Author and journalist Eric Rozenman joins Eve Harow to discuss his newest book, the David Discovery. It's a factionalized account of where a future messiah might be hiding in plain sight and the historical events that got him this far. They share thoughts on current events as well, the lack of truth seeking and the speed at which it's all occurring. A Novel of the Near Future is the subtitle. How near is the big question.

A dedicated effort to learn more about Native elders living in urban areas reveals they suffer a high rate of chronic illnesses and have limited social interactions. Those conclusions come from the most recent Native Urban Elder Needs Assessment Survey that aims to fill a void of information about the needs of Native American elders — the vast majority of whom live in cities. The survey is among the efforts to better understand and provide effective services for Native elders. The effort is all the more pressing as federal cuts to Medicaid and Medicare approach, costs for medical care rise, and pressure increases to cut support for the Indian Health Service. GUESTS Dr. Collette Adamson (Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians), director of the National Resource Center on Native American Aging and research assistant professor at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences University of North Dakota Michael Bird (Kewa Pueblo and Ohkay Owingeh), past president of the American Public Health Association and past national consultant for AARP Dr. Emily Haozous (Fort Sill Chiricahua-Warm Springs Apache Tribe), research scientist for the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation

Welcome to episode #1029 of Thinking With Mitch Joel (formerly Six Pixels of Separation). These days, technology feels both familiar… and completely unrecognizable. Few voices bring the kind of clarity and grounded perspective that David Armano does. A longtime digital strategist, advisor, self-proclaimed futurist and friend, David has spent decades at the front lines of transformation… helping organizations navigate everything from the rise of social media to the mobile-first revolution, and now the seismic shift of artificial intelligence. In his current role at Launch by NTT Data, he works directly with enterprises trying to make sense of AI not as a tool, but as a system-wide change that touches people, process and culture. Alongside this, his widely read Substack, David by Design has become a space where he explores what he calls "intelligent experiences, "and the broader societal implications of living in a world shaped by AI. In this conversation, David frames AI as both a continuation of past technological waves and something entirely new, with a cognitive reach that extends far beyond previous disruptions. He reflects on how organizations are grappling with adoption - often caught between experimentation and transformation - while individuals face a more personal tension: the realization that the very tools augmenting their work may also replace it. At the same time, David pushes beyond the typical optimism-versus-doom narrative, offering a more nuanced lens rooted in what he calls "adapting intelligently"… a form of realism that acknowledges both the extraordinary upside and the very real societal risks. From the emergence of an "intelligence wealth gap" to the psychological impact of algorithmic systems, we explore how AI may amplify both opportunity and inequality… rewarding those who learn to direct it while leaving others increasingly dependent on it. Grounded in both professional experience and personal reflection, this is a conversation about change at every level… not just technological, but human. Enjoy the conversation… Running time: 1:00:57 Hello from beautiful Montreal. Listen and subscribe over at Apple Podcasts. Listen and subscribe over at Spotify. Schade, GOOD LUCK, HAVE FUN, DON'T DIE hätte ein überzeugenderes Ende verdient. Am Mikrofon direkt nach dem Film: Johanna, Heidi, Hendrik, Harald, Tom und Thomas.

In MobileViews 597, recorded on February 15, 2026, Jon Westfall and I noted the upcoming the Lunar New Year while tackling the frustrations of modern tech ecosystems. I kicked things off with a double-header rant: first, my recurring battle with leaking alkaline batteries in my mouse and other devices, and second, Microsoft's decision to force Clipchamp (a video editor) users to store massive video files on OneDrive. With my upload speeds maxing out at 25 megabits, uploading gigabyte-sized files is simply unworkable, so I've officially pivoted to the open-source video editor Shotcut. We also explored the "bane of existence" for educators: the limitations of Chromebooks. Jon shared his struggles with students who, having grown up in managed K-12 Chrome environments, often struggle with standard file permissions and workflows when transitioning to college and professional platforms.   Jon detailed his upgrade to the Backbone Pro gaming controller—praising its integrated battery and Bluetooth versatility—while looking forward to a future M5 Mac Mini to handle local LLM heavy lifting. I'm personally keeping an eye on rumors of an affordable A18 Pro-based MacBook that Jon noted could potentially disrupt the education sector. Between my nostalgia for coding in a 208-byte space on an Apple II and Jon's modern Python toolkit involving pyenv and PyInstaller, we emphasize that efficiency must remain a priority, even as software becomes more bloated. Whether it's navigating the "AI search" changes in Google Photos or finding ways around "vibe coding" errors, we're still looking for tech that just works.

In other words, to make room to expand the "Big Four" of FCS football — North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Montana State, Montana — to the "Big Five?"USD has made three consecutive quarterfinals, something NDSU and SDSU — who have split the last four national titles, two apiece — can't say after losing in the round of 16 on Saturday (but the Bobcats and the Grizzlies can).Unlike the Big Four, the Coyotes haven't played in an FCS national title game within the last four years, or ever. We'll find out how they stack up against a blue blood Saturday on ABC in a time window when Army-Navy will be the only other football game to watch on over-the-air TV.But Sioux Falls Live sports editor Matt Zimmer and Happy Hour host John Gaskins dig in to what three years of USD reaching this round means, particularly for a 2025 team that has won five consecutive games — four against ranked teams — and left a 47-0 bruise on SoCon champ Mercer, the nation's best (statistical) offense and rush defense, by holding the Bears to 277 total yards (227 short of their average) and bulldozing them for 316 rushing yards (226 over their average). So, will the Coyotes stack up to the Grizzlies better than the Jackrabbits, who were 50-burgered? Zim and John kick that around as well in this week's edition of their five-years-and-running weekly podcast "Nobody's Listening Anyway."Also on the docket:* Why is Zim happy for Jimmy Rogers at Iowa State, and why does he find it nonsense to bash his character for leaving Washington State after less than a year to take his third head coaching job in four years? And why, in hindsight, was he still the best choice to take over for John Stiegelmeier?* Why does Zim feel Chase Mason doesn't need to go to the Big Ten or SEC or any FBS school to show NFL pros he is worthy of an early rounds NFL Draft selection?* What is Zim's sense of how many SDSU players who aren't out of eligibility will stick around?* Does NDSU's early round exit from the FCS Playoffs make the postseason more interesting or more boring? Does it make the FCS stronger? Does it strengthen or weaken the case that the Bison should want to stay in the FCS?* Oh, and should James Madison's entry into the CFB Playoffs make the case for NDSU and SDSU to "move up?" Actually, Zim says no. Why?* Bowl games — yeah, their prestige has been weakened over the decades by the sheer volume of them, the number of top players sitting them out, and now the number of teams refusing to play in them. Does that mean they should all go away? Zim says no. Hear why.

Climate Migration Is Inevitable: The Global South, the Four Horsemen, and the Necessity of Movement. Gaia Vince's book, Nomad Century: How Climate Migration Will Reshape Our World, examines the statistics warning that the climate of the near future will be dramatically different. Vince emphasizes that climate migration is "very much underway" and inevitable, highlighting the plight of Abel Cruz, a farmer in rural Peru who moved to Lima due to drought but became part of the growing global south slums. The phenomenon of the global south moving north is overwhelming, as the tropics are becoming dangerous and unlivable, compelling people to move to higher latitudes in the northern temperate zone, which are generally wealthier and better equipped to adapt. Vince refers to the primary threats that force movement as the "four horsemen of the Anthropocene": fire, heat, flood, and drought, which destroy livelihoods and property. 1956

Ted Cruz compares FCC Chair Carr to Mafia boss in Jimmy Kimmel warningsRepublican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas sharply criticized Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr for his comments related to late-night host Jimmy Kimmel shortly before ABC pulled his show off the air.Cruz said he took issue with Carr threatening to cancel ABC's broadcast license over Kimmel's remarks about the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.“He says, ‘We can do this the easy way, or we can do this the hard way,'” the senator said of Carr in the latest episode of his podcast, “Verdict with Ted Cruz,” which aired Friday morning.“And I gotta say, that's right out of ‘Goodfellas,'” Cruz said, referring to the classic mob film.“That's right out of a mafioso coming into a bar going, ‘Nice bar you have here, it'd be a shame if something happened to it,'” he said.“Look, I like Brendan Carr. He's a good guy, he's the chairman of the FCC. I work closely with him, but what he said there is dangerous as hell,” Cruz said at another point in the episode.Cruz's comments put him at odds with President Donald Trump, who applauded Kimmel's suspension and later called Carr “outstanding.”Cruz said he's no fan of Kimmel's and that he is “thrilled that he was fired” over his comments about Kirk.“But let me tell you, if the government gets in the business of saying, ‘We don't like what you the media have said, we're going to ban you from the airwaves if you don't say what we like,' that will end up bad for conservatives,” Cruz said.Kimmel, who has been suspended but not fired, said in his opening monologue Monday night that “the MAGA gang” is “desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”On Wednesday, Carr slammed Kimmel at length during an appearance on right-wing commentator Benny Johnson's podcast.ABC has “a license granted by us at the FCC, and that comes with it an obligation to operate in the public interest,” Carr said.“But frankly, when you see stuff like this, I mean, look, we can do this the easy way or the hard way,” he said. “These companies can find ways to change conduct, to take action, frankly, on Kimmel, or you know, there's going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”Hours later, ABC and Nexstar Media Group, which hosts ABC-affiliated local stations, pre-empted “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” indefinitely.Nexstar in August announced a planned $6.2 billion acquisition of Tegna — a merger that will require the FCC's approval.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
