A dedicated effort to learn more about Native elders living in urban areas reveals they suffer a high rate of chronic illnesses and have limited social interactions. Those conclusions come from the most recent Native Urban Elder Needs Assessment Survey that aims to fill a void of information about the needs of Native American elders — the vast majority of whom live in cities. The survey is among the efforts to better understand and provide effective services for Native elders. The effort is all the more pressing as federal cuts to Medicaid and Medicare approach, costs for medical care rise, and pressure increases to cut support for the Indian Health Service. I'm personally keeping an eye on rumors of an affordable A18 Pro-based MacBook that Jon noted could potentially disrupt the education sector. Between my nostalgia for coding in a 208-byte space on an Apple II and Jon's modern Python toolkit involving pyenv and PyInstaller, we emphasize that efficiency must remain a priority, even as software becomes more bloated. Hope has been expressed that the county's first dog park in Shannon will open in the near future. At this week's meeting of Shannon Municipal District, Fine Gael Councillor Tony Mulcahy requested an update on the progress of the park, which is being funded by councillor's GMA.
