depending on the score, when does Sark and his staff decide to start rotating in younger players on the depth chart to get some valuable reps? How does the defense look against an inferior opponent after not having a great showing in 2021? Will Sark open up the playbook against Louisiana Monroe or will he keep some things in his back pocket in preparation for the Alabama Crimson Tide? This is a Texas team that has aspirations of making the Big 12 championship game in December. Although it's cliche, this team truly has to take things one game at a time. That starts with taking care of business against an inferior opponent tomorrow in Louisiana Monroe. Will Texas cover the -38.5 points? How many points will Texas score? I'm not sure I have a definitive answer to either of those two questions. However, the only two numbers that truly matter are 1-0. Cheers to better days ahead at the 40 acres ladies and gentlemen. The Texas Longhorns wasted no time in filling the hole left by Stan Drayton's move to the Temple Owls, filling his post as running backs coach with Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets star and coach Tashard Choice. Choice, known as an up-and-comer in the coaching industry, can hopefully fill the shoes left by Drayton both as a developer and recruiter. However, Texas has another hole to fill in its coaching staff as Steve Sarkisian is reportedly parting ways with wide receivers coach Andre Coleman, who's been on the Texas staff since 2019 when he joined as an analyst. Texas also lost depth in the quarterback room, as quarterback Casey Thompson decided to take his talents elsewhere following the addition of Quinn Ewers to the roster.
