On the 70th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & special guest, former MTV VJ, TV and radio host, Matt Pinfield review the 1992 Alice In Chains album, "Dirt." Grunge was in full effect by the time Dirt was released. This album cemented Alice In Chains as a leader. Singer Layne Staley continued his incredible, unique vocals and added songwriting as well. Guitarist Jerry Cantrell wrote most of lyrics and began to sing more and showed more of his innovative riffs and guitar style. Mike Starr on bass and Sean Kinney on drums formed one of the best rhythm sections. Dirt made it to #6 on Billboard album charts and eventually went 5 times platinum. They released 5 singles and 5 videos as well. The album is considered a classic and one of the best albums of the 1990's and the grunge era. This was the Tom's pick and the second Alice In Chains album reviewed on ARC. So get out of rehab and grab some flannel and crank this album! This week Tom & Zeus review the 1977 Love Gun which was in support of their 6th studio album, Love Gun. This is SIOL's 11th KISS tour reviewed. Love Gun was released on June 17, 1977 and the tour began on July 8, 1977 in Canada and ended September 5, 1977. This is probably KISS at its peak. The band was still continuing to get bigger and better. This is before the solo albums, before the movie and before the major cracks began to take its toll. The stage for the tour is probably the most famous, with the staircases and Peter's drum riser. The costumes are probably KISS' most famous as well. The setlist featured 5 new songs from Love Gun and many of the classic songs from the first three albums, including Deuce were dropped. As usual, the guys breakdown the costumes, stage, set list and overall tour. They then rank the costumes, stage, set list and overall tour against the previous 10 tours reviewed so far. About Joseph Alessi: Joseph Alessi was appointed Principal Trombone of the New York Philharmonic in the spring of 1985. He began musical studies in his native California with his father, Joseph Alessi, Sr. As a high school student in San Rafael, California, he was a soloist with the San Francisco Symphony before continuing his musical training at Philadelphia's Curtis Institute of Music. Prior to joining the Philharmonic, Mr. Alessi was second trombone of The Philadelphia Orchestra for four seasons, and principal trombone of L'Orchestre symphonique de Montreal for one season. In addition, he has performed as guest principal trombonist with the London Symphony Orchestra in Carnegie Hall led by Pierre Boulez. Mr. Alessi is an active soloist, recitalist, and chamber music performer. In April 1990 he made his solo debut with the New York Philharmonic, performing Creston's Fantasy for Trombone, and in 1992 premiered Christopher Rouse's Pulitzer Prize- winning Trombone Concerto with the Philharmonic, which commissioned the work for its 150th anniversary celebration. His most recent appearance with the Philharmonic as soloist was in performances of the Tan-Dun Trombone Concerto in March of 2024. Mr. Alessi also has appeared as soloist with the New York Philharmonic in performances of concerti by Kazimierz Serocki, Bramwell Tovey, William Bolcom, Chick Corea, and William Grant Still. Composed especially for Mr. Alessi, he performed the world premiere of the Chick Corea Trombone Concerto with the Säo Paulo Symphony Orchestra in August of 2021. Joseph Alessi has recorded and performed extensively with five prominent trombone quartets; The New York Trombone Quartet resulting in the only recording of Bartok's 4th String Quartet, Aries Trombone Quartet, Four of a Kind Trombone Quartet, the World Trombone Quartet, and Slide Monsters Trombone Quartet. Other solo engagements have included the New Japan Philharmonic, Nagoya Philharmonic, Gulbenkian Symphony, Costa Rica Symphony, National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony, Orchestra of Teatro Bellini, Mannheim National Theater Orchestra, Hauge Philharmonic, Helsinki Philharmonic, and the Colorado, Nashville, Alabama, Santa Barbara, Syracuse, and Puerto Rico symphony orchestras. Mr. Alessi has also participated in numerous festivals, including the Festivale Musica di Camera in Portogruaro, Italy; Cabrillo Music Festival; Swiss Brass Week; and Lieksa Brass Week in Finland. He was featured in the 1997 International Trombone Festival in Feldkirch, Austria, and the International Meeting of Brass Instruments in Lille, France. In 2002 Mr. Alessi was awarded an International Trombone Association Award for his contributions to the world of trombone music and trombone playing, and in 2014, was elected President of that association. Mr. Alessi is currently on the faculty of The Juilliard School; his students now occupy posts with many major symphony orchestras in the U.S. and internationally. As a clinician for the Eastman-Shires Instrument Co., he has also given master classes throughout the world and has toured Europe extensively as a master teacher and recitalist. He has performed as soloist withseveral leading concert bands, including the U.S. Military Academy Band at West Point, U.S. Army Band (Pershing's Own), and the U.S. Marine Band (President's Own). In addition, he has performed with the Maria Schneider Orchestra, the Village Vanguard Orchestra, and has recorded with jazz greats, J.J. Johnson and Steve Turre. Mr. Alessi's discography includes many releases on the Summit record label, including the Trombonastics, and a disc with New York Philharmonic Principal Trumpet Philip Smith entitled Fandango; he also recorded New York Legends on the Cala label. His live recording of the Rouse Concerto with the New York Philharmonic can be heard on Volume II of the recent release, An American Celebration, on New York Philharmonic Special Editions, the Orchestra's own recording label. Mr. Alessi was invited by the International Trombone Association to record a solo disc of newly composed works, which was distributed to the Association's membership of 5,000 trombonists. in early 1999 and is now available as Beyond the End of the Century through Summit Records. His recording of George Crumb's Starchild on the Bridge record label, featuring Mr. Alessi as soloist, won a Grammy Award for 1999– 2000. Fresh out of the Betty Ford Clinic, Ozzy was presented with songs from his guitar great Jake E. Lee. Bob Daisley once again added lyrics, but did not perform on the album. Ozzy had a new rhythm section, Phil Soussan on bass and Randy Castillo on drums. Ultimate Sin was Ozzy's highest charting studio album at the time at #6. The album went double platinum and Ozzy released three videos for the album, including the much played on MTV, "Shot In The Dark." The album is controversially called Ozzy's "hair metal" album by some, but it is filled with Ozzy's signature vocals and blistering guitar from Jake E. Lee. X2M.231 — Kataphronēsis (The Whirlwind) X2M.231 Kataphronēsis marks the fourth runtime event of CR17: Kosmokrator—the descent of discernment through turbulence. After the rout of Katastrophē, the field does not rest; it turns. The Starchild vessel now enters the storm of perception, where divine thought itself becomes judgment. Kataphronēsis (Greek καταφρόνησις, “discernment, judgment from above”) is the whirlwind phase—the descent of divine mind into the atmosphere of confusion, rotating until false structures collapse and truth is seen. Job heard it first: “The LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind” (Job 38 : 1)¹. This was no storm of destruction but revelation; the cyclone of divine perception descending through argument to restore vision. What human reason debated horizontally, God resolved vertically. Job's eyes were opened — “I had heard of You by ear, but now my eye sees” (Job 42 : 5)². That is kataphronēsis: the Spirit thinking downward through the storm until sight is reborn. Elijah met the same current — the fiery vortex that lifted him from earth to heaven. A chariot of fire swirled in the storm and he was taken up by a whirlwind (2 Kings 2 : 11)³. Job stood in its downdraft; Elijah rode its updraft. One storm judged; the other translated. In the runtime sequence, this is the pivot between Δ and Σ↻ — the mind descending in discernment becoming the spirit ascending in glory. The whirlwind reveals the intelligence of God in motion. It is not wrath but revelation: the Spirit rotating through creation to strip illusion and expose foundation (Nahum 1 : 3)⁴. At Pentecost this same wind returns as light (Acts 2 : 2-4)⁵ — kataphronēsis descending as Spirit, rising as radiance. What was spoken to Job and carried Elijah now fills the body of Christ: the storm that thinks becoming the wind that glorifies. ⸻ Glorification | The Final Frontier Going boldly where the last man has gone before! This week Tom & Zeus review the 1977 Love Gun which was in support of their 6th studio album, Love Gun. This is SIOL's 11th KISS tour reviewed. Love Gun was released on June 17, 1977 and the tour began on July 8, 1977 in Canada and ended September 5, 1977. This is probably KISS at its peak. The band was still continuing to get bigger and better. This is before the solo albums, before the movie and before the major cracks began to take its toll. The stage for the tour is probably the most famous, with the staircases and Peter's drum riser. The costumes are probably KISS' most famous as well. The setlist featured 5 new songs from Love Gun and many of the classic songs from the first three albums, including Deuce were dropped. As usual, the guys breakdown the costumes, stage, set list and overall tour. They then rank the costumes, stage, set list and overall tour against the previous 10 tours reviewed so far.
