When I sat down with Casimir Sienkiewicz (CAZ) from CazTek, I immediately connected with his story because it reminded me so much of the journeys so many shop owners go through. What started with a Bridgeport mill in a garage has evolved over the last 22 years into a growing engineering and precision machining company tackling everything from advanced prototypes to 5-axis machining, Swiss work, automation assemblies, and aerospace and medical projects. But what really stood out to me wasn't just the equipment or the growth. It was Casimir's mindset around creativity, problem-solving, and continuously evolving as a business owner. One of the themes throughout this conversation is how closely personal growth and business growth are tied together. Casimir talked openly about the realization that he had to stop trying to personally carry every responsibility inside the company if he wanted the business to scale. Like many entrepreneurs, he built the company through grit, technical skill, and sheer determination. But eventually, that approach created bottlenecks. Bringing in strong leaders, defining core values, implementing systems, and learning to trust his team became the next phase of growth for both him and the company. We also spent a lot of time talking about the intersection of engineering and manufacturing. CazTek isn't just a machine shop. Their team works through the entire product development lifecycle, from early concepts and mechanical engineering all the way through machining, assembly, testing, and production. That end-to-end visibility gives their employees a unique sense of purpose because they get to see how the products they design and manufacture actually impact the world, whether it's medical devices, aerospace hardware, or industrial systems. This episode is packed with lessons around scaling a manufacturing business, building the right culture, implementing systems like EOS, adopting new technology, and creating an organization that can grow sustainably. Casimir brings a thoughtful and honest perspective to the conversation, and I think listeners will really relate to the challenges, mistakes, and breakthroughs he shares along the way. Bob shares stories from his furniture-making days, including secret compartments, his "high country style" designs, and why he believes in over-delivering on every order. What does it take to finish a record that's been living in your head for two decades? In Episode 284, Jim Exon traces the long arc of Nashville Sessions — a country-leaning album shaped by time, persistence, and a deep bench of collaborators, including Jeff Silbar, Ron Wallace, and lyrics by Gay Hendricks. Alongside Martin Young, Exon brings a distinctly Ojai-rooted project into authentic Nashville form. Before the studio, there was the road — years managing and representing Maynard Ferguson — and before that, the Sunset Strip grind as a working musician. We talk about how the music business has changed, what collaborators really contribute, and the rare discipline it takes to finally finish what you started. We did not talk about Canary Islands' whistle language, Ernest Shackleton or the impact of Charlemagne's missi domenici. A conversation about craft, time, and getting it done. Guided by values like “Sturms never quit,” Glenn shares how he pursues passion, spreads positivity, and refuses to let cancer define his life. Originally given 2.5 years to live, he's now looking at 30—crediting team-based care and self-advocacy. #226 - You think you want to live abroad until you're standing in a Shanghai apartment you barely recognize, sleeping on a mattress that feels like concrete, and realizing you can't read a single sign outside your window. Jeff Lewis did exactly that, on a timeline so fast he had to get a same day passport and a same day visa just to make it happen. What started as a recession driven job scramble became four years of international teaching, culture shock, and the kind of growth you only get when your normal tools don't work anymore. We talk through the full arc of expat life in China: arriving alone while his wife waits on paperwork, learning the unwritten rules of traffic and daily errands, and figuring out how a newly married couple stays connected when everything around them is unfamiliar. Jeff shares what people romanticize about living abroad and what they leave out, from language barriers and “bad China days” to the strange comfort of tracking down a mediocre hamburger because it tastes like home. He also explains how travel around China worked before smartphones, and how those weekend adventures helped them stay sane and stay close. Then the story gets even bigger: they move to a better international school, build community, and have their two oldest kids in China. Jeff gets honest about parenting abroad, hospital decisions, transportation challenges, and how cultural differences can complicate even basic support systems. We close with what he brings home to the United States as a social studies teacher, including a stronger world view and a deeper belief in second language learning for his own kids.If you like stories about China, international schools, moving overseas, and the real psychology of stepping into the unknown, hit play. We went through 3 IUI's and 2 IVF's, over a 3 year journey trying to get pregnant, then finally - we had our baby girl. During this time of trying to conceive we dealt with various health scares, I was let go from my job and had a family death... all within a few weeks. It was a low point in our relationship but we stuck together and pulled through. I own a content agency and an apparel brand for Dads.We started it because being a dad is heavy.Human Dad wasn't born in a group chat looking for laughs. It was born in the quiet moments — when responsibility hits harder than you expected, and there's no manual, no applause, and no reset button...FIND HIM HERE: humandad.comhttps://www.instagram.com/humandadbrand

Orlando De Castroverde was done referring his best cases to other lawyers. A billboard lawyer and co-owner of a Las Vegas personal injury firm, Orlando had the cases — he just needed the conviction to try them. After stepping away from trials to build the business, he committed in 2018 to becoming a real trial lawyer, including through training on the TLU platform with founder host Dan Ambrose What followed: the last pre-COVID verdict in Vegas, the city's first post-COVID trial, and a $1.72 million verdict against an offer of $125,000. In this episode, he shares how he uses a flip chart to box in defense experts, why he never tries a case alone, and how TLU On Demand sharpens his whole team.Train and Connect with the Titans☑️ Orlando De Castroverde | LinkedIn☑️ De Castroverde Law Group | Facebook | Instagram | LinkedIn | YouTube☑️ Trial Lawyers University☑️ TLU On Demand: Instant access to live lectures, case analysis, and skills training videos☑️ TLU on X | Facebook | Instagram | LinkedIn☑️ Subscribe Apple Podcasts | Spotify | YouTube2026 Programming☑️ Witness Preparation & Direct Examination, May 8 - 9, Hermosa Beach, CA☑️ Dark Arts Trial Warcraft Bootcamp, May 27 - June 2, Huntington Beach, CA☑️ TLU Beach, June 3-6, Huntington Beach, CAEpisode SnapshotOrlando's father, Waldo, a former blackjack dealer who became a lawyer in his late 40s, inspired Orlando to follow in his footsteps. Orlando worked at his dad's office through junior high, high school, and college. After clerking for district court judge Lee Gates in Las Vegas for a year and a half, Orlando learned the court from the inside out — watching trials, meeting judges, and building the confidence to eventually join his dad's firm.Within a month of joining his dad's firm, Orlando tried his first case — a criminal matter involving a Brazilian client charged with six or seven felony counts of not paying back casino markers at the Bellagio — and won an acquittal. In 2018, after noticing a pattern of cases settling for less than their value, Orlando made a firm-wide commitment to trying cases rather than giving away the best cases to other lawyers. For Orlando, every trial is a team effort, including a November 2023 case he tried with a lawyer who had been practicing for just two weeks and who has since earned verdicts of $1 million or more in all three of her trials. To win $1.72 million against a $25,000 pre-trial offer, Orlando and his team scripted witness presentations, used a flip chart to draw the spinal extrusion in front of the jury, and left it up throughout trial to continually reinforce the injury to the jury.In his most recent case — a delay-in-diagnosis matter involving a lymphoma patient who was not told of her results for six months — Orlando argued that his client lost a chance of remission. The defense paid policy limits of $1 million.Produced and Powered by LawPods
In 2026, USA Hockey accomplished something no other nation has ever done, winning Olympic gold medals for Mens, Women's and Paralympic Ice Hockey. Yet this was not something that happened overnight, and in fact was the culmination of nearly two decades of growing the game and modifying rules and game formats in order to develop more skillful players and a much larger player base to choose from. And who better to discuss this journey than one of its architects, Ken Martel. Ken Martel was named senior director of player and coach development in November 2022. He is charged with helping provide a framework for associations nationwide to follow for optimal athlete development. From 2009-22 Martel served as the technical director of USA Hockey's American Development Model after spending two years (2006-08) at USA Hockey's national office in Colorado Springs, Colo., working on coaching education and player development initiatives. For his efforts using science to advance sport, Martel received the USOC "Doc" Councilman Award for Ice Hockey in 2004. Prior to arriving in Colorado Springs, Martel was a part of USA Hockey's National Team Development Program staff as an assistant coach for eight years (1998-2006), including a dual role with responsibilities for player personnel his final five seasons. Martel has made appearances behind the bench of nine U.S. teams that have competed in International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships, including four times with the U.S. National Under-18 Team (2000-04), four times with the U.S. National Junior Team (2004, 2006, 2008-09) and once with the U.S. Women's National Team (2007). He has been part of two gold medal-winning teams, including the first-ever U.S. gold medals in the IIHF Men's World Under-18 Championship (2002) and the IIHF World Junior Championship (2004). Among his additional coaching stops, Martel served one season (1997-98) as an assistant coach for the men's ice hockey program at the U.S. Air Force Academy and seven seasons (1990-97) as an assistant men's ice hockey coach at Michigan Tech University. He also spent one year (1990-91) as a graduate assistant for the men's ice hockey program at St. Cloud State University. A four-year (1985-89) letter-winner as a defenseman at Lake Superior State University, Martel helped the Lakers to the school's first-ever NCAA national title in 1988. It's been almost 3 years since I was diagnosed with breast cancer. What has happened over the past few months is that I really took a pause from recording episodes. It really was not intentional that I put off making new episodes and sharing new content. It just worked out as I got busy with life and sort of put all this breast cancer stuff behind me. I talk about in this episode my radical acceptance the breast cancer experience and how I realized I can handle whatever happens in my future. I also share some thoughts about whether or not it would have been helpful to be working full-time when I was initially diagnosed, in 2023. I know now I'm coping better than ever with having a history of breast cancer, and I attribute a lot of that to being busy during my days with my career. As I cover a lot of different reflections that are from my recent experiences and deeply tied to when I was diagnosed, I hope you'll listen to the end to hear how I feel I am doing now at this point in survivorship. The content of this podcast is not intended to substitute professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
