Steve is a highly respected music journalist and author of more than 1,000 articles and seven books, delving into the lives of iconic figures like Jeff Beck, Prince, Bruce Springsteen, and Black Sabbath.  His latest endeavor, ‘Tonechaser – Understanding Edward: My 26-Year Journey with Edward Van Halen', was published in 2022. The book offers an intimate perspective on the guitar virtuoso and Steve's friendship with him from 1977 to 2003.  In the introduction to the book, Steve writes, “What you will read here is not a biography, a history, or an exacting chronology. You won't find discussions about tapping, taping, or touring. There are no in-depth analyses of album releases or his profound and absolute rewriting of the entire canon of electric guitar playing. . . . The entire library represents well over 1,500 hours of content, with hundreds and hundreds of classic rock's most-engaging, enraging and entrancing characters, including Edward Van Halen. This archival process led to the unearthing of what Rosen called “The Twilight Tapes”—50 interviews representing hours of late-night phone calls with the Van Halen guitarist, who happened to become a very close friend over the years. “The Twilight Tapes” sparked the idea to sit down to write TONECHASER in 2020 and the rest, as they say, is rock and roll history.

It all started back at The Whisky a Go Go on the Sunset Strip when Steve Rosen, an up and coming music journalist met a young up and coming guitarist by the name of Edward Van Halen. The two hit it off immediately and Steve documented the rise of Edward's band for the next 26 years through numerous interviews . Darren and Steve talk with music journalist Steven Rosen, author of the huge and awesome book, "Tonechaser: Understanding Edward: My 26-Year Journey With Edward Van Halen." The book tells the tale of Rosen's friendship with Eddie, from first their meeting (at a Cheap Trick show at the Whisky A Go Go in Los Angeles in 1977!) to how it ended in 2003, and everything in between. Steven tells how, after many years, he ended up writing the book, the labor of love and dedication it became -- 580 pages! -- Neil Zlozower contributing never-before-published photos, his thoughts on Valerie Bertinelli, Michael Anthony, David Lee Roth (of course!), playing guitar with Eddie, interviewing him multiple times and a lot more.  At the top, your "DLR Cast" hosts touch on the little bit of Dave and DLR-releated news, and the lack thereof.
