EPISODE #125 - One of the most important people in making Van Halen a successful band was engineer/producer Donn Landee. He served as an engineer on the first six VH albums with David Lee Roth and as an engineer/producer on “5150” and “OU812” during the Sammy Hagar years. Landee was also responsible for building Eddie Van Halen's home studio, 5150. The impact he had on Van Halen was immeasurable. Additionally, he worked alongside producer Ted Templeman on other famous acts like the Doobie Brothers, Little Feat, Nicolette Larson and many others. In tribute, the Daves do a deep dive interview with author Greg Renoff who had conducted several interviews with Landee for his books ("Van Halen Rising" and "Ted Templeman: A Platinum Producer's Life in Music") and an extensive story for Tape Op magazine. Join Ray and Marc as Tunesmate takes a ride back to 1986 to celebrate the release of 5150 by Van Halen. The album was a turning point for the band after David Lee Roth left and Sammy Hagar took over lead vocals. Do you remember where you were when you first heard it? The album features tracks like Why Can't This Be Love, Dreams, Best of Both Worlds, and Love Walks In. Sammy brought a new energy, and fans still debate to this day who is the best lead singer. On the 75th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom & Zeus welcome back special guest, Podcaster, Comic, Musician and Shout It Out Loudcast Hall Of Famer, Izzy Presley to review the 1986 hard rock landscape changing album "5150" from Van Halen. Van Halen was coming off their diamond selling album, 1984, when the band and legendary frontman David Lee Roth split. Van Halen was known of course for their Guitar God founder Eddie Van Halen. His brother, drummer Alex Van Halen and his legendary snare was still there as was underrated bassist Michael Anthony and his incredible backing vocals. So the band recruited the Red Rocker, Sammy Hagar to replace Diamond Dave. Sammy was already a well established rock star who can sing, write songs and even play guitar. 5150 was Van Halen's seventh album and made it to #1 on Billboard album charts and eventually went 6X platinum. This was Van Halen's first number one album. This album was different than the previous DLR albums with a more polished and pop oriented sound that translated into more accessible music. This is the beginning of the so-called Van Hagar era. This was the Patreon pick and as usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. So tune in to find out if "Do you like Van Halen?" On this episode of Exclusively Van Halen, we're diving into the latest developments surrounding a potential new Van Halen album — and why Sammy Hagar is feeling left out. Alex Van Halen is reportedly working on a project built from unreleased jam session recordings he and his brother Eddie Van Halen created at 5150 Studios. The music itself isn't newly recorded — but it would be brand-new to fans. So far, there's no indication that Hagar — or former bassist Michael Anthony — is actively involved in shaping or finishing the material. While some tracks could potentially feature vocals from past sessions, very little is confirmed about the album's direction, timeline, or even whether it will officially be released. Speaking recently on the Rock of Nations podcast, Hagar and Anthony both said they'd gladly participate in any way that could help complete the record — but they haven't been invited. And reading between the lines, it doesn't sound like that invitation is coming. Hagar admitted he's disappointed. He acknowledged that Alex has every right to move forward however he chooses, but made it clear that being excluded from something carrying the Van Halen name stings — especially when key members are still here and willing to contribute. From what's been reported, the project could feature performances from Alex, Eddie, and possibly Wolfgang Van Halen, who has been central to preserving and honoring his father's musical legacy. If vocals are needed, Wolfgang could potentially step in — or the material may remain instrumental. At this point, the biggest question remains: will fans get a fully realized, high-quality Van Halen release — or something that feels unfinished? One thing seems clear: if this album does arrive, it likely won't include new contributions from Sammy Hagar. And that's where the tension lies. "Exclusively Van Halen" is your ultimate destination for all things Van Halen. From deep dives into the band's legendary history to giveaways and gear showcases, we celebrate one of the greatest rock bands of all time — every week.
EPISODE #122 - After the one-two punch of Van Halen I & II, the mighty VH were faced with a small window to deliver their third record, “Women & Children First” in 1980. On this episode of Exclusively Van Halen on johnnybeaneTV, we dive into one of the biggest “what-ifs” in hard rock history. “The rest is history. That's how close it got.” That's how Alex Van Halen described the moment he and Eddie Van Halen nearly formed a band with Ozzy Osbourne. At a time when Van Halen was reeling from lineup turmoil — after the Gary Cherone era ended and relationships with David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar were strained — the Van Halen brothers were searching for direction. Rumors swirled about potential singers, even David Coverdale, though that was ultimately dismissed. Around 2000, Alex and Eddie met with Sharon Osbourne to seriously discuss making a record with Ozzy. According to Alex, the conversation went well. Sharon was on board. The idea was real. An album was within reach. There was just one catch. Sharon mentioned she had a meeting the next day about a television show. That show became The Osbournes, which ran from 2002 to 2005 and changed pop culture — but it also derailed what could have been a historic collaboration. Ozzy later admitted the project “would have been phenomenal,” and expressed regret that it never came together. Meanwhile, Alex and Steve Lukather are now developing material Eddie recorded during his lifetime, originally intended as a follow-up to 2012's A Different Kind of Truth. That release marked Van Halen's studio return with Roth — but history might have looked very different if the Ozzy collaboration had happened. We also revisit the brothers' late-era jams with Chris Cornell, another near-miss that ended far too soon. What would a Van Halen–Ozzy album have sounded like? Early 2000s metal? A return to raw riff-driven hard rock? A completely new chapter? Join the discussion. "Exclusively Van Halen" is your ultimate destination for all things Van Halen. From deep dives into the band's legendary history to giveaways and gear showcases, we celebrate one of the greatest rock bands of all time — every week.

Alex Van Halen says he has plenty enough material recorded by himself, Eddie and Wolfie to make an album! We got to wondering who would make a good singer for the project!
On this episode of Exclusively Van Halen, we dive into HUGE news: Alex Van Halen has officially confirmed that work is underway on a brand-new album built from unheard Eddie Van Halen material—for the first time ever. Alex revealed in a recent interview that he's been teaming up with Steve Lukather to help bring these recordings to life. These aren't scraps or demos either—this is music that was intended to become the next Van Halen album before Eddie's passing. The foundation is already there, with drums, guitars, and bass recorded—bass handled by Wolfgang Van Halen. But don't expect a quick release. Alex says nothing will come out unless it meets the same high standard the band always demanded. They're carefully shaping the material into something worthy of the Van Halen legacy—no unfinished sketches, only top-tier music. The big missing piece? A vocalist. Paul Rodgers was considered but declined due to health and touring. Alex says he and Lukather are searching for the right voice—someone from the same musical era who understands the spirit of the band. He even mentioned Robert Plant as a dream fit, though nothing is set in stone. Notably, past Van Halen singers David Lee Roth, Sammy Hagar, and Gary Cherone were not discussed. Alex's goal? To finish what they started and deliver something powerful, emotional, and worthy of the band's history. If this project comes together, it could be one of the most important rock releases in years. #VanHalen #EddieVanHalen #AlexVanHalen #JohnnyBeaneTV #ExclusivelyVanHalen

In 1978, Van Halen exploded onto the rock scene with their game-changing debut album—released on this day and forever altering the landscape of rock music. Eddie Van Halen's groundbreaking guitar work, David Lee Roth's electrifying vocals, Michael Anthony's punchy bass lines, and Alex Van Halen's powerful drumming made this album an instant classic. It inspired generations of musicians and fans, and its influence continues to be felt today. On this episode of Exclusively Van Halen, we celebrate the anniversary of the band's legendary 1978 debut—diving into the songs, the impact, and the lasting legacy of one of rock's greatest albums. Relive the magic and see why this record still stands as a defining moment in music history. Tracklist:
Van Halen officially announced Tokyo Dome Live in Concert on February 5, 2015, following months of fan speculation and a leak just days earlier. Released March 31, 2015, the album became the band's first live record with original frontman David Lee Roth and bassist Wolfgang Van Halen, capturing the group on their A Different Kind of Truth tour in front of a massive Tokyo Dome crowd. The setlist spans every Roth-era Van Halen album, from the 1978 debut through 2012's A Different Kind of Truth, mixing early classics like “Runnin' with the Devil,” “Unchained,” and “Panama” with newer tracks such as “Tattoo” and “She's the Woman.” While the release was celebrated as a major reunion-era document, it also drew criticism in some circles for Roth's live vocal performance. According to Eddie Van Halen, the band first considered remixing early pre-fame demos, but the original tapes couldn't be located. They then explored releasing vintage club recordings, only to find the sound quality unusable. Instead, the band recorded every show on the 2012–2013 tour via Pro Tools, and Roth ultimately chose the Tokyo Dome performance as the official live release. The album's cover art updates Cassandre's classic 1935 painting of the SS Normandie, tying a vintage visual style to a modern live document of the band. Tokyo Dome Live in Concert would also go on to be the final Van Halen album released during Eddie Van Halen's lifetime, making it a significant closing chapter in the band's discography. Featuring David Lee Roth, Eddie Van Halen, Wolfgang Van Halen, and Alex Van Halen, the album stands as a snapshot of Van Halen's late-era live sound and a full-career celebration of the Roth catalog. "Exclusively Van Halen" is your ultimate destination for all things Van Halen. From deep dives into the band's legendary history to giveaways and gear showcases, we celebrate one of the greatest rock bands of all time — every week.
